Saudi: 279 female recruits graduate from passports institute

Riyadh: In a majestic procession, about 279 Saudi female recruits have graduated from the passports institute in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

At the graduation ceremony, Saudi recruits, who completed a basic individual training course for female soldiers, staged a military parade.

The military parade included military hypotheses and skills, as they performed their skills in the areas of security work in front of the audience, after receiving field skills and security sciences.

On Wednesday, January 18, about 211 Saudi female recruits graduated after completing a basic individual training course at a prison facility. 255 other Saudi women graduated from a women’s military training institute, groomed for being members of the special forces in diplomacy and Haj security.

Since Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman came to power in 2017, he has insisted on opening up the kingdom by diversifying the country’s economy and relaxing many gender-based rules.

In recent years, the Kingdom has witnessed extensive transformations, allowing women to drive by royal order in 2017, followed by unprecedented decisions, including the enrollment of women in the main branches of the armed forces, with different military ranks.

  • Over 370 Indian passports seized for breaching Yemen travel ban

Over 370 Indian passports seized for breaching Yemen travel ban

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, told the Lok Sabha on Friday that the government has seized a total of 372 passports of those who have travelled to Yemen over the past few years, violating a travel ban to the contry.

The minister’s response came while responding to questions raised by IUML MP E.T. Mohammed Basheer, who sought to know if the government has noticed that a large number of passports have been seized by the immigration department for travel to Yemen and other banned countries.

India has banned travel to Yemen since 2017. In 2016, Father Tom Uzhunnalil, a Kerala state priest, was kidnapped by terrorists from Aden, which triggered a travel ban.

Muraleedharan said that 372 passports have been seized from across the country, out of which 102 have been released.

However, seizure/release of passports is a continuous process and the data keeps changing.

“The seized passports are liable to be impounded or revoked under Section 10(3) of the Passports Act, 1967 and the holder of the passport is liable to be refused a passport under Section 6 of the said Act for a period of seven years from the date of revocation of such passport,” stated the minister’s reply.

Basheer had also sought details on the steps taken by the government to penalise and return the passports since most of the people working abroad belong to the poor/weaker sections of the society.

Muraleedharan also said that a provision to permit Indian nationals to visit Yemen for specific and essential reasons has also been made wherein prior approval of the Ministry of External Affairs is required to be obtained.

The maximum number of passports seized was from Kerala — 241. The least was seized from Chattisgarh, Odisha and Goa — one each.

Two passports were seized from Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

Others states in the list are Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Mumbai: Two held for making fake passports, visas

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Two persons, including a 62-year-old man, were arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday for allegedly making fake passports and visas and issuing bogus COVID test reports, an official said.

The police are on the lookout for the third member of the gang, he said.

The trio operated from a flat in suburban Andheri. The Crime Branch raided the apartment and seized 28 duplicate passports, 24 bogus visas of different countries and several fake COVID test certificates, said the official.

Fake immigration rubber stamps of many countries were found in the flat, he said.

The police have learnt that the trio was charging lakhs to make fake passports and visas. They suspect the gang has already sent many people out of India with the help of the fake documents made by it.

The trio had made 414 fake rubber stamps carrying the names of government departments and officials, and bank staffers. There were fake rubber stamps in the name of officials from the state-run JJ hospital to issue COVID test certificates, which are required for travel to some countries, the official said.

The Crime Branch also recovered stickers with images of the national emblem and the logo of the Income Tax department.

Three colour printers, scanners and seven pen drives were seized from the flat, said the official.

The trio was booked for cheating and forgery under the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Passport Act.

A court has remanded the arrested persons in police custody till February 4, the official added.
