Gehlot’s veiled attack on Pilot: ‘Cong leaders should not do anything that damages party’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said Congress workers and leaders should not do anything that damages the party, in remarks seen as a veiled attack on his former deputy Sachin Pilot who has been questioning the state government’s alleged inaction in “corruption” cases.

Gehlot, who arrived in Delhi on Friday afternoon, said they should work towards ensuring that the Congress government is repeated in the state.

The veteran Congress leader said he is here for personal obligations and would be meeting some friends before returning to the state on Saturday.

    MS Education Academy

“It is easy to ignite fire, but very difficult to douse it….I talk about ‘mehngai raahat’ (relief from price rise). Congress leaders and workers should work towards strengthening the party and work towards bringing its government once again in the state and how they can contribute towards it. They should not do anything which harms the party,” he told reporters at the airport here.

“I feel that if due to some remark one faces some loss, one should not worry about one’s personal loss as the party high command would compensate you. But, one should not say or do anything that should harm the party and organisation as no one will be able to compensate for the damage caused,” he said in a veiled reference to remarks made by Pilot, who sat on a fast recently seeking action on alleged corruption during the BJP’s Vasundhara Rajes previous government.

Pilot sat on a protest in Jaipur last week demanding action against those involved in corruption during the previous Raje government.

The Congress had termed it “anti-party activity”. But Pilot went ahead with his fast dharna. The Congress has so far not acted against Pilot for protesting against his own party’s government.

Gehlot said his government has brought in several new schemes and more are coming. The people of the state feel that our government will be repeated, he said.

“We have talked to 100 MLAs and everyone said that whatever was asked for (from the state government) was received and work is going on everywhere in the state,” he said.

Asked about surveys being conducted by the party ahead of the assembly elections later this year, he said many such exercises will be held to assess the work of MLAs.

On former Congress president Rahul Gandhi vacating his official bungalow after being disqualified as MP, Gehlot said, “Whenever there is a conspiracy, the conspirator completes the entire conspiracy. The moment the case was filed, they decided what to do. The case was earlier not heard for four years, but suddenly everything was expedited as part of a conspiracy. It was a conspiracy.”

He said neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Home Minister Amit Shah knows about the Gandhi family which has made sacrifices for the nation.

“The entire Congress family and workers want them to continue to provide leadership to the party,” the chief minister noted.

Gehlot expressed concern over the issue of unemployment and price rise in the country, saying, “We want to address that, as it is affecting people. We are also providing jobs in the government and non-government sectors in Rajasthan.”

“We have launched a number of schemes for the welfare of people and we are now launching ‘Mehngai raahat camps’ that will provide some help,” he noted, adding that these camps will function in villages across the state.

He said a scheme to provide gas cylinders at Rs 500 was launched on April 1 and people are getting cheaper cylinders. “We will provide benefits to all, be it of the Congress or the BJP.”

UP Cong leader arrested, expelled from party for putting Tricolour on Atiq’s grave

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: A local Congress leader, who stoked a controversy by placing the Indian Tricolour on the grave of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad at the Kasari Masari graveyard in Old City area, has been arrested.

The Congress leader Rajkumar Singh ‘Rajju’, was also expelled from the party for ‘anti-party ‘activities’.

An aspiring corporator from ward no. 43 here in the UP civic polls, Rajju was held by the Dhoomanganj police after a video of him purportedly showing him put the national flag on the grave went viral on social media, said police.

    MS Education Academy

Atiq and his younger brother Ashraf were buried in the graveyard late on April 16 evening after they were shot dead by three armed assailants while in police custody on April 15 night.

In the viral video, Rajkumar Singh Rajju is purportedly seen calling Atiq Ahmed a martyr, demanding Bharat Ratna for him and later spreading the Tricolour on his grave. The authenticity of the video clip is yet to be confirmed.

As soon as the information about the viral clip was received, the Dhoomanganj police traced and detained the accused leader on Wednesday night.

“A complaint is being registered against him,” said police.

Meanwhile, city Congress committee president Pradeep Mishra Anshuman expelled the leader from the party for six years, saying that Rajkumar Singh’s statement on Atiq was his personal view and the party had nothing to do with it.

The viral video also purportedly showed the accused leader saying: “The state government got Atiq Ahmad murdered. I demand that he be given Bharat Ratna. He was a public representative. He should be given the status of a martyr. If late Mulayam Singh Yadav can get Padma Vibhushan, then why should Atiq not be given Bharat Ratna…why was he not given state honours during the funeral?”

Rajkumar Singh is believed to have given this statement to the media after the press conference of Congress mayoral candidate Prabha Shankar Mishra.

While he was giving the statement, the city Congress president could be seen stopping the leader from speaking further.

India waiting for the right leader, party: KCR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Claiming that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is receiving huge response in Maharashtra, party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday that the country is waiting for the right leader and the right party.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, said the kind of response BRS is getting in Maharashtra is beyond his own expectations.

KCR was addressing a ‘Dawat-e-Iftar’ hosted by the state government at the L.B. Stadium here.

    MS Education Academy

Stating that the country is passing through a difficult phase, the BRS chief said that it is a temporary phase and ultimately truth and justice will prevail.

He said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was turned into BRS to make an effort to save the country.

“The country belongs to all, and we have to save it at any cost. We will fight till the last drop of our blood but will not compromise,” KCR told the large gathering.

Calling for safeguarding the composite culture of the country, the BRS leader said, “Nobody can change our traditions and history. Those who try will go but the country will remain.”

KCR, however, stressed the need to act wisely without getting swayed by emotions.

“When I was fighting for Telangana, I knew that ‘Allah ke ghar der hai, andher nahi’,” he said.

Referring to the progress made by Telangana across sectors during the last nine years, KCR said the state has no competition.

He also said the Central government itself has revealed in the Parliament that Telangana has the highest per capita income in the country.

“Our per capita income is higher than that of bigger states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka,” he said.

KCR added that per capita power consumption in the state has doubled in nine years while farmers’ suicides have come to an end, and those who had migrated are now coming back to the state.

He pointed out that while paddy cultivation in the country is happening on 94 lakh acres, Telangana alone accounts for 56.40 lakh acres.

“There is no drinking water and power problem in the state. We are moving ahead, but the country is lagging behind. If the Centre had performed at par with Telangana, our GDP would have been higher by Rs 3-4 lakh crore,” he said.

KCR also said his government spent Rs 12,000 crore on minority welfare in nine years, while during the preceeding 10 years of Congress rule, only Rs 1,180 crore was spent.

Ministers, Muslim leaders from BRS, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, religious scholars and others attended the Iftar party.

    main beavers kimprofile lede

It remains to be seen how comfortable the House GOP can be as a home for Steel and Kim, emigres from South Korea whose friendship long predates their service in Congress. These days, both represent districts that Democrats have targeted in recent campaigns.

Steel acknowledged that the women’s entry into the congressional Republican ranks hasn’t always been smooth.

“A lot of people, the first year, they couldn’t recognize the differences between Kim and me,” she recalled. “I had to mention that I’m taller than her, I have longer hair than her.”

Despite exit polls showing the Asian American electorate generally tilting leftward, Kim’s anti-communist rhetoric has helped her connect with conservative Asian American voters in her Orange County-area district — particularly Vietnamese Americans, who tend to lean more to the right. House Republican leaders, eager to diversify the party’s ranks, have pointed to Kim and Steel as valuable messengers and potential models.

What has worked for Kim in her district hasn’t quite translated into national success for the GOP, though.

Republicans still haven’t been able to break through among Asian American voters in other key races, with the fast-growing voting bloc still swinging decisively towards Democrats during the last election in swing states from Georgia to Nevada.

And Kim is plainly still finding her own way in Washington, too, even as Speaker Kevin McCarthy predicts she could rise to become a committee chair or senator.

In an interview, Chu, the chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, said Kim had initially expressed some interest in joining the all-Democratic group. Membership in CAPAC might have functioned as a useful platform for a junior lawmaker with hopes of closing the gap between the Republican Party and Asian Americans — and between the U.S. and East Asia.

But Kim ultimately opted against joining, Chu said, after realizing she would have been outvoted by the group’s executive board on any major decision.

    Wu reported from Washington.

  • AAP: 2023 will be a trial run before 2014 Lok Sabha elections for the party

AAP: 2023 will be a trial run before 2014 Lok Sabha elections for the party

    [ad_1]

When Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launched his Aam Admi party in 2012 and bid for power the following year, no one thought he would find political space and sustain himself.

A decade later, today, he has changed from the self-projected role of an angry young man to an ‘ambitious young man’ with grand plans for himself and his young Party.

With two states- Delhi and Punjab- under his belt, Kejriwal wants to lead the Opposition in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He has three goals:

    MS Education Academy

Expand his Party to as many states as possible.
Find a place in the country’s political high table.
Position himself as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s primary challenger.

His optimism comes out in his recent prophecy, “Time is very powerful; nothing is permanent in the world. If one thinks that one will remain in power forever, then that’s not going to happen. Today we’re in power in Delhi, and they’re (BJP) in power in Centre; Tomorrow it might happen we’ll be in power in Centre,”

The AAP’s political journey has seen dramatic twists and turns. The Party has grown beyond recognition, and the BJP has overtaken Congress. At the same time, the Grand Old Party has shrunk.

Born from India Against Corruption movement, the AAP decimated Congress and the BJP in the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections. After 49 days, he quit as chief minister, only to return in 2015 and 2021. The AAP has no Lok Sabha MP but boasts 10 members in the Rajya Sabha. It is the only Party other than the Congress and the BJP to control power in two states, Delhi and Punjab.

The Party lost miserably in the 2019 parliamentary elections in Delhi. At another level, AAP faced a setback as it could not muster even one percent of votes in the assembly elections in Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. But the landslide win in Punjab last year brought back cheers.

After last year’s Gujarat polls, AAP is again ascending by gaining the national party status. It is the ninth national Party.

Compared to AAP, Samajwadi Party, JD(U), Telugu Desam, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi couldn’t move beyond their turf. Parties like NCP, TMC, CPI, and BSP face derecognition.

Like many other Opposition parties, AAP faced pinpricks from the Centre. These have demoralized the Party and created a fear complex. After weighing the pros and cons, the AAP chief has decided to take on the BJP headlong, particularly after the recent arrests of his two ministers, Sisodia and Satyednra Jain.

For instance, despite the mutual discomfort between the two rivals -AAP and Congress- Kejriwal blasted BJP after the recent court verdict and the subsequent disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha.

The AAP chief alleged Modi is the most corrupt Prime Minister. He criticized the Prime Minister for his alleged closeness to industrialist Gautam Adani, who became the world’s second wealthiest man and joined the Opposition in their demand for a Joint Parliamentary probe last session.

He has questioned Modi’s educational qualifications and asked if his “degree is fake”. This came a day after Gujarat High Court fined Kejriwal and ruled that Prime Minister’s degree details were unnecessary.

Kejriwal went to the Lion’s Den Gujarat by talking about his “Delhi model.” during the last year’s Assembly polls. Modi came to power propagating his ‘Gujarat model.”

Kejriwal has openly joined other opposition leaders to challenge Modi before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

There are many ifs and buts before Kejriwal could achieve his goals. AAP continues to concentrate on bread-and-butter issues and those about the common man. Kejriwal plays a soft Hindutva to attract Hindu voters. He wants to win voters by offering freebies. But the strategy in the North may or may not work in the Southern states.

To succeed, Kejriwal must build his Party and sell his ‘Delhi model” successfully. Several factors influence the voters, including grassroots organization, anti-BJP sentiment, a credible local face, and the potential for implementing the Delhi model.

Secondly, Kejriwal needs to build second-line state leaders. The Party’s founding members, such as Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Shazia Ilmi, Kumar Vishwas, and Ashutosh, and civil society members, in the past decade, quit the Party protesting against Kejriwal’s highhandedness. Before the 2022 Assembly election, at least 11 MLAs either quit the Party or were disqualified.

Thirdly, he has made a personality cult around himself, and all powers are centred on him. He must learn to share power instead of concentrating entirely on himself.

The fourth is to build friendships with other opposition leaders and mend fences with Congress. If only two fronts exist, then Congress will not support him.

2023 will be a trial run before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections for all parties, but more so for AAP. Ultimately, win or lose depends on his electoral calculations and voters’ reactions.

Hanuman Beniwal asks Sachin Pilot to form new party, offers alliance

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief Hanuman Beniwal on Tuesday asked Congress leader Sachin Pilot to form a new party and forge an alliance with him for the assembly polls due later this year.

Beniwal said he is open to form alliance with any party against the Congress and the BJP.

On Tuesday, Pilot opened a new front against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot by sitting on a day-long fast against the Rajasthan government ‘inaction’ in cases of alleged corruption filed during the previous BJP rule. The Congress state unit had warned Pilot that the fast would be considered “anti-party activity” but he went ahead with it anyway.

    MS Education Academy

Pilot and Gehlot have been at loggerheads since the Congress formed government in the state in December 2018.

“I have suggested earlier also that if Sachin Pilot forms his party, then RLP is ready for alliance for the elections,” Beniwal told reporters.

“I can only give suggestions. If he forms the party, we will do an alliance. If he does not make his party, then it is his wish. Our doors are open for alliance with any party against Congress and BJP,” the Nagaur MP said.

A Jat leader, Beniwal said in the last assembly election, 80 lakh votes out of the 4 crore were against Congress and BJP, and this number can go up to 2 crore if all anti-Congress and anti-BJP parties come together in the state.

Beniwal contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in alliance with BJP on Nagaur seat and won it.

In December 2020, he announced his split from NDA over the new farm laws and supported the farmers movement. His party has three MLAs in the House of 200.
