World Food Programme plans to suspend aid to over 2 lakh Palestinians

Gaza: The World Food Programme (WFP) is planning to suspend food aid to over 200,00 Palestinians from next month due to a shortage of funds, the group’s senior official for the Palestinian territories confirmed on Sunday.
WFP’s country director, Samer Abdeljaber, told Reuters that the WFP was planning to suspend food assistance to over 200,000 people from the month of June.
However, it was hard to decide while considering impacted families where insecurity and poverty are the highest, and people there thoroughly rely on international aid.

“WFP is compelled to make painful choices to stretch the limited resources in light of the severe funding shortages,” Samer Abdeljaber said.
Food baskets and monthly vouchers with a value of USD 10.30 each are provided to poor Palestinians by the UN agency. There will be an impact on both programs.
According to Palestinian and UN records, 2.3 million people reside in poverty hit Gaza, of which 45 percent are unemployed and 80 percent depend on international aid.
The WFP is the main leading humanitarian organization dedicated to saving and changing lives in violent or utterly poverty-hit country areas it delivers food assistance in emergencies and works with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

Israel hands over bodies of 3 Palestinians killed in March

Ramallah: The Israeli army has handed over the bodies of three Palestinians who were killed by Israeli soldiers more than 50 days ago to the Palestinian side, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement.
In coordination with the Palestinian liaison office of security coordination with Israel, the Israeli army on Friday handed the bodies over to the Palestinian side at an Israeli army checkpoint near the northern West Bank city of Nablus, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the statement.
The Palestinian WAFA news agency identified the victims as Odai Shami, Jihad Shami, and Mohammad Dabik, who were killed by Israeli soldiers on March 12 while they were in a car close to the Israeli military checkpoint of Sarra near Nablus. Their bodies were taken away by the Israeli soldiers ever since.

According to statistics released by the Palestinian Authority in November last year, Israel is withholding the bodies of more than 110 Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers since 2015, including 10 minors, eight prisoners, and three women.
The Palestinian Authority also said 256 Palestinians who have been killed in the conflicts with Israel since 1967 were buried at a cemetery in northern Israel.
In the past few months, the Israeli army has carried out daily raids on Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps, mainly in the northern West Bank. Israelis claim that they want to arrest Palestinian militants wanted by Israeli security forces.
According to official Palestinian figures, the tension between Israelis and the Palestinians has killed more than 100 Palestinians since January. Meanwhile, Israeli sources said that 19 Israelis were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank.

Woman among four Palestinians killed in Israeli raid in Nablus

Four Palestinians, including one woman, were killed by the Israeli army on Thursday, during a raid in Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian News Agency.
The four martyrs are identified as— Hassan Qatnani, Moaz al-Masri, Ibrahim Jabr and woman Iman Ziad Ahmed Odeh.
On Thursday morning, Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a brief statement, that three Palestinians were killed by the occupation bullets, two of whom had completely distorted their features, as a result of the intense shooting at them.

The Israeli forces claimed that two of the three martyrs were responsible for carrying out a shooting attack, in which three Israeli women were killed in April 2023, in the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank.

Later on Thursday, Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of 26-year-old Palestinian woman Iman Ziad Ahmed Odeh, as a result of being shot in the chest on Thursday, by the Israeli forces in Hawara, south of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, claiming that she was attempting to carry out a stabbing attack.

Palestinian Red Crescent reported that four citizens in Nablus were injured by live bullets fired by the occupation forces, in addition to recording 152 cases of suffocation, including school students, as a result of the occupation forces firing tear gas canisters.
Israeli Army Radio reported that more than 200 Israeli soldiers participated in the military operation in Nablus on Thursday.
Palestinian News Agency quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the occupation forces targeted the besieged house with live bullets, fired a number of missiles at it, and prevented medical staff from reaching the besieged area.

With the rise of the four martyrs of Nablus on Thursday, the death toll since the beginning of this year rises to 108, including 20 children and two women.
The figure also includes the 44-year-old Palestinian prisoner Sheikh Khader Adnan, who died on Tuesday on the 87th day of a hunger strike to protest his repeated arbitrary detention.
The death of Adnan, who was arrested on March 5, 2023, pending military trial, sparked widespread anger and protests in the occupied West Bank, and led to rockets being fired at Israel by the armed resistance factions in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Palestinians mark int’l Quds Day in Gaza against Israel’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Gaza: Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza marked the International Quds Day with protests against Israeli police raids into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam.
Raising Palestinian flags and displaying the image of the Al-Aqsa mosque, protestors grouped across the besieged Palestinian enclave and chanted slogans slamming “Israeli violations against Jerusalem and the Palestinian worshippers in the area”.
Quds Day is a pro-Palestinian event initiated by Iran in 1979 and observed annually on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which falls on April 14 this year.

During a demonstration, senior Popular Front party official Louay al-Qaryouti delivered a speech on behalf of Palestinian factions, in which he called for unified Arab and Islamic efforts to confront Israel’s occupation and stay committed to the Palestinian cause, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Gaza-ruling Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said in a statement that “Quds Day represents an opportunity to unify efforts in support of the steadfastness of the Jerusalemites, the stationed, and the defenders of the holiest place”.
Earlier in the month, the Israeli forces carried out raids for two consecutive days on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, firing teargas canisters and stun grenades to disperse Palestinian worshipers.
The Israeli raids came during a sensitive time when Muslims are observing the holy month of Ramadan with prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, while Jews were commemorating the Passover holiday.
The raids were condemned by countries in the Middle East and triggered an escalation of conflicts along Israel’s borders.

2 Palestinians killed in exchange of fire with Israeli soldiers in West Bank

Ramallah: Two Palestinian militants were killed on Tuesday in an exchange of fire near an Israeli settlement northeast of the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
Palestinian sources said that the two Palestinians were identified as Saud Al-Titi, an officer with the Palestinian Authority security forces, and Mohammed Al-Bouf, who had respectively spent 14 years and seven years in Israeli prisons, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Israeli army said in a statement that two Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers near the village of Deir al-Khatb, northeast of Nablus, after they opened fire at the settlement of Elon Mora.

Meanwhile, two other Palestinians were injured by Israeli soldiers near the village, said Director of Ambulance and Emergency in the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Ahmed Jibril.
He said that one of them was injured in the shoulder and was taken to the hospital in Nablus, adding that the Israeli army forces prevented the PRCS ambulances from reaching the other casualty.
Israel Radio reported that the Israeli army ambushed an armed Palestinian group that opened fire toward the Elon Moreh settlement, and confiscated an M-16 firearm and a pistol from the possession of the two Palestinians who were “neutralized.”
According to official Palestinian figures, the tension between Israel and the Palestinians has killed 98 Palestinians since early January. Israeli sources said that 19 Israelis were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank.

Iranian Prez calls for ‘united front’ among Muslim states to support Palestinians

Tehran: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has called on Muslim states to form a “united and consistent” front in support of the Palestinians against Israel.
In a phone conversation with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Raisi said that Iran and Algeria share common stances on regional and international affairs, particularly the Palestine issue and the protection of the Palestinians’ rights, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement posted on the website of the Iranian President’s office.
The Algerian President said that he hoped that “Palestine would be liberated from the Israelis through cooperation among Muslim states”.

The phone conversation followed last week’s escalation of tension along the Israeli borders with Lebanon and the Palestinian enclave of Gaza Strip. Militants from southern Lebanon and Gaza fired rockets at Israel, while Israel responded with airstrikes.
The latest round of escalation followed Israeli raids earlier last week at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, a flashpoint holy site in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israeli police clashed with dozens of Palestinian worshippers. The Israeli police said “dozens of law-breaking youths” attempted to barricade themselves inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque “to incite riots”.

Israeli forces detained 115 Palestinians during Ramzan: Report

Jerusalem: The number of Palestinians detained by the Israeli occupation forces, during the first week of holy month of Ramzan reached 115.
In a report, the Palestinian Center for Prisoner Studies said that the occupation forces intensified their campaign against the Palestinians during the holy month, and among the detainees were 21 children, most of them from the occupied city of Jerusalem.
Some of the children were detained for questioning and released to either house arrest or a fine.
One of the detained children is 17-year-old Mohammad Abu Safiyeh, from Sair neighborhood, west of Ramallah. He was injured about a month ago by the occupation forces.
The Palestine center called on the international community to protect the Palestinians from the daily Israeli aggression.

Lebanon condemns Israeli FM’s racist remarks on Palestinians

Beirut: Lebanon has condemned the latest racist remarks made by Israel’s far-right Finance Minister, who denied the existence of Palestinian people.
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Tuesday urged the international community to take deterrent measures and reject the deliberately provocative statement aimed at abolishing a peaceful solution and exacerbating the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, Xinhua news agency reported.
During an event held in the French capital of Paris on Sunday, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who also heads the Religious Zionist Party, said “there’s no such thing as Palestinians because there’s no such thing as a Palestinian people”.
He made the remarks on a stage that featured a map of “Greater Israel” that included the territory of modern-day Jordan and the occupied Palestinian territories in accordance with hardline aspirations by some early Zionist groups.
Jordan on Monday summoned the Israeli Ambassador in Amman to protest Smotrich’s “provocative acts”.

4 Palestinians killed in Israeli raid in West Bank: Health Ministry

Ramallah: Four Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli soldiers who stormed the northern West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement.
Another 20 Palestinians were wounded, four of whom were in serious conditions, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the statement.
According to Palestinian sources and eyewitnesses, heavy clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants broke out in Jenin’s main street after an Israeli undercover unit stormed the city.
There has been no official statement from Israel on the shootings.
Israeli security forces have regularly conducted raids in Jenin in the past few months, amid an escalation of tension between Palestinians and Israelis in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said that 84 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli soldiers since January. Meanwhile, official Israeli figures show that 14 Israelis were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians.

Four Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in West Bank raids

Three Palestinians were killed by the occupation army, at dawn Thursday, during the raid in the northern West Bank.
Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that, “The Israeli army executed 3 Palestinians in a vehicle near the town of Jaba, Jenin Governorate, in the northern West Bank.”
The martyrs were— 22-year-old Ahmed Mohammad Fashafsha, 26-year-old Sufyan Fakhoury, and 25-year-old Nayef Ahmed Al-Tabash Malaysha.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that the youths were armed and that two of them belonged to the Islamic Jihad Movement, and claimed that they got out of the vehicle and started shooting at the Israeli forces, which responded by killing the three.
The Palestinian News Agency quoted eyewitnesses as saying that Israeli special forces infiltrated the town and opened fire on a vehicle containing three young men in the Al-Fwara area of Jaba, killing them.

In addition, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of 14-year-old Walid Nassar, from critical injuries sustained in the abdomen, as a result of the occupation army’s bullets in Jenin two days ago.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army carried out a military operation in Jenin, killing six Palestinians.
UN envoy ‘deeply disturbed’ by ongoing violence between Israelis and Palestinians
The United Nations envoy for peace in the Middle East urged Israel and the Palestinians on Wednesday to calm escalating violence in the occupied West Bank, a day after the latest Israeli raid killed six people.

“I am deeply disturbed by the continuing violence and appalled by the attacks of Israeli settlers against Palestinians in Huwara near Nablus,” said Tor Wennesland.
UN official adds, “Israel, as the occupying power, must ensure that the civilian population is protected, and perpetrators are held to account,” said the UN official “I condemn settler violence against Palestinians. I condemn Palestinian attacks against Israelis. All civilians must be protected from violence.”
“I am also alarmed by the events that unfolded yesterday during an Israeli operation in Jenin, resulting in armed exchanges between Israeli security forces and armed Palestinians,” he added.
Since the beginning of 2023, confrontations have escalated in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and have resulted in the death of 77 Palestinians and the death of 14 Israelis in separate operations.
