Top Dem super PAC starts Biden ad blitz, pledges $75 million campaign effort

The president’s long-awaited announcement on Tuesday allows Biden to begin fundraising for what will be an expensive campaign. But his April launch also gave the green light for Democratic groups like Priorities USA to jumpstart 2024 efforts backing the president.

“It is essential to remind voters of what’s at stake in 2024, and to do so online. Issues such as abortion access, protecting our climate, curbing gun control, making health care more affordable and making our economy work for every American will be the centerpieces of this campaign,” said Danielle Butterfield, the group’s executive director.

Founded in 2011, Priorities USA is among the Democratic Party’s largest political action committees. But it won’t be the only one supporting Biden, or the main one for that. Future Forward, which already has been running TV ads, will likely be Biden’s primary outside spending apparatus, though American Bridge and others are also expected to have a share in the campaign’s portfolio.

There was also some uncertainty about the role Biden-allied Building Back Together might play after the 2022 election. But instead of paid media campaigns, BBT will focus on coordinating among Democratic groups to highlight the Biden administration’s efforts to implement the president’s agenda.

Priorities’ ad, titled “Our Strength, Our Champion,” focuses on the Biden administration’s accomplishments and echoes the tone of Biden’s announcement video — with imagery of Jan. 6 and Biden’s leading GOP opponent, former President Donald Trump. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, another expected 2024 GOP candidate, make appearances as well. The ad will stream in English and Spanish.

The ad then runs through a list of Biden’s accomplishments, noting that he has “worked across the aisle,” “protected marriage equality,” “took historic climate action,” and “lowered health care costs.”

In the final seconds of the video, with Biden’s voice playing in the background, “Joe Biden is fighting with us. Let’s finish the job together” flashed across the screen.

  • DeSantis super PAC claps back at Trump

DeSantis super PAC claps back at Trump

    [ad_1]

Never Back Down, the super PAC supporting DeSantis, came out swinging with two new videos that take direct aim at Trump. One that came out the same day that Trump addressed the National Rifle Association said he sided with Democrats on some gun regulations.

“Trump the gun-grabber doesn’t deserve a second chance,” the video maintains.

Then came a second one on Sunday that, after mentioning the recent indictment against the former president, claims that DeSantis would not cut Social Security — an attempt to neutralize criticism pushed by Trump world that relies on positions DeSantis took while serving in Congress. “Trump should fight Democrats, not lie about Governor DeSantis. What happened to Donald Trump?” states the ad, which aired on Fox News and was first reported by Axios.

DeSantis hasn’t announced his 2024 presidential bid yet but is widely expected to jump into the race in May or June.

Never Back Down’s activity came while a Trump-aligned group launched its own withering broadside against DeSantis. Make America Great Again Inc. put out an ad on Friday labeled “Pudding Fingers” that linked together an alleged anecdote about DeSantis eating pudding with his fingers and an assertion that DeSantis will go after Social Security and Medicare if elected president.

Never Back Down also has started spending on television ad buys in early states for an introductory positive ad about DeSantis as well.

The bottom line is that at least one part of the DeSantis orbit has decided that the persistent attacks from Trump needed to be responded to before DeSantis officially jumps into the presidential race in the next few weeks. The question is whether the governor himself and those who worked on his reelection campaign, and remain on the payroll now, also begin to respond to Trump.

There will be those who question the value of taking on Trump directly or whether it’s already too late. But for now, it’s on.

A super PAC closely aligned with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is making a major expansion, bringing on a top Republican strategist and establishing its headquarters in Atlanta.

It is a move that comes as the Florida governor takes steps toward launching a widely-expected presidential run.

Jeff Roe, who previously ran Sen. Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign, has signed on to be an adviser to the super PAC, Never Back Down, according to an operative with direct knowledge of the move.

Never Back Down is being spearheaded by executive director Chris Jankowski, another seasoned Republican operative. Ken Cuccinelli, a former top Homeland Security official to Donald Trump, is serving as chair of the super PAC. Over the last several weeks, Cuccinelli has visited four key early GOP primary states.

Whether Never Back Down is ultimately blessed by DeSantis is not yet clear, though top Republicans expect it will play a major role bolstering the governor should he get into the race.

While the super PAC is ramping up operations, so too is DeSantis himself. The governor is expected to hit the road again in late March and early April after having done an extensive swing for his book tour. Among the stops he will make will be for speaking engagements in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, New Hampshire and the D.C. area.

The stops will bring him before some influential conservative audiences. Among them, DeSantis is slated to speak at the convocation at Liberty University on April 14.

  • Amid PAC, doctors not prescribing generic medicines to patients in J&K hospitals

Amid PAC, doctors not prescribing generic medicines to patients in J&K hospitals

    Jahangeer Ganaie

Srinagar, Jan 23: Despite constitution of divisional level Prescriptions Audit Committee (PAC), doctors in several hospitals of Jammu and Kashmir aren’t prescribing generic medicines to patients available at the hospital.

Health officials on condition of anonymity told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that doctors at various hospitals are not prescribing generic medicines to the patients so as to give benefit to private clinics and to give their percentage as well.

They said directions given doctors to mention, unit/department name on the prescription is also thrown to the winds so that identity of doctors not prescribing generic medicines won’t get disclosed.

Meanwhile, attendants as well as patients talking to KNO said that the nexus between doctors and private clinics is still active and in order to get benefit doctors are prescribing costly drugs and unnecessary diagnostic tests.

“Unnecessary diagnostic tests/procedures are prescribed and patients are referred to the private clinics/specialists without requirement,” they said.

They added that despite the availability of generic drugs at the hospital, doctors are prescribing costly drugs which are not available at the hospital stores so that patients can get them from private clinics and the doctor will get his share.

A health official acknowledged that drugs are prescribed in contravention to the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetic Act & Regularizations.

He said that the government has already taken a serious note of it and recommendations, highlighting actionable points will be sought from concerned authorities in this regard so that this practice can be stopped fully.

“The prescription Audit report submitted by the Nodal Officer has raised serious issues regarding prescription of patients where doctors are not writing Generic drugs and does not mention the name, unit/department on the prescription.” Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC Anantnag has recently written to all doctors of the hospital.

“Accordingly it is once again intimated to prescribe Generic Drugs for which Jan Aushadhi Kendra and AMRIT Stores are already functional in the hospital so that patients will be benefitted and make proper signatures, write full name and unit/department on each and every prescription.” It reads further.

Notably, Directorate of Health Service Kashmir last year ordered for constitution of divisional level Prescriptions Audit Committee (PAC) and asked Chief Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents to nominate one Nodal Officer besides constituting similar committees at district level.

DHSK had also asked all the CMOs and Medical Superintendents to nominate one Nodal Officer for each district and sub-district hospital and shall collect photocopies of at least 1 percent of prescriptions by doctors in OPDs on a random basis.

CMOs were also asked to constitute district-level PAC comprising doctors on administrative posts, excluding consultants.

“These prescriptions collected by the Nodal Officer shall be scrutinized by PAC whether the prescriptions are written in capital letters with the name of doctor, signature and registration number besides that generic drugs are prescribed and preference is given to the drugs, which are available free in hospital supplies,” DHSK had directed—(KNO)
