Over 12K Israeli administrative detention orders issued in 9 yrs

    [ad_1]

The Israeli authorities have issued more than 12,000 administrative detention orders (without charge) against Palestinian detainees over the past nine years.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC) said in a statement on Wednesday, the highest percentage of issuance of administrative detention orders was in 2022.

In 2022, the number of administrative detention orders reached 2,409 orders, and the highest rate was in December, and the number of orders reached 315.

At the end of 2022, there were 866 administrative detainees in Israeli prisons, including two women, seven children, and a 76-year-old man.

According to PPC, a staggering 80 per cent of administrative detainees are ex-prisoners.

The Israeli occupation authorities renewed the arrest of Palestinian figures such as Nidal Abu Akar, Thaer Halahleh, Ghassan Zawaheereh and Saleh al Je’edi. Although she was never charged with any crime and has not been brought to trial, Shorouq Al-Badan of Bethlehem has had her detention renewed. She has been under administrative detention since 2019.

The Israeli authorities use administrative detention for anyone who has a “vanguard role on the social, cognitive, and political level in the Palestinian arena, in addition to being a policy of revenge and collective punishment.”

It is noteworthy that Israel detains 4,700 Palestinians in its prisons, including 150 children and 33 women, and 600 prisoners suffering from diseases of various degrees, and in need of follow-up, health care and urgent medical interventions, including 24 prisoners suffering from cancer and tumors.

  • PM Shehbaz Sharif orders inquiry into power outage in Pakistan

PM Shehbaz Sharif orders inquiry into power outage in Pakistan

    [ad_1]

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the power outage in Pakistan that took place at around 7:34 am on Monday and left many cities including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad without electricity, Geo TV reported.0

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy, the national grid’s frequency dropped around 7:34 am, leading to a “widespread breakdown” in the electricity system. Additionally, it stated that Warsak was the starting point for the repair of grid stations.

However, electricity has still not been fully restored nationwide, which is hindering companies and the daily lives of more than 220 million people.

The outage lasted for more than 16 hours, especially when temperatures were forecasted to fall to around 4 degrees Celsius (39°F) in Islamabad and 8 degrees Celsius (46°F) in Karachi, according to Geo TV.

The blackout, which Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir claimed was caused by a power surge, is the second significant grid breakdown in three months and adds to the nearly daily blackouts Pakistan’s population experiences.

The power outage occurred after a technical fault was reported in the transmission line from Guddu to Quetta, causing the reduction of the power frequency from the optimum level, AAJ News reported citing sources.

Sources revealed that Sindh, Punjab, and Islamabad regions were impacted by the power breakdown. According to sources, the complete restoration of electricity might take time. It is the second power outage reported over the past four months in Pakistan which is currently dealing with the energy crisis and high energy costs.

Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO), which provides electricity to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and parts of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) said that the power supply to 117 grid stations of its company has been suspended, as per the news report.

IESCO tweeted, “Power supply to 117 grid stations of ISCO has been suspended yet no clear reason has been given by the Region Control Center. ISCO management is in constant communication with the concerned authorities.”

  • Waqf Board Orders Valuation Of Commercial Properties Across J&K

Waqf Board Orders Valuation Of Commercial Properties Across J&K

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board here has launched a comprehensive exercise for valuation of its hundreds of commercial properties across the Union Territory.

“Continuing with its reformative agenda initiated under the leadership of Chairperson, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, J&K Waqf Board has started an exhaustive Valuation exercise of its hundreds of commercial assets spread across the UT of Jammu & Kashmir,”  news agency KNO quoted a statement as having said.

Interestingly, despite being the second largest asset-rich organisation in the UT after the Govt itself, no significant efforts have been made till date for assessment of Commercial Properties by the previous authorities at the helm of affairs in Waqf over the last several decades, revealed the sources in Waqf, it said.

In an order issued by Executive Magistrate, Tehsildar J&K Waqf Board, it has been revealed that, in absence of proper valuation, “random assessment values have been used to insure commercial properties in the past and that has also created difficulties in settlement of claims with insurers”.

The move is also expected to “result in creation of a permanent data base for smooth rent assessment of structures in future”.

The Administrators and other Waqf Supervisory staff have been directed to facilitate and provide all necessary support & manpower for smooth conduct of the exercise, the order said.
