Jammu & Kashmir Government Orders Premature Retirement of  Officers

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 16 (KN) : In its endeavor to make the Administration more efficient and transparent, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered premature retirement of 02 officers, one each belonging to Prison Department and Transport Department respectively.

These officers conducted their duties in ways which were unbecoming of public servants and in violation of the established code of conduct.

The exercise was conducted as part of regular process of scrutiny of records of employees, who cross age/service period in terms of Article 226(2) of J&K CSRs.

Out of these retirees, the officer belonging to Prison Department was found involved in wrongdoings while performing his duties during his services career and had remained ineffective in discharging the assigned duties besides, had doubtful integrity. The other officer belonging to Transport Department was found involved in a serious criminal case for acquiring disproportionate assets and had doubtful integrity with inefficient performance during his service career.

According to the recommendations of the Review Committee, the performance of these employees was found unsatisfactory and their continuation in the government service was found against the public interest.

During the recent past, as part of its zero tolerance policy towards corruption, various employees have been dismissed from service on account of official misconduct, after rigorously following departmental proceedings against them. Many cases are under scrutiny with the Empowered Committees constituted for consideration of cases under Article 226(2) of J&K CSRs. Further, many employees have also been terminated from service on account of anti-national activities.

Meanwhile, the government has also initiated several measures for human resource development of its employees in Jammu and Kashmir which includes timely promotion of eligible employees leading to smooth career progression, fast tracking the recruitment process through recruiting agencies and abolishing of interviews for most of the non-gazetted vacancies referred to the Services Selection Board. The Government is also contemplating institutionalization of referral of vacancies to recruiting agencies so that recruitments start in month of April every year in accordance with defined calender.(KN)

Kanpur Dehat deaths: CM Yogi orders SIT probe

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Kanpur divisional commissioner and additional director general, Kanpur Zone, to probe the deaths of a mother and daughter during an eviction drive in Kanpur Dehat.

The SIT will submit an interim report in a week.

The state government also announced a relief of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family.

“For the proper treatment of the injured sons, an assistance of Rs 5 lakh each (total Rs 10 lakh) has been provided to the family by the government,” an official spokesman said.

Security has also been provided to the family by the government.

The incident has caused an uproar in political circles. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had tweeted that the “spectacle of inhumanity on the bulldozer of the BJP government has become a threat to humanity and sensitivity”.

BSP chief Mayawati said that the Kanpur Dehat incident is being talked about more than the state government’s Global Investors Summit which was advertised so much. She said the BJP government’s policy to use bulldozers is meant to intimidate people and make them helpless.

“In a big state like UP, which has been hit hard by poverty, unemployment, inflation and backwardness, the government’s bulldozer policy is causing deaths of even the poor and the innocent. This is extremely unfortunate and condemnable,” she said.

Meanwhile, Rura police station in-charge Dinesh Gautam, accused in the case, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, has been suspended with immediate effect.

Principal Secretary (Home), Sanjay Prasad, said that Kanpur Divisional Commissioner Raj Shekhar has been authorised to select other members of the SIT in consultation with ADG, Kanpur, Alok Singh and complete the investigations in a stipulated time frame.

“Officials from Kanpur Dehat to Lucknow are in action on this incident that took place in Kanpur Dehat. In this sequence, the teams of the development and revenue departments will visit the site soon,” the official added.

These teams will complete the proceedings related to housing, old age pension and agricultural land lease there.

A total of 39 individuals, including SDM Maitha, the in-charge of Rura police station, four Lekhpals, a qanungo, a JCB driver, besides locals of Madauli and 27 unidentified persons have already been booked under murder and other charges in connection with the incident.

Police have also arrested the JCB driver. The JCB which was used in the demolition of the victims’ house has been seized, a police official said.

Mother-daughter self-immolate: UP CM orders magisterial probe

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a mother-daughter duo in Kanpur Dehat during an anti-encroachment drive.

It will be in addition to the probe by a Special Investigation Team which is already on, he said, adding the truth of the incident will come before the people in a transparent manner.

“The Kanpur incident is tragic. An SIT team is already looking into it. I have also ordered a magisterial probe into it,” the chief minister tweeted.

The chief minister also shared a video clip of his interaction with a private TV channel.

Replying to a question on the Monday evening incident in Kanpur Dehat district, Adityanath said, “The matter is sensitive and the truth of the incident will come before people in a transparent manner.”

He said everybody should wait for the inquiry reports.

Pramila Dixit (45) and her daughter Neha (20) died after they allegedly set themselves afire in a hut in the presence of police, district administration and revenue officials, who had gone to Madauli village in the Rura area of the district to remove encroachments from a “gram samaj” land, police had said.

While opposition parties alleged that the BJP government’s “arrogance of power” and “insensitivity” were responsible for the incident, Uttar Pradesh’s minister of state for women’s welfare Pratibha Shukla, who met the bereaved family on Tuesday, blamed the district officials.

Shukla said she was asked by the chief minister to visit the village and apprise him of the facts.

The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday said it would raise the incident in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s Budget Session – scheduled to start on Monday – to get justice for the victims.

BSP chief Mayawati said, “The ‘bulldozer politics’ of the BJP government is taking the lives of innocent poor people which is very tragic. The government should change its anti-people approach.”

Police have booked 39 people, including a sub-divisional magistrate, four revenue officials, a police station head and several other cops, on murder and other charges in the incident.

  • Air India to acquire modern fleet, orders 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing

Air India to acquire modern fleet, orders 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Air India, part of the Tata Sons conglomerate, on Tuesday announced that it has signed letters of intent with Airbus and Boeing to acquire both widebody and single-aisle aircraft.

The order comprises 40 Airbus A350s, 20 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777-9s widebody aircraft, as well as 210 Airbus A320/321 Neos and 190 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft. The A350 aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines, and the B777/787s by engines from GE Aerospace. All single-aisle aircraft will be powered by engines from CFM International.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a video call with French President Emmanuel Macron, Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, Campbell Wilson, CEO, Air India, and Guillaume Faury, CEO, Airbus, on the occasion of the launch of a partnership between Air India and Airbus.

The Prime Minister highlighted the rapid expansion and growth of the civil aviation market in India, which will give impetus to greater connectivity between India and the rest of the world, and will in turn encourage tourism and business in the country.

Complimenting the strong presence of French companies in India, Modi also recalled the recent decision by French aerospace engine manufacturer SAFRAN to set up its largest MRO facility in India to service aircraft engines for both Indian and international carriers.

Commenting on the occasion, Tata Sons Chairman Chandrasekaran said: “Air India is on a large transformation journey across safety, customer service, technology, engineering, network and human resources. Modern, efficient fleet is a fundamental component of this transformation. This order is an important step in realising Air India’s ambition, articulated in its Vihaan.AI transformation programme, to offer a world class proposition serving global travellers with an Indian heart.

“These new aircraft will modernise the airline’s fleet and onboard product, and dramatically expand its global network. The growth enabled by this order will also provide unparalleled career opportunities for Indian aviation professionals and catalyse accelerated development of the Indian aviation ecosystem.”

The first of the new aircraft will enter service in late 2023, with the bulk to arrive from mid-2025 onwards. In the interim, Air India has already started taking delivery of 11 leased B777 and 25 A320 aircraft to accelerate its fleet and network expansion.

“At long last, after many months of difficult negotiation, I’m delighted to finally share that Air India has signed letters of intent with Boeing, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GE Aerospace and CFM International for a fleet of brand-new aircraft,” said Air India CEO Campbell Wilson in a communication to the employees on Tuesday.

In addition to the 470 aircraft on firm order, Air India has secured a number of options and purchase rights.

“These give us the option, but not the obligation, to take additional aircraft at already-negotiated production slots and/or prices so that we can nimbly accommodate further growth and manage risk,” the CEO informed the employees.

The firm part of the order alone is not just the largest order ever made by an Indian airline, it is one of the largest single aircraft orders by any airline, anywhere, ever, and testifies to India’s unique combination of extraordinary scale and growth opportunity, Wilson said in the communication.

The acquisition of new aircraft, which will come with an entirely new cabin interior, complements Air India’s previously announced plan to refit its existing widebody B787 and B777 aircraft with new seats and inflight entertainment systems. The first of these refitted aircraft will enter service in mid-2024.

The Air India group currently comprises full-service Air India, as well as two low-cost subsidiaries — Air India Express and Air Asia India — which are in the process of merging.

Its parent, Tata Sons, recently announced its intention to merge Air India with full-service airline Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines in which the former holds 51 per cent share. In steady state, subject to regulatory approval, the group will comprise a single full-service airline, Air India, and a single low-cost airline, Air India Express.

Air India orders 220 Boeing planes for $34 bn; Biden terms deal as historic

    [ad_1]

Washington: Air India will purchase 220 planes from Boeing for USD 34 billion, with an option to buy 70 more aircraft that could take the total transaction value to USD 45.9 billion, a deal that US President Joe Biden described as a “historic agreement”.

While announcing the Boeing-Air India deal on Tuesday, Biden also asserted that together with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he was looking forward to deepen the ties between India and the US.

As per an announcement from the White House, Boeing and Air India have reached an agreement under which the airline will purchase 190 B737 MAX, 20 B787, and 10 B777X for a total of 220 firm order valued at USD 34 billion at list price.

The deal will also include customer options for an additional 50 Boeing 737 MAX and 20 Boeing 787, totalling 290 airplanes for a total of USD 45.9 billion at list price.

“I am proud to announce today the purchase of over 200 American-made aircraft through a historic agreement between Air India and Boeing,” Biden said.

The Air India order is Boeing’s third biggest sale ever in dollar value and second in terms of number of planes.

This purchase will support over one million American jobs across 44 states, and many will not require a four-year college degree, Biden said, adding that this announcement also reflects the strength of the US-India economic partnership.

“Together with Prime Minister Modi, I look forward to deepening our partnership even further as we continue to confront shared global challenges — creating a more secure and prosperous future for all of our citizens,” Biden said.

This announcement follows the inaugural launch of the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) last month. The initiative is aimed at expanding the strategic technology partnership and defense industrial cooperation between the governments, businesses, and universities of the two countries.

Biden and Modi announced the iCET in May 2022.

Biden’s economic plan is about building an economy from the bottom up and the middle out, and revitalising American manufacturing, the White House said.

Over the course of production and delivery, the agreement will have USD 70 billion in total economic impact across the United States and support an estimated 1.47 million direct and indirect jobs.

The production of the aircraft supports three separate US-based manufacturing lines that include aerospace suppliers across 44 different states, the White House said.

IIT-B condoles death of Dalit student, orders probe

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The IIT-Bombay on Monday condoled the death by suicide of B.Tech. First Year Dalit student, Darshan Solanki, terming it as “a great loss to the family and to the IITB community.

In its first reaction, the IIT-B said: “It is unfortunate that such a loss could not be prevented despite the efforts of the Institute and Student Mentors to support our students. A committee has been constituted to investigate the incident.”

The IIT-B held a condolence meeting and observed two minutes of silence in memory of the departed soul, said a spokesperson.

In a shocking incident, Solanki, 18, jumped to his death from the 7th floor of his hostel building in the Powai Campus on Sunday afternoon, after his first semester exams for the Chemical Engineering course a day earlier.

According to certain reports, Solanki reportedly did not heed warning shouts from other co-students who noticed him just before he took the plunge to death.

“While we cannot change what has already happened, we will further increase our efforts to prevent such events in future. We pray that his family gets the strength to bear this loss. The Institute is with his family at this difficult time. We deeply mourn the tragic loss of Darshan’s life,” said the IIT-B.

Earlier on Monday, a student group, the Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle-IITB had pointed fingers at the IIT-B for alleged discrimination prevalent on the Powai Campus against students from reserved categories, various lapses on the part of the management to address their distress, etc., and sought redressal.
