San Francisco: The losses of Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the developer behind highly-successful AI chatbot ChatGPT, reportedly swelled to nearly $540 million last year and are likely to only keep rising.

According to The Information, OpenAI’s losses doubled as it developed ChatGPT and hired key employees from Google.

“The previously unreported figure reflects the steep costs of training its machine-learning models during the period before it started selling access to the chatbot,” the report noted.

OpenAI in February this year launched the new subscription plan, ChatGPT Plus, that is available for $20 a month.

However, the report mentioned that even if the revenue picks up, OpenAI’s losses are likely to keep rising as “more customers use its artificial intelligence technology and the company trains future versions of the software”.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has “privately suggested OpenAI may try to raise as much as $100 billion in the coming years to achieve its aim of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) that is advanced enough to improve its own capabilities”.

Elon Musk, Twitter CEO and an early investor in OpenAI, tweeted late on Saturday: “That’s what he (Altman) told me”.

Musk, who has criticised OpenAI several times, last month created a new company called X.AI which will promote AI in the ChatGPT era.

It was Musk who initially invested $100 million in OpenAI, but later exited the company.

In recent months, ChatGPT and GPT-4 have become a rage worldwide.

OpenAI recently closed a more than $300 million share sale at a valuation between $27-$29 billion, according to reports.

Meta seeks OpenAI’s help to create coding assistant for its engineers

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Meta (formerly Facebook) is reportedly in touch with Microsoft and OpenAI to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) coding assistant for its engineers.

According to ‘Command Line’ by The Verge’s Alex Heath, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth recently told employees about the plan, saying the cost for building an AI coding engineer is “crazy” at about seven cents per query.

“That’s the only place in the company we’re really considering working with Microsoft and OpenAI, just because there’s a natural business integration there,” he told employees.

    MS Education Academy

He revealed that the company is also working on a “companion that is more about all of our code and our internal documentation, built on our own infrastructure”.

“We are moving very fast. I think we’ll have something to play with internally, I’m hoping in mid-June, maybe late June,” Bosworth said.

According to reports, OpenAI has received $300 million from VCs at a valuation of $27-$29 billion.

VC firms, including Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive and K2 Global picking up new shares, according to documents seen by TechCrunch.

Microsoft has already infused around $10 billion in OpenAI that is behind the highly-successful generative AI chatbot called ChatGPT.

ChatGPT has been a hit, with more than one billion visitors to its website in February, according to SimilarWeb data.

  • Microsoft introduces ‘Bing Image Creator’ powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E

Microsoft introduces ‘Bing Image Creator’ powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Microsoft has introduced a new feature ‘Bing Image Creator’ to the new Bing and Edge preview, which allows users to create an image simply by using their own words to describe the picture they want to see — powered by an advanced version of the Open AI’s DALL-E model.

Bing Image Creator integrated into Bing chat has started to roll out to Bing preview users, also it is available in Microsoft Edge from the Image Creator icon in the sidebar for both desktop and mobile users around the world in English.

Moreover, the company said that it will soon integrate Image Creator into Edge from the new Bing button in chat mode in the preview version of Edge.

“By typing in a description of an image, providing additional context like location or activity, and choosing an art style, Image Creator will generate an image from your own imagination. It’s like your creative copilot. Just type something like ‘draw an image’ or ‘create an image’ as a prompt in chat to get creating a visual for a newsletter to friends or as inspiration for redecorating your living room,” Microsoft said in a blogpost.

Along with the new image generator, Bing is getting two new search features — Visual Stories and Knowledge Cards 2.0.

“To support the growing demand for more visual search experiences, we are also making Stories and Knowledge Cards 2.0 available to all Bing users,” the company said.

Knowledge Cards 2.0 is an AI-powered infographic-inspired experience that provides fun facts and key information at a glance.

The company said that it has been updated to include interactive, dynamic content like charts, graphs, timelines, visual stories and more.

  • GPT-4: OpenAI’s latest innovation in chatbot technology

GPT-4: OpenAI’s latest innovation in chatbot technology

    [ad_1]

OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence research institute, has announced the release of GPT-4, the latest version of its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT. The new model boasts several enhanced capabilities that make it stand out from its predecessor, including the ability to process up to 25,000 words, eight times more than ChatGPT.

One of the most notable features of GPT-4 is its ability to respond to images. Users can upload photos of ingredients, and GPT-4 will provide recipe suggestions based on the image. Additionally, it can write captions and descriptions of images with impressive accuracy.

Since its launch in November 2022, millions of people have used ChatGPT for various purposes such as writing songs, poems, marketing copy, computer code, and homework assistance. However, there are concerns that GPT-4 could take over many jobs currently done by humans.

OpenAI has addressed these concerns and spent six months on safety features for GPT-4. The model was also trained on human feedback, but OpenAI warns that it may still be prone to sharing disinformation.

Initially, GPT-4 will only be accessible to users with premium access to ChatGPT, which requires a monthly subscription fee of $20. The model is already powering Microsoft’s Bing search engine platform, and the tech giant has invested $10 billion into OpenAI.

In a live demo, GPT-4 generated an answer to a complicated tax query. However, there was no way to verify the accuracy of its response. Despite its enhanced capabilities, OpenAI has warned that GPT-4 is still not fully reliable and may “hallucinate” or invent facts or make reasoning errors.

GPT-4 is a type of generative artificial intelligence, using algorithms and predictive text to create new content based on prompts. OpenAI claims that GPT-4 has more advanced reasoning skills than ChatGPT, and it can find available meeting times for three schedules, among other things.

OpenAI has also announced new partnerships with language learning app Duolingo and Be My Eyes, an application for the visually impaired, to create AI chatbots that can assist users using natural language.

  • Microsoft Teams Premium gets new features powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3.5

Microsoft Teams Premium gets new features powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3.5

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Tech giant Microsoft has introduced new features powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3.5, to its Teams Premium, to make meeting artificial intelligence (AI)-powered.

The new features aim to make meetings more intelligent, personalised and protected – whether it’s one-on-one, large meetings, virtual appointments or webinars, the tech giant said in a blogpost on Wednesday.

“With a 252 per cent increase in weekly time spent in meetings in the first two years of the pandemic, we needed to find ways to work smarter, not harder.

With the ‘intelligent recap’ feature, users will get automatically generated meeting notes, recommended tasks and personalised highlights.

This will help users to save time spent reviewing meeting recordings, and this feature will be available in the second quarter of this year.

The ‘AI-generated chapters’ will divide the meeting into sections, making it easier to pick and choose the content most relevant to users. This is now available for “PowerPoint Live meeting recordings”.

“Intelligent recap will automatically generate meeting chapters based on the meeting transcript as well,” the company said.

Now, users can also access personalised timeline markers which will allow them to “call out when you joined or left a meeting in the meeting recording, so you can quickly click and listen in on what you missed.”
The timeline markers will also expand to include when the user’s name was mentioned and when a screen was shared.

“In the coming months, you’ll see key points and takeaways after the meeting, with AI-generated notes automatically created and powered by GPT-3.5,” the tech giant mentioned.

“AI is also here to help with some of the toughest collaboration challenges – working with people who natively speak different languages. Anyone can turn on live captions in Teams and see real-time captions in the spoken language,” it added.

Microsoft also introduced new features for brands, including ‘Branded meetings’, ‘organisation backgrounds’ and ‘organisation together mode scenes’, and much more.

Moreover, users can purchase Teams Premium for $7 till June 30, post which it will cost its usual price of $10.
