Srinagar In Mess Because Of G20 Event: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Omar Abdullah, Vice President, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday termed the upcoming G-20 summit a ‘tamasha’ and said that the preparations for the same are causing inconvenience to the people of Kashmir.

Omar was reacting to his father and NC president, Dr Farooq Abdullah’s comments on Jammu not being a part of upcoming G-20 event.

Lashing out at BJP, Omar tweeted, “Things are a mess in Srinagar because of this G-20 tamasha. The actual meeting will probably see most areas locked down and people stuck in their homes. Perhaps the BJP is being sensible sparing the people of Jammu the pain we are suffering here in the valley. The G20 has only punished the residents of Srinagar,” he said.

Pertinent to mention, Kashmir is set to host G20 event and the visiting delegates will be in Kashmir on a three day visit and will also opt for sightseeing. The administration in Srinagar is busy in execution of Smart City Projects in the city as delegates from guest countries and many international organisations are expected to participate in the event.

EC Manages To Find New Excuses To Delay Polls In JK: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said  the Election Commission seems to be in no hurry to conduct the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and manages to find new excuses to delay the elections.

Abdullah wrote on Twitter “When asked about assembly elections in JK, the chief election commissioner acknowledged a ‘vacuum that needs to be filled’. Yet surprisingly the @ECISVEEP seems to be in no hurry to conduct elections, on the contrary they manage to find new excuses to delay polls.”

He was referring to the comments made by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar at a presser in New Delhi where he acknowledged that there is  “a vacuum that needs to be filled” in Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar said, “It has been eight years since the last assembly elections were conducted in JK, and five years since it had an elected government,” he said, adding that it’s plainly obvious the BJP in JK is terrified of facing the people but it isn’t the job of the Election Commission to give the BJP a shield to cower behind.

Srinagar: The Election Commission seems to be in no hurry to conduct the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and manages to find “new excuses to delay” the elections, National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday.

“When asked about assembly elections in J&K, the chief election commissioner acknowledged a ‘vacuum that needs to be filled’. Yet surprisingly the @ECISVEEP seems to be in no hurry to conduct elections, on the contrary, they manage to find new excuses to delay polls,” Abdullah wrote on Twitter.

He was referring to the comments made by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar at a presser in New Delhi called to announce the Karnataka poll dates.

Responding to a question on the fresh special summary revision of electoral rolls in the Union territory, the CEC said, “But nonetheless, it does not disturb the scheduled part, the conducting part that depends on various other factors which we will come back to you. We are aware that there is a vacuum that needs to be filled.”

Abdullah said it has been eight years since the last assembly elections were conducted in J-K, and five years since it had an elected government.

“It’s plainly obvious the BJP in J&K is terrified of facing the people but it isn’t the job of the Election Commission to give the BJP a shield to cower behind,” the former chief minister said.

Punishing Kins Of Militants Against Natural Justice: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah Monday said that his party does not believe in the idea of punishing the relatives of militants as it is against natural justice.

He refuted the allegations that previous governments provided jobs to militants. “We did not punish a father for the misdeeds of his son. National Conference will never support a policy that is against natural justice,” Omar said while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a public rally.

Responding to a question on Manoj Sinha’s allegations that previous governments gave jobs to militants, Omar Abdullah said, “We didn’t punish people because they were relatives of militants. Is it fair for me to punish you for the crime committed by your father or a son? Tomorrow, if God forbid a close relative of Manoj Sinha Sahab commits a crime, should he be sent to jail?” Omar Abdullah questioned.

Omar said that nobody is supporting or advocating that militants should be given government jobs but at the same time relatives of militants should not be targeted.

He also castigated the government for bringing a blacklisted recruiting job agency to Jammu and Kashmir. “The present government is playing with the future of youth. We want an inquiry on how APTECH, which is blacklisted across the country, was given a contract and where the scams had taken place.”

He alleged that the present dispensation likes to misuse the police and use of police force against the civilian population is really bad. [KNT]

  • J-K polls delayed as BJP aren’t ready to face voters: Omar

J-K polls delayed as BJP aren’t ready to face voters: Omar

    [ad_1]

Jammu: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Monday attacked the BJP, alleging that the “delay” in assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is because they are not brave enough to face voters as they have failed to mitigate people’s problems.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, without naming the ruling party at the Centre, said they have also not been able to keep their promise of bringing large-scale investments and create job opportunities in the Union Territory.

“They are not ready to face the people and are escaping from (assembly) elections on one pretext or the other. They used the pretext of delimitation of constituencies and revision of electoral rolls which stands completed long back. They talked about weather not being conducive but have no justification to further delay the polls,” he said in a veiled attack on the BJP.

The National Conference (NC) vice president was addressing a public meeting at Bajalta in Nagrota constituency – his first in the city after the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and its bifurcation into two union territories in 2019.

Wearing a white turban, Abdullah said the weather is getting pleasant, they have only two reasons for delaying the polls further, one could be the worsening security situation which they claim has improved and the second being that they are afraid to face the voters.

“If they had been brave, they would have gone for the elections. After today’s public rally, some people (among the BJP) who were supportive of early elections will also feel jittery,” he said in an apparent reference to former legislator Devender Singh Rana who resigned from the post of NC provincial president and joined the BJP in October 2021.

Abdullah said the public meeting has proved beyond any doubt that the NC is alive both in the Kashmir and the Jammu province.

“People come and go but those who have love for the organisation and are not linked to any particular individual will stay back because they are with the party’s principles, flag and agenda,” he said.

The NC will show its real strength during the assembly elections, Abdullah asserted.

“They will try to polarise the situation as they are doing elsewhere in the country. We have to frustrate their attempts by standing united,” he said.

The former chief minister said for the first time he is witnessing a government which “feels happiness in inflicting difficulties on the people. It will be better to get rid of this government as soon as possible”.

“They are only engaged in propaganda, drama and showoff Sometime back, we heard of an outside company making an investment in Srinagar but it proved much ado about nothing,” the NC leader said referring to the Emaar group of United Arab Emirates laying the foundation of a mega mall project worth Rs 500 crore on Sunday.

He said his party was accused of being an obstacle in the path of development and job creation, and asked what happened over the past three years. “There is no new project, and recruitment for government jobs was cancelled owing to scams,” Abdullah said.

Those who celebrated the abrogation of Article 370 in Ladakh and Jammu are equally sad, he claimed.
“We were angry from day one but there were some people who celebrated it with a hope of ‘New J&K’. The people in Jammu suffered economically because of the stopping of the darbar move and anti-encroachment drive, while Leh people are openly expressing that they were happy to be part of J&K,” the NC leader said.

The erstwhile state was divided into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with Lt Governor-led administrations.

Abdullah also took a dig at the administration over an alleged imposter, Kiran Patel, who was arrested in Srinagar early this month and said “the deserving are not getting their rights but the frauds are getting benefited”.

“Instead of finding the reality of Patel before treating him as a VIP, they bowed before him. My colleagues who faced (terror) attacks were not given an escort, he (Patel) was given adequate security, five star accommodation and taken to LoC with many officers lined up to seek recommendations for transfer and promotions,” he said.

He said nobody can deny the differences between Kashmir and Jammu as far as weather and culture is concerned but what “we witness today is that both the regions are having common sufferings, people are annoyed and gripped by despondency”.

Referring to anti-encroachment drives in the Union Territory, Abdullah said he was surprised to see the pictures when they took out a bulldozer rally in Kashmir to frighten the public. “When people protested and the situation became tense, the bulldozer drive was stopped at the behest of Delhi,” he claimed.

He also talked about the imposition of property tax and said “they are saying only a handful of income will be generated but if that is the case, then what is the need for imposing the tax to harass the public”.

BJP Not Ready To Face People, Delaying JK Elections: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that BJP is delaying elections and shying away from facing people because it wasn’t able to live upto the hype on providing jobs, and ushering in development.

“The post 2019 chapter in both Jammu and Kashmir provinces has been marked by job losses, economic slump and outsourcing of contracts. So me people were e very happy on the abrogation, but their happiness was short lived. Everyone is suffering, right from traders to job aspirants, employees to agriculturalists, traders to miners, contractors to manufacturers. People are suffering from a plethora of issues all at the same time but the government is completely blind to their plight.” Omar said

Omar while addressing a rally at Nagrota, Jammu said that the public gathering has proved that NC is the only credible voice of people, having deep rooted and credible footprints across Jammu, Pir Panjal, Chenab and Kashmir regions.

In his address, Omar said, “Today’s function has refuted the notion that there is no hide and hair of NC in the plains of Jammu and that NC was only existent in Kashmir. Again people have rejected such false propaganda and showed how deep rooted NC is across all the regions of JK. It’s not an individual, who the people support, but the vision and mission of the party that the people connect to.”

Omar said that Jammu and Kashmir despite having cultural and geographical differences are connected by the widespread feeling of despondency. People are anxious; no one knows when a new order will be issued dispossessing them of their rights,

Lamenting the government on its failure to script a promised turnaround in four years since the decisions of August 05, 2019, he said, “It was said that NC was responsible for JK people’s woes. What good have they achieved now? Where are those promised jobs? Where is the much touted development? Leave alone coming up with job orders, they are not able to come up with selection lists.”

He said that the government is not thinking in terms of helping people but frightening them. Parading of newly purchased bulldozers meant for demolition, he said, was a case in point.

“After drawing much slack on the issue, the central government had asked the incumbent JK government to put hold on the headless demolition. But the local administration didn’t stop there, it came up with imposition of property tax on the houses, which it wasn’t able to demolish. It was told that the measure isn’t meant to gather revenue. If the purpose behind the measure was not to generate revenue, then why was the tax imposed in the first place. It means that the measure was only meant to intimidate people,” he said.

SRINAGAR: Former chief minister of erstwhile J&K state and National Conference (NC) vice president, Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that the present government in J&K is not for the people, but to appease the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Reacting to the Conman from Gujarat arrested in Srinagar, Omar while addressing a gathering in Kulgam said that it is the worthlessness of the present government, who was busy appeasing the fake conman from Gujarat.

According to the news agency KNO, he alleged that it is the fourth such incident, adding that it has been heard that three have already left for their places.

“How worthless this government is. The conman was given security, chaired meetings of officers, and also visited the Line of Control in Uri. Without confirmation from the PMO office, the administration was busy appeasing the conman. This government is not for the people, but to appease PMO,” he said, adding that this is the difference between the present government and the elected government. (KNO)

BJP Frightened To Face People In Elections: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the NC is the only party striving for the restoration of statehood and fundamental rights of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a one day workers convention at Aarigam, Khansahib in Budgam Omar said that it was imperative for workers to strengthen JKNC, which he asserted was the only party working to stop the caravan of BJP.

He further said that if people are happy with exorbitant taxation, soaring unemployment and demolition drive, then they should vote for the BJP. “If you want an end to unemployment, anti people, anti JK actions, then you should strengthen NC on ground.

“While other parties, the A and B teams have accepted the decisions of August, 2019, it’s NC which is striving for the restoration of our people’s pride, their land, cultural, democratic, constitutional and fundamental rights,” he said.

Governments actions, he said are light years away from healing the wounds of people. “The lands which were given to people by Sheikh sahib are being snatched away. Our resources, Jobs being out sourced,” he said.

Questioning the government claims of ushering in employment extravaganza in JK, he said what was claimed is not visible on ground. “Where are those thousands of jobs? Where is that promised investment? All the promises have ringed hollow and miserably failed to live up to it’s hype. Not even a day passes, when one or the other selection list ends up in a scandal.”

“As far as tourism sector is concerned, we had vacated the meadows from security forces, since then their has been no headway in bringing the area on the tourist map of region and country,” Omar said adding, “Locals wouldn’t benefit in wake of such process. Had government given them easy loans for establishment of restaurants, and hotels, the economic condition of the area would have been different. However nothing has been done to improve the economic condition of my brothers and sisters living around the meadow.”
