Who will resign for this?: Cong on conman posing as PMO official in Kashmir

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday expressed concern over the case of a conman posing as a PMO official and getting requisite perks, saying if the government is serious about the country’s security then it must make it clear who will resign for the lapse.

Kiran Bhai Patel from Gujarat has been arrested by police from a five-star hotel in Srinagar for posing as an ‘additional secretary’ in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and enjoying security cover besides other hospitality.

He had three cases registered against him in his home state, police said on Friday.

At a press conference, Congress’ media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said it was a very serious matter pertaining to the country’s security and the government probably was not focussed on such matters as it was “busy protecting the prime minister’s best friend”.

“If anyone asks questions to the Modi government, he is anti-national. Which national interest are you serving? If you are at least a little serious about the security of the nation, then tell me that at the political level who will resign in this matter?” Khera said.

“Our three essential questions are — can a PMO officer get Z+ security, should Z+ security be given and is Z+ security availed so easily. It is very important to know from which level the instructions to give security to a thug came?” he said.

In a sensitive area like Jammu and Kashmir, a person has been cheating the security forces for five months and is roaming in those areas with Z+ security by making a PMO card, where common citizens cannot go, he said and raised questions over the government’s intelligence mechanism.

Khera said the government must answer whose resignation will be taken for this lapse.

The ruling party has such a toolkit that the one who asks questions of them is an anti-national while one person takes Z+ security by printing fake cards of the PMO, the Congress leader alleged.

According to court documents, Patel was on his third visit to the Kashmir valley and was subsequently nabbed by alert security officials on March 3.

Patel had claimed he had been given a mandate by the government to identify buyers for apple orchards in south Kashmir and a couple of IAS officers were in awe of him as he had been dropping names of high-ranking bureaucrats and politicians in the national capital.

  • Sisodia’s family given 5 days to vacate official bungalow

Sisodia’s family given 5 days to vacate official bungalow

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s family has been given five days to vacate the official bungalow as his Mathura Road residence has been allotted to the newly-sworn in Delhi Minister, Atishi.

The Public Works Department (PWD) in an order said: “The Competent Authority is pleased to offer the Bungalow No. AB-17, Mathura Road, to Atishi, Minister in the Delhi government.”

The PWD order asked the occupants to vacate it on or before March 21.

According to the order, the directions were issued in line with provisions of the Delhi Administration Allotment of Government Residences (General Pool) Rules, 1977 that govern such allotments against “the invocation of penal provisions under the rules” if not vacated.

“Where the allottee is already in occupation of any house earlier allotted, the allottee will have to vacate the house within 15 days after taking the possession of the new house allotted in lieu of the previous house. The allottee shall also be required to submit a Clearance Certificate from the DDO concerned for recovery of license fee/ water charges relating to the accommodation earlier allotted,” the order read.

Talking about the order, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said: “Atishi is a minister and the bungalow has been allotted in her name, what is wrong with it? Manish Sisodia is our brother, his family is our family, we will take care of him. The BJP is treating Sisodia like a terrorist… the party should not play games.”

Meanwhile, BJP’s IT in-charge Amit Malviya said: “Kejriwal had promised to look after Manish Sisodia and his family. But he was removed as minister almost immediately, while Satyendar Jain was retained as minister for nine months when he was in jail. Now, Sisodia has been asked to vacate the bungalow so that it can be allotted to Atishi.”

  • Raj govt forms committee to consider declaring Rajasthani official language of state

Raj govt forms committee to consider declaring Rajasthani official language of state

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan government has formed a committee to consider declaring Rajasthani the official language of the state, minister B D Kalla said on Thursday.

Replying to the calling attention motion moved by the deputy leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly during Zero Hour, Kalla, the art and culture minister, informed the house that the government has approved the formation of a committee, which will study the model of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and submit a report to the state government.

He said based on the report, the state government will take action regarding the recognition of the Rajasthani language on similar lines.

Kalla said, at present, the Rajasthani language is included as a literary subject in the syllabus under the Board of Secondary Education. He said it would be possible to include it as a language after approval from the competent level.

The minister said it has come to the notice of the state government that different languages have been made official languages in different states.

At present, the Rajasthan Official Language Act, 1956 is applicable in the state. In order to make Rajasthani the official language, an amendment to the Act will have to be made.

He said the Mahapatra Committee has also considered Rajasthani eligible for inclusion in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. In this regard, the members of the party and the opposition should unite and request Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the issue, Rathore said various states have given official language status to their local languages such as Goa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Sikkim and West Bengal.

“Why cannot Rajasthan do the same under article 345 of the Constitution,” he questioned.

Article 345 of the Indian Constitution, provides constitutional recognition as “official languages” to any language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state.

He said as per the recommendations of the Pahwa committee 1996 and Sitakant Mahapatra Committee 2003 if any government gives primary education in the mother tongue then it is eligible to be included in the 8th schedule.

“The resolution taken by the state assembly in 2003 to add Rajasthani in the 8th schedule should start with the state making it an official language,” he said.

Rathore said article 345 of the constitution allows a state to make one or more languages its official language. The state should bring an amendment to the Rajasthan Official Language Act-1956 and give official status to Rajasthani.

In his response, Kalla said on August 25, 2003, a resolution was unanimously passed by all the members of the State Legislative Assembly regarding the recognition of the Rajasthani language and its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

The central government was urged to include the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution in 2009, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2023. At present the matter is under consideration at the level of the Government of India, he said.

A total of 22 languages of India are included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha on March 14, Minister of State of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said 14 languages were initially included in the Constitution on 26th January 1950.

Last year, former CM Vasundhara Raje demanded that Rajasthani be given the status of the official language of the state.

Raje had written a letter to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot stating that the mother tongue of Rajasthan is one of the richest languages in the world which is not only cultural identity but it is also related to sentiments.

She said after the recognition of Rajasthani as the official language, the state will be recognised globally and employment and tourism opportunities will increase.

In January this year, hundreds of youths gathered at the Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur to raise their demand to give Rajasthani the status of the official language of Rajasthan.

Office-bearers of student unions of various universities, student organisations including ruling Congress’ student wing NSUI and youth from different districts had gathered for the candle march in Jaipur in support of the demand.

Work on next lunar mission begins, reveals UAE space center official

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has already started working on a second rover to the moon, a top official from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) revealed on Wednesday, local media reported.

Dr Hamad Al Marzouqi, project manager for the Emirates Lunar Mission (EML) at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), revealed while speaking at a plenary session on the ‘Mission of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center: From Earth to Mars, passing through the Moon’ in the seventh session at the international. Space Operations Conference in Dubai.

This comes after UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi went into space on March 2 aboard the SpaceX Dragon named Endeavor.

As per media reports, the Japanese lander carrying the Rashid rover has traveled 1.6 million kilometers and is scheduled to land on moon on April 25.

It’s no secret that lunar landing missions have a low success rate, with a 40-50 percent chance of an Emirati rover successfully landing on the moon.

“Whether we successfully land on the moon or not, well, it’s a risky business but again it’s not the end. We have already started working and planning for the next operation at MBRSC irrespective of this success. We’ve started work on the concepts and objectives but have not decided on a name yet.”

“It’s not the end, if it doesn’t happen this time, it will be (considered) a trial and we will continue with the second, third and so and so forth (missions) until we succeed.”

Dr Hamad Al Marzouqi was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.

  • Canada will block access to TikTok from official cell phones

    [ad_1]

The Canadian government will ban, starting Tuesday (28), federal employees from using the Chinese app TikTok on official cell phones as it poses an “unacceptable” risk to their privacy and security.

Mona Fortier, chair of the Treasury Board of Canada, the public body charged with overseeing federal employees, said in a statement that effective February 28, the app will be removed from all official cell phones.

“Users of these devices will also be blocked from downloading the app in the future. After an analysis of TikTok, the Director of Information Systems Canada has determined that it poses an unacceptable level of privacy and security risk.”

Fortier justified the measure because TikTok’s data entry and collection methods “provide considerable access to the contents of the phone”.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a news conference that while the government wants to respect Canadians’ right to freedom of expression, there are also “very important principles about data protection and security for Canadians”.

“Like many countries around the world, we are carefully considering how to ensure Canadians’ safety online. And the decision is that it is best that government teams and workers do not have access to TikTok due to security concerns,” added Trudeau.

The premier also mused that other Canadians have considered the risk TikTok poses to their security “and perhaps” will act accordingly.

Likewise, Trudeau opened the door for the government to take more measures to ensure the security of official apparatus.

The ban on the use of TikTok on official Canadian cell phones comes a few days after the European Union adopted a similar measure. The United States has already banned the use of the application on official cell phones in 2022.

  • ‘Disappointment’ in Brussels after Israel expels MEP on official visit to Palestine

‘Disappointment’ in Brussels after Israel expels MEP on official visit to Palestine

    [ad_1]

    britain assange 06430

EU leaders expressed surprise and regret Tuesday after the Israeli government barred a member of the European Parliament from entering the country on an official visit and deported her to Spain.

Ana Miranda, a Galician MEP in the Greens group, landed at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv Monday evening along with eight other lawmakers from two European Parliament delegations, one for Israel and one for Palestine. On the orders of the Israeli interior ministry, Miranda was put on a flight to Madrid.

“It’s a diplomatic conflict [and] it’s intolerable that Israel exerts control over members of a delegation that’s going to Palestine, not going to Israel,” Miranda told POLITICO.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Mission to the EU said: “The only reason that she was not allowed to enter is the issue that she tried to enter [Israel] illegally.” This referred to Miranda’s participation in a flotilla in 2015 that aimed to break the naval blockade of Gaza by Israel.

Israel has recently elected a far-right coalition government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Miranda said that while being held at the airport for three hours, a female border control guard repeatedly told her to “shut up,” and that when Miranda explained that she was an MEP, the person replied: “What is the European Parliament? It’s nothing here.”

Miranda said she did not hide her participation in the flotilla when questioned.

The four-day visit by MEPs this week will include trips to the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where the Palestinian Authority has limited autonomy. The delegation was denied access to Gaza, Miranda said.

Parliament President Roberta Metsola described her “disappointment” on Twitter, saying she will contact the Israeli authorities to demand answers, and also convene the leaders of political groups to discuss the next steps.

Relations between Jerusalem and the Parliament have been cordial as of late, with the institution having hosted Israeli President Isaac Herzog to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in January. Metsola, a Maltese MEP from the center-right European People’s Party, visited Israel in May last year.

Miranda was given the go-ahead to enter Israel, according to emails dated February 2 and 14 between the EU’s External Action Service in Israel and the country’s foreign affairs ministry, seen in full by POLITICO. The emails stated that Manu Pineda, a Spanish far-left MEP who chairs the Palestine delegation, was barred entry, but made no mention of banning Miranda from entering. Miranda said it was a “lie” that she was still banned from entering Israel. “Otherwise they would not have authorized me [to travel],” she wrote in a follow-up message.

The spokesperson for the Israeli Mission to the EU said Pineda — who did not travel to Israel with the rest of his delegation — supports Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization in the EU. The EU’s General Court has ruled that Hamas should be removed from this list, a decision that is currently suspended pending an appeal by the Council.

Pineda told POLITICO in a statement: “I am not a Hamas supporter, no matter how much the Israeli regime insists.”

He continued: “The Israeli regime can continue to insist on its alibi of photos and Hamas. But in reality what they are doing today is preventing my work as chair of the Delegation for relations with Palestine and preventing the proper functioning of this delegation, because of my past as a human rights activist in Gaza.

“Israel has a very serious human rights problem and does not want anyone to witness the killings, forced displacements, illegal settlements and systematic arrests,” he added.

Pineda’s Left group has demanded that the Parliament take “reciprocal measures” for Israel. He said this means that no Israeli politician or diplomat should be allowed entry.

“Respect for all elected MEPs and the European Parliament is essential for good EU-Israel relations,” said Nabila Massrali, the European Commission’s spokesperson for foreign affairs. “This decision is deeply disappointing, it is also surprising.”

    Gregorio Sorgi contributed reporting.

Negotiations ongoing for Blinken meeting with Chinese official in Munich

    [ad_1]

    germany munich security conference 23167

Another Washington, D.C.-based diplomat with knowledge of the talks said Blinken had requested a meeting but “had no response from China” as he boarded his flight for Munich on Thursday.

Bloomberg first reported on Monday that Blinken was considering meeting with Wang at the conference, which opened Friday and continues through Sunday.

But there are signs that Blinken is operating under the assumption that a Munich meeting with Wang Yi is highly likely. “Some of the officials who would need to be there for such a meeting left with Blinken to Munich in anticipation of a potential meeting,” said a third Washington, D.C.-based diplomat familiar with the trip’s participants. All three diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to give public statements about the negotiations.

Neither the State Department nor the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C., responded to a request for comment.

The meeting would be the first face-to-face attempt by the Biden administration to address the Chinese spy balloon the U.S. shot down off the coast of South Carolina a week ago.

The potential meeting carries political risk for President Joe Biden, who is trying to balance his administration’s desire to maintain “open lines of communication” with Beijing amid a widening bipartisan uproar about what both a House and a Senate resolution have declared was a “brazen violation” of U.S. sovereignty.

Already tense relations have only been souring since the Pentagon revealed the balloon’s presence over the northwestern U.S. earlier this month. Blinken postponed his originally planned Feb. 5-6 trip to Beijing in response to the incursion. Biden said on Thursday that he’d make “no apologies” for the balloon’s destruction and that he’d be speaking to Chinese leader Xi Jinping to “get to the bottom” of the incident.

The Chinese government has insisted the balloon was a civilian airship for meteorological purposes and has criticized its destruction as “a trigger-happy overreaction.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin signaled a softening in Beijing’s position called on Thursday by calling for bilateral ties to shift to “the track of sound and steady development.”
