Muslims were stopped from holding prayers in a Housing Society in Greater Noida

    [ad_1]

Greater Noida: An unreported incident has come to light, where Hindu residents objected to a small group of Muslim occupants of the same residential society, from holding congregational prayers in the evening after the end of the day’s fast, during the recently concluded month of Ramzan in the Greater Noida Township in the NCR.

The Muslims of the residential society were also forced to stop Taraveeh, the special congregational prayer organized solely during the holy month of Ramzan after the fasting hours.

Even though the prayer was being held in the common commercial building within the society after securing prior permission from the concerned authorities, the police were summoned to stop the prayer promulgating Section 144 in the area.

    MS Education Academy

This has happened in a middle-class upscale gated apartment complex in Greater Noida, part of the Delhi NCR.

In most residential complexes, such common spaces are either used – without objections from any quarter – for small family parties or community functions, including religious ceremonies, especially of the Hindus, but in this case, since Muslims were involved in religious activity, their held congregational prayers become a public row.

The incident in Greater Noida points to the onset of a systemic and institutional bias against Muslims for any form of assembly even if it is for devotional purposes in India.

The message behind the protest by local residents of the society was their diktat that Muslims can live in Hindu majority colonies provided they do not ‘look’ like Muslims in public spaces. They must not publicly flaunt their religious identity or do any collective religious activity in public spaces.

The latest incident of protest in Greater Noida was from relatively ‘well-off’ people who were reasonably educated and can speak English comfortably. This group of people does not comprise the traditional political constituency of the Sangh Parivar but in fact, represents intelligentsias and white-collar communities.

The incident in Greater Noida highlights the grand design of invisibilisation of Muslims in the public space. This design is being attempted by middle-class Hindus in cities and towns across several states of India.

This design has a spiraling impact as it is seen that innumerable Muslims do not like to be identified as Muslims in public places. This could be because of their common demeanor, attire, or other characteristics they can be singled out. As a result, they have stopped acting in ways that they can be identified as Muslims. This invisibilisation of Muslims is a new trend in the changing India.

Web series-inspired fake currency racket busted, 5 held, say Noida Police

    [ad_1]

Noida: Noida Police on Tuesday said it has busted a fake currency racket here with the arrest of five people and seized counterfeit notes of the face value of around Rs 6.50 lakh ahead of local body polls in Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, the gang members were inspired by the popular web series ‘Farzi’ and used Instagram to connect with their network spread across Delhi-NCR, and parts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Additional DCP (Noida) Shakti Avasthy said the arrest has been made by officials of Sector 24 police station and the recovered banknotes include forged notes of denominations 2000, 500 and 200.

“The five people arrested are Faiz Khan, Shibu Khan, Aditya Gupta, Ayush Gupta and Hari Om Atri. They had a chain of network to supply fake notes. They got double the number of fake notes like Rs 200 in fake notes for Rs 100 real currency and the profit margin increased up to four times as one went higher up in the supply chain,” Avasthy told reporters.

“Three men were wanted in connection with the case. One of them has been identified as ‘Singhania’, who lives in Chhapra district of Bihar, and printed these notes, the other is ‘Bhola’, who stays in Delhi and the third goes by the name of ‘Mobin’ in Lucknow,” the officer said.

The police said the accused used WhatsApp with virtual phone numbers to evade tracking.

“They also used Instagram for networking and made reels related to fake currencies. They got in touch with their clients through comments on YouTube videos. They were also inspired by a web series which was released two to three months ago,” Avasthy said.

Of those held, Shibu had been working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, while Faiz was in Kuwait until recently, the police said.

The police said the fake notes were being procured from “Singhania” in Bihar and “Bhola” in Delhi. Both of them were printing the fake notes, police said.

The main accused, Faiz Khan, lived in Kuwait and ran his business in Bihar, Lucknow, Noida, Jaipur and the Delhi NCR region, police officials said.

An FIR has been lodged under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) and provisions pertaining to counterfeit Indian currency notes, they added.

Noida: FIR lodged, 1 arrested over dubbed Ramayana video in resto-bar

    [ad_1]

Noida: Noida Police on Monday said it lodged an FIR and arrested one person after a purportedly dubbed video of TV serial Ramayana was played on a big screen inside a resto-bar in the city.

The police took the action after short clips of the dubbed video of the serial surfaced on social media, with several internet users expressing anguish over it.

The purported video showed the characters of Lord Ram and demon king Ravana with modern music playing in the backdrop, which apparently offended certain social media users.

    MS Education Academy

“The video went viral on social media on Monday morning and is said to be from Lord of the Drinks resto-bar located in the Gardens Galleria mall. Taking cognisance of the matter immediately, an FIR was lodged at Sector 39 police station,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Shakti Avasthy said.

“Three people have been booked in the case and one of them has been arrested,” he said.

The arrested person is the manager of the resto-bar, according to the police.

The FIR has been lodged under Indian Penal Code sections 153A (act prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, or likely to disturb public tranquillity) and 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), the police said.

Sharing the video of the clip on Twitter, an internet user threatened vandalism at the resto-bar.

“This video is being played publicly in Noida and Hindu religion is being mocked. Action should be taken on this immediately otherwise if vandalism takes place, then they only (the resto-bar) would be responsible for it,” a user tweeted in Hindi and tagged UP Police as well as the Noida Police handles in the post.

Video: Controversy in Noida society over Namaz, police deployed

    [ad_1]

Noida: Police were deployed at a group housing society near Noida on Tuesday after a controversy erupted between Hindus and Muslims over “some outsiders” reciting Namaz there, officials said.

The row erupted on Monday evening around 8.30 pm at the Supertech Ecovillage 2 society, under Bisrakh police station limits, after around 30-40 Muslim residents of the society were offering prayers in a vacant room on the third floor above the commercial market of the society, they said.

“On being informed about some controversy in the society, officials of the local Bisrakh police station went to the spot and the Hindu community said we have no objection to all the people of our society offering Namaz but we have an objection to the fact that 6-7 people from other societies are coming to offer Namaz,” the police said in a statement.

“On this objection, the Muslim community itself decided that Namaz will not be offered at that place. Both sides agree on this. Peace and order is maintained on the spot,” the police added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Rajeev Dixit said additional force was deployed at the site as a precautionary measure in view of the episode.

“There is no law and order situation. The matter has been resolved. The deployment of police is part of precautionary measures,” Dixit told PTI.

Greater Noida: Stray dog attacks girl, drags her

    [ad_1]

Greater Noida: A one-and-a-half-year-old girl was attacked by a stray dog while she was playing outside her home in the Beta 1 area.

The child, luckily, was rescued by her grand-father who sustained injuries to his knees while trying to save his grand-daughter who was being dragged by the stray dog.

The incident has been captured on a CCTV camera.

The girl’s father, Ajay Pratap Chauhan, said the incident took place at around 4.30 p.m. on Thursday.

The girl’s grand-father, Chandra Naresh Singh, had served in the Indian Army, and fought in the Kargil War.

Local residents claimed this was not the first such incident to have taken place in the area.

Saying that they feel hassled over the stray dog menace, most have submitted that the authorities were not taking appropriate measures on sterilisation of the dogs, or shifting them to the zones marked for street dogs.

Noida: Overcharging Rs 10 for beer lands liquor seller in jail

    [ad_1]

Noida: Overcharging a customer Rs 10 for a beer bottle in Noida landed a liquor seller in jail on Wednesday and the outlet’s owner slapped with a penalty of Rs 75,000.

According to the excise department officials, the incident was reported to have happened at a liquor outlet in Roza Jalalpur area of Bisrakh.

The department acted on the complaint, sending a decoy customer to the liquor store, a senior official said.

“The outlet sold a Kingfisher Strong beer of 500 ml to the customer for Rs 130, while it costs Rs 120. We had received complaints from many people about the seller overcharging them amounts like Rs 10 or Rs 20, saying he was charging extra for ‘kharcha paani’,” Excise Inspector Abhinav Shahi told PTI.

On the basis of the evidence, action was taken against the liquor seller Ravi Singh and an FIR was lodged at the local police station under Section 64 (overrating) of the Excise Act and IPC 408 (breach of trust by clerk or servant) after which he was arrested and sent to jail, Shahi said.

District Excise Officer Rakesh Bahadur Singh said a penalty of Rs 75,000 has also been issued to the licensee of the liquor store, identified as Surender Singh, over violation of rules. He has also been warned of strict action on repetition of the offence.

“In case of overrating of liquor at licensed outlets, the first time penalty is Rs 75,000, the second time penalty is Rs 1.50 lakh and if it happens for the third time, the excise department can cancel the licence of the liquor outlet,” Singh told PTI.

“We will ensure strict action against sellers or outlets found working in violation of Excise rules and it could lead to cancellation of liquor licence also,” the DEO said.

  • Noida: Brother-in-law jailed for kidnapping, raping teenager in 2011

Noida: Brother-in-law jailed for kidnapping, raping teenager in 2011

    [ad_1]

Noida: A 43-year-old man was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by a court in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday for kidnapping and raping a teenager related to him in 2011, a government lawyer said.

The convict has also been slapped with a penalty of Rs 40,000.

The convict is the husband of a cousin of the victim, who was 16 years of age at the time of the incident and was lured by him on the promise of marriage, the lawyer said.

The man was convicted under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping to compel for marriage) and 376 (rape) by Additional Sessions Judge (POCSO Court) Chandra Mohan Srivastava, Additional District Government Counsellor Dharmendra Jaint said.

The girl had gone missing on June 30, 2011 and an FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint from her family members the next day, with her father raising suspicion on her brother-in-law after someone known to them told them that he had seen the duo on a motorcycle near the Khurja junction, Jaint said.

Also, while the girl was missing, the convict had also not returned to his home since June 30, the government lawyer added.

Police arrested the convict from Punjab while the girl was also rescued, he said.

During the trial, the convict’s counsel pleaded leniency, saying the convict was young at the time of the incident and the sole breadwinner of his family. He said the convict had already spent some time in jail, which should be taken into consideration.

However, the prosecution succeeded in proving that the convict had taken the victim with him by luring her and raped her, after which the court passed the order, Jaint said.

The court sentenced the convict to three years in jail under IPC section 363, five years in jail under section 366 and seven years of rigorous imprisonment under section 376. The sentences will run concurrently.
