  • Sources suggest Amritpal’s case may be handed over to NIA

Sources suggest Amritpal’s case may be handed over to NIA

    [ad_1]

New Delhi/Chandigarh: A source in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has suggested that the case of Amritpal Singh, the self-styled radical Sikh preacher and head of ‘Waris Punjab De’, may be transferred to the Central probe agency.

“There are possibilities that we might take over the matter. There is a terror link connected to Pakistan’s ISI and therefore the Home Ministry can decide to transfer the case to the NIA,” the source said.

As of now, Punjab Police are looking into the matter. Amritpal is currently on the run and there are speculations that he might have fled abroad.

Punjab Police are planning to book Amritpal under the provisions of National Security Act (NSA), sources privy to the development told IANS.

In the interest of public safety, the Punjab government has extended the suspension of SMS and mobile internet services, except voice call, till Monday noon.

Amritsar Deputy Commissioner of Police, Parminder Singh Bhandal, told the media that the police have set up 100 checkpoints in Amritsar and its outskirts to physically check vehicles. CRPF jawans are accompanying the policemen at the checkpoints.

Anticipating disturbance of peace, a large contingent of paramilitary force has been deployed outside Amritpal Singh’s native village, Jallupur Khaira in Amritsar district.

A special team of police, comprising personnel from seven districts, had followed the separatist leader’s convoy while he was on his way to Jalandhar’s Shahkot tehsil on Saturday.

“Amritpal’s vehicle was chased for 20-25 km. His vehicle was at the front. However, he managed to escape by changing his vehicle,” Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said.

Section 144 has been imposed in many districts of the state. The police have also increased security across Punjab. In addition, all vehicles are being checked on the Punjab-Haryana border.

Meanwhile, Amritpal’s father, Tarsem Singh, has told the media that the police should have arrested him before he left the house.

“We don’t have any information about his whereabouts. They carried out a search at our residence for 3-4 hours, but did not find anything illegal,” he said.

He also termed the police action as “unjustified”, claiming that his son was weaning the youth off drugs.

“Why are the police not acting against criminals and those involved in drugs trade,” he asked.

  • NIA files chargesheet against 19 more PFI leaders

NIA files chargesheet against 19 more PFI leaders

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a chargesheet against 19 more leaders of the banned organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) in a case related to a criminal conspiracy aimed at destabilising the country, an official said.

This is the fifth chargesheet filed by the NIA in connection with the matter this month.

“The investigation has exposed a trail of funding by the PFI to its terror operatives and weapons trainers across the country, both in cash and through regular bank transfers, in the guise of payment of salaries. All these PFI trainers have been arrested in cases registered either by the NIA or by different state police forces,” the NIA has alleged in the chargesheet.

An official said the NIA also froze 37 bank accounts of the PFI as well as 40 other bank accounts belonging to its 19 leaders.

The official said that a criminal conspiracy was hatched by PFI to divide the country on communal lines.

The NIA also learnt that “the ultimate objective of the conspiracy was to overthrow the existing system of secular and democratic governance in India and replace it with an Islamic Caliphate, along with Shariah/Islamic Law”.

The NIA said that PFI had devised a well-planned strategy to wage “an armed struggle against the Government of India by radicalising and recruiting Muslim youth who had already pledged their allegiance to the PFI and its ideology and tactics through administration of the oath of secrecy and loyalty (bayath)”.

According to the NIA, “these highly radicalised men were being trained in the use of arms and weapons in various ‘Arms Training Camps’ being conducted by PFI across the country with the intention of raising a well-trained ‘PFI Army’. PFI had hatched plans for its Army to wage a war to disintegrate and dismember the Indian Republic”.

Officials said the PFI’s activities included empowerment of Muslims and marginalised sections of society through campaigns and so-called social welfare schemes, in the guise of which the organisation was promoting its anti-India and violent agenda.

  • NIA Court Charges Kashmir Journalist Fahad Shah, Ala Fazali

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Kashmiri journalist Fahad Shah and Ala Fazali have had charges framed against them by a special court in Jammu designated under the NIA act, in a case investigated by the State Investigation Agency (SIA).

According to a senior police official who spoke to news agency KDC, charges have been filed against Kashmiri journalist Fahad Shah and Ala Fazali in a case investigated by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in Jammu. The charges were framed by Special Judge Ashwani Kumar, designated under the NIA Act, on March 16, 2022, in connection with FIR No. 01/2022 of PS SIA Jammu.

He said that this is for the first time the court has framed charges for writing seditious material. “Bringing it up to the stage of framing of charges after preliminary hearings in such matters is usually a very difficult task. The write up for which the investigation was conducted and charges were framed is also available,” he said.

SIA in an exclusively statement to KDC said “The case pertains to an information received by PS CIJ (SIA Jammu) on 04.04.2022 along with a copy of an article titled ‘The Shackles of Slavery Will Break’ written by one Aala Fazili and published in the digital magazine (portal) ‘The Kashmir Walla’ through its Editor-in-Chief cum Director Peerzada Fahad Shah. The duo accused under an active conspiracy and Paksitan’s support had resurrected a platform reviving the narrative in support of terrorist and separatist eco-system. The duo had been spreading the anti-India narrative by exploiting the digital platforms under a concealed and camouflaged set-up, with the help of illicit funding received from hostile foreign agencies and proscribed terrorist organisations. The investigation has established that the duo accused was in touch with secessionists across the border and also with some identified terrorists locally. Through their publications the duo have brazenly advocated terrorism and glorified the terrorists with the sole intention to radicalize the youth of the J&K and to entice and incite them in joining secessionist and terrorist organisations.”

They said “The SIA had charge-sheeted the case in the court of Special Judge under NIA Act, Jammu on 13.10.2022 after procuring the requisite government sanction, which came up for hearing on charge/discharge on 16.03.2023.”

“The case was vehemently argued by the Addl PP representing the UT of J&K in the court. After hearing the rival contentions, the Special Court found sufficient material against the duo accused collected by the SIA and framed the charges against Aala Fazili u/s 13(unlawful activity), 18 (conspiracy, advocating, abetting, inciting, facilitating a terrorist act or any preparation to commit a terrorist act), UA (P) Act, 121(abetting  waging of war against government of India)  153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence)  IPC and against Peerzada Fahad Shah u/s 13 (unlawful activity), 18  UA(P ) Act (conspiracy, advocating, abetting, inciting, facilitating a terrorist act or any preparation to commit a terrorist act) , 121 (abetting  waging of war against government of India), 153-B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) IPC and 35 (accepting foreign contribution in contravention of provisions of FCRA, or any order or rule therein)  , 39 (violation of FCRA by a company tantamount to contravention by the persons incharge or responsible for business of such company) Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010, the statement added.
