Turkish national wins Rs 33 Crore in Big Ticket Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: A Turkish national won the grand prize of 15 million Dirhams (Rs 33,36,93,940) in the Big Ticket Abu Dhabi weekly draw on Friday.
The winner Sam Heidaritorshizi won the mega draw after his ticket number 172108 was picked in the Dh15 million series 249.
While Salim Al Bastaki from United Arab Emirates (UAE) won the second prize of one million Dirhams (Rs 2,22,46,262), Indians Linta Thomas won the third prize of 100,000 Dirhams (Rs 22,24,626), and Mallesh Thumpeti won the fourth prize worth 50,000 Dirhams (Rs 11,12,313).
Tickets can be purchased online through the Big Ticket website or by visiting the store counters at Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Ain Airport.

Telangana wins 3 bronze medals at National Women’s Chess Championship

Hyderabad: Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) chairman Anjaneya Goud on Friday honoured the winners of the National Women’s Chess Championship – 2023.
The championship was held at Pollach, Tamil Nadu, and the Telangana women’s chess team won three bronze medals.
Speaking on the occasion, Goud congratulated the state team for excelling beyond its capacity and winning the medals.
Telangana State Women’s Chess Team led by Kirti Ganta (Captain), alongside teammates Sarayu Natura Beti, Sneha Bharathi, Yashvi Jain, and Shirisha won three bronze medals and placed fourth overall in the tournament.
He expressed jubilation that the athletes have achieved excellent results with the support of SATS.
He also informed that the Telangana State Women’s Chess Championship was also organized by ‘SATS’ to encourage women in chess.

GCE Srinagar Hosts Two Day National Conference On Implementing NEP-2020

SRINAGAR: Govt. College of Education, Institute of Advanced Studies Srinagar organized a two-day national conference on the Implementation of NEP-2020 in Higher Education Institutions under the initiative of India’s Presidency of G20.
The two-day national conference on the National Education Policy 2020 kicked off with an inaugural session on March 1st. The event began with Dr Seema Naz, Principal of the host institution, welcoming all the guests. In her address, she highlighted the achievements of the institution in the field of teacher education and its recent Grade A accreditation for the third consecutive time under the 2023 NAAC accreditation.
Fazl Illahi, the Coordinator of the conference, then read the backdrop of the conference, where he deliberated on the major reforms proposed in the policy and suggested a roadmap for teacher education institutions. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Manisha Priyam from the Department of Education Policy, Ministry of Education, NIEPA. In her address, she explored the issue of multidisciplinarity in terms of languages and discussed the ‘new precepts in NEP-2020.’
Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, Pro Vice Chancellor, Savitribhai Phule University, Pune, in his special address, highlighted the importance of engaging the learner, the need for better teacher preparation for the new role, creation of research ecosystems, and the internationalization of higher education. Finally, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat initiated the vote of thanks, and the session was moderated in chaste Urdu language by Prof. Abdul Gani Kumar.
The conference aimed to discuss the ground realities, institutional preparedness, curriculum, manpower, institutional goals, research, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, courses offered, and ICT integration, among other things. The panel discussions that followed brought together several eminent academics who shared their insights on the operationalization of the National Education Policy 2020.
The panel discussion on the theme ‘NEP-2020, Making It Happen’ was held on the second day of the conference, and several renowned professors and experts in higher education participated in the discussion. The discussion revolved around the different aspects of NEP-2020, including ground realities, institutional preparedness, curriculum, manpower, research, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, courses offered, and ICT integration. The panelists also discussed the challenges and issues in implementing NEP-2020 and how institutional development plans (IDPs) can help customize the needs of higher education institutions for the successful implementation of NEP-2020.
During the panel discussion, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges at the Higher Education Department, emphasized the importance of considering ground realities, institutional preparedness, curriculum, manpower, institutional goals, research, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, courses offered, and ICT integration when implementing NEP-2020. She also highlighted the role of the Institutional Development Plan (IDP) in customizing the needs of higher education institutions.
Other experts, including Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, Prof. Farooq Masoodi, Prof. Mahmood Ahmad Khan, Dr. K. Ratnabali, and Dr. Geetanjali Kale, spoke about various aspects of implementing NEP-2020, such as the provision of the credit system, learning activities, teaching to research, institutional collaboration, sustainability, collaboration with industry, recruitment of teachers, assessment, student diversity, innovation, and academia-industry linkages.

In the valedictory session, Conference Coordinator Mr. Fazl Illahi presented a detailed report of the two-day conference. Prof. Yasmeen Ashai highlighted the need for all higher education institutions to have vibrant centers for career counseling and research. She also discussed the initiatives taken up by the Department of Higher Education in Jammu and Kashmir regarding the implementation of NEP-2020.
The conference provided a platform for experts to discuss the various aspects of implementing NEP-2020 and highlighted the importance of considering ground realities, institutional preparedness, and collaboration with the industry for successful implementation.
The conference concluded with a valedictory session, where the conference coordinator presented a detailed report of the event, and the Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir emphasized the need for vibrant centers of career counseling and research in all higher education institutions.

Punjab village to get national award for sanitation work

Chandigarh: Peroshah village in Punjabs Gurdaspur district will be honoured with the national award — Swachh Sujal Shakti Samman 2023 — by the President of India and the Union Minister for Jal Shakti on March 4.
The award will be given to village sarpanch Harjinder Kaur for providing excellent sanitation facilities. In the context of International Women’s Day (March 8), this award will be given to those women who have done good work in the water supply and sanitation sectors.
State Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa said that with the support of the state government, the village has got recognition at the national level by properly managing waste water and solid and liquid waste.
Peroshah village falls in the Sri Hargobindpur block near Batala, where dirty water is being purified by the villagers using the Thapar technology following which the water is being used for irrigation. Also, compost is being prepared from the waste in the village itself.
Harjinder Kaur has expressed happiness over the village being named for the award.
She said that other villages should also come forward to establish such projects with the help of the government.

Islamic University Observes ‘National Science Day’

SRINAGAR: The Islamic University of Science and Technology in Awantipora commemorated National Science Day, marking the discovery of the Raman effect, with a program themed “Global Science for Global Wellbeing.”

Khushbu Sundar nominated as member of National Commission for Women

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president K. Annamalai on Monday said that actor-turned-politician and BJP national executive member, Khushbu Sundar has been nominated as a member of the National Commission for Women.
The order issued by the NCW Director said that the nomination is for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge or till the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
Annamalai in a tweet congratulated Khushbu on her nomination for the post of NCW member.
He said: “It is a recognition of her relentless pursuit and fight for women’s rights!”
Khushbu in her response said that Annamalai has always been a great encouragement to her.
Khushbu has been in the news for her outbursts against rival political leaders.

President Murmu to inaugurate National Cultural Festival

Jaipur: President Droupadi Murmu will formally inaugurate the National Cultural Festival in Bikaner on Monday.
She is scheduled to reach Bikaner at 3.25 p.m., and after the inauguration, the President will depart for the national capital at 5.50 p.m.
Around 1,200 policemen have been deployed in the city as well as the Dr. Karni Singh Stadium as a security measure.
The President will reach Bikaner on board a special Air Force aircraft which will land at an Air Force’s special airstrip.
At around 4 p.m., she will be joined by artists from across the country.
While inaugurating the National Culture Festival here, the President will address the common people.

Sullivan elaborated on the president’s comments Sunday, saying the United States is “taking a very hard look at what it is that Ukraine needs for the immediate phase of the war that we’re in.” Right now, those needs include “tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, artillery, tactical air defense systems” Sullivan said — but not the advanced warplanes Ukraine has requested.
“F-16s are a question for a later time,” Sullivan said during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “And that’s why President Biden said that, for now, he’s not moving forward with those.”
When pressed by CNN’s Dana Bash about whether that means the U.S. ruling out sending F-16s later on, Sullivan reiterated Biden’s Friday comments.
“What President Biden said is what goes across the administration. And he was very clear. He said: ‘I’m ruling them out for now.’”
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) argued Sunday that the Biden administration shouldn’t wait, since Ukraine has “a window of time” to launch a successful counteroffensive that could soon close.
“When we slow-walk and slow-pace this thing, it drags it out,” he said on ABC’s “This Week.”

‘Congress will set up National Election Fund’

Raipur: The Congress’ draft political resolution has mentioned that it will replace the current system of Electoral Bonds which the party termed as fatally flawed and fully corrupt.
“The Congress will set up a National Election Fund to which all may contribute. During elections, funds will be allocated to political parties using transparent and fair criteria laid down by law,” the draft said.
It said that more than 14 recognised political parties, several eminent activists, and computer scientists have raised concerns about the efficacy of EVMs to the Election Commission, but have not received any response so far.
“When voters lose faith in the integrity of the electoral process, especially EVMs, our democracy hollows from within.”
The draft noted that the Congress would build the widest possible consensus with all like-minded political parties to take up the issue with the Election Commission.
