    Srinagar, Jan 26 (GNS): The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from CRPF contingent at the office premises today to celebrate 74th Republic Day, here.

    The unfurling of tricolor was followed by the National Anthem.

    Meanwhile, the Div Com extended Republic Day greetings to the officers of Divisional Administration and security who were present on the occasion.

    Among others present on the occasion were Additional Commissioner Kashmir Qazi Sarwar, Additional Commissioner Kashmir Abid Hussain Kira, police officers and other officers and staff of Div Com office.(GNS)

Glorifying their contributions, he said that it is the result of their supreme efforts that we are living in a free country.

    Chairperson also deliberated on the ongoing development scenario of the Achabal Area and said that the area is touching new heights with active participation of people in government initiatives.

    On this Occasion BDC Vice President Mohammad Maqbol Ganie also Highlighted the efforts besides achievements made by the district under various priority areas including education, healthcare, languishing, back to village, district capex, agriculture and allied sectors, women and youth empowerment, MGNREGA, JJM, water and electricity supply to Anganwadi Centers and schools, rural development, macadamization and road connectivity, Social Welfare, Nasha Mukt Bharat, Industries, self employment and creation of durable and sustainable assets.

    The ceremony concluded with prize distribution for Employees from various departments,Media Persons were also felicitated for exemplary public service.

    As is known, January 25 is observed as National Voters Day to commemorate the founding day of the Election Commission of India, which was created on this date in 1950. The first National Voters Day was observed on January 25, 2011, and ever since, it has been observed on January 25 with a particular theme. For 2023, the theme was “nothing like voting, I vote for sure”.

    Meanwhile, pledge functions were also held at all the Units, Wings and District Headquarters of J&K Police across Jammu and Kashmir. (GNS)

    Mumbai: National snooker champion Kamal Chawla of Railways and runner-up Sparsh Pherwani of Maharashtra launched their campaigns on a winning note, as they comfortably won their respective round of 64 matches of the Cricket Club of India (CCI)-organised Rs 12.1 lakh prize-money CCI Snooker Classic 2023 here on Tuesday.

    Indian No. 1 Chawla potted steadily to brush aside the challenge from Delhi’s Sandeep Gulati marching to a 4-2 (78-12, 53-11, 37-84, 40-66, 65-39, and 53-29) victory in the best-of-7-frames encounter played at the CCI’s Sir Wilson Jones billiards hall.

    Meanwhile, the Mumbai-based India No. 2, Pherwani was in good nick and compiled three half-century breaks as he sent E. Pandurangaiah of Railways crashing out by racing to a 4-0 (80-11, 94-21, 71-23, and 73-0) win.

    Meanwhile, Maharashtra state No. 1 snooker player Hasan Badami showed good touch and was in control as he strolled past Uttar Pradesh’s Paras Gupta clinching a 4-2 (64-42, 58-78, 51-76, 81-51, 65-18, and 62-35) victory. Badami will take on Pherwani in the next round.

    Mumbai’s Ishpreet Singh Chadha, the India No. 3, was also striking the ball well and rolled in three half-century breaks — 65 in the first frame, 81 in the third and 59 in the fifth — to overcome Dilip Kumar of Tamil Nadu for a convincing 4-2 (100-38, 18-61, 81-1, 58-65, 100-1, and 64-49) victory to join his city-mate Pherwani in the last 32.

    Alfie Lee from England settled down quickly and without much opposition outplayed Ketan Chawla cruising to a 4-0 (71-6, 73-66, 72-13, and 78-65) win. The Englishman for his good showing produced runs of 42 and 44 in the first two frames during his win.

    National Junior billiards champion Rayaan Ramzi of Mumbai crashed out losing 2-4 to Delhi’s Jaisom Malhotra in an absorbing match that went the distance. Razmi after losing the opening two frames came roaring back to win three successive frames to take a 3-2 lead. But, Malhotra arrested Rayaan’s charge by winning the sixth to level the frames scores before comfortably winning the decider to complete a 73-29, 72-58, 19-53, 36-67, 23-71, 58-28, and 76-19 success.

    Jaipur: BJP President J.P. Nadda on Monday said that his party is the only national party left in India as all others, including the Congress and several regional outfits, have become “family parties”.

    Addressing the BJP Rajasthan State Working Committee meeting here, he attacked the Congress over its Bharat Jodo Yatra, alleging that those who raised slogans against India are walking in it.

    Nadda also said that in 2023, the BJP will form a government in Rajasthan with a three-fourth majority under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Congratulating the state leadership and their entire team for the successful organisation of Jan Aakrosh Yatra and Jan Aakrosh meetings, he said: “We have to maintain this mission and continuity of such campaigns.”

    Nadda claimed that the condition of Rajasthan is the worst under the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government under which the graph of crime against women, and Dalits and cyber crime is rising rapidly, while the continuous increase in the prices of electricity, petrol and diesel left the common man of the state troubled.

    He said that the BJP was “not just a political organisation but also a party working for social concerns with human aspect and the whole of India and the whole world saw the social face of the party during the Corona period as it served food, ration, water etc. to the needy across the country”.

    “Along with politics, the social side of the BJP also came in front of the whole world through service. Our party is a party with ideas, we work with politics with mission, politics with ideology, service to the country, party and ideology are paramount for us.

    “There is democracy in our party and we work for the strength of the cadre in a democratic way, BJP is the only national party, all other parties have become family parties, Congress is completely finished, and regional parties have also become family parties,” he claimed.

    Attacking the Congress over its Bharat Jodo Yatra, Nadda alleged: “Congress doesn’t know whom they are uniting, or breaking, in the entire journey of Rahul Gandhi. The same people who shouted slogans against India and made conspiracies against India are walking besides him.”

    He said that the Narendra Modi government gave 22 medical colleges to Rajasthan, while the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will spur development of all its districts, and through the Har Ghar Nal and Har Ghar Jal Abhiyan, it has ensured that pure drinking water is delivered to crores of households in the country, including Rajasthan.

    BJP national General Secretary and state incharge Arun Singh, state chief Satish Poonia, national Vice President Vasundhara Raje, national Secretary and state co-in charge Vijaya Rahatkar, state General Secretary, Organisation, Chandrashekhar, and other senior leaders were present.

    Srinagar, Jan 21: Two youngsters from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district have shinned in the national Pencak Silat Championship held in Maharashtra after bagging the gold medal.

    Two children, who have won gold medals in the Pencak Silat Championship, are Asgar Ali Dar (07) from Chattergam Malik Gund Budgam and Khateeba Arshid (06) from Eidgah, Srinagar.

    Asgar Ali and Khateeba while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that they are very much happy over winning gold medal at the national level.

    They both claimed that they are interested in martial arts and want to represent India at International level.

    Akhter Hussain Dar, father of Asgar, told KNO that his son is very much interested in martial arts and has been learning different art forms from last two years.

    Asgar is learning different art forms at local stadium where trainer is training them and wants to go to international level besides that his aim is to become a police officer as well.

    Humaira Jan, mother of Khateeba told KNO that her daughter has been getting training at Indoor sports stadium in Elahibagh, Srinagar from last two years.

    She said Khateeba is very much interested in learning different art forms and has been practicing since last two years and her goal is to reach international level and bring laurels for Kashmir.

    She requested that in this era every parent must support their children sports field as if child will be talented, he/she can make future in sports field.

    Notably, the National Championship was held at Indoor Sports Complex, Swami Ramanand Teerth University Nanded Maharashtra, from January 13 to 16. Around 1400 players from 34 States participated in the event.

    J&K teams emerged as overall champions with 29 Gold, 38 Silver and 35 bronze medals while Maharashtra emerged as the runners-up in the championship—(KNO)

    Joshimath crisis: Badrinath National Highway develops cracks

    Joshimath: Cracks of one to two metre long have devloped on the Badrinath National Highway in Joshimath, which is the only road that leads to Badrinath, a place of faith for millions of Hindus.

    Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Sinha said that the administration has been keeping a close watch on the land subsidence of the highway.

    Sinha stated that the concerned agencies have been instructed to repair the road. He said it would be completely repaired before the Char Dham yatra.

    Repairing the road before the yatra would pose as a big challenge for the government.

    Significantly, the number of structures that have developed cracks in the holy city has increased to 863.

    In view of the cracks, along with the obstruction of the road to Badrinath Dham, the contact of the Indian Army with the China border may also be cut off.

    Geologist Prof M.P.S. Bisht, after visiting the area, said that the pattern of the cracks is parallel.

    Apart from this, sinking of the huge stones on the side of the road is also becoming a casue of concern for the government.

    In an apparent gesture of support for protesters at home, the Iranian national soccer team decided not to perform the national anthem before their opening World Cup match against England on Monday, Reuters reported.

    According to the news agency, none of the starting 11 players reacted during the play of the national anthem at the Khalifa International Stadium.

    State television in Iran then turned its feed away from their faces.

    The team would decide “collectively” whether to refrain from singing in support of anti-government protestors, according to captain Alireza Jahanbakhsh, AFP reported.

    The brief gatherings in support of the Iranian demonstrators were also seen in Qatar.

    During the Iranian protests, the state police killed dozens of men and women.

    In a joint operation with Delhi police, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) apprehended an Afghan national and confiscated 8 kg of heroin worth 56 crore from the Lajpat Nagar area of Delhi late Thursday, officials said on Friday.

    The arrested accused has been identified as Hakmatullah Noorullah alias Aman.

    Sunil Joshi, SP (Operations) ATS, stated that on October 8, this year, the ATS team, along with the Indian Coast Guard, intercepted a Pakistani boat (Sakar) near Jakhau Coast in Gujarat carrying 50 kilogrammes heroin worth 350 crore and arrested six Pakistan nationals, according to report on Hindustan Times.

    During their interrogation, it was discovered that Hakmatullah, who had been in India on a tourist visa for almost four years, was to receive the package, according to Joshi.

    “After we nabbed Hakmatullah, he confessed about 8 kg heroin he was hiding in a car,” Joshi was quoted by HT.

    “We have seized the heroin and are investigating the case. We are also looking for other suspects who were roped in for transportation of the contraband after it landed on the Gujarat sea coast,” he added.

He said the day is celebrated to make people aware of the various provisions under the legal services authorities act and rights of the litigants . He also informed that the Indian constitution treats every individual equally and provides equal opportunity to promote justice.

    He said all individuals are equal under the law in a democracy and article 14 and 22 ( 1) make it mandatory for the state to ensure equality under the law and a legal system that promotes justice .
