Learn from Rahul, he’s ready to take bullet for nation: Priyanka to PM

    [ad_1]

Jamkhandi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Sunday referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks about verbal abuse, saying one has to take such attacks in their stride in public life and asked him to learn from Rahul Gandhi, who “is ready to take a bullet for the sake of the country”.

Targeting the Congress over its president Mallikarjun Kharge’s “venomous snake” barb at him, Modi on Saturday said till now the party and its leaders had hurled different types of abuses at him 91 times.

At a public meeting here in Bagalkote district, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, said, “At least they (91 abuses) are fitting on one page; if you look at the abuses by them to my family and if we start making a list, we will publish books after books about it.” “It is strange what I’m seeing for the past two-three days. I have seen many prime ministers — Indira Ji (Indira Gandhi), she took bullets for this country. I have seen Rajiv Gandhi. He sacrificed his life for this country. I have seen P V Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh working hard for this country,” she said.

“But he (Modi) is the first prime minister I have seen who comes before you and cries that he is being abused. Instead of listening to your grief, he is coming here and telling you his (problems).” Slamming the prime minister, she said someone in his office had made a list not about the problems of the people, but who had abused him multiple times.

“Have courage Modi ji. Learn from my brother Rahul Gandhi. My brother says he is ready to take a bullet for the sake of this country, not just abuse. My brother says he will stand for truth, whether you abuse, shoot a bullet or stab with a knife,” Priyanka Vadra said.

“Don’t fear Modi ji, this is public life and one has to bear such things. One needs to have courage and move forward,” she said, adding, “Now that I’m talking to you, let me tell you, if you learn one more thing it will be good: listen to the voice of the people.” Congress general secretary in-charge organization K C Venugopal also hit out at Prime Minister Modi over his remarks.

“Summary of PM’s speeches: No agenda. No vision. No promises were fulfilled. He has nothing positive to offer, he can only make baseless allegations,” he said on Twitter.

“PM Modi’s tired tirade against us shows they’ve lost the plot in Karnataka. Even he can sense a Congress wave this time,” he added.

Venugopal also said Priyanka Gandhi’s words are resonating across the nation.

“Modi ji, make a list of the problems that you have failed to solve, not of the attacks you face for your incompetence! Karnataka has made up their mind, and your drama is not going to save the BJP from defeat,” he said.

‘Govt failure’, says Akhilesh on India becoming world’s most populous nation

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: With India becoming the world’s most populous nation according to the latest UN data, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday termed it a result of government failure.

In a tweet in Hindi, Yadav said, “Worrying news: India’s population is the highest. Reason: failure of the government.”

Explaining the reasons, he suggested people wanted more children due to poverty and unemployment and also to lend them a hand in work and support the family.

    MS Education Academy

He said people feared child mortality because of medical shortage, besides the government failed to distribute contraceptives adequately. Not understanding the pressure of population due to lack of education was another reason for the rising population, he added.

The latest UN data showed India has a population of 142.86 crore, the most in the world. Its population by 2050 is expected to rise to 166.8 crore while China’s population would dip to 131.7 crore by that time.

  • Bhagwat: Time to follow footsteps of tribal queen Durgavati who put nation first

Bhagwat: Time to follow footsteps of tribal queen Durgavati who put nation first

    [ad_1]

Satna: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday glorified the valour of tribal queen Rani Durgavati saying she put the nation first and fiercely fought the invaders who had thrust upon a master-servant relationship upon India.

He emphasised that people should rise above petty personal gains and unite to undo this mindset.

“Rani Durgavati fought the attackers (Mughals) valiantly. Her fighting tactics are being used by different armed forces. She fought the foreign power courageously,” he said at a function after unveiling the statue of the tribal queen here.

    MS Education Academy

Those who were part of the First War of Independence in 1857 drew inspiration from the courage and supreme sacrifice of Rani Durgavati, he chief said.

According to history, Rani Durgavati ruled the erstwhile Gondwana Empire from 1550 to 1564. She is remembered for defending her kingdom against the Mughals. Leading her army from the front she sustained injuries fighting the Mughals on a battlefield. She was advised to leave the battlefield but she refused and took out a dagger and killed herself June 24, 1564, in what is known as Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh.

“She often made foreign attackers bite the dust. She wouldn’t have lost had she not been betrayed by her people. Remembering her, we should learn that petty personal gains should not take precedence over the nation’s interests. Rani Durgavati didn’t lose to the enemy’s strength, but due to the betrayal of her own,” Bhagwat said.

He urged people to follow the footsteps of the tribal queen and imbibe her value and valour for protecting the country.

The RSS chief said that foreign invaders have thrust a master-servant mindset upon India to an extent and that people should unite and undo this relationship.

In contrast, he praised the old Indian rulers, saying they worked for the public good and protected society, religion and “Sanatan Dharma” by treating all as equal.

The RSS chief also visited an exhibition on millets at the Majhgawan area in the district where he underlined the need to grow and popularise the consumption of the nutritious cereal.

Millet is a common term to categorise small-seeded grasses that are often termed nutri-cereals or dryland-cereals and includes Sorghum (Jowar), Pearl Millet (Bajra), Finger Millet (Ragi), Little Millet (Kutki), Foxtail Millet (Kakun), Proso Millet (Cheena), Barnyard Millet (Sawa), Kodo Millet (Kodon) and other millets.

India produces more than 170 lakh tonnes of millet, which is 80 per cent of Asia’s and 20 per cent of global production. The year 2023 has been designated as the ‘International Year of Millets’.

  • Trump Wants to Lead a ‘Third World Nation’

Trump Wants to Lead a ‘Third World Nation’

    [ad_1]

Stating simply that he was innocent might have been the more prudent — and accurate — alternative. But prudence and accuracy have never been in Trump’s toolkit, nor has respect for the court. Ever since he appeared on the political horizon — hell, ever since he grew out of short pants — Trump has scorned and degraded practically every democratic institution that has limited or challenged him.

When elections go against him, he bashed the election as corrupt. When the courts defied him, he torched the judges as “so-called” or having “an agenda” or making political judgments rather than judicial ones or of “disgracing the judiciary.” In 2020, he demanded, with little rationale, that Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg recuse themselves from any case involving him. In Trump’s hermetically sealed world, the only evidence needed to declare corruption or banana republichood was that a ruling had gone against him.

Other presidents have clashed with the judiciary, the intelligence community, federal law enforcement and the civil service, but never to the Trumpian extreme of challenging the institutions’ legitimacy. If there is anything remotely “third world” about the United States, the malicious odor of Donald Trump cannot be distant from the stink. The unfounded slurs Trump flings at the courts and the election processes are the sort of acts that “third-world dictators” commit. Trump isn’t the victim of third-worldism, he’s the cause.

In fact, that Trump now faces potential accountability for his actions proves the United States is not a failed state after all.

Trump proved his absolute allegiance to third-worldism and his desire for dictatorial powers in December 2022 when he famously took to Truth Social to call for the “termination” of the U.S. Constitution to undo what he called the “massive & widespread fraud & deception” of the 2020 election. No matter what the country’s faults — and they are many — the Constitution has prevented a Mussolini or worse from taking absolute power. This demand for the termination of the Constitution and his egging on and tolerance of the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters only proves his ambition to wreck the nation if it will save his hide.

In his 2016 inaugural address, Trump exhibited his demagogic mindset by describing our nation as engulfed in “carnage” to further his personal political gain. In 2018, he ran down Haiti and the nations of Africa as “shithole” countries while discussing his opposition to immigration.

Today, with prosecutions unfolding in Manhattan and perhaps soon to come in Georgia and beyond, he’s playing a similar word game in hopes of discrediting the courts for his personal gain. In Trump’s view, America is a ruined and backward country — “third world,” as he and his clan put it — not because it resembles any such country in the world but solely because the wheels of justice have rolled up to his address. In Trump’s mind, everything has always been about him. You can’t get more “third world” than a president who instigates a riot to stall the orderly transition of power.

In a democracy, nobody is above the rule of law, not even former presidents. We see through all of his rationalizations, including his latest, which holds that if the justice system prosecutes him, America is just another shithole.

Centre should apologise to the nation for fuel price hike: KTR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working President K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday sought an apology from the BJP-led Union government for skyrocketing fuel prices.

Slamming the Central government for ‘burdening the common man with increased fuel prices’, the BRS leader said in an open letter that the Centre is looting the public by citing international crude oil prices as the reason for the fuel price hike, but their deceit has been exposed.

“In 2013, when the cost of one crude oil barrel was $110, the cost of one litre petrol was Rs 76. Now, when the cost of one crude oil barrel is $66, the cost of one litre petrol is Rs 110,” KTR pointed out.

KTR added that the Centre is fleecing the poor and middle class people by increasing prices just to benefit a few corporates.

“Due to the 45 per cent hike in fuel prices since 2014, all the essential commodities have become costlier,” the state minister said.

KTR also said that due to the rise in diesel price, the state governments have been forced to increase public transport charges and the public transport system is on the brink of a crisis because of the Central government.

“The inflation is also at a 45-year high due to the failures of the Union government,” he added.

The minister wondered that though the Centre makes tall claims regarding importing crude oil at lower prices from Russia, the same benefit is not passed on to the common man and only two oil companies are reaping huge profits.

“The Union government is importing crude oil at lower prices from Russia, refining it, and selling the refined fuel to other countries. They are hiding this key information from the public,” KTR said.

He added that the Centre also reduced windfall tax on fuel to benefit some corporate entities.

KTR took a potshot at Central ministers for their remarks that bringing fuel under the purview of GST would reduce prices.

“The LPG cylinder price, which is under GST, has been hiked from Rs 400 to Rs 1200, making it the costliest LPG cylinder in the world,” KTR said.

He also accused the Central government of conspiring to stop discussions on price rise in the Parliament.

“Rejecting the BJP is the only way to stop the looting of the Central government and to reduce fuel prices,” KTR said.

K’taka elections will send out a message to the nation: Kharge

    [ad_1]

Belagavi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Monday that the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka is very crucial as it will send out a message to the entire nation.

Addressing the ‘Yuva Kranti Samavesha’, a youth convention, here, Kharge said, “We need to face the elections collectively. Belagavi is a sacred land. The 39th session of AICC was held here in 1924, which was the only session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.”

Stating that the Congress used to register victory in 15 to 16 constituencies out of the 18 in Belagavi, Kharge said that considering the present scenario, the party will sweep all the seats in the district this time.

“The state has never wirnessed corruption at this scale as it is seeing now. Why did Amit Shah not order a probe into the allegations levelled by contractors’ associations? The police have been sent to Rahul Gandhi’s residence for his statement made in Kashmir 46 days back. In Karnataka, even after proofs are provided, no probe is ordered,” Kharge said.

The state and the Centre are quoting double the amount for tenders and getting 40 per cent commission on each, he claimed.

“PM Modi had spoken about me during his visit to Belagavi. He had said that my remote control is with someone else. Can you tell who has the remote control of BJP President J.P. Nadda? If Rahul Gandhi asks questions about Adani in the Parliament, the questions are removed. There is no democracy in the country, but there is casteism. Is it wrong to say that there is caste discrimination in the country,” Kharge asked.

“This is the land of Kittur Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna and Belawadi Mallamma. This is the land of valiant individuals, and they can’t be defeated by the ED or CBI. Rahul Gandhi is not afraid of BJP’s threats. Let them torture us as much as they want, we are prepared for everything. No matter how hard the BJP tries to bury us, we are like seeds and we will take birth again and again,” Kharge said.

Mexican president: My nation has more democracy than U.S.

    mexico president 91408

The Mexican president responded “there is more democracy in Mexico than could exist in the United States.”

“If they want to have a debate on this issue, let’s do it,” López Obrador said pugnaciously. “I have evidence to prove there is more liberty and democracy in our country.”

The Mexican president is notoriously touchy about criticism, whether it comes from human rights groups, non-governmental organizations, the press, or Mexican regulatory or oversight agencies.

Price said in a statement that “Today, in Mexico, we see a great debate on electoral reforms on the independence of electoral and judicial institutions that illustrates Mexico’s vibrant democracy.”

“We respect Mexico’s sovereignty. We believe that a well-resourced, independent electoral system and respect for judicial independence support healthy democracy.”

At the root of the conflict are plans by López Obrador, which were approved last week by Mexico’s Senate, to cut salaries and funding for local election offices, and scale back training for citizens who operate and oversee polling stations. The changes would also reduce sanctions for candidates who fail to report campaign spending.

López Obrador denies the reforms are a threat to democracy and says criticism is elitist. He argues that the funds would be better spent on the poor.

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated over the weekend in Mexico City’s main plaza, calling the cuts a threat to democracy.

‘Housewife a nation builder…’, says Kerala HC while ordering adequate compensation to woman

    [ad_1]

Kochi: The Kerala High Court slammed the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for denying compensation to an accident victim on the ground that she is a housewife and does not earn any income.

The High Court not only called the role of the housewife to that of a nation builder, but also ordered for a good compensation to be paid to her.

Justice Devan Ramachandran said that such a stand by the transport body was ‘outrageous’ and urged that accident compensation should be same for a housewife and a working woman as the former also invests her time for the family and ensures that the next generation is fostered with the highest levels of excellence.

He also went on to point out that the life of human beings can never be tested on the scales of their monetary worth but by their contribution and selflessness.

Specifically on the role of a housewife, the judge said that her contributions as a mother and wife is invaluable.

“At the outset, I must say that the contentions of the KSRTC, that a housewife earns no income and therefore, not eligible for compensation for disability and loss of amenities, is outrageous and beyond comprehension. The role of a mother and wife at home is beyond compare, and she is a true nation builder. She invests her time for the family and ensures that the next generation is fostered with the highest levels of excellence; and her efforts can never be taken trivially or brushed aside, as being without monetary value. The lives of human beings are never tested on the scales of their monetary worth, but by their contribution and selflessness,” the court said.

The court made this directive while hearing an appeal moved by a housewife challenging the order of the Motor Vehicle Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) that awarded her only Rs 40,214 as compensation for the grievous injuries she sustained on account of a rash application of brake by a KSRTC bus driver.

The woman instead sought Rs 2 lakh as she had to undergo extensive treatment and trauma for a long period of time after the incident.

This prompted her to approach the High Court with an appeal and the judge termed it as outrageous stand taken by the KSRTC, granting the petitioner a compensation of Rs 1,64,654, instead of Rs 40,214 awarded earlier.
