    Srinagar, Apr 20 (GNS): The crescent for the month of Shawwal 1444 A.H has not been sighted anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir, Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said here on Thursday evening.

    Talking to GNS, Islam said there was no testimony from anywhere regarding the sighting of crescent, leading this office to conclude that the Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday across Jammu and Kashmir.

    The Grand Mufti has extended in advance his warm Eid greetings to the whole Ummah and especially to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “May this auspicious eve brings with it a lot of joy, happiness, peace and prosperity to all of us”, Islam said. (GNS)

    Srinagar, Apr 20 Jammu and Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Nasir-ul Islam Thursday said that no witness from any part of the J&K was received about moon sighting and hence a consensus was reached that the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday.

    “No evidence or any witness was received from any part of J&K about the sighting of the moon. Hence, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday,” Grand Mufti told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

    He said the decision to announce Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday was taken after consensus with the Ulema from Kashmir and Jammu region respectively that include head of Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, patron of Darul Uloom Rahimiya Bandipora, Moulana Rehmatullah Qasimi, also from Darul Uloom Bandipora Mufti Nazir Ahmed Qasmi, Mufti Muzaffar, Mufti Abdur Raheem via Baramulla. Khateeb at the shrine of Hazrat Naqshband Sahab (RA) Prof Muhammad Tayib Kamili , Chairman Karwani-e-Islami Ghulam Rasool Hami, from Sautul Awliya Fayaz Ahmed Rizvi, Shia Scholars Aga Syed Al Hassan Mosvi, Aga Syed Haadi and Masoor Abbas Ansari, Muhammad Yaseen Kirmani, Gen Sec Muslim Personal Law Board, Mufti Himayon, Shabir Ahmed Geelani, Abdur Hameed Nayeemi, Moulana Younus and Abdur Rehman Ashrafi from Qazigund. From Jammu, Ulema’s who were part of the consensus include Mufti Nazir Ahmed, Mufti Shabir Ahmed Noori, Qari Ali Hussain, Haji Muhammad Shafi Nasri, Mufti Liyqat Ali Rajouri, Master Ashraf from Kathua, Moulana Muzaffar Hussian Rizvi from Jammu, Moulana Shafi Rizvi from Samba, Mufti Muhammad Iqbal from Poonch, Hafiz Syed Yasir from Udhampur, Bashir Ahmed Qadri and Reasi and Haji Muhammad Tariq from Jammu—(KNO)

    ‘Recording of video-clips’ part of practice to avoid last minute rush regarding the final announcement’

    Srinagar, Apr 19 (GNS): Grand Mufti, J&K, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam was on Wednesday caught in a quagmire after a video-clip, purportedly showing him making an announcement regarding the sighting of ‘Shawal moon’ went viral on social-media platforms. The video-clip has been allegedly leaked by some miscreant believed to have accompanied a group of media persons from government-run Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar.

    The viral video-clip, as per GNS, caught the netizens in frenzy and mostly took potshots at Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam over the matter. Many of the netizens, in knowhow of the things, somehow justified the recording of video-clip, saying it was part of the practice to pre-record both the versions, one affirming and another negating the sighting of the moon. The video-clip however created much confusion as the ‘miscreant’ had only posted the negating version of the statement.

    When contacted over the issue, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam told GNS that the recording of the video-clips’ is part of the practice to avoid last minute rush, at the time when the announcement is usually made.

    “I was approached by some media persons of DoorDarshan Kendra Srinagar to pre-record the video-clips”, Islam said adding they Door Darshan people can’t make it to me at the time of actual announcement, due to their busy schedule.

    “While the recording was going on in presence of over ten people, some miscreant has recorded one version of my statement and posted it on social-media platforms in an attempt to create confusion”, Islam said.

    “If at all the video-clip in circulation makes it to the social media, I ask the people not to consider it until there is any announcement from any credible media organization”, Islam said.

    The Grand Mufti, in the meantime said that he has referred the matter to law-enforcement agencies for action against the ‘miscreant’, making an attempt to breach law and order situation.

    “We are checking through CCTVs who this mischievous person is”, he said adding “A letter has been sent to Cyber Crime and the matter also referred to the Crime Branch and the Director General of Police also informed about it to register an FIR and take stern action the person who has done this mischief.”

    “The miscreant has no understanding how bad repercussions such a thing is cast in the public sphere”, Islam said. (GNS)

    Srinagar, April 01:  Jammu and Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Nasir-ul Islam Saturday said that Rs 65 have been fixed as the Sadaqat-ul-Fitr per person this Ramdhan while as there is no harm in paying more depending upon the financial capacity of the person.

    He said that the amount for Sadakat-ul-Fitr has been fixed after thorough consensus with the Ulema from Kashmir and Jammu regions. Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said that it is mandatory for every person to pay Sadaqat-ul-Fitr @Rs 65 this holy month.

    “One organization Sautul-Awliya has announced Rs 70 in their individual capacity as Sadaqa-t-ul Fitr. If any person wants to pay Rs 70 or more than that, there is no harm as rewards will be more,” the Grand Mufti said.

    He said Sadaqat-ul-Firt has to be paid to downtrodden, poor, destitute, orphans, homeless and not to Masjids, Shrines, Khanqahas or any religious organisation. Mufti Nasir-ul Islam said that Fitr amount should reach to the deserving people ahead of Eid so that they too can celebrate the festival along with others.

    Quoting Hadith, he said: “Every Muslim is required to pay Sadaqt-ul-Fitr at the conclusion of the month of Ramadan as a token of thankfulness to Allah for having enabled him or her to observe the obligatory fast. Its purpose is: as a levy on the fasting person. The fasting of the month of fasting person will be hanging between earth and heavens and it will not be raised up to the Divine Presence without paying the Fitr amount.” About Zakat, Mufti Nasir said that Zakat is payable at 2.5% of the wealth one possesses above the nisab. Nisab, which is equal to 85 grams of 24k gold, is the minimum amount of wealth one must have before they are liable to pay zakat—(KNO)

    Srinagar, Mar 22: Announcing the fallibility of the ‘witness’ about sighting of crescent from Poonch, Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Wednesday evening said the Ramadan 1444 A.H will begin from coming Friday.

    Islam told GNS that the office had entrusted its men across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to see if the crescent is observable at any place. “We had earlier received a ‘witness’ from Poonch, which after being put to scrutiny turned too feeble to enable us reach the decision about the start of Ramadan from tomorrow (Thursday)”, Islam said adding “Apart from that witness there was nothing significant seen anywhere.”

    “As such the holy month of Ramadan in Jammu and Kashmir will begin on coming Friday.”

    “I in advance extend my wishes to the whole Ummah especially to people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of the start of auspicious month”, he said further urging the people to make lots of prayers in favour of everyone and nevertheless also help the downtrodden sections of society.

    Notably, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind earlier in the evening announced that crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in Delhi or in any other part of the country and as such month of Ramzan will begin from March 24. (GNS)

    Srinagar, Mar 22: Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has said that his office has received witness’ about sighting of moon for holy month of Ramadan 1444 A.H, though the source of the witness is under scrutiny to make any final announcement.

    Islam told GNS that the office has entrusted its men across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to see if the crescent is observable at any place. “We as such received witness’ from Poonch district of Jammu division suggesting evidence of the Ramadan crescent there”, Islam said adding the source is being scrutinized for its reliability to make any final announcement.
