Perverted narrative on history and Hindutva being spread, need to speed up efforts to check it: RSS

Samalkha: Claiming that many have tried to “distort” the history of India and Hindutva over the years, the RSS has resolved to speed up measures to bring a change in the narrative and restore the country’s prestige.

The assertion came at the conclusion of the three-day annual meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the highest decision-making body of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Tuesday.

“Over the past 50 years, many have tried to present our distorted history. Some people have tried to distort Indian thoughts and Indian philosophy within the country and abroad. Efforts have been made to talk nonsense about Hindutva, raising some issues,” RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said at a press conference.

He accepted that there are “some drawbacks in our society like untouchability.”

“But just raising them doesn’t help,” he said, adding, “the narrative of the country must change. There should be Indian answers to Indian questions, whatever be the situation in India. We have to place India in a respectful position.”

Evils like caste discrimination and untouchability have to be done away with in society, he said.

Hosabale was briefing about the RSS meeting attended by nearly 1400 office bearers of the Sangh including the organisation’s chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Even as the journey towards a new self-reliant Bharat’ has begun shunning the “colonial slavery”, the country will have to face many social and national challenges due to “the mentality and distortions” arising during its long history and also due to “the crookedness of selfish, anti-national elements,” noted an annual report presented by Hosabale at the meeting.

“The forces inimical to Bharat’s unity and progress plan newer conspiracies. They are trying to break society in one way or another or to spread confusion by disseminating perverted narratives on the subjects of the country,” it claimed.

Such inimical forces are instigating language, caste or group discord by using “any situation or event” as an excuse and “inciting” youths against “any government scheme like Agnipath”, the report added.

“Ugly incidents of terror, rancour, anarchy and violence have happened at various places,” the report said, adding such incidents need to be stopped.

“We have to speed up the work . we have to give national direction to ideological narratives and properly mobilise the power of Sajjan Shakti or well-meaning people,” the report added.

With the RSS completing 100 years of its establishment in 2025, the ABPS also resolved to “speed up” its work to achieve the organisation’s centenary year expansion targets with a focus on five main areas.

These were listed ad bringing about social transformation and social harmony in “Hindu society” or Samajik Samarasata, strengthening family structure (Parivar Prabodhan), environmental protection, Swadeshi lifestyle, awareness of civic duty,” Hosabale said.

“Be it unitary or a joint family, the efforts have to be taken to keep family values intact in line with the Hindu thoughts,” he added.

  • JetBlue, Spirit push low fare merger narrative to skeptical DOJ

When asked for details about how the merger could drive down prices, Hayes said fares are a “function of capacity” and that Spirit flights will adopt JetBlue’s seat configuration. Though that means fewer seats, he argued that customers would still save because planes in the new, combined airline will spend more time in the air and less time on the ground.

“One of the benefits of bringing these two airlines together is we can increase the utilization of the airline,” Hayes said. “You have more options to fly that next route to increase the length of time in the day that you’re flying.”

Christie acknowledged that fares on some routes could increase if the merger is approved. But he argued that the new airline would lead to decreased fare costs overall.

Fares are “based on booking patterns happening at that particular time. So you could probably derive individual circumstances where you may see modest changes in fare,” Christie said. “But what’s more important to focus on is the aggregate effect of the larger airline,” he said. “I think hundreds of millions of dollars will be saved.”

However, because the combined airline will ultimately end up removing seats, Justice Department officials are not convinced that the new company won’t be forced to raise prices to recoup those losses, people with knowledge of the matter said.

    DOJ’s decision coming soon

DOJ has a little more than a week to make a final call on whether to sue. The parties had previously agreed on a deadline of Feb. 28, but one of the people familiar with the matter now says that date is expected to slip. Hayes on Thursday also noted that those agreements can always be extended.

He added that JetBlue has been in discussions “with a number of state [attorneys general] as well.” And he also said that there will be “over the next week or two, a very significant amount of political bipartisan support for this transaction.” Hayes declined to comment on any specific meetings with the DOJ.

The companies’ argument before DOJ is essentially that they must merge in order to compete with the big four legacy airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. Once merged, the new entity would be the fifth biggest, behind that group.

DOJ antitrust head Jonathan Kanter, who has an aggressive mandate to fight corporate deal-making, is unlikely to buy that argument.

Kanter however has recused himself from the case because his former law firm, Paul Weiss, represents Spirit, according to one of the people. That would leave the decision in the hands of his deputy, Doha Mekki, and practically it would have little impact.

A DOJ spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment.

Hayes has said several times in the past two weeks that the companies intend to fight for their deal in court, if necessary.

Airlines’ offer to grease the skids

To address DOJ’s concerns, JetBlue has offered to sell off the entirety of Spirit’s operations at Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Boston Logan International Airport, as well as five slots at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Those were picked amid DOJ concerns that JetBlue’s Northeast Alliance with American Airlines reduces competition and consumer choice, said JetBlue Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Robert Land.

Land said the companies are in “advanced” talks with potential buyers for all the assets up for sale, adding that the four largest airlines are not part of the divestiture talks.

Not currently on the table is an offer to abandon the alliance, which the DOJ challenged in court last year and is currently awaiting a ruling from a federal judge in Boston.

“Let’s wait and see what the judge’s verdict is. If we lose the NEA, right, the NEA is off the table,” Hayes said, “If we win the NEA, we won the NEA because it’s pro-competition. Frankly, we can use a number of slots leased to us by American to help JetBlue be bigger.”

BJY Largely Succeeded In Fighting Narrative Of Hatred In Country: Rahul Gandhi

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR:  Congress leader and Member Parliament Rahul Gandhi Tuesday said that Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) has largely succeeded to fight against the narrative of hatred spread across the country and bring the folks together yet again.

“Let me tell you that we have been able to bring the people across the country together yet again through BJY. There were a lot of lessons for us in the Yatra and we have learnt a lot after meeting people of various shades during our journey,” news agency KNO quoted Rahul as having said.

He said that there is no scope for hatred in the country as Congress believes in spreading the message of love. “Our endeavour is to open the shops of love across J&K that has been made a scapegoat of politics,” Rahul said. “Through BJY we have largely been able to fight the disastrous narrative of hatred spread by the BJP in the country.”

He said that primary focus of Congress is to get Statehood and Assembly restored in J&K. Asked if BJY was apolitical, why he was continuously targeting BJP, Rahul said that since Congress is the grand old political party, there will surely be a bit of politics in his speeches during the Yatra. “When KPs, farmers and unemployed youth would meet me during the Yatra and hope that I will definitely rake up their issues, there would obviously be a problem for me if I don’t talk about them,” the Congress leader said. He said there was not even a tinge of hatred for anybody including PM Narendera Modi. “I am not afraid of anybody so why should I have hatred for anyone,” he asid.

He said J&K youth are suffering from depression and discomfort. “We are here to listen to them and understand their issue,” he said, adding that media too has been suppressed to an extent as if Yatra is not happening at all.

To a query about Lal Singh, Rahul said that Singh supported Yatra and Congress appreciates that. “As far as Ghulam Nabi Azad, 90 per cent of his supporters and party men were on our stage. I would like to tender my apology if we have hurt Azad or Lal Singh,” Rahul said. On there are reports that crores are being spent for his BJY, Rahul said that to tarnish his image, BJP and RSS spent thousands of crores and yet didn’t succeed. “I want to tell BJP that money can’t burry the truth which has a nasty habit of come out. BJP has started to understand this reality gradually,” he said. Pertinently, Rahul led BJY will enter Srinagar on January 30.
