    SRINAGAR: A Junior Assistant in Education Department alongside another person were on Wednesday apprehended by a police team, in Sogam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, over accusation of possession of narcotics.

    “During a regular naka check by a team of Police Station Sogam led by SHO Sogam DySP (Prob) Khadim Hussain at Wavoora crossing, a vehicle of the type i10 Grand, bearing V.R. No JK01X 6548 was intercepted. Two individuals, who were in a state of drug-consumption and puffing cigarettes, were found in the vehicle”, reads a statement.

    “Upon questioning, they were identified as Mir Bazil, a Junior Assistant in the Education department, son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir resident of Khurhama, Lolab and Ishaq Khan son of Mohd Abdullah Khan, resident of Maidan Pora, Lolab.”

    “A search of the vehicle was carried out, and during the process, approximately 109 grams of heroin-like substance, wrapped in a piece of white polythene bag, and some quantity of charas-like substance, wrapped in a piece of blue polythene bag, was recovered from a hole adjacent to the mud-guard of the rear tyre on the left side of the vehicle”, maintains the statement.

    “An FIR No. 28/2023 U/S 8 r/w 20,21,29 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Sogam and the investigation is currently underway.”

    “The interception of the vehicle and the arrest of the two individuals is a significant blow to the drug-peddling network in Lolab area, as the said two individuals were becoming a threat to the lives of the young people of the area”, read the statement further. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: An intruder was killed and two others were apprehended as army said to have foiled an infiltration bid on intervening Saturday and Sunday night along Line of Control in Poonch district.

    “On 08 April 2023 at 10:15 pm, own alert troops deployed on the Line of Control in the Poonch Sector observed a suspicious movement of a group (three individuals) close to the Line of Control and at around midnight the group, crossed the Line of Control and started infiltrating on to own side”, a spokesperson of defence ministry based in Jammu said in a statement.

    “Own alert troops kept the movement of the infiltrating group under continuous observation and around 2:am as the group approached the fence, the alert Indian Army troops deployed on the fence challenged the infiltrators”, the statement reads.

    “The intruders started to run away but were engaged by firing, in which one intruder was shot dead, while the other two managed to run into the jungle taking advantage of the thick foliage and rocky outcrop. The area was immediately cordoned to prevent their escape across the Line of Control.”

    The search operation, as per the statement, was launched at first light wherein the dead body of one intruder was recovered at the encounter site. “As the search progressed in the jungle, one intruder was apprehended alive in wounded condition. In the subsequent search the third intruder was also apprehended alive.”

    “In the search operation so far three bags with fourteen packets of Narcotics weighing approx 17 kgs, Pakistan currency, some documents, and eatables have been recovered.”

    “Indian Army troops have by their quick action thus prevented a major infiltration bid of a narco-terror group which had the potential of disturbing the peace in Poonch & Rajouri Districts through its nefarious designs”, reads the statement . (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: A consignment of arms, narcotics and a suspected material, believed to be an IED, has been recovered by Army on the Line of Control in Rajouri district.

    The recovery has been made from Saryah area in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.

    Officials said that Army deployed on LoC in Lam made this recovery during an operation in the forward area.

    They said that the recovered items include arms two pistols, twp pistol magazines, 2kg narcotics, and another suspicious material which is believed to be an Improvised Explosive Device.(KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Friday said that weapons and narcotics are being air-dropped through drones in border villages of Jammu to revive and fuel militancy in the UT where “a peaceful atmosphere is prevailing at present.”

    Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a Jammu Marathon organized by the police, DGP Singh said that at present peace is prevailing in JK and militancy is at its lowest ebb.

    However, weapons fitted with drones along with huge consignments of narcotics are being air-dropped in border villages of Jammu.

    “We have foiled many such bids and seized huge consignments of narcotics. Recently narcotics worth Rs 2 crore were seized,” the DGP said, adding that weapons are meant to be handed over to militants while narcotics is sold and money earned is being distributed among militants.

    “Some part of the amount is sent back to the mentors sitting across who give the same to militants infiltrating into this side to carry out IED and other attacks. The links of narco-terror have been found in Punjab also,” the DGP said.

    DGP said, “G20 events are being organised in Jammu and Kashmir, and we are making all possible security arrangements for the smooth conduct of these events.”

    Earlier on Saturday Indian Army said that troops have recovered Indian and foreign currency worth over Rs 2 crores & around 7kg of narcotics from the residence of one Mohd Rafique in the Poonch sector. (KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Army on Sunday recovered a huge quantity of high-valued narcotics and has arrested three smugglers believed to be running a cross LoC narcotics peddling racket in the district.

    Quoting officials KNO reported that an operation was launched jointly by Army and police in Poonch and three narcotics peddlders have been intercepted.

    The trio was running a cross LoC smuggling racket, said officials.

    Around three kilograms of high-valued narcotics worth crores has been recovered so far in Noorkote village, on LoC in Poonch sector, officials said.

    The operation is going on and more arrests are expected.

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to arrested two narcotic smugglers in north Kashmir’s  Kupwara district.

    A police spokesman in a statement said that during the intervening night of February 23, 2023 and February 24, 2023, based on specific input of Kupwara Police a total of 5 packets of heroine weighing about 4.588 Kilograms were recovered from Karnah area of Kupwara in two separate incidents.

    The spokesman in a statement said that in first case, based on specific input about narcotics smuggling in Taad area, a case vide FIR No.17/2023 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Karnah.

    He said that during the investigation of the case, one suspect namely Farooq Ahmad Shah son of Raqueeb Hussain Shah resident of Panjitara Karnah was picked up for questioning.

    He added that based on his confession, Kupwara Police along with Army (06 JAK Rifles) recovered 03 packets of heroine like substance weighing 2.674 Kgs (with packing) from a hiding place near his house in presence of Executive Magistrate.

    “He has been arrested and further investigation in the case is going on and more arrests are expected,” said the spokesman.

    “Similarly, in another case based on specific input, a case FIR No. 18/2023 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Karnah,” he said, adding that during the investigation of the case, one suspect Raja Aftab Alias Babu son of Raja Ghulam Akbar resident of Teethwal was detained for questioning.

    “Based on his confession, 02 packets of heroine like substance weighing about 1.914 kgs (with packing) were recovered by Kupwara Police along with Army (06 JAK Rifles) in presence of Executive Magistrate near his house at Teetwal. He has been arrested and further investigation is going,” said police spokesman in a statement.

    He said that during the preliminary investigations, it came to surface that both the arrested persons are hardcore narcotic smugglers and had received these consignments from across the LoC to promote drug addiction and further the cause of terrorism in J&K.

    SRINAGAR: State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir on Wednesday said that it has arrested three including a woman for smuggling around 24 kilograms of Narcotics worth crores of rupees from Pakistan.

    An official spokesman in a statement said that targeting the financial networks of terror outfits with an aim to destroy its ecosystem and support structure completely, State Investigation Agency, Kashmir conducted searches on Monday at multiple locations in districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla.”

    “About 04 premises of narco terror suspects in different districts of Kashmir were searched on Tuesday viz residential premises of Abdul Rashid Bhat R/O Padgampora, Awantipora, Danish Farooq R/O Nasrullapora, Budgam, Abdul Rashid Mir R/O Amargrah, Sopore and Ovais Gul Bhat R/O Hardu Akad Anantnag in compliance to search warrant obtained from the Court of Special Judge, designated under NIA Act (TADA/POTA) Srinagar in connection with investigation of case FIR No. 19/2022,  U/S 8/21,29 NDPS Act, 13,17, 18, 39,40 UA (P) Act read with section 120-B, 121, 121 A IPC of P/S CI/SIA Srinagar, registered in Police Station CIK (SIA) Kashmir,” the spokesman said in the statement.

    He further said “The SIA further said that it has learnt that investigation of the case has so far unearthed a narco- terror module that was being operated by proscribed terrorist organizations across the border in coordination with Central Jail Srinagar based handlers. They said that investigations established so far that the syndicate had succeeded in smuggling around 24 kilograms of Narcotics worth crores of rupees from Pakistan, transported it to different places through human couriers, sold it to dealers at different places, collected the sale proceeds, and used a large portion of the proceeds for prohibited activities for supporting and nurturing terror activities. The narcotics proceeds were used for personal financial enrichment of members of the syndicate besides, huge narcotic proceeds were channelized to support and finance terror activities in the valley.”

    Three members of the syndicate including a lady have so far been arrested, during the investigation of the case; the SIA said adding that further investigation in the case is continuing.
