Days before Karnataka polls, ‘Tipu’ film announced; to show ‘dark side’ of Mysuru sultan

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Days before the Karnataka Assembly polls, where the name of Tipu Sultan keeps getting invoked by his right-wing critics, the makers of ‘Tipu’, the film, have announced that their feature will present a “different side” of the king of Mysuru.

Tipu Sultan, till the BJP questioned the narrative, was known as a freedom fighter, an able administrator and the man who introduced India to rocketry. For some years now, the BJP in Karnataka has made a political issue out of Tipu’s record of forced conversions, which is exactly what the film seeks to highlight.

The BJP’s north-east strategist, adviser to the Manipur Chief Minister and well-known author and TV commentator Rajat Sethi has done the research for the film.

    MS Education Academy

The film’s director, Pawan Sharma, said: “What we are taught in school about Tipu Sultan is gross misinformation. I stood absolutely shaken and disillusioned to know his reality as a bigoted king. Through my film I am daring to show a brutal reality that has been manipulated just for us to take him to be a warrior hero.”

He added: “Tipu Sultan’s Islamic fanaticism was much worse than that of his father Hyder Ali Khan’s. He was a Hitler of that era.”

Sethi added: “While history has been unkind to many heroes, it has mischievously ignored the tyranny of many others. Tipu is one such historical figure whose adulation and admiration is overrated, while his cruelties have been neatly concealed in our textbooks.

“Not only history, but popular culture – movies, theatres, etc. – have also systematically ignored a realistic and balanced portrayal of Tipu. This movie is a humble attempt to initiate a course correction on his narrative.”

Producer Sandeep Singh, who has been behind films such as ‘PM Narendra Modi’, ‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’, ‘Atal’ or ‘Bal Shivaji’, said: “This is the cinema I personally believe in. My films stand for truth… I was brainwashed into believing him to be a braveheart as shown in our history textbooks. But nobody knows his malevolent side. I want to expose his dark side for the future generation.”

Backed by Eros International, Rashmi Sharma Films and Sandeep Singh, ‘Tipu’ will have a multilingual release in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil Telugu and Malayalam.

On Tuesday while addressing a rally in Mysore only Priyanka had said her grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi never broke the people’s trust.

“You all know Indira Gandhi. Her speciality was that she never broke your trust. If you trust me, then it is because of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders, who worked for you,” Priyanka said.

Launching a scathing attack on BJP leaders, Priyanka urged the people of the state not to get influenced by their words but rather look at the “conscience” of the leaders seeking votes. She said, “The Prime Minister came here and said the leaders of the Opposition want to dig his grave.

What kind of talk is this? Every citizen of the country would like the health of the Prime Minister to be good.” “The people ofKarnataka should not vote on the words of any leader but of their conscience,” She added.

Targeting Chief Minister Bommai led-BJP government in the state, Priyanka said, “Last time, people elected JDS and the Congress but BJP stole the government with the power of money.” Urging the people of the state to vote wisely, Priyanka said, “The 40 per cent government ruthlessly looted the public. The Karnataka government looted Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Urging the people of the state to vote wisely, Priyanka said, “The 40 per cent government ruthlessly looted the public. The Karnataka government looted Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Invoking the Amul-Nandini row, Priyanka said, “Nandini Milk earlier used to produce 90 lakh litres of milk and milk products, but today only 70 lakh litres of milk is being produced.” “The government deliberately reduced the production of milk so that Amul milk could be brought to Karnataka,” she alleged.

She said it is time for a change in Karnataka as BJP has not done any constructive work in the state. “They (BJP) have not done any constructive work for Karnataka. So it is time for a change.

In the last three years, everything has been on downhill in the state, be it facilities or infrastructure. People know from their ownexperiences about the governance of the BJP,” she added.

  • Karantaka: BJP raises poll pitch in Old Mysuru with ambition to regain power

Karantaka: BJP raises poll pitch in Old Mysuru with ambition to regain power

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: With Assembly elections round the corner, the BJP is focused on the Old Mysuru region, where significant electoral gains are seen to be crucial for the party to come back to power in Karnataka on its own.

For decades, the BJP has struggled to spread its wings in the Vokkaliga community-dominated Old Mysuru region, with the well entrenched JD(S) and Congress holding sway.

The region comprises Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Kolar, Tumakuru and Hassan districts.
JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) D K Shivakumar belong to this community.

Among the 58 Assembly seats in these districts, JD(S) represents 24, Congress 18 and BJP 15. BJP also has the backing of expelled BSP MLA N Mahesh, who represents Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district.

In the Vokkaliga heartland of Mandya district, the JD(S) has six out of seven MLAs, three of four MLAs in Ramanagara and six of the seven seats in Hassan.

The JD(S) has four out of 11 seats in Mysuru, whereas the Congress has four and BJP three in this district.

The regional party also has three seats in Tumakuru but the party is wary about the Gubbi MLA S R Srinivas who allegedly voted in favour of the BJP candidate during the Rajya Sabha elections in June last year.

The BJP top brass has acknowledged that improving the electoral tally in this region is key to regaining power on its own steam.
The party came to power in Karnataka four times and every time it emerged as the single largest party but fell short of the majority mark.

Twice, the party had to allegedly resort to ‘Operation Lotus’ to woo disgruntled opposition members and form a majority government.

The BJP, however, put up an impressive show in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, winning 25 of the 28 seats.

Shivakumar’s brother D K Suresh won from Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency and JD(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda’s grandson Prajwal Revanna emerged victorious in Hassan.

To BJP’s comfort, the party backed independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh won from Mandya constituency, which had always been a JD(S) citadel.

The actor-turned-politician Sumalatha who defeated Deve Gowda’s grandson and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, extended her ‘full support’ to the BJP on March 11, a day ahead of Prime Minister’s visit to Mandya to launch a slew of projects including the most ambitious one Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.

The inauguration could have been done either in Mysuru or Bengaluru, but the Prime Minister opted for Mandya.

“The voters of Mandya hardly get carried away by emotional issues,” a political analyst said.

The JD(S) suffered a blow when the KR Pet MLA K C Narayana Gowda ditched the party during the “Operation Lotus” in 2019 and was among the MLAs who resigned from the Assembly, joined the BJP and successfully contested the by-election on a BJP ticket and became a minister.

With this, the BJP got its first legislator from the JD(S) citadel, Mandya.

Bengaluru Mysuru Expressway launched by PM Modi 6 days ago now flooded

    [ad_1]

The Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in Karnataka, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated six days ago, was inundated on Friday night after heavy rains in the state’s Ramanagara region.

The expressway road, which cost Rs. 8,480 crore, became flooded near the Ramanagara district of Bengaluru. The water remained stagnant in the highway underbridge, resulting in a series of bumper-to-bumper accidents, slow-moving vehicles, and long periods of traffic jams on the highway.

This is the same underbridge that flooded last year during Karnataka’s record-breaking rains.

PM Modi inaugurated the 118-kilometer-long Bengaluru-Mysuru motorway on March 12, cutting travel time from three hours to about 75 minutes.

The six-lane NH 275 section between Bengaluru and Nidaghatta-Mysuru is expected to serve as a catalyst for socioeconomic development in the region.
