‘Night Considered Among Five Such Nights Where Supplications Not Rejected’

Srinagar, Apr 21 (GNS): As the holy month of Ramadan 1444 A.H comes to an end, arrangements have been put in place at prominent mosques and shrines across Kashmir for devout Muslims to observe Lailat-ul-Jaiza – the night of rewards, preceding Eid eve.
Considered as one of the five nights during which prayers and supplications are not rejected, it has particular significance with the month of Ramadan wherein the gates of heaven are open and the blessings of Allah (God) are abundant. This night is observed with an intention to earn rewards for all the fasting and good deeds of the outgoing month.
It had been the practice of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that he would not sleep in the night preceding the day of Eid-ul-fitr. Therefore, it is desirable to perform Nafl (voluntary) prayers on this night. The Prophet(PBUH) is reported to have said: “Whoever stands up (in worship) in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts will die” – (Ibn Majah).
To benefit from this opportunity, one should perform as much worship in this night as he can, and should pray for all his genuine needs and desires.
The special night is to be spent while recitation of Holy Qur’an (and reflect on its meanings) for there are ten rewards for every letter recited from the holy book; strive to gain forgiveness for past and present sins; Offer Nawafil (Supererogatory) prayers like Tahajjud, Salatul Tasbih, Dhikrullah (Remembrance of Allah) and making much dua (supplications).
The nightlong prayers are supposedly to be held at Dargah Hazratbal Srinagar including at Masjid Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith Gawkadal; Asar-e-Sharif Janab Sahib Soura; Asar-e-Sharif Shehri Kalashpora; Ziarat-e-Makhdoom Sahib (RA), Khanqah-e-Maula.

Similarly the prayers are also expected at Jamia Masjid Bandipora, Jamia Masjid Baramulla, Jamia Masjid Kupwara, Masjid ul Murshideen Khushaal Sahib Bumhama, Jamia Masjid Handwara and other local mosques alike and in south Kashmir at Jamia Masjid Hanfia, Jamia Masjid Ahle Hadith, Bait-ul-Mukarram and Rehat-Ded Masjid in Anantnag town, Ziarat-e-Sharief Khiram Kund, Aishmuqam and Bijbehara while in Kulgam at Markazi Jamia Masjid, Khankah Tral and at Markazi Jamia Masjid Shopian besides at Jamia Masjid Pulwama. Quota withdrawal for Muslims: Karnataka BJP upbeat despite SC rap

Bengaluru: Though opposition parties are celebrating and criticising the BJP-led Karnataka government following a reprimand by the Supreme Court over the withdrawal of four per cent reservation quota for Muslims, the ruling BJP is upbeat about the turn of events.
The Supreme Court has recently observed that the ruling BJP government’s decision to withdraw four per cent reservation under the OBC category for Muslims appears to be “based on fallacious assumptions” and “was on a shaky foundation”.
The reservation quota has been increased for the influential Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities by two per cent each.

The Muslim community has been brought under the 10 per cent reservation provided for the economically weaker sections (EWS).
The ruling BJP government has announced new reservation along with internal reservation for SC/ST groups just before the end of its term. The opposition parties criticised the BJP for the hasty decision on revision of reservation structure.
State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar has openly challenged that it is a matter of days and when his party comes to power after elections, the revision of reservation would be withdrawn.
The opposition made it a major issue and slammed the BJP that the saffron party has insulted the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities by providing the reservation of Muslims to them.
Shivakumar had questioned that had the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities asked to withdraw the reservation of Muslims to increase their quota?

He alleged that it is being done as part of its policy of creating hatred between communities.
Sources in the state BJP unit said that the message has been passed on to the Hindus with the decision being made on withdrawal of reservation for Muslims.
The attacks on the BJP will only polarise the Hindu votes for the party, they added.
Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had earlier said that by shifting the four per cent reservation, there was no harm done to the Muslim community.
“Muslims have been brought under the EWS quota. There should not be any misunderstanding,” he added.
Yediyurappa also said that as it was not possible to provide reservation on the basis of religion, they (Muslims) are brought under the EWS quota.
The Central government is implementing “pro-poor” and “pro-farmer” schemes. If there are any differences they (Muslims) will be convinced, he added.
The Karnataka government has announced new reservation quota after the last cabinet meeting. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had announced a reservation of seven per cent to Lingayats, six per cent to Vokkaligas, six per cent for SC (Left), 5.5 per cent for SC (Right), one per cent for Bhovi, Banjaras and others.
Bommai had defended his government’s decision that “the religious minorities do not have reservation quota in seven states”. The decision has been taken to allot reservation for Muslims under the EWS quota.
He also added that the demand for a hike in the reservation had been pending for the last 30 years but the Congress did not do anything but made false promises. They had thought it would not be possible for the BJP to do it.
“We showed our commitment by getting a report, got the study done, constituted a cabinet sub-committee, and took a bold decision as per law.”

Saudi Arabia calls on Muslims to sight Shawwal moon on Thursday

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court on Friday called on all Muslims living in the kingdom to sight the crescent moon of Shawwal 1444, 2023 on Thursday evening, 29 Ramzan corresponding to April 20.
In an announcement, the Kingdom’s court called on Muslims who sight the moon with the naked eye, or through binoculars to report to the nearest court and register their testimonies, or report to the nearest centre that can contact a court.
If Thursday, April 20, is the last day of Ramzan, Shawwal will fall on Friday, April 21, as the Islamic month is 29 or 30 days long according to the lunar calendar. But, if it completes 30 days, Shawwal will fall on Saturday, April 22.

The sighting of the crescent of Shawwal will also mark the day of Eid Al-Fitr which will begin either fall on Friday or Saturday.
What is Shawwal?
In Islam, Shawwal is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar or lunar calendar consisting of twelve months beginning with Muharram, and ending with Zul-Hijjah. Each month starts with the sighting of the moon. Eid Al Fitr, on the other hand, marks the end of the month-long fast.
The calendar has been observed for more than 1,440 years and is used to date important Islamic events including the start of Ramzan, Eid-Al-Fitr, and the beginning of the Haj.
The month of Shawwal is also of special importance to the Muslims. It is during this month that Allah has bestowed the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. The month is considered to be Allah’s reward for the successful completion of Ramzan.
Fasting for a period of six days in the month of Shawwal is of immense virtue to the Muslims. It also compensates for any short falling that one might have made during the fasting of Ramzan.

In Kashmir’s Largest Seminary, 600 Muslims Perform Itikaf

SRINAGAR: In a display of spiritual devotion, over 600 Muslims from both inside and outside the Kashmir Valley have gathered for 10 days of Itikaf at Darul Uloom Raheemiya, the biggest Islamic seminary in the Bandipora district of Kashmir.
Notably, Itikaf takes place during the last 10 days of Ramadan when worshippers seclude themselves and devote their time to prayer, supplication, and reading the Quran. It starts from the sunset of the 20th day of Ramadan and ends when the Eid moon is sighted. During Itikaf, worshippers live and sleep in mosques.
The gathering of individuals from diverse backgrounds at Darul Uloom Raheemiya highlights the importance of this practice in Islam and the desire of Muslims to connect with Allah and seek spiritual enlightenment.
The participants will spend their days and nights engaged in prayer, reading the Quran, and seeking a deeper understanding of their faith.
The atmosphere at the mosque is serene and filled with the sound of supplications and recitation of the holy book. “We are grateful to Allah for providing us with the opportunity to host it, and we hope that it will be a source of spiritual upliftment for all those who participate in it,” said one of the participants.
He further added that Itikaf is a highly respected and long-standing tradition in the Islamic faith, dating back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
“It is observed by Muslims all over the world, who use the final 10 days of Ramadan to retreat from worldly distractions and focus on prayer and reflection,” he said.
To make the stay of the Muatakifs hassle-free and provide them with a peaceful environment to perform ‘Ibadat’, dozens of youngsters from Bandipora spend their nights in Darul Uloom to serve evening meals, Iftari, and Sehri (pre-dawn meals) to them. “Serving meals to 600 persons in limited hours is a Herculean task, but the locals make it easier as they voluntarily serve the guests,” said an organizer of the event.

A volunteer named Muhammad Umar said: “These people are guests of Bandipora. They worship, and we try to make their stay easy so that they worship in peace. We will get rewarded also.” (KNO)

After ‘Sneha Yatra’ on Easter, Kerala BJP workers to meet Muslims on Eid

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP workers in Kerala will visit the residences of Muslim community members in the state to exchange greetings on the occasion of Eid next week, a party source said on Wednesday.
The party had last Sunday conducted “Sneha Yatra”, reaching out to Christians on the occasion of Easter.
The decision to reach out to Muslims on the occasion of Eid was taken at the BJP’s state core committee meeting held in Kochi on Wednesday, the source said here.

At the meeting, the BJP’s Kerala in-charge Prakash Javadekar congratulated the party’s state unit for reaching out to Christians to greet them on Easter.
He informed the meeting that Narendra Modi strongly believes that Indians are beyond caste, religion, and regional thinking, and directed them to work hard to realise the prime minister’s idea of uniting everyone, the source told PTI.
At the meeting, Javadekar directed the BJP workers to celebrate the “Vishu” with everyone on Saturday and also visit Muslim houses to exchange greetings on Eid next week, the source said.
The source also said that the prime minister’s visit to a Church in New Delhi on the occasion of Easter has helped “demolish the propaganda” by the Congress and the Left parties that the BJP was against the minorities.

BJP’s Hindutva seeks to engineer riots between Hindus & Muslims: Sena (UBT) publication

Mumbai: In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party over the issue of Hindutva, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) on Wednesday said the BJP’s version of the ideology seeks to “engineer” riots between Hindus and Muslims, and then reap political benefits out of them.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led outfit maintained its former ally has found love for the Muslim community ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
In an editorial in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, the Shiv Sena (UBT) said the national saffron party reaches out to the minority community by wearing the “veil of secularism” when elections are around the corner.

The Marathi daily alleged the Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) works as ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams of the BJP.
“The 2024 (Lok Sabha) polls are around the corner which is why the BJP has found love for the Muslim community. Will his love last for a year till the elections or will it stop after that? Their Hindutva is to engineer riots between Hindus and Muslims, and then reap political benefits out of them,” said the editorial.
Hindu-Muslim polarisation is their traditional modus operandi and reaping political benefits out of it is the BJP’s “real face”, the Opposition party alleged.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) publication dubbed the BJP as “hypocrite”.
The Opposition party’s attack on the BJP comes days after Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a key ally of the national party, visited Ayodhya along with his party MLAs and leaders.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a senior BJP leader, had accompanied Shinde during the Sunday visit to the temple town in Uttar Pradesh.

Agra: 4 Hindutva workers arrested for implicating Muslims in ‘cow slaughter’

After a police investigation found that four Muslim youngsters were falsely accused of cow slaughter on Ram Navami, Agra police arrested four Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) workers for filing a fake complaint.
The police said that the ABHM members conspired with the rivals of the four wrongfully accused youngsters, and the entire plan was concocted to settle scores.
Among the arrested ABHM workers is Sanjay Jat, who claims to be the organisation’s spokesperson. He has previously grabbed local headlines for making divisive and communally heated utterances. The four ABHM activists have been charged under the Indian Penal Code section 120B (criminal conspiracy).

“Four ABHM activists and office bearers — Jitendra Kushwaha, Sanjay Jat, Brajesh Bhadoria, and Saurabh Sharma — have been arrested for hatching a conspiracy on the sensitive occasion of Ram Navami,” RK Singh, the additional commissioner of police (ACP), stated on Wednesday.
In addition to the four ABHM members, authorities have arrested three rivals of the four innocent youngsters for being active participants in the plan. “Seven people have been arrested in this case so far. One of them surrendered himself,” ACP Singh stated.
On March 30, Jitendra Kushwaha, an ABHM office bearer, filed an FIR at Agra’s Itimad-ud-Duala police station against four Muslim teenagers, stating that they butchered a cow on Ram Navami. Jitendra said that he and other ABHM members hurried to the scene, but the ‘accused had gone by then’.
CCTV evidence, however, proved that the four youngsters accused of cow slaughter were not present on the scene on the day in question, and the phoney report was submitted out of rivalry. Shanu (alias Illi), Imran Qureshi, four ABHM members, and three others reportedly plotted the plot.
Shanu and Imran both reportedly have a criminal history. They face half-dozen charges in several cases. Previously, Nakeem, one of the four youngsters framed by the accused group, filed a complaint against Shanu and Imran. The two were detained when Nakeem, an Agra Nagar Nigam employee, filed a complaint. This is why the accused couple harboured resentment towards him and the other three and plotted with ABHM personnel to frame them in a bogus case, the police said.

Internet suspended in Jamshedpur after clash between Hindus, Muslims

Jamshedpur: Following a communal clash between Hindus and Muslims after an alleged desecration of a saffron flag, the internet was suspended in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur.
Soon after the violence in the Shastri Nagar area of Kadma police station area, Section 144 was imposed. Around 60 people have been reportedly been detained.
According to reports, a religious flag was tied to the pole of a street light near a temple in the area on the occasion of Ram Navami. Some miscreants hung meat pieces on the same rope which was used for the flag.

The following day, members of the Hindu community held a protest on the matter and demanded police take action against the accused within 24 hours.
Sources said that a meeting of the temple committee was being held at around 6 p.m. on Sunday to discuss the incident, when at least 100 people, most of whom had their faces covered, reached the spot and started pelting stones at the committee members.
Following this, there was heavy stone pelting from both sides and half a dozen small shops and two-wheelers were set on fire.
The police had to fire in the air to pacify the aggressors. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel fired six rounds of tear gas shells at the miscreants to disperse them.
Currently, the situation is tense but under control.

Muslim organisations appeal to CM
Various Muslim organisations in the city have appealed to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren for strict action against the perpetrators, failing which they will come to the streets to protest.

“We are hopeful to CM Soren will bring peace and harmony to the region. We are still recovering from riots that took place in Bihar Sharif during the Ram Navami festival on March 30 and now this. We are disappointed by the police’s lack of timely action and instead encouraging the rioters who vandalised our mosques and torched nearby vehicles,” said one of the representatives of Muslim organisations.
“If the rioters are not punished as per the law, we will not hesitate to protest,” he said.

Hindutva workers slaughter cow to incriminate Muslims in Agra

Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday stated that some members of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha butchered cows in order to instigate communal violence during the Ram Navami parade in Agra.
On the eve of Ram Navami, Agra Police arrested four youngsters suspected of cow killing. During a raid during Ram Navami celebrations in Gautam Nagar in the Etmaduddaula region of Agra, the youngsters were apprehended.
According to the police, Sanjay Jat, the Hindu Mahasabha’s national spokesperson, is the chief conspirator. Many others are also reported to be part of the plot. A man named Jitendra Kushwaha reported the cow slaughter at Etmaduddaula police station.

According to DCP Suraj Rai, several facts came to light during the police inquiry. The police arrested two people identified in the FIR: Imran alias Thakur and Shanu.
Shanu informed police that he arrived at Mehtab Bagh at 8 p.m. on March 29 and encountered Imran, Salman, and Sairo. They then decided to slaughter a cow that was wandering about in the street. That’s when Shanu and Imran went to inform Jitendra Kushwaha.
“(Mahasabha leader) Sanjay Jat is the main conspirator. His followers and friends slaughtered a cow in the Mehtab Bagh area on the night of March 29 and told party member Jitendra Kushwaha to file a case against Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nakim and Mohammad Shanu. The police arrested Imran Qureshi, a fourth suspect, and Shanu the next day. Later, the investigation revealed that the named accused had nothing to do with the crime. An inquiry suggests that Sanjay had an enmity with some people and wanted to implicate them in the case,” The Telegraph quoted R.K. Singh, additional commissioner of police of the Chatta area of Agra, as saying.
“The cow was slaughtered on the eve of Ram Navami to disturb social harmony. We had unconfirmed reports about such an incident but got conclusive evidence when they tried to implicate some innocent people,” another cop said.
Some Hindu Mahasabha workers complained about Jitendra Kushwaha and Sanjay Jat, claiming that they personally had the cow slain in order to disrupt Agra’s communal peace on Ram Navami.
