Muslims were stopped from holding prayers in a Housing Society in Greater Noida

    [ad_1]

Greater Noida: An unreported incident has come to light, where Hindu residents objected to a small group of Muslim occupants of the same residential society, from holding congregational prayers in the evening after the end of the day’s fast, during the recently concluded month of Ramzan in the Greater Noida Township in the NCR.

The Muslims of the residential society were also forced to stop Taraveeh, the special congregational prayer organized solely during the holy month of Ramzan after the fasting hours.

Even though the prayer was being held in the common commercial building within the society after securing prior permission from the concerned authorities, the police were summoned to stop the prayer promulgating Section 144 in the area.

    MS Education Academy

This has happened in a middle-class upscale gated apartment complex in Greater Noida, part of the Delhi NCR.

In most residential complexes, such common spaces are either used – without objections from any quarter – for small family parties or community functions, including religious ceremonies, especially of the Hindus, but in this case, since Muslims were involved in religious activity, their held congregational prayers become a public row.

The incident in Greater Noida points to the onset of a systemic and institutional bias against Muslims for any form of assembly even if it is for devotional purposes in India.

The message behind the protest by local residents of the society was their diktat that Muslims can live in Hindu majority colonies provided they do not ‘look’ like Muslims in public spaces. They must not publicly flaunt their religious identity or do any collective religious activity in public spaces.

The latest incident of protest in Greater Noida was from relatively ‘well-off’ people who were reasonably educated and can speak English comfortably. This group of people does not comprise the traditional political constituency of the Sangh Parivar but in fact, represents intelligentsias and white-collar communities.

The incident in Greater Noida highlights the grand design of invisibilisation of Muslims in the public space. This design is being attempted by middle-class Hindus in cities and towns across several states of India.

This design has a spiraling impact as it is seen that innumerable Muslims do not like to be identified as Muslims in public places. This could be because of their common demeanor, attire, or other characteristics they can be singled out. As a result, they have stopped acting in ways that they can be identified as Muslims. This invisibilisation of Muslims is a new trend in the changing India.

  • JD(S) promises to restore 4 percent reservation for Muslims in election manifesto

JD(S) promises to restore 4 percent reservation for Muslims in election manifesto

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The JD(S) on Thursday released its “Janata Pranalike” (People’s Manifesto) for the May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka promising to restore four percent reservation for Muslims, to “throw out” Amul and to save Nandini brand calling it Kannadiga’s identity, among various assurances.

The party led by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has also assured to bring in a law reserving jobs for Kannadigas in the private sector, and has promised to provide free higher education for economically-weaker students.

Just ahead of the announcement of polls in Karnataka, the State Cabinet led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had decided to scrap the four percent reservation for Muslims under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota and to distribute it equally among the dominant Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities. The JD(S) in its manifesto has expressed its commitment to restore 4 percent reservation for Muslims.

    MS Education Academy

The promise to protect and strengthen Nandini brand in the manifesto, comes following a controversy that had erupted after the Gujarat-based dairy cooperative Amul’s announcement recently, to enter the Karnataka market to supply its milk and curd. A section including opposition Congress and JD(S) had expressed apprehension that Nandini, the brand from the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), could be merged with Amul, and had targeted the ruling BJP and Union Cooperative Minister Amit Shah for it. BJP had rejected the charge.

The manifesto was released by JD(S) legislature party leader H D Kumaraswamy, state president C M Ibrahim, and manifesto committee chief and MLC B M Farooq, among other leaders.

The JD(S), which positions itself as a party of farmers, has announced the “Raita Bandhu” scheme promising to provide Rs 2,000 to agricultural labour families every month. Also, girls who marry youths who are farmers will be given financial assistance of Rs two lakh.

Among the various other assurances given in JD(S) manifesto are Rs 6,000 for pregnant women for six months, loan waiver for ‘Stree Shakti’ self-help groups, pension for Anganwadi workers, Rs 2,000 per month for auto drivers, Rs 2,000 for registered private security guards, and up to Rs 25 lakh for treatment of rare diseases under CM relief fund.

In the irrigation sector, the party has listed out its plans such as: increase funds for the Upper Bhadra Project from existing Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore and also complete the project in the next four years; it also promised to complete the ‘Yettinahole’ project in four years.

Reviewing the National Pension Scheme, re-introduction of free bicycles for school children, electric scooters for girls studying in higher education, housing scheme for 30 lakh homeless, encouraging green energy, are among the other takeaways from the manifesto.

Kumaraswamy has said that the party will launch a separate manifesto for Bengaluru in the coming days.

Aiming to come to power on its own, the JD(S) has set a target of winning 123 out of total 224 Assembly seats.

‘Muslims have to decide..’: Telangana Cong chief on quota row

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday slammed both the BJP-led centre and the BRS-led state government.

His remarks in Adilabad come after union home minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in Chevella vowing to scrap the Muslim reservation in Telangana just like how the BJP-led state government did in the state of Karnataka.

“BRS cheated in the name of increasing Muslim reservation to 12 per cent from 4, BJP says they will remove even the existing one. It is the Congress who delivered on the Muslim reservation. Muslim brothers have to decide which side they want to go to,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

Backward Muslims in Telangana enjoy 4 per cent reservation in education and jobs. This was introduced by the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh about 15 years ago.

The state’s incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS)-led government has promised to increase the Muslim quota to 12 per cent. A resolution to this effect was passed in Telangana Assembly and sent to the Centre five years ago but the proposal has been rejected by the BJP-led government.

Revanth expressed confidence that Congress will form the government in 2024. He promised to fill over 2 lakh government job vacancies immediately once in power.

  • No tickets for Muslims from BJP, so why are they upset with Congress?

No tickets for Muslims from BJP, so why are they upset with Congress?

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Muslims in Karnataka, who comprise a significant group in terms of numbers, are feeling the heat of polarisation politics. The community, which has backed the Congress since Independence, is now tilting towards other emerging political parties to stay relevant.

Under the BJP government, the state passed through the hijab crisis which attracted international attention and divided the community at the school and pre-university levels. Following this, calls to boycott Muslim traders in the premises of Hindu temples and revenge killings have shattered their mindset.

The entire community had to bear the brunt for the action of a few fringe elements who carried out the Mangaluru cooker blast and stabbed Hindu activists over the installation of Veer Savarkar’s flexes in the 75th year of Independence.

    MS Education Academy

The investigations by the Karnataka police and the National Investigation Agency into the spate of incidents of violence cornered them.

The BJP government headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai sent out a further message of alienation by visiting only the residences of Hindu victims who were BJP activists and not even bothering to visit the Muslim victims.

Even as the opposition raised a hue and cry over this, the BJP government did not bother to issue any clarification in this regard. Karnataka Congress president D.K. Shivakumar said that the Muslim community does not deserve this hatred, they have contributed equally to the country.

However, the tone was set for the assembly elections and the Congress had also taken the bait. Hindu candidates were preferred over Muslims while allotting tickets considering the polarisation of votes affecting the chances of victory.

Mohammad Haneef, senior journalist and author, told IANS that Muslims have stopped blindly trusting the Congress party. “The demand was made to the Congress before elections to allot at least 30 tickets to Muslim candidates in 224 seats. The community leaders hoped that at least 22 tickets would be allotted. The Congress is actually fearing the BJP,” he said.

He stated that Muslims blindly voted for Congress candidates belonging to other communities and religion. However, others won’t vote for the Congress candidates who are Muslims. They (Muslims) are looking out for parallel options wherever the Congress came in third place to stop communal forces from coming to power.

Haneef said that this has been discussed by religious leaders and a decision has been taken. In constituencies like Channapatna and Dasarahalli, the JD(S) is a better option for Muslims than the Congress. Not only Muslims, even Jains, Buddhists or any other representatives from the 20 per cent population of minorities were not to be seen in the BJP cabinet.

The Congress has allotted tickets to 14 Muslims out of the 224 assembly seats. Most of them are senior leaders who can win on their own. The party has fielded Yasir Ahamad Khan Pathan against Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Shiggaon constituency.

Karnataka Congress leader Tanveer Sait representing Narasimharaja in Mysuru, U.T. Khader representing Mangaluru (Ullal) in Dakshina Kannada, Zameer Ahmad winning continuously from Chamarajpet in Bengaluru are mass leaders who have transcended the barriers of religion and reached out to all sections. Rizwan Arshad representing Shivajinagar is emerging as another mass leader with a clean image.

The BJP has not allotted tickets to any Muslim.

The JD(S) has made C.M. Ibrahim the state president of the party. It has given tickets to 23 Muslim candidates this time.

Meanwhile, amid all the divisive talk and tension in the state, the news of Tabassum Sheik emerging as the topper in the II PUC (Class 12) board exams in the Humanities stream has gone a long way in spreading positivity across the state.

‘Indian Muslims won’t be scared..’: AIMIM MLA on Atiq’s killing

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA from Maharashtra’s Malegaon, Mufti Mohammad Ismail A Khalique on Saturday remarked that only ‘madmen’ assume that the Muslims of India will be scared by killing a couple of individuals.

Talking to the media he said that the present-day situations in Uttar Pradesh (UP) are well known to everyone and there is no need to define them referring to the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed in Prayagraj.

Mufti said that people are taking the law into their hands. “We are not advocating for any criminal, but punish them within the purview of the law,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

He said that taking decisions that sideline the law could be said that it’s a ‘dictatorship’. He said that the UP government is trying to walk the same path as Hitler.

“This is not right for you and the country. If you think that by killing 2-4 people, you will scare all the Muslims of India, this is the dream of a madman. It will never happen.”

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on April 16 said it was necessary to prevent radicalization, adding that he was not afraid to visit Uttar Pradesh.

“I am ready to die… Radicalization needs to be stopped. I will surely visit Uttar Pradesh, I am not scared. Jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya (why fear death when you are loved),” he added.

    Muslims across India celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Muslims across India as well as different parts of the world on Saturday are celebrating the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr by offering namaz. The festival marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan.

In Delhi, people hugged each other after offering namaz at Delhi’s Jama Masjid on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr.

While talking to ANI, a man who came to offer namaz said, “I extend my wishes to the entire country on the occasion of Eid. This is a very important occasion after the 30 days of fasting. We are happy right now and special arrangements are made for the morning namaz. Delicious food items will be made in our houses today.”

    MS Education Academy

“Eid-Ul-Fitr sends the message of peace, brotherhood, humanity and love. I wish all evils are removed from the country and happiness spreads everywhere. I wish the nation keeps moving forward and keeps prospering,” he added.

“The nation comes first. We are known by our country. We are ‘Hindustani’ first,” he further added.

Another man, G R Siddique from Ghaziabad said, “Today is a very happy day. Namaz is being offered everywhere in India with love.”

“My only message is that Hindus and Muslims in the country maintain the spirit of brotherhood and spread this message all across the globe,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police were fully prepared to ensure the security of those offering namaz.

While talking to ANI, Special Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak said, “This is a time of joy and festivities. Delhi Police has professional excellence in crowd management, especially when it comes to festivals or celebrations. Strategic deployment, communication with people and community policing is done every year. Forces do come from outside, across Delhi.”

“Thousands of Police personnel deployed in the Central District – both in uniform and civil clothes. The local population also cooperates in creating an orderly atmosphere,” he added.

Muslims in Mumbai offered namaz on the occassion of Eid at Mahim Dargah.

Eid Ul-Fitr in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal was celebrated on a grand scale as people gathered at Eidgah in Bhopal to offer greetings.

Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The festival is of great significance due to the moon sighting which has been part of Islamic culture for a long time. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad used to wait for news of sightings of the crescent moon as it narrated the beginning of a new month.

Ending the holy month of Ramzan and starting a new spiritual journey also marks the beginning of a new Islamic year.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the month-long Ramzan fasting and the beginning of Shawwal which is the tenth month per the Islamic calendar. Since the observance of the moon is essential for ending Ramzan month and celebrating Eid, it is celebrated in different parts on different days usually with a one-day difference.

Neighbours Beyond Religion: Muslims Help Perform Last Rites Of Kashmiri Pandit

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Muslim community in the Wussan locality of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal came forward to perform the last rites of an elderly Kashmiri Pandit on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said that Avtar Krishan Koul, 75, son of Madhav Krishan Koul, passed away at her home in Wussan in the wee hours of Friday, which left the entire locality in mourning.

As soon as the news of her death spread, local Muslims made special arrangements to perform his last rites. They also helped the family by ferrying firewood to cremate the deceased.

“It is in our Islam to take care of neighbors irrespective of their religion,” said Ghulam Hassan, a local resident.

Another local mentioned, “Avtar was a remarkable person who always went above and beyond to help those in need. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what time of day or night it was.”

“Avtar was truly dedicated to his profession as a health worker. He saw it as his duty to care for the well-being of others, and he took this responsibility very seriously. He spent countless hours working tirelessly to help people in his community, never once seeking recognition or praise for his efforts,” said a native from his village.

Around a dozen Pandit families in the Wussan locality did not migrate from the Kashmir Valley during the early 1990s and instead decided to stay. Since then, the two communities have lived in harmony and have always shown compassion towards each other.

After the militancy erupted in the valley in the early 1990s, the Pandit community was forced to migrate from Kashmir. However, a small percentage of them stayed back and are currently living in many parts of Kashmir. (KNO)
