Dairy has immense possibilities for growth: President Droupadi Murmu

    [ad_1]

Karnal: Dairy has immense possibilities for growth, President Droupadi Murmu said on Monday.

Chairing the 19th convocation ceremony at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) here, she conferred degrees on 544 students, including gold medals.

While congratulating the students, Murmu said with these degrees, a new chapter has been started in their life and each one of them should continue the streak of learning new things along with making significant contributions to the welfare of the people.

    MS Education Academy

The President urged the students to contribute significantly to the progress of the nation and become entrepreneurs along with getting employment in the dairy industry. There are immense possibilities for growth in this field and they should take advantage of these possibilities.

She said India is the largest producer of milk in the world. India accounts for about 22 percent of the world’s milk production. The dairy sector contributes about 5 percent to the country’s GDP and provides livelihood to 8 crore families directly and indirectly from the dairy industry.

With the participation of more than 70 percent, women are playing a significant role in the dairy sector.

“Women empowerment is playing a significant role in the management of the dairy industry. More than 70 percent of participants in the dairy sector are women. It is a matter of happiness that today more than one-third of the degree awardees are girls and 50 percent of the gold medalists are also girls. The dairy sector holds special importance in making women self-reliant and in bringing changes in their social and economic status,” she said.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya said the National Dairy Research Institute has a rich history of excellence in research and education in dairy science, animal husbandry and allied areas.

He said it is a matter of great pride that Haryana rakned second in terms of milk production in the country. “NDRI Scientists had achieved a new milestone by producing the country’s first Indigenous cow clone calf.”

He said the Indian dairy industry has immense potential to contribute to the economic development of the country and improve the lives of millions. With the right policies, investment and innovation, India can become a global leader in the dairy industry, and the time is right for a second white revolution, said Dattatraya.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the government would provide loans to unemployed youth who are interested in running a dairy industry. This step will certainly prove to be resourceful in ensuring their contribution in milk supply to the country apart from giving them self-employment opportunities, he added.

Prez Murmu attends platinum jubilee celebration of Gauhati HC

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday attended the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Gauhati High Court here. On the occasion, she launched a mobile app ‘Bhoroxa’ made for the safety of women and elderly people.

Women in need of assistance can use this app, which features women-related programmes and a number of helplines throughout the state. The 181 helpline number for women seeking assistance is one of the key features of the app. This helpline will make sure that women in need may contact the authorities and request assistance right away.

Addressing the gathering, Murmu said: “Gauhati High Court holds a unique place in India’s judicial landscape. After its inception in 1948, it had jurisdiction over seven states for more than six decades and still has jurisdiction over four states. It has established a distinct identity for itself by producing a number of legal luminaries. It has also received attention for delivering several landmark decisions.”

    MS Education Academy

She expressed confidence that the Gauhati High Court would continue to serve the people in the same manner in the years to come.

Murmu said: “The northeastern region is possibly the best example of how various communities have lived together historically. As a result, it has rich ethnic and linguistic diversity. In such a region, institutions need to have a great deal of sensitivity and responsibility, as divergent traditions and laws govern the lives of the people of the region. The legislations applicable to different areas may vary, but the entire area is administered by a common High Court.”

She further said that it is heartening to see that the Gauhati High Court continues to uphold the customary laws that have been in practice in some of the states under its jurisdiction.

By respecting the sentiments of the indigenous people, this institution has helped enhance the ethos of peaceful coexistence in this region.

The President said: “Justice is hindered by many factors. Cost of justice is one of them. We need to keep expanding the reach of free legal counselling.”

She said that the language of justice is another hindrance but there is praiseworthy progress in that direction and the higher judiciary has started making verdicts available in more and more regional languages.

Murmu asserted that the increasing role of technology in the administration of justice has been solving many problems that had affected the system for long.

She urged lawyers and students of law to find technological solutions in the legal domain that can provide a helping hand to the poor and the needy.

  • JNU lively reflection of India’s cultural unity: President Murmu

JNU lively reflection of India’s cultural unity: President Murmu

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is a relatively young institution and presents a lively reflection of the cultural unity of India, President Droupadi Murmu said on Friday.

Addressing the sixth convocation of the university, Murmu noted that the number of women research scholars has outnumbered men at the institute this time, terming it as an important indicator of social change.

“JNU is a relatively young university. I look at it as a meaningful and historical significance that JNU began to function in the year of the centenary celebration of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi in 1969,” she said.

“It is situated in the beautiful Aravalli hills. Students from all over India study at the university and live on campus together which helps widens their perspective about the country and the world. The university presents a lively reflection on the cultural unity of India amid the diversity,” the President said.

She said that JNU is known for its progressive practices and rich contributions in terms of social sensitivity, inclusion and women empowerment.

“Students and faculty of JNU have made impressive contributions in various fields such as education and research, politics, civil service, diplomacy, social work, science and technology, media, literature, art and culture,” she noted.

Murmu said that the vision, mission and objectives of JNU were articulated in its founding legislation.

These basic ideals include national integration, social justice, secularism, a democratic way of life, international understanding and a scientific approach to the problems of society, she remarked.

The President urged the university community to remain steadfast in its adherence to these foundational principles.

Asserting that character-building is also one of the main objectives of education, she said, “Invaluable opportunities for character-building should never be lost by going with the flow of the moment. Young students have a natural tendency to curiosity, question and use logic. This tendency should always be encouraged.

“Opposition to unscientific stereotypes by the younger generation should also be encouraged. Acceptance or rejection of ideas should be based on debate and dialogue,” she said.
