Last week, KTR had mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi by offering to show his degrees.

“I have a Masters Degree in Biotechnology from Pune University. Also have a Masters Degree in Business Administration from City University of New York. Can share both certificates publicly. Just Saying,” KTR had tweeted after Gujarat High Court ruled that the Prime Minister’s Office need not furnish the degree and postgraduate degree certificate of Prime Minister Modi.

The court had set aside the order of the Chief Information Commission (CIC) directing the Public Information Officer (PIO) of PMO and PIOs of Gujarat University and Delhi University to furnish details of Modi’s graduate and postgraduate degrees.

Meanwhile, the BRS leader also took a dig at the Prime Minister for his direction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to spare any corrupt person.

“With exceptions of ……,” tweeted KTR, who posted a video clip of Modi’s speech at CBI’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

“Joke of the century,” added the BRS leader.

Oppn MPs in black stage protest over Adani issue, Rahul’s disqualification

    [ad_1]

    New Delhi
: Wearing black clothes, several opposition MPs on Monday took out a march from parliament to Vijay Chowk to protest against the government over the Adani issue and Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha.

The protesters, including Congress MP Sonia Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, gathered near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament complex and raised slogans against the government.

Holding a huge “Satyamev Jayate” banner and placards with “save democracy” written on them, the MPs proceeded towards Vijay Chowk where they staged a sit-in.

“How has Adani’s wealth multiplied so much in the last few years. When you are going to foreign countries how many times have you taken the industrialist with you. The PM has not been able to give answers to questions raised against Adani,” Kharge told reporters at Vijay Chowk.

“We want a JPC on the Adani issue. Why is the government not agreeing to this? Why are you scared of a JPC probe… it means ‘dal mein kuchh kala hai’ (something is wrong),” he said.

The opposition has been seeking a joint parliamentary committee probe into the allegations of corporate fraud and stock price manipulations against the Adani Group.

Kharge also raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as MP after a Surat court convicted and sentenced him in a 2019 criminal defamation case.

“You want to defame Rahul Gandhi that is why you transferred the case to Gujarat even as the comments were made in Kolar in Karnataka. Today is a black day for democracy,” Kharge said.

Kharge said opposition MPs were dressed in black as the prime minister is “finishing” democracy.

Trinamool Congress, which has so far stayed away from opposition protests, joined the sit-in on Monday.

Earlier, MPs of various opposition parties, including Congress, TMC, BRS, and SP, met at the Parliament complex to discuss a strategy to take forward the Adani issue as well as Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification matter in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

Atiq Ahmed’s convoy halts briefly in MP’s Shivpuri on way to Prayagraj

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The convoy of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed being escorted by the Uttar Pradesh police halted briefly in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh on early Monday morning on its way to Prayagraj, a senior official said.

The carcade entered MP from the Rajasthan border, he said.

“The convoy halted briefly in Shivpuri district (more than 300 km from Bhopal) at around 8 AM. It will reach Jhansi, bordering Shivpuri district, in Uttar Pradesh soon,” the official said.

The gangster is being taken to Prayagraj from Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad by the Uttar Pradesh police for a court case.

On Sunday, a team of Uttar Pradesh police reached the Sabarmati jail and left the premises with Ahmed amid tight security at around 6 pm after completing the necessary formalities, officials had said.

Ahmed, a former Samajwadi Party MP, has been lodged in the Sabarmati central jail since June 2019. He was shifted there following a Supreme Court after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault on a real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal while in prison in UP.

He is named in more than 100 criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case, police said.

After stepping out of Sabarmati central jail, Ahmed on Sunday expressed fear that he might be murdered.

“Hatya, hatya (murder, murder),” Ahmed had told reporters outside the prison while being whisked away in a police vehicle by security personnel

BJP Lok Sabha MP Subrat Pathak had said he would not be surprised if mafia Atiq Ahmed’s vehicle overturns like that of gangster Vikas Dubey.

Dubey was gunned down in July 2020 by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police shortly after a police SUV in which he was being brought to Kanpur from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh overturned under mysterious circumstances on a highway. Police claimed that he had tried to flee.

  • Rahul tore ordinance that shielded MLAs, MPs from instant disqualification: Annamalai

Rahul tore ordinance that shielded MLAs, MPs from instant disqualification: Annamalai

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had on September 28, 2013 torn an ordinance that shielded the MLAs and MPs from instant disqualification, Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai said on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter, he said that Rahul Gandhi had on September 28, 2013 torn an ordinance that gave three months time for MLAs and MPs from disqualification.

He was responding to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s statement on Friday that disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as an MP before he could go for an appeal was the death knell of democracy in India.

Stalin also said that the metamorphosis of BJP’s vindictive politics into autocracy was taking place at an alarming pace. He also said, “If one goes by history, it is obvious what is in store for such autocrats.”

Annamala stepped up the attack on Stalin and Rahul said, “Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified after a court verdict for his insult to the country’s OBC and Teli society and for not apologising.”

He said that Rahul Gandhi was a habitual and had in the past apologised for peddling lies in public and added that the verdict had rattled habitual liars, the DMK.

It may be noted that according to the Representation of People Act, 1951, sitting MPs and MLAs have a protection from disqualification if they are convicted of certain offences and they are given a period of three months for a sitting MLA or MP from being disqualified.

The Act also states that if the sitting MLA or MP files an appeal for revision within three months of the date of conviction, the public servant cannot be disqualified until the appeal or revision was not disposed of.

The Supreme Court had struck down this in 2013 in the judgment of Lily Thomas vs Union of India and struck down Section 8(4) of the Representation of People Act.

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had tried to nullify the judgment through the Representation of the People (Second Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2013. Rahul Gandhi had on September 28, 2003 in a press conference torn the copy of the ordinance calling it utter “nonsense”.
