Mosques in Delhi appeal to people to play their role in LG’s campaign to rejuvenate Yamuna

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A message to clean the Yamuna sent out through a campaign led by the Delhi Lt Governor has found resonance with clerics of several mosques, including the Jama Masjid, who appealed to members of the Muslim community to play their role in achieving this goal.

Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena had launched the Yamuna cleanliness drive on February 16 and after inspecting cleaning work at the Qudsiya Ghat, he had said that the target is to rejuvenate the Delhi stretch of the river by June 30.

In view of the LG’s initiative, clerics of several mosques here on Friday appealed to people to clean and rejuvenate the Yamuna, with the Mughal-era Jama Masjid making an announcement over its audio address system.

Mosques at Dwarka and Rohini, the Badwali Masjid at Daryaganj in Old Delhi and a mosque at the site of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, among others, conveyed the meaning and importance of the campaign.

People gather at mosques on Friday for ‘jummah’ prayers.

“After a long period, the government has taken a swift step to clean the Yamuna river. To clean the river, besides the role of the government, support of the people is also needed. Delhi’s LG V K Saxena has got a big stretch of the Yamuna cleaned, and more work is being in that direction,” the Jama Masjid announced.

He has appealed to the people to come forward to achieve this goal so that a good environment and clean water of the Yanuma can be enjoyed, it announced.

At the Badwali Masjid, a cleric told a gathering that the Hindu community considers Yamuna as a holy river, and the Muslim community should also come forward and contribute to its rejuvenation.

The cleric cited the importance of the river and said Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the Red Fort in Delhi and Taj Mahal in Agra near the Yamuna.

Shah Jahah had also commissioned the Jama Masjid in the 17th century, the largest mosque in Delhi.

Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari had recently met the LG in connection with the campaign to clean the Yamuna, officials said.

Officials at the LG’s office had last month said that the efforts to clean the Yamuna will be boosted through wide ranging awareness campaigns, including involving priests to discourage people from throwing waste generated during religious ceremonies into the river.

  • China banned most Uyghurs praying in mosques, homes during Eid

China banned most Uyghurs praying in mosques, homes during Eid

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Chinese authorities banned most Uyghurs praying in mosques — and even in their homes — during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, in many parts of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, residents and police said, the media reported.

People aged 60 and older were allowed to pray in a local mosque under heavy police surveillance during Eid, Radio Free Asia reported.

Since 2017, China has restricted or banned ethnic customs and religious rituals among the mostly Muslim Uyghurs in an effort to stamp out “religious extremism”, RFA reported.

    MS Education Academy

During this year’s Eid, the most important Muslim holiday, authorities in Xinjiang patrolled city streets and searched houses to prevent people from secretly praying inside their homes, sources said, RFA reported.

An administrative staffer from Yarkowruk town in Akesu Prefecture said one mosque there was open for Eid prayers.

“Our police officers went to the mosque to watch the people,” the employee said. “I don’t know if people needed permission to go to the mosque because I did not go there.”

Likewise, only one mosque was open for Eid prayers in Bulung town, Bay county, an officer at the local police station said, though only residents over 60 years old were allowed to pray if they wanted.

The government issued a notice that people younger than 60 could not pray on the Eid holiday, he added, RFA reported.

Only a dozen Uyghur elders in Bulung attended Eid prayers in a mosque as three police officers and several auxiliary police staffers observed and wrote down the Uyghurs’ names, said the officer from the town’s police station.

“The mosque was open yesterday, and we went there to surveil people,” the police officer said, adding that he told residents under 60 not to go to the mosque.

  • Saudi: 20,714 mosques readied for Eid Al-Fitr prayer

Saudi: 20,714 mosques readied for Eid Al-Fitr prayer

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: In preparations for the Eid Al-Fitr prayer, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has announced that 20,714 mosques and outdoor areas across the Kingdom are ready.

The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance has equipped these sites with the necessary safety measures to ensure a safe environment for worshippers.

The ministry has assigned more than 6,000 observers, both men and women, to monitor mosques and places of prayer and follow up on the operations of maintenance and operating companies.

    MS Education Academy

The ministry called on citizens to communicate with them in the event that anyone monitors or notices something that needs reform in the services provided to mosques.

According to the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta, if the Eid falls on a Friday, then it is permissible for those who attend the Eid prayer not to attend the Friday prayer, but rather perform the Dhuhr prayer instead.

However, the ministry advises that it is best to perform Eid prayers and Friday prayers. Those who did not attend the Eid prayer are obliged to perform the Friday prayer.

The ministry issued instructions to the imams to perform the Friday prayer if that coincided with Eid so that those who did not witness the Eid prayer could perform the Friday prayer. But if there is not a sufficient number of worshipers for the Friday prayer, then the Dhuhr prayer is performed.

The ministry confirmed that the call to prayer (Azaan or Adhan) is prescribed only in mosques where Friday prayers are held. The call to prayer is not prescribed for the noon prayer on that day.

Those who attended the Eid prayer must perform the Dhuhr prayer if they did not attend the Friday prayer. The ministry relied on the committee’s fatwa, which states that Friday and Dhuhr prayers are not obligatory to perform the Eid prayer, which is incorrect and wrong.

Opinion of the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman

On April 9, the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Khalili, criticized, on Twitter, the restriction of the imam’s voice inside mosques without the external arenas.

“While some Western capitals open up to the rituals of Islam, the blessed Ramzan prayer is held publicly in public squares. We deeply regret and admire that in some Islamic countries, the institutions responsible for matters of religion issue restrictions on these rituals, so that the voice of the imam is not allowed to go beyond the sanctuary of the mosque,” Sheikh Ahmed Al-Khalili tweeted.

Mufti’s comment came after the issuance of a decision banning external loudspeakers in the mosques of the Sultanate of Oman and imposing a fine on violators.
