BJP MLA defends ‘Visha Kanye’ jibe at Sonia in PM Modi’s presence

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Karnataka’s Vijayapura constituency Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Saturday defended his ‘Visha Kanye’ (poisonous woman) jibe at former Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a huge gathering in Vijayapura, Yatnal, who spoke ahead of PM Modi, also mentioned Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as the “first prime minister of the country”.

“Our Sanatan Dharm, our mother and our Bharat Mata are everything to us. We will not tolerate and can give our lives if anyone dares to talk against Bharat Mata. Along with this, if anyone speaks foul about our world leader Narendra Modi, we Indians would not tolerate that,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the opposition leaders, he said: “If you try to wag your dirty tongue, we will answer in the same pitch. Under the leadership of PM Modi, India has become a ‘Vishwa Guru’. He is a replica of our first Prime Minister Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and treading on the path of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri,” he said.

PM Modi, addressing the gathering, said the Congress is indulging in breaking of society, and that the party should never be pardoned.

“Jagajyothi Basaveshwar fought for equality. But, Congress leaders are indulging in divisive acts. Quoting Rastra Kavi Kuvempu (revered by the Vokkaliga community as their iconic figure, he maintained that Kuvempu described Karnataka as a garden of all sects of people and underlined that the communities in society must have mutual respect for each other.

“On May 10, you will vote to make Karnataka the number one state in the country. On May 10 you will vote to bring a double engine government to power,” PM Modi stated.

“I am a servant of Karnataka and want to do everything for the state. For me, Karnataka is an important state. I need your blessings. The new team has been made ready to play an important role in Amrit Kaal. It is a mixture of new spirit and old roots. The strong team is ready. This team also needs your support,” PM Modi said.

He further said that the coalition government would only be bothered about its survival.

“Political instability has cost the state a lot. Whoever works for the poor, Dalit, backwards and Adivasis, Congress will start hating them. They had used words like ‘desh drohi’, ‘kathputli’ and all the words in the dictionary against B.R. Ambedkar. The party was the same in the old days, and it remains the same even today,” PM Modi added.

Tired, defeated: Modi’s jibe at Congress leader Siddaramaiah in Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Vijayapura: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a swipe at former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah saying that the Congress leader was seeking votes in the name of his retirement from active politics.

He said the people of Karnataka will not choose a “tired and defeated” Congress but a BJP teeming with enthusiasm.

“A Congress leader is seeking votes in the name of their retirement. His biggest poll plank is: ‘This is my last election. Give me a chance. What a pathetic state they have reached!” Modi said in an election rally in the district headquarters town of Vijayapura.

    MS Education Academy

The Prime Minister’s jibe was aimed at 75-year-old Siddaramaiah who recently announced that this will be his last election and he would not contest polls anymore.

“I know that the people of Karnataka will not choose a tired and defeated Congress but the BJP which is bubbling with enthusiasm,” Modi added.

He said there is one slogan of ‘Ee Baariya Nirdhara, Bahumatada BJPiya Sarkara’ (This time the decision, a BJP government with the majority) echoing from every corner of Karnataka.

In an attempt to strike a chord and connect with the dominant Lingayat community of Karnataka who are followers of 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara who was born in Vijayapura, Modi said his party follows the teachings of the poet-saint in toto.

The Prime Minister said the 2023 Assembly election in Karnataka, which will take place on May 10, is about building the state in the next 25 years.

“The BJP has a definite roadmap for the development of Karnataka. Congress has neither the roadmap nor any enthusiasm,” Modi told the crowd.

The ruling BJP is pulling out all stops to return to power in this year’s state election. The party is facing a tough challenge from the opposition Congress.

Voting will take place on May 10 and the counting of votes is on May 13.

‘Digusting’, ‘sick’: Internet angry over PM Modi’s suicide ‘joke’

    [ad_1]

The internet is angry with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he ‘joked’ about suicide, terming it as extremely insensitive. Modi was speaking at a media event in an attempt to lighten the atmosphere, he spoke about a woman who dies by suicide and the following events.

    This is what he said.

(Siasat.com advises its readers to read with caution as some parts can be triggering.)

    MS Education Academy

Modi starts off by saying, “In our childhood, we would hear a joke.”

He talks about a professor and his daughter who dies by suicide, However, before taking the step, the daughter leaves a note for her father.

“She left a chit, ‘I am tired of life and don’t want to live. So I will jump into the Kankaria Lake and die.’,” Modi said.

“In the morning, the professor realised his daughter was missing. He then finds her note on the bed. The father suddenly turns angry. He says, “I am a professor. For so many years I have worked hard, and even now, she has spelt ‘Kankaria’ wrong,” Modi concludes the purported joke followed by laughter from the crowd.

Modi also seems to be in a jovial mood.

The event was hosted by the mainstream TV news channel Republic TV. Its head Arnab Goswami was seen enjoying the joke along with others in the crowd.

Modi’s joke has not gone well with social media users who lashed out at the Prime Minister for being ‘insensitive’. Many Opposition parties, including Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, AAP, and Samajwadi leaders termed it as a statement of ‘disregard for human life’.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said depression is not something to laugh about.

“Depression and suicide, especially among the youth IS NOT a laughing matter. According to NCRB data, 164033 Indians committed suicide in 2021. Of which a huge percentage were below the age of 30. This is a tragedy not a joke. The Prime Minister and those laughing heartily at his joke ought to educate themselves better and create awareness rather than ridicule mental health issues in this insensitive, morbid manner. @TLLLFoundation @narendramodi

Her brother Rahul Gandhi said that millions of families are affected by suicide. “Thousands of families lose their children due to suicide. The Prime Minister should not make fun of them!” he tweeted.

The Congress party stated that according to government statistics, more than 1.64 lakh Indians died by suicide in 2021.

“The Prime Minister is telling a ‘joke’ on ‘suicide’. How can anyone be so insensitive about suicide? Government statistics show- In 2021, more than 1.64 lakh Indians committed suicide. Every day 450 people are forced to commit suicide in our country and this is a ‘joke’ for the Prime Minister. Don’t know how much…”

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Manoj Kumar Jha pointed at the applause that followed. “We have become a sick society,” he tweeted.

“Sickness is visible when the Prime Minister of the country tells a joke on a sensitive issue like ‘suicide’, but even more frightening is the applause and laughter after the joke. We have become a very sick society….. Jai Hind,” he tweeted.

Aam Admi Party (AAP) also tweeted condemning the joke. “Imagine the insensitive disregard for human life by our Prime Minister who needs to crack a joke on suicide!?!? Ironically, when this #AnpadhPM makes a sick & cruel joke on a girl’s suicide, the nation is expected to laugh!”

Apart from political parties, citizens have expressed anger and shock at PM Modi’s purported joke. Here are some of them.

According to the Indian Journal of Psychiatry, India registered the highest number of suicides last year.

“In terms of the rate of suicide, India reported a rate of 12 (per lakh population) and this rate reflects a 6.2% increase during 2021 over 2020.[1] The number reported is the highest ever recorded in the country since inception of reporting of suicides by the NCRB in 1967. This is a genuine cause of concern,” the paper stated adding a significant number were students.

“The highest percentage of suicides consistently occurring in the young, productive population of the country over the years calls for serious action from the Union and the State governments,” the paper stated.

Rising unemployment, financial struggle, mental health issues, domestic violence, government policies, systematic failure, corruption, debts, agrarian crisis, and religious as well as casteist hate crimes were some of the many triggers that force a person to die by or attempt suicide.

  • Aamir Khan all praise for PM Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat

Aamir Khan all praise for PM Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Terming “Mann Ki Baat” an example of a people’s movement, actor Aamir Khan on Wednesday said the monthly radio programme is an important piece of communication through which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has built a trusted relationship with citizens.

Khan was in the national capital to attend the ‘National Conclave on Mann Ki Baat @100’, a daylong programme inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar with Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur as the guest of honour.

“People want to believe in him (Modi) and follow him. They trust him and he has built this relationship with the public. Trust does not come automatically, it has to be earned. And clearly he has earned it,” Khan said at a panel discussion called “Awahan Se Jan Andolan”.

    MS Education Academy

He said Modi is invested in the “Mann Ki Baat” programme at a personal level.

The 100th episode of the prime minister’s monthly radio programme is scheduled to be broadcast on April 30. Modi started the monthly radio programme after becoming prime minister in 2014.

“It’s a very important piece of communication that the leader of the country does with the people, discussing important issues, putting forward thoughts, giving suggestions, leading…

“That is how you lead by communication. You tell your people what you’re looking at, how you’re seeing the future, how you want your support in that. (It’s an) important communication that happens in ‘Mann Ki Baat’,” Khan told PTI on the sidelines of the event.

Asked if Modi only talks about his “mann ki baat” (what he wants to talk about) in the radio programme, the Bollywood star said, “I think it’s his prerogative because he’s doing it… It is his method of hearing what the people have to say connecting with people across the country. I think it’s a very important initiative.”

During the panel discussion, the 58-year-old actor said the programme is “one of the examples of a people’s movement, which has been successfully spearheaded by the prime minister”.

“… he has conducted himself with so much success that he has the support of the people. It is because he has tried to connect with people. I believe this effort is quite significant and important for any society in the world.

“It is very important for a leader to communicate and take people into confidence about what he is planning so that the people also know how they should conduct themselves. They get a vision, they get a direction to follow. And that is something which is a huge concept and is actually the start of a huge people’s movement.”

Being able to communicate and present thoughts in front of the public is a fundamental requirement from any leader, he added.

“If you’re not able to talk with your citizens who have elected you, then how will you understand them and they understand your ‘mann ki baat’ and what you’re thinking,” he said.

The prime minister, Khan said, touched on various topics, be it citizen issues or economics, in the monthly radio programme.

“When we think of an idea for the country, a whole campaign is built around it. Like the polio campaign, it was such a big campaign and it had Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) in it… But here (‘Mann Ki Baat’), the PM just had to speak about an issue.

“There was no need for a campaign around it. He has such a big reach and plus, he is talking about it himself. He doesn’t need anyone to do it for him,” he added.

He referred to his talk show “Satyamev Jayate”, which ran for three seasons from 2012 to 2014.

“I had the same experience when I was doing ‘Satyamev Jayate’ because it was a similar kind of a programme. We were talking about issues and I was meeting people from all over the country and interacting with them. So, that was a time that I experienced it a little more which is similar to this more than my filmmaking,” he said.

In his message to listeners of “Mann Ki Baat”, Khan said he just wanted to send his love to them.

“We are all on a unique journey and we should all be connected like this,” he said.

PNB scam: PMLA court grants bail to Nirav Modi’s close aide

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: A special PMLA court here on Tuesday granted bail to Subash Parab, a close aide of fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case.

Parab was a deputy general manager (finance) at Firestar Diamond, a firm owned by Modi, and was deported to India from Cairo in Egypt in April 2022.

Special PMLA judge S M Menjonge allowed the Parab’s bail plea, citing that it appeared from the bail application that the accused was not beneficiary of the proceeds of crime.

    MS Education Academy

Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are accused of duping PNB, a public sector bank, of Rs 13,000 crore using letters of undertaking (LoUs) and foreign letters of credit (FLCs) by bribing its officials at the Brady House branch in Mumbai.

Parab is understood to be a key witness to the letters of undertaking submitted to the bank to siphon off more than Rs 7,000 crore.

India had issued an Interpol Red Notice against Parab to track him down and bring him back.

In February, he was granted bail in a related case being probed by the CBI.

A LoU is a guarantee given by a bank to Indian banks having branches abroad for the grant of short-term credit to an applicant. In case of default, the bank issuing the LoU has to pay the liability.

The companies of Modi and Choksi took loans from banks abroad using the PNB’s LoUs, but did not repay them, thus transferring the liability to the bank.
