It is clear PM Modi protecting Adani: Rahul Gandhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged it was clear that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was protecting Gautam Adani as he did not order an inquiry into the allegations leveled against the industrialist by a US-based research firm.

He said the prime minister did not answer the questions posed to him.

“I am not satisfied, but it reveals the truth. There was no talk of an inquiry. If he is not a friend, then he should have agreed to an inquiry. There was no probe into shell companies in defense sector and benami money is changing hands, but the prime minister did not say anything about that.

“It is clear that the prime minister is protecting him,” Gandhi told reporters after the prime minister’s reply to the motion of thanks in the President’s address.

Gandhi said this is an issue of national security and concerns the country’s infrastructure and the prime minister should have said that there will be a probe into the allegations.

“This is a very big scam. He did not even say that. He (PM) is surely trying to protect him (Adani) and I understand this and there are reasons for it,” he said.

Asked if he got the answers to his questions, the former Congress chief said, “I did not get any reply from the prime minister to my questions.”

“The prime minister was shell-shocked. He was in shock and there was no answer. I have not asked any complicated questions. I only asked how many times he (Adani) has gone with you. How many times did he meet you? I posed simple questions but got no answers,” he said.

“I am not satisfied, but it reveals the truth,” he said when asked if he was satisfied with the prime minister’s reply.

  • People’s trust is my shield, abuses will have no impact: PM Modi

People’s trust is my shield, abuses will have no impact: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In a stinging attack on the Opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the trust reposed by crores of people was his protective shield which cannot be breached by abuse and allegations from his detractors.

Replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in Lok Sabha, Modi said the world was looking at India with hope amid instability in some parts of the globe due to the once-in-a-century pandemic and conflicts.

“But some people who are neck deep in frustration refuse to accept India’s growth story. They cannot see the achievements of 140 crore Indians,” Modi said, targeting the Opposition.

The prime minister said people know Modi has come to their help in times of crisis. “How will they agree with your abuses and allegations,” he told the Opposition.

“People trust in Modi not due to newspaper headlines or TV visuals but due to my years of dedication in the service of the people,” Modi said.

BJP members broke into chants of Modi, Modi’ as the prime minister listed out the public welfare initiatives of his government. Opposition members raised the slogan of Adani, Adani’ to counter the BJP members.

Opposition MPs including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had targeted the government while raising the Adani-Hindenburg issue during the debate.

The prime minister said the Opposition had wasted the past nine years in levelling baseless allegations instead of indulging in constructive criticism.

“When you lose elections, blame the EVMs, criticise the Election Commission, if the Supreme Court does not give a favourable verdict, criticise the apex court.

“If corruption is being probed, abuse the investigative agencies. If the Army displays valour, abuse the armed forces, level allegations against them. When there is talk of economic progress, criticise the RBI,” Modi said.

“In the past nine years, compulsive criticism has replaced constructive criticism,” the prime minister said.

He described the 10 years of UPA rule as India’s “lost decade”.

“The decade before 2014 will always be remembered as ‘The Lost Decade’, but the decade of 2030 is India’s decade,” Modi said.

“No one can forget the attacks of 2008. The lack of courage in acting against terrorism led to a bloodbath and the loss of lives of our innocent citizens. It’s synonymous with the UPA’s misrule,” he said.

The prime minister said India was emerging as a manufacturing hub and the world now sees its prosperity in the country’s growth.

He said President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament was an inspiration for everyone.

Raising slogans, members of the BRS, Left parties and some members of the Congress walked out of Lok Sabha in protest as the prime minister was speaking.

PM Modi without taking names, takes a jibe at Rahul Gandhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took a veiled dig at Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi in his reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in Lok Sabha and said some speeches made on Tuesday were lauded by the their ecosystem and “maybe they slept well and couldn’t wake up (on time)”.

Rahul Gandhi, who participated in the debate on Tuesday and largely targeted the government on Adani issue in his speech, was not present in the House when Prime Minister made his initial remarks. He later reached Lok Sabha.

“I was watching yesterday. After the speeches of a few people, some people were happily saying, “Ye hui na baat.” Maybe they slept well & couldn’t wake up (on time). For them it has been said, “Ye keh keh ke hum dil ko behla rahe hain,wo ab chal chuke hain, wo ab aa rahe hain”,” PM Modi said.

“When President’s Address was going on, some people avoided it. A tall leader even insulted the President. They displayed hatred against ST. When such things were said on TV, the sense of hatred deep within came out. Attempt was made to save oneself after writing a letter later” he added.

PM Modi said India became the fifth-largest economy amid difficult times.

“Several countries are suffering from instability due to war. Several others are facing inflation, unemployment, and lack of food security including our neighbours. Amid difficult times, India became the fifth-largest economy,” he said.

Prime Minister said that President Droupadi Murmu’s presence as Head of the Republic is historic as well as inspiring for the daughters and sisters of the country.

“I extend my thanks to the President’s Address. I got the opportunity earlier also. But this time, along with thanks, I also want to greet her. In her visionary address, the President guided us and crores of Indians. Her presence as the Head of the Republic is historic as well as inspiring for the daughters and sisters of the country,” PM Modi said.

“The President has enhanced the pride of the tribal community. Today, after several years of independence, there is a sense of pride in the tribal community and an increase in their self-confidence. This nation and House are grateful to her for this,” he added.

Congress asks PM Modi to break silence on Adani issue

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Monday questioned the “deafening” silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Adani issue and made a pun on his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ asking him whether it was an instance of ‘Mann ki banking’ to benefit his cronies.

“His silence is not just eloquent but also deafening. Break the silence, Mr. PM,” said AICC general secretary of communications Jairam Ramesh while posing him a set of three questions.

The Congress said it will pose three questions to the Prime Minister every day starting Sunday.

“Dear PM Modi, As promised yesterday, here is today’s set of three questions for you, HAHK (Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun)-2? So to speak,” he said.

The Congress leader alleged that the government has a track record of “bailing out” failing disinvestments such as IDBI Bank, New India Assurance, and General Insurance Corporation using LIC funds.

“It’s one thing to bail out public sector companies and quite another to use the savings of 30 crore loyal policy-holders to enrich your friends. How did LIC make such a heavy allocation to the risky Adani Group that even private fund managers had steered clear of? Is it not the duty of the government to ensure that vital public sector financial institutions are more conservative in their investments than their private sector counterparts,” he asked.

PM Modi to inaugurate India Energy Week in Bangalore

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit poll-bound Karnataka for the third time in a period of 36 days on Monday. PM Modi on his one-day visit will inaugurate the India Energy Week organised in Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) at Bengaluru.

On his first visit in February, he will also inaugurate HAL Helicopter Factory in Gubbi Taluk of Tumakuru. This manufacturing facility spread across 615 acres of land is dubbed as India’s largest manufacturing facility of Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) and Indian Multirole Helicopters (IMRH). He will also address a gathering after the incident. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for the unit in 2016.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Tumakuru Industrial Township, an Industrial Node on Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. The project is slated to generate employment for over 90,000 people. It is spread over 1,722 acres and is being implemented at a cost of Rs 1,701 crore.

Further, PM Modi will later inaugurate Multi-Village Water Supply Schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission in Tiptur taluk and Chikkanayakanahalli taluk in Tumakuru, which will provide treated water for 1.86 lakh people from the Hemavathi River at a cost of Rs 435 crore and Rs 115 crore respectively.

Karnataka is heading for elections in two months. His visit to inaugurate Shivamogga airport on February 27 is confirmed already. PM Modi will also come down to Bengaluru to inaugurate the Aero India Show, held between Feb 13 and 17.

The BJP insiders say that PM Modi is highlighting the development and contributions of the double engine government at the state and Center rather than criticizing the opposition parties.

The Opposition parties are targeting the BJP and former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy has stirred a controversy by stating that the BJP is conspiring to make a Brahmin candidate the CM in Karnataka. It is to be seen whether PM Modi will make any comments on opposition parties’ attacks.

Stalin asks PM Modi to relax paddy procurement norms

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to relax paddy procurement norms.

Stalin, in a letter to Modi, noted that nearly one lakh hectare of paddy fields in the Cauvery delta region is submerged in water due to unseasonal rains.

Unseasonal and sudden rains in the districts of Nagapattinam, Myladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai have inundated about to be harvested paddy (Samba) crops, he said, adding that hence, the moisture content in the harvested paddy will be much higher than the stipulated volume.

He said that the relaxation of moisture norms is a mitigation measure and cited the Central government allowing relaxation in norms on paddy procurement during the last Kuruvai season.

A similar relaxation is required for the paddy farmers now, he said.

Stalin said: “I request you to issue necessary instructions to allow the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to procure paddy from farmers with moisture content up to 22 percent and for relaxation in the minimum limit of immature, shrunken and shriveled up to five percent as against the normal three percent and damaged, discoloured and sprouted up to seven percent as against the normal five percent with necessary value cut for this Samba crop.”

Several organisations of paddy farmers have asked the Chief Minister for relaxation in procurement norms.

PMK state President Anbumani Ramadoss has also urged for the total exemption of paddy crops from moisture conditions.

  • Modi, his govt cannot hide from questions saying ‘Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun’: Cong

Modi, his govt cannot hide from questions saying ‘Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun’: Cong

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday stepped up its attack on the Centre over allegations against the Adani group, alleging that the Modi government’s “loud silence” over the issue “smacks of collusion”.

Adani group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation at the Gautam Adani-led group.

In a statement, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said that starting Sunday the Congress will pose three questions a day to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.

He said that amid the allegations against the Adani Group, the Modi government has maintained a “loud silence which smacks of collusion”.

Ramesh said that in a response to the Panama Papers expose on April 4, 2016, the Ministry of Finance had announced that Modi had personally directed a multi-agency investigative group to monitor financial flows to and from offshore tax havens.

“Subsequently, at the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China on 5 September 2016, you (Modi) stated: ‘We need to act to eliminate safe havens for economic offenders, track down and unconditionally extradite money launderers and break down the web of complex international regulations and excessive banking secrecy that hide the corrupt and their deeds’. This leads to some questions that you and your government cannot hide from saying ‘HAHK (Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun)’,”

Posing questions, Ramesh said Vinod Adani, the brother of Gautam Adani, was named in the Panama Papers and the Pandora Papers as someone who operates offshore entities in the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands.

“He is alleged to have engaged in ‘brazen stock manipulation’ and ‘accounting fraud’ via ‘a vast labyrinth of offshore shell entities. You have spoken often about your sincerity and ‘niyat’ (intention) in fighting corruption and even subjected the nation to the heavy costs of demonetization,” Ramesh said.

“What does the fact that a business entity you are well acquainted with faces serious allegations tell us about the quality and sincerity of your investigations? the Congress general secretary said.

Ramesh alleged that over the years, PM Modi “misused” agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence to “intimidate” his political opponents and to “punish” business houses that do not fall in line with his “cronies’ financial interests”.

What action has been taken, if ever, to investigate the serious allegations made over the years against the Adani Group, he asked?

Ramesh also asked if there was any hope of a fair and impartial investigation in the matter under the prime minister.

“How is it possible that one of India’s largest business groups, one that has been allowed to build monopolies in airports and seaports, could have escaped serious scrutiny for so long despite persistent allegations?” Ramesh said.

Other business groups have been harassed and raided for much less, he alleged.

“Was the Adani Group essential to a dispensation that has profited from ‘anti-corruption’ rhetoric all of these years,” Ramesh asked?

Tagging his statement, the Congress leader tweeted, “The eloquent silence of the PM on the Adani MahaMegaScam has forced us to start a series, HAHK-Hum Adanike Hain Kaun. We will be posing 3 questions to the PM daily beginning today.” He asked the PM to break his “silence” over the issue.

The Congress also started a Twitter poll on its official Twitter handle, asking people whether the PM will get the allegations of fraud against “his friend Adani” investigated.

The Adani group has dismissed the charges as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.

The 10 listed Adani group firms have faced a combined erosion of over Rs 8.5 lakh crore in just six trading sessions. Adani Enterprises also had to withdraw a Rs 20,000 crore share sale.

In her statement on the issue, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said on Saturday that India’s economic image is not affected due to Adani Group’s recent decision to pull out Rs 20,000 crore FPO amid allegations of financial wrongdoings.

The finance minister said there has been an accretion of USD 8 billion to the forex reserves in the last two days alone.

“…our macroeconomic fundamentals or our economy’s image, none of which has been affected. Yes, FPOs (follow-on public offers) come in, and FIIs (foreign institutional investors) get out,” Sitharaman told reporters here.

The minister said there are “fluctuations” in every market but the accretion over the last few days establishes the fact that the perception of both India and its inherent strengths is intact.

  • Modi to dedicate HAL’s helicopter factory in Karnataka to nation on Feb 6

Modi to dedicate HAL’s helicopter factory in Karnataka to nation on Feb 6

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation a helicopter factory of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at Tumakuru in Karnataka on February 6.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and senior officials of the Ministry of Defence will also be present on the occasion.

The Greenfield Helicopter Factory, spread across 615 acres of land, is planned with a vision of becoming a one-stop solution for all helicopter requirements of the country.

It is India’s largest helicopter manufacturing facility and will initially produce Light Utility Helicopters (LUHs).

The LUH is an indigenously designed and developed 3-tonne class, single-engine multipurpose utility helicopter with unique features of high maneuverability.

Initially, this factory will produce around 30 helicopters per year and can be enhanced to 60 and then 90 per year in a phased manner.

The first LUH has been flight tested and is ready for unveiling.

The factory will be augmented to produce other helicopters such as Light Combat Helicopters (LCHs) and Indian Multirole Helicopters (IMRHs).

It will also be used for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul of LCH, LUH, Civil Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and IMRH in the future. Potential exports of civil LUH will also be catered to from this factory.

The HAL plans to produce more than 1,000 helicopters in the range of 3-15 tonnes, with a total business of over Rs 4 lakh crore over a period of 20 years.

Besides generating direct and indirect employment, the Tumakuru facility will boost the development of surrounding areas through its CSR activities with large-scale community-centric programmes on which the company will spend substantial amounts. All this will result in improvement in the people’s lives in the region.

The proximity of the factory, with the existing HAL facilities in Bengaluru, will boost the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem in the region and support skill and infrastructure development such as schools, colleges and residential areas.

Medical and health care would also reach the community residing in the various nearby Panchayats.

With the establishment of facilities like heli-runway, flight hangar, final assembly hangar, structure assembly hangar, air traffic control and various supporting service facilities, the factory is fully operational.

This factory is being equipped with state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 standard tools and techniques for its operations.

The foundation stone of the facility was laid by the Prime Minister in 2016.

This factory will enable India to meet its entire requirement of helicopters without imports and give a much needed fillip to the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in helicopter design, development, and manufacture, an official said.
