  • TSBC chairperson writes to PM Modi expressing grief over BC welfare

TSBC chairperson writes to PM Modi expressing grief over BC welfare

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The chairman of Telangana Backward Classes Commission (TSBC) Dr Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his disappointment and concerns regarding the BC community over Modi’s eight-year tenure.

In his letter, Rao states that when Modi was elected as the Prime Minister back in 2014, the entire backward class looked upon Modi, who also belongs to the community, as a revolutionary change.

“But I regret to bring to your notice that no concerted action is initiated by you in your two-term tenure for the betterment of the BC communities. There has always been a lukewarm response by your government in matters concerning the welfare of the community,” the letter said.

Rao reminded Modi that his government has time and again ignored or evaded taking up caste-based socio-economic surveys of the BC community for explicit reasons.

“With the non-availability of the ‘Socio-Economic Caste Census -2011’, data prepared by the Telangana government could not effectively cover the welfare schemes meant for the BC communities. This is also acting as a serious impediment in arriving at the actual percentage of reservations for the backward communities in local bodies. With the availability of modern tools, the errors on the data can be rectified and can effectively be used for the betterment of the communities, such as in education, employment and political arena,” the letter stated.

Rao spoke about the anomalies in the Socio-Economic Caste Census -2011 where Rs 4,894 crore has been spent already. “No concrete percentage of the BC community was arrived at and the actual percentage of BC population in the country is still not officially revealed,” Rao stated in his letter to PM Modi.

Furthermore, the letter stated, “It is also noticed that no Terms of Reference (TOR) was given to the Committee appointed under the chairmanship of NITI Aayog with regards to the surnames and gotras. The other members of the committee have still not been appointed to date.”

Terming the Centre’s attitude towards the BC community as apathetic, Rao’s letter states, “The government is also exhibited in evading the clarification sought by the Parliamentary Committee on Rural Development with regards to the errors noticed in the 1,34,77,330 people surveyed. The government could have rectified these mistakes using modern tools.”

Rao pointed out that the Centre in its affidavit had maintained that the caste census details of 2021 cannot be used by officials due to a number of errors. “However, according to the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, 98.87% of the caste census taken up is corrected. This contradicts Centre’s earlier statements,” Rao said.

Rao mentions a Supreme Court’s 2010 verdict that said a triple test has to be conducted by state governments in arriving at the percentage of the backward class reservations in local bodies, requiring the Centre to take up the socio-economic, educational employment, and political survey of the community to arrive at its actual representation vis-a-vis the general population.

“With the apathetic attitude of the government to the demands of such surveys from the states, it will be a herculean task for the state governments to ensure adequate representation of the backward communities,” the letter stated.

The letter concludes by stating that the lack of BC community compatibility will not project the government in a good light.

“I, therefore, fervently appeal to you to forthwith intervene in the matter and provide us data pertaining to Telangana to enable us to take up various welfare measures, to arrive at the accurate BC population and also to ensure their proportionate share of reservations in the field of education, employment ad political arena,” Rao’s letter concluded.

Togadia expects Modi, Shah to formulate population control law, UCC before 2024 polls

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Former Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia on Sunday described India’s rising population as a “ticking time bomb” and stressed the need to formulate a law to prevent its explosion and the resulting adverse effects.

He also expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce a law for population control and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections.

Togadia, president of Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad, was talking to reporters in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur ahead of addressing a public meeting in Basna area of state’s Mahasamund district

When asked about the demand to bring a population control law, Togadia said, “The rising population and population imbalance are a time bomb and when it explodes it will lead to civil wars in cities and villages. Therefore, in order to prevent such a situation there is a need to formulate a population control law.”

“I believe that Narendrabhai Modi and Amitbhai will go to the 2024 election after formulating laws regarding population control, UCC and construction of temples in Kashi and Mathura. These moves will not only protect Hindus, but also their (Bharatiya Janata Party’s) votes,” he added.

Replying to another question, he said Bharat is already a Hindu rashtra and we wanted to establish it as a Hindu political state. India is a Hindu majority country and we will not allow Hindus to feel insecure anywhere in India.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) with UAE has given a boost to Indian entrepreneurs.

Modi said in a tweet that it has also deepened India’s ties with UAE.

He was responding to a tweet by commerce minister Piyush Goyal, who had said on Saturday that February 18 marked one year of signing of India-UAE CEPA.

Goyal along with UAE’s minister of state for foreign trade Thani Al Zeyoudi had co-authored an article on completion of one year of CEPA.

Goyal even tagged the article with his tweet.

“One year since we signed the #IndiaUAECEPA. In this article jointly written with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade @ThaniAlZeyoudi, we highlight how the deal is a turning point in our economic ties & a model for cross-border collaboration,” Goyal had tweeted on Saturday.

Goyal along with UAE’s minister wrote in the article that “by reducing tariff on more than 80 per cent of product lines, enhancing market access to service exports and providing platform for SMEs to collaborate and scale, both the countries have envisioned a new era of opportunity in an uncertain world”.

  • UK MP Blackman slams BBC documentary on PM Modi as ‘propaganda’

UK MP Blackman slams BBC documentary on PM Modi as ‘propaganda’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Terming the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘propaganda video’ and a ‘disgraceful piece of shoddy journalism,’ British MP Bob Blackman has said that it should never have been released and that it didn’t look at the ‘all-important fact’ that India’s Supreme Court investigated the claims against Narendra Modi in connection with the 2002 riots and found that there is not a shred of evidence to support them.

In an interview with ANI, Blackman also talked about the issue “around the review of the British Broadcasting Coropration’s (BBC) tax affairs” in the context of Income Tax department’s survey at its offices in India and said, “this is nothing new and has been going on for quite sometime”.

He said there have been discussions between the Income tax authorities in India and the BBC and the broadcaster has to follow the relevant rules and regulations.

Blackman is a member of ruling Conservative and MP for Harrow East, said that as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002, Narendra Modi had done his best to try and appeal for calm during the riots.

Blackman accused the BBC documentary of casting aspersions and said it is extremely regrettable because it would seem as if there was some sort of agenda of BBC to disrupt UK-India relations. “I think that’s a great shame.”

Noting that the British government regards India as a strong friend, a strong ally and the two countries were negotiating a trade deal, he said anything that disrupts the process is extremely regrettable.

The British MP said the Indian government has done a remarkable job under PM Modi of transforming the country’s economy and it is on track to become the leading economy in the world.

Blackman said the BBC video on PM Modi was “full of innuendos” and it was produced by an external organisation and overseen by the British broadcaster.

“The so-called documentary which is more of a propaganda video, if you like in a two-part series… (was) disgraceful piece of shoddy journalism with an attack on Narendra Modi, both in his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat and then his time as Prime Minister….(was) completely full of innuendos,” the British MP said.

“It should never have been broadcast by the BBC because the BBC has a worldwide reputation. People think, oh my goodness, this must be true. But, it was produced by an external organisation, overseen by the BBC….it (documentary) is far from the truth… it actually did not look in detail into the causes for the Gujarat riots 20 years ago and it certainly didn’t look at the all important fact that the Supreme Court thoroughly investigated all the claims against Narendra Modi and found that not a shred of evidence to support them,” he added.

Bob Blackman has been the Conservative Member of Parliament for Harrow East since 2010. He was Greater London Assembly member for Brent and Harrow for four years, after ousting the Labour Leader on the GLA in June 2004.

According to his website, Blackman was also a Councillor for the Preston Ward in Brent for 24 years, serving as leader of the Brent Conservatives from 1990 to 2010, before stepping down in order to stand as the Conservative candidate for Harrow East.

The UK MP said that as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002, Narendra Modi had looked to additional police resources, not only within Gujarat but beyond and eventually had called in the army to help quell the riots.

“They showed a film of him making appeals for calm and encouraging people to not to riot…. (they) put a whole series of different montages together with different people… I don’t know people involved but it was clear they had an axe to grind against Narendra Modi,” Blackman said.

The central government had last month issued directions for blocking YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the controversial BBC documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’.

The Ministry of External Affairs had termed it a “propaganda piece”, saying it reflected a “colonial mindset”.

Referring to the tax survey, Blackman said BBC has to ensure “they are caught with the rules and regulations”.

“Obviously, this is a survey where the income tax authorities have looked to gather the evidence to establish if the BBC is doing anything wrong, I would say quite openly, this is the BBC’s job and operating within India, is to make sure they are caught with the rules and regulations, and I am sure it will be cleared up very quickly, but you know that’s upto the tax authorities so… (for) BBC to make sure they are caught up with the rules that operate here,” he said.

The British ruling party MP said that some sections were seeing the action as an attack on the media which according to the MP was not an accurate assessment.

“It’s a review, it is a survey….the moment there haven’t been suggestions of charges or anything like that…let the authorities operate, let the BBC act as they have done in an open and transparent way, providing access to all the records and all the information and let the tax authorities come to their conclusion. I trust that we clear up very quickly because it is for the benefit of the tax authorities and for the BBC.”
Income Tax-related surveys at BBC’s India offices started on Tuesday.

Sources had said that the Income Tax department conducted a survey at BBC’s offices in Delhi and Mumbai in view of its “deliberate non-compliance” with the “Transfer Pricing Rules and its vast diversion of profits.” The survey concluded on Thursday.

Asked if the BBC documentary could in some way be reflective of the view of the British government, Blackman dismissed any such suggestion and said the BBC is not an arm of the British government.

He said the British government regards India as a strong friend and a strong ally.

“Let’s be very clear, the BBC is not an arm of the British government. In fact, the BBC is frequently critical of the British government and, actually to be fair, critical of all the British government that has been that’s their job, their job is to ask questions, to look for evidence. But the key here is you can ask questions but when there is evidence to the contrary and it’s quite clearly not the case, then you shouldn’t be casting aspersions. I think that is the difference here, which I think it is extremely regrettable because it would seem as if there was some sort of agenda of the BBC to disrupt UK-India relations,” said Bob Blackman to ANI.

Blackman said he had asked the British government of its policy and was told that BBC is an independent organisation they must do whatever they choose to do but it is not the policy of the British government.

“The British government regards India as a strong friend and a strong ally. We signed an agreement a year ago, now an agreement on security, defence and other matters and that demonstrates the goodwill between our countries. We are two countries with a shared past and tremendous future ahead of us and we are at the moment negotiating what could be an incredible free trade deal which would benefit India and the United Kingdom. So, anything that disrupts that is extremely regrettable, particularly when it’s with our foundation,” added Blackman.

He expressed hope that the documentary episode will not impact relations between India and UK.

Answering a query, he said one thing he agreed with in “the propaganda video” is the final comments which said that Narendra Modi and the BJP government will probably be re-elected next time and the time after.

“So they deserve it because the Indian government have done a remarkable job under the Narendra Modi of transforming the economy in India, leading India to become the fifth biggest economy now in the world, on track to become the leading economy in the world, by the way it is going and the most populous country in the world. We also have to celebrate that India is the biggest democracy in the world where the government can be replaced if that’s what the people decide,” said Blackman.

“From that perspective, it’s very important that we build the friendship, we build the relationship between the two countries and we do so because obviously India has the G20 role this year.”

Blackman, who has been an MP since May 2010, said, India will be welcoming the leaders of the world this year and “it’s important that we cement our good relations”.

“If we don’t, that would be detrimental to India and also to the United Kingdom,” he said

  • PM Modi will hold a public meeting in Telangana soon: Bandi Sanjay

PM Modi will hold a public meeting in Telangana soon: Bandi Sanjay

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Bandi Sanjay said that the party will soon hold a massive public meeting in Telangana, to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top leaders of the party.

The rally will be the culmination of the ongoing 11,000 street corner meetings of the party functionaries being held across the state.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar was speaking to reporters at Roopkhanpet village of Parigi assembly constituency in Vikarabad district, where he attended a street-corner meeting.

Sanjay said there has been huge response to the street corner meetings aimed at exposing the failures of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government.

“In an unprecedented manner, we have been holding 11,000 street corner meetings. Subsequently, public rallies would be held in every assembly constituency headquarters, followed by similar rallies in the 10 erstwhile district headquarters,” he said.

As a culmination of all these meetings and rallies, a massive state-level public meeting would be held, venue of which would be decided later. “We are planning to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders for the public meeting,” the BJP president said.

Sanjay accused the BRS government of throwing to winds all the promises made for Parigi and other surrounding areas, including providing irrigation to one lakh acres of parched lands through Palamur-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme.

“Except the funds released by the Narendra Modi government, the gram panchayats have not been getting a single rupee from the state government. The sarpanches are forced to commit suicide for non-clearance of pending bills by the sate government,” he alleged.

Earlier, addressing the street corner meeting, Sanjay said KCR, who had welcomed his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Singh Mann and taken him around Konda Pochamma Sagar, had forgotten the fact that many of the farmers who had given away their lands for the project were yet to get rehabilitation and resettlement package.

“The chief minister was not concerned that farmers immolated themselves for not getting compensation for the land,” he said.

Stating that the Congress had lost its relevance in the state as it had joined hands with the BRS, Sanjay said the BJP is the only party which can shake the ruling BRS. “It was the BJP which had forced KCR, who had been earlier confined to farmhouse, to come to Dharna Chowk and then to villages,” he said.

Describing all those who were joining the BRS as invalid coins, the BJP president said the people had lost faith in the new avatar of KCR. “They have realised that the BRS is a corrupt, dynastic and dictatorial party and also a party of Razakars. They believe that only the BJP has the capacity to pull the BRS down from power,” he said.
