Under whose umbrella did your best friend loot India: Kharge slam Modi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Under whose “umbrella” did the prime minister’s “best friend” loot everything in the country, asked Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday in a retort to Narendra Modi’s “umbrella” jibe while claiming the opposition party insulted its chief during its plenary session in Chhattisgarh.

At a rally in Karnataka’s Belagavi on Monday, Modi claimed that Kharge, who hails from the state, was insulted and disrespected by the Congress in favour of a “family”, despite his seniority and age.

“I have great respect for Mallikarjun Kharge, a son of this land, who has about 50 years of parliamentary or legislature experience. He has tried to do whatever he could in the service of people. But I was sad looking at how Kharge, who is the president of the party and a senior in age, was treated during the Congress’ session in Chhattisgarh.”

“The weather was hot… but in that heat, Kharge did not have the fortune of getting an umbrella’s shade. It was for someone standing next to him,” Modi said.

Hitting back at the prime minister over his remarks, Kharge said, “Narendra Modi ji, under whose umbrella did your ‘best friend’ loot everything in the country?”

“We are Congress persons standing under the shade of the tricolour, who freed the country by defeating ‘Company Raj’, and will never allow the country to become ‘Company Raj’,” Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi.

“Tell us, when will there be a joint parliamentary committee probe on Adani,” the Congress chief asked.

  • MP court grants bail to Cong leader held for ‘be ready to kill PM Modi’ remark

MP court grants bail to Cong leader held for ‘be ready to kill PM Modi’ remark

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday granted bail to former minister Raja Pateria over his alleged remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December last year. The senior Congress leader, who has been in jail for nearly the last two and a half months, finally got relief as his previous attempts to secure bail were rejected by both the district and High Court.

Pateria’s alleged remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi — “be ready to kill PM Modi, killing in the sense of defeat in the elections,” had created a political storm in Madhya Pradesh and his comments were condemned by leaders cutting across party lines. The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee had issued an official statement and condemned Pateria’s remarks.

Following this, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra directed the police to register an FIR against the Congress leader.

Subsequently, Pateria was arrested from his residence in Hatta village of Damoh district on December 13 last year. According to the police, Pateria was booked under sections 451, 504, 505 (1)(b), 505 (1)(C), 506, 153-B (1)(C) of the IPC.

Since then he has been in jail, and his multiple bail applications were rejected by the High Court. While rejecting his previous bail plea, Justice Sanjay Dwivedi of the High Court had made a long observation, which read — “It is noticed that it has become a fashion for some public leaders to seek popularity of the followers without caring for the consequence of deliverance. This practice is not only belittling the image of public leaders in the society but also becoming a cause of increase in criminality in politics.”

While addressing a gathering of tribals in his home town on December 11, Pateria had said, “Modi will end elections as he will continue to divide people on the basis of caste and religion. He is a threat to the Indian Constitution. If you want to save the Constitution, be ready to kill him.”

  • Those wearing ‘hawai chappals’ should travel in ‘hawai jahaz’: PM Modi

Those wearing ‘hawai chappals’ should travel in ‘hawai jahaz’: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

Shivamogga: “Those wearing ‘hawai chappals’ should travel in ‘hawai jahaz’ (aircraft). I’m seeing it happening”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday as he highlighted that India’s aviation market is growing rapidly.
Speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating the Shivamogga airport, he said in the coming days India will need thousands of aircraft, and the days of Made-in-India passenger aircraft are not far.

Modi also took a dig at the Congress, saying before 2014 Air India was often discussed for negative reasons, and the company was recognised for scams during that party’s rule.

The inauguration of the airport coincided with the 80th birthday of Karnataka BJP strongman and four-time Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who hails from Shivamogga district.

Modi asked people to switch on their mobile flash lights to commemorate Yediyurappa’s birthday.

Karnataka has made up its mind to repeatedly give opportunity to “double engine” government, he said.

This is Modi’s fifth visit this year to the State, where Assembly elections are due by May.

The new airport has been developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore. The passenger terminal building of the airport can handle 300 passengers per hour.

The airport is expected to improve connectivity and accessibility from Shivamogga and other neighbouring areas in the Malnad region of Karnataka, officials said

In all, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 3,600 crore here.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Yediyurappa were among those present on the occasion.

  • PM Modi underscores backwardness of Pasmanda Muslims

PM Modi underscores backwardness of Pasmanda Muslims

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday emphasised the importance of good governance for reaching the last mile, saying such an approach will have no scope for discrimination and corruption.

Modi also underscored backwardness among Pasmanda Muslims as he highlighted his government’s efforts to reach out to the most deprived sections of society with its various welfare schemes.

In a post-budget webinar on “reaching the last mile”, the prime minister said his government is launching a special mission for the most deprived among the tribals.

“We have to quickly provide various facilities to our tribes people in over 200 districts and over 22,000 villages of the country. Similarly among our minorities, especially among Muslims we have Pasmanda Muslims. How we have to take benefits to them… as they even today after so many years of Independence remain far behind,” he said.

The backward sections of Muslims are described as Pasmanda Muslims.

Modi said the policy of saturation, a reference to maximum coverage of various schemes, and the approach of reaching the last mile complement each other.

The prime minister said along with money, political will is needed for development and asserted that the development of tribal communities has been a priority for his government.

Emphasising the importance of good governance and constant monitoring for the desired goals, he said, “The more emphasis we put on good governance, the more easily our goal of reaching the last mile will be accomplished.”

For the first time, he asserted, the country is tapping the huge potential of its tribals at this scale, adding that the latest Union Budget has paid special attention to taking the mantra of reaching the last mile to tribal and rural areas.

This post-budget brainstorming is important from the point of view of implementation and time-bound delivery. This also ensures proper utilisation of every penny of taxpayers money, he said.

A “whole-of-the-nation” approach is needed to rapidly provide facilities as a special mission for the most deprived among the tribal community, he said.

In the context, the prime minister said the aspirational district programme has emerged as a successful model in terms of reaching the last mile.

Monday’s address was the fourth in a series of 12 post-budget webinars organised by the government to seek ideas and suggestions for the effective implementation of the initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2023.

Modi gave the example of new approaches in the immunisation and vaccine coverage in Mission Indradhanush and the Covid pandemic to illustrate the power of good governance in the last mile delivery.

He said as opposed to the earlier practices when the poor ran after the government for basic facilities, now the government is reaching the doorsteps of the poor.

“The day we decide that every basic facility will be provided to every citizen in every area, then we will see what a big change will come in the work culture at the local level. This is the spirit behind the policy of saturation. When our aim is to reach everyone, then there will be no scope for discrimination, nepotism and corruption,” he said.

He said work has started on more than 60,000 “Amrit Sarovars” and 30,000 of them have already been constructed.

Thousands of crores of rupees have been allocated to the Jal Jeevan Mission for making drinking water available in rural areas, he said.

Till 2019, only three crore houses in rural areas received piped drinking water and their numbers have now crossed 11 crore, he noted.

“These campaigns are improving the standard of living of those Indians living far and wide, who have been waiting for such facilities for decades. We do not have to stop here. We also have to review what can be done to further strengthen the water committee,” he added.

The prime minister asked stakeholders to discuss ways of linking housing with technology for finding ways of making strong but affordable houses, finding easy ways of benefiting from solar power and group-housing models acceptable in both urban and rural areas.

He noted that this year’s budget has kept Rs 80 thousand crore for housing for the poor.

A target has also been set in this budget to completely get rid of sickle cell disease. For this “whole of the nation approach” is needed, he said, noting every stakeholder related to health will have to work fast.

PM Modi lauds UP govt for state’s law and order situation

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the Uttar Pradesh government, saying the state is today recognised for its law and order situation as well as development-oriented stance — a far cry from the previous image of the mafia and crushed law and order situation.

He said this while virtually addressing the Uttar Pradesh employment mela.

PM Modi said that the “double engine” government in the state had led “to new opportunities for employment, business and investment”.

In the mela, appointment letters were provided to direct recruits for sub-inspectors in Uttar Pradesh Police and equivalent posts in Nagrik Police, Platoon Commanders and Fire Department Second Officers.

“When you come to this service, you get a ‘Danda’ from the police, but God has given you a heart too. That’s why you have to be sensitive and make the system sensitive,” the Prime Minister told the new recruits.

PM Modi’s comments incidentally come just days after a 46-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter were killed during an anti-encroachment drive at Madauli village in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh.

Subsequently, the police registered an FIR against 39 people, including a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), lekhpal (revenue officer) and the station house officer of the local police station.

Meanwhile, PM Modi during the occasion, also underlined the training aspect, emphasizing that it will improve sensitivity while modern areas like cyber crimes and forensic science will promote smart policing.

The Prime Minister stressed that new recruits will have the responsibility of both security and giving direction to society.

“You can be a reflection of both service and strength for the people,” Modi said.

  • ‘It’s political language’, says Udit Raj on Congress slogan ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’

‘It’s political language’, says Udit Raj on Congress slogan ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Congress leader Udit Raj on Saturday defended the “Modi teri kabar khudegi” (Modi, your grave would be dug) slogan by his fellow party leaders at the Delhi airport and called it “political language”.

The Congress said it was a “rajnaitik kabar (political grave)” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi they were referring to.

Notably, Congress leaders allegedly raised “Modi teri kabar khudegi” slogan after party leader Pawan Khera was stopped from boarding a flight to Chhattisgarh’s Raipur at the Delhi airport on Thursday.

“It’s a political language. When PM Modi speaks of ‘Congress-Mukt Bharat’, does he mean he wants to kill Congress or deregister it?…If the country has to be healthy, it’s essential that ‘rajnaitik kabar’ of PM Narendra Modi be dug…,” he said on Congress’ slogan ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’.

Earlier on Friday, coming down heavily on Congress for raising the slogan ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’, PM Modi said that the country and people are saying “Modi Tera Kamal Khilega” (Modi, your lotus will bloom).

Retorting to the Congress’ remarks, the Prime Minister said that the country will give a “befitting reply” to the people with offensive thinking and language.

“I can see BJP all around in Meghalaya. Be it hills or plains, village or town, I can see the lotus blooming. Those who have been rejected by the country, who the country is no more ready to accept, are now chanting ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’. But the country is saying ‘Modi tera kamal khilega’,” PM Modi said while addressing an election rally here on Friday.

PM Modi went on saying, “The people of the country will give a befitting reply to the people having such offensive thinking and language. The people of Meghalaya and Nagaland will also give a reply.”

  • Our govt has accorded top priority to development of Karnataka: PM Modi

Our govt has accorded top priority to development of Karnataka: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the development of Karnataka has been a top priority of the ruling BJP whereas previous dispensations used to divert its money to outside the state.

He also said his government has worked for India’s progress by taking along traditions as well as technology.

“There was a time when people after forming government in Karnataka would take its money outside. Today, the country’s money and resources are honestly directed towards Karnataka’s development,” he said after inaugurating the “Barisu Kannada Dim Dimava” cultural festival here.

The prime minister said the state annually got Rs 11,000 crore between 2009 and 2014 when the Congress-led UPA was in power, while it has risen to Rs 30,000 crore under his government.

While the state received a total of only Rs 4,000 crore for railway projects in the five years preceding 2014, when Modi took the office, the amount in the latest budget alone is Rs 7,000 crore.

While nearly Rs 6,000 crore was spent on building highways in the state in the five years before he came to power, it is now Rs 5,000 crore annually for the last nine years, Modi said.

The face of Karnataka is changing rapidly due to the fast pace of development, he said.

Assembly polls are expected to be held in the state in May this year, and the BJP has been working overtime to retain power in the southern state.

The prime minister said his government has worked for India’s progress by taking along traditions as well as technology.

If it has rejuvenated ancient temples and cultural centres, then India has also become world leader in digital payment, he said.

His government has brought back stolen idols and artefacts while also drawing record FDI in the country, Modi said.

He also lauded Karnataka’s contribution in nation-building and paid tributes to its leading figures in different walks of life.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, several other BJP leaders, including Union ministers, and religious figures were present in the function.

Bommai said the state is rich in natural resources, culture and technology and will play a big role in realising Modi’s resolve of making India a USD 5 trillion economy.

Karnataka in the coming years will contribute a share of USD 1 trillion to the national economy, he said.

He also invited Modi to the “Akhil Bharatiya Vishwa Kannada Sahitya Sammelana” to be held next year in Davanagere district.
