Good way to keep healthy is to practice yoga even at workplace: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said hectic work schedules and sedentary lifestyles bring with them their own set of challenges, underlining that a good way to keep healthy is to practice yoga even at the workplace.

His remarks came in reaction to the Ministry of Ayush tweet about Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal launching a one-minute video on “Y-Break” for motivating mass participation in yoga, particularly for corporate workplaces and workaholics.

“Hectic work schedules and sedentary lifestyles bring with it their own set of challenges. A good way to keep healthy is to practice Yoga even at the workplace,” Modi said.

In another tweet, the prime minister said India is committed to self-reliance in energy and furthering sustainable growth.

His tweet was in response to Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s tweet in which he said India’s journey to be energy self-sufficient by 2047 has begun well.

“India is now the world’s 3rd largest energy consumer, 3rd largest consumer of Oil, 3rd Largest LPG Consumer, 4th largest LNG importer, 4th largest refiner & 4th largest automobile market in the world,” Puri tweeted.

Video: BJP unveils ‘Modi marches on’ animated video in run-up to 2024 polls

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP has released a short animated video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi marching ahead in his mission to serve various sections of society and firmly on course to make India a five-trillion dollar economy, brushing aside abuses and allegations showered on him by the Opposition.

The four-minute-thirty-second video animation, titled “Mujhe Chalte Jaana Hai” (I have to keep walking), shows Modi’s journey from becoming the chief minister of Gujarat to the prime minister amid barbs by Congress leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mani Shankar Aiyar and Digvijaya Singh.

The video makes no mention of the 2024 parliamentary elections and shows Modi climbing a flight of stairs past the 2014 and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections towards a five-trillion-dollar economy with a trademark jhola on the shoulder, walking past opposition leaders levelling allegations against him and unveiling government schemes for the poor after becoming prime minister.

Opposition leaders are shown shouting “maut ka saudagar”, “chaiwallah”, “chowkidar chor hai” and “Gautam Das” which seem to have no impact on Modi’s journey.

The prime minister is shown doing a tightrope walk over a deep valley carrying a huge syringe of indigenously developed vaccine during the COVID-19 pandemic.

US President Joe Biden, his predecessor Barack Obama, and former British premier Boris Johnson also make cameo appearances in the short video, which was shared by several Union ministers.

Obama is first seen alongside Sonia Gandhi as the US denied a visa to Modi when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. Obama is shown running up the stairs with a US visa in hand after Modi became prime minister in 2014, leaving Gandhi grimacing.

After the 2019 Lok Sabha win, Biden and Johnson are seen cheering Modi seated on the prime minister’s chair.

Modi is shown walking past a distraught Rahul Gandhi, with the Rafale allegation landing at his feet after the prime minister launched a helicopter manufacturing unit at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and a BBC newsreader reaching out to him in connection with the documentary.

The video ends with Modi marching towards the target of a five-trillion-dollar economy ignoring abuses showered on him.

  • If PM Modi was nominated, India could have won one more Oscar: KTR

If PM Modi was nominated, India could have won one more Oscar: KTR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana industries minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that India could have won one more Oscar award if the PM was nominated under the best actor category.

Speaking on the Oscar win by the RRR movie team for the ‘Naatu Naatu’ song, the BRS leader mocked the Prime Minister for being a ‘great actor’ for making promises like delivering Rs 15 lakh to every Indian’s bank account.

He also said that the Prime Minister is ‘looting’ the country for the sake of Adani. He also called the BJP the ‘misfortune’ for Telangana.

KTR made these remarks during a public meeting held at the Jukkal constituency in Kamareddy district.

“What did the Congress do for the state in the last 55 years? Why should a chance be given to leaders who haven’t done anything when they had the chance? The BJP had also promised many things for Telangana during the bifurcation like the Kajipet coach factory and the Bayyaram steel plant but has terribly failed in delivering them. Alas, they still come here and speak shamelessly,” he remarked.

The minister also attacked PM Modi-led centre for a hike in the LPG prices. “Centre increased the petrol price from Rs 70 to Rs 115 per litre. The gas cylinder is now Rs 1200 from the earlier Rs 400. Prices of all essential commodities went up. So, is Modi God for doing all these injustices? He is only God to Adani but not for the people of Telangana,” KTR said.

Earlier, KTR laid the foundation stone for Nagamadugu lift irrigation project and also inaugurated a bridge built on the Manjeera river.

Piyush Goyal links RRR’s Oscar win to PM Modi; Congress mocks

    [ad_1]

Leader of Opposition and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge while congratulating the Oscar winners – The Elephant Whisperers Netflix documentary and Naatu Naatu song from the Telugu-movie RRR – in Rajya Sabha on Monday in a lighter note ‘requested’ Central Government not to take the credit for the wins.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge said, “I also join to congratulate both the awardees – Naatu Naatu and Elephant Whisperers – both of them come from South India. It is a great pride for us. We are also very proud of whatever you have said, we are with you.”

“But my only request is that the ruling party should not take credit saying we have directed, we have written the poem, Modiji has directed the film. That is my only request. It is a contribution of the country,” Kharge said.

His sarcastic remarks were met with roaring laughter from the House, including BJP leaders like Food Minister Piyush Goyal who had earlier drawn a parallel between the Academy Awards and PM Modi’s choice for the Rajya Sabha nominations. Piyush said that the PM’s chose “outstanding personalities” for Rajya Sabha with his “stamp of quality” in the nominations.

In a Facebook post titled “Rajya Sabha Nominations – An Oscar for Prime Minister’s Office”, Goyal listed the names of the nominees for the Rajya Sabha.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has left his stamp of quality in nominating members to the Rajya Sabha by choosing outstanding personalities who have made a mark in diverse fields such as Indian culture, social work and sports,” the minister wrote.

“Shri V. Vijayendra Prasad, the scriptwriter of the film RRR, is one of the several exceptional people whom the Prime Minister nominated to the Rajya Sabha in July 2022. The scriptwriter from Andhra Pradesh has been associated with the creative world for decades. Last year, Prime Minister Modi ji recognised his greatness and said “his works showcase India’s glorious culture and have made a mark globally.” Today, the global spotlight is on ‘RRR’ for winning an Oscar for the original song ‘Naatu Naatu’. This is a global endorsement of the Prime Minister’s choice,” he elaborated.

  • MP Assembly passes ‘censure motion’ against BBC documentary on Modi

MP Assembly passes ‘censure motion’ against BBC documentary on Modi

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a ‘censure motion’ against a BBC documentary for allegedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bad light over the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The motion was a private member resolution moved by ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Shailendra Jain with the approval of the state’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Narottam Mishra. It was passed by a voice vote.

With this, after Gujarat — the home state of PM Modi, Madhya Pradesh became the second BJP-ruled state to pass a ‘censor motion’ against the BBC.

Notably, the Gujarat Assembly had on Friday passed a resolution requesting the Centre to take strict action against the BBC for tarnishing the image and popularity of PM Narendra Modi with the documentary.

A censure motion is an expression of strong disapproval. In Parliamentary procedure, it is a debatable main motion that could be adopted by a majority vote.

Before the motion was passed by the Madhya Pradesh Assembly by voice vote on Monday, Jain said the BBC had telecast the objectionable documentary by misinterpreting the 2002 Gujarat riots and portraying the then chief minister Narendra Modi in a bad light.

He said the documentary had also cast aspersions on the judiciary, which amounts to contempt of court, and added that the judiciary works independently and freely in India.

He also mentioned that the Central government should not forgive the BBC and take action against the broadcaster.

Speaker Girish Gautam placed the resolution to test, which was passed by a voice vote.

The controversial two-part documentary by the BBC titled ‘India: The Modi Question’ claims to have probed certain aspects of the riots, which took place after the Godhra train burning incident, when Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat.

Notably, earlier in January, soon after its release, the government had issued directions to block multiple YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the documentary.

Finish Modi and country will be saved, says Congress’ Rajasthan in-charge

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress’ Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday levelled allegations against PM Modi, questioning the Pulwama incident. He said that if Modi is finished the country will be saved, however, if Modi stays then the country will be ruined.

Randhawa said, “Our fight is not with Adani, but with the BJP. Kill BJP and Adani-Ambani will die automatically. When the Congress comes, Adani-Ambani should not come. They should go to jail. Many of our leaders did not take them along. This has to be taken care of.”

He added, “I tell all leaders to end their fighting and talk about ending Modi-BJP. If Modi is finished then the country will be saved. If Modi stays then the country will be ruined. Modi talks about patriotism. They don’t even know what patriotism is.”

Randhawa questioned the Pulwama incident and said that Modi says “Pakistan mein ghuskar marenge”. First of all, tell me, how did Pulwama happen? Get it checked. Wasn’t it done keeping in mind the elections.”

He stated “All those who went to jail during the freedom struggle were from Congress families. Five generations of Congress families have gone to jail for the country. There is blood of every Congressman in Andaman’s Cellular Jail. Modi says what has the Congress done. The Congress has given freedom to the country, it has given the country to a dishonest person like you,” he commented.

Randhawa was speaking at the Raj Bhavan gherao programme organised by the Congress under the leadership of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasara on Monday in protest against the crony capitalism policy of the BJP central government in favour of Adani.

Randhawa said, “When the British came, they had brought the East India Company to do business. Modiji has brought a man like Adani by making him like the East India Company which looted the country for 200 years and took it over. The country is moving towards slavery again. Not Modi but Adani is deciding what will happen in the country,” he said.

He added, “First take out Modi, if Modi goes out then Adani will automatically end. First kill BJP, Adani will end automatically. Narendra Modi is destroying the country and selling the country.”

He lashed out at factionalism and selfish leaders in the Congress and said, “We have to work for the Congress, not for any individual.”

  • Demonetisation was ill-conceived, Modi must apologise to people: Uttam Kumar

Demonetisation was ill-conceived, Modi must apologise to people: Uttam Kumar

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Nalgonda Congress MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has finally admitted that it has failed in achieving all the objectives of demonetisation, implemented in November 2016.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that demonetisation failed to achieve its objectives of curbing black money, eliminating counterfeit currency, and promoting digital payments.

Reddy said, “The data has proved that the demonetisation was an ill-conceived and poorly executed move which had severe economic consequences.”

He demanded that PM Modi apologises to the nation for causing hardship to the common man while executing a disastrous plan in a press release on Monday.

“The statistics pertaining to Currency in Circulation (CiC) and the value of Notes in Circulation (NiC) provided by the Finance Minister clearly shows that none of the objectives of demonetisation was achieved by the Modi government,” said the Congress leader.

The data was provided as a part of the written reply given by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to a question raised by Reddy during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

“Demonetisation was supposed to reduce black money by reducing cash in circulation. However, after demonetisation, the cash in circulation has continued to rapidly grow. Even relative to the size of the economy, the ratio of cash to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown from 8.7% in March 2017 to 13.7% in March 2022,” said Reddy recounting the details of the data.

    Objectives of demonetisation:

The Finance minister, in her written reply, said, “The mission of the government was to move towards a less cash economy to reduce the generation and circulation of black money and to promote the digital economy”.

The objectives of withdrawal of legal tender character of specified bank notes (Rs 1,000 & Rs 500), was to contain the rising incidence of fake currency notes which were largely in circulation; to limit the usage of high denomination banknotes for storage of unaccounted wealth and to contain the rising level of using the fake currency for financing subversive activities like drug trafficking and terrorism, said Reddy’s press release.

    Currency in Circulation (CiC):

He said that the data clearly shows that the Currency in Circulation (CiC) and the value of Notes in Circulation (NiC) almost doubled post-demonetisation.

“While Currency in Circulation in March 2016 was Rs 16.63 lakh crores, it stood at Rs 31.33 lakh crores in March 2022. The reduction in CiC was visible only for a year when it decreased to Rs 13.35 lakh crores in March 2017,” he said. He added that the currency in circulation increased every year.

    Notes in Circulation (NiC)

The Congress MP said that the volume and value of Notes in Circulation (NiC) have increased significantly post-demonetisation. “The volume and value of NiC in March 2016 were 9,02,660 lakhs and Rs 16,41,500 crores respectively. It increased to 13,05,326 and Rs 31,05,721 in March 2022,” he added.

“What was the impact of demonetization after it caused immense suffering to almost all citizens of the country? It was supposed to handle black money by reducing cash in circulation, but clearly, the cash has not been reduced,” said Reddy.

    Black Money:

Uttam Kumar Reddy said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that demonetisation was aimed to curb the circulation of black money, which is generated through illegal means such as corruption, tax evasion, and money laundering. However, the move did not result in the detection of a significant amount of black money,”

“According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), around 99.3% of the banned currency notes were deposited back into the banking system, which means that the holders of black money were able to convert their old notes into new ones,” He said.

The Congress MP said that the government’s efforts to track down black money holders through various measures such as the Income Declaration Scheme and the Benami Transactions Act were also not very successful.

“Is it true that the majority of black money has always been held in gold and real estate, and it continues to be held that way while the government chose to target only cash which primarily harmed salaried class and small businesses which rely on cash?” he asked.

    Counterfeit currency notes:

Questioning the government on the steps it has taken to counter fake currency, he said, “After falling in 2020-21, counterfeit notes recorded a 10.7 percent uptick in 2021-22, with the Rs 500 denomination fake notes rising by 102 percent. Fake notes of Rs 2,000 increased by 55% in 2021-22 over the previous fiscal year, as per RBI’s Annual Report of 2021-22”.

“It led to an economic slowdown, which resulted in job losses and reduced consumer spending. The cash crunch led to a decline in consumer spending, which affected several sectors such as retail, real estate, and hospitality. The informal sector, which relies heavily on cash transactions, was hit the hardest,” said Reddy.

Kharge slams Modi govt, says those ‘destroying’ democracy are talking of saving it

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday hit back at the government for raising Rahul Gandhi’s democracy remarks in Parliament, saying those “crushing” democracy are talking of saving it.

He also dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “dictator”.

Kharge took out a protest march from Parliament House complex to Vijay Chowk along with MPs of other opposition parties, including those of the BRS, Left parties and AAP, after the BJP launched an offensive against Gandhi for allegedly defaming India by his remarks on democracy and demanded an apology from him.

Gandhi had recently alleged in London that the structures of Indian democracy are under “brutal attack” and there is a full-scale assault on the institutions of the country.

Talking to reporters at Vijay Chowk, Kharge said, “They (BJP) are crushing and destroying democracy and are talking of saving democracy and the country’s pride.”

He charged that there was no rule of law and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was running the country like a “dictator”.

“They are ‘suppressing’ opposition parties through ‘misuse’ of agencies. This is like ‘ulta chor kotwal ko daante’ (pot calling the kettle black),” the Congress chief alleged.

Kharge alleged that PM Modi has “ridiculed” India abroad several times and cited examples of his speeches in China, South Korea, Canada, UAE.

If the prime minister can say all kinds of things against India, why is it a crime if Rahul Gandhi does so, he said.

Kharge alleged that all this is being done by the government to divert attention from the Adani-Hindenburg issue.

“We are demanding a JPC on the Adani issue. The government is trying to divert attention from this…We are together and will continue to demand JPC on the Adani issue,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition also alleged that he was being discriminated against in the Rajya Sabha as the Leader of the House was allowed to speak for 10 minutes and when he rose the House was adjourned after two minutes.

Opposition parties earlier met in the chamber of Leader of Opposition to coordinate their strategy in Parliament.

This is the first day of the second part of the Budget session of Parliament.
