UP scribe questions BJP MLC on development issues; later held for alleged assault

    [ad_1]

A local journalist was arrested on Sunday on charges of alleged assault and abuse after he questioned a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Gulab Devi over promised development works in her constituency. The incident happened in Chandausi of Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh.

The journalist – Sanjay Rana – reports for a Youtube channel Moradabad Ujala News. He is presently under police custody. An FIR was registered under Sections 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).

The video of Rana asking questions has gone viral. In the video, Rana asks the MLC regarding pakka road construction, the unavailability of government toilets, and the construction of a boundary wall of a Devi temple.

Rana was counter-questioned by the MLC’s associates who asked him if he was asking a question to the BJP leader or giving a lecture.

Rana then turned to the crowd of villagers who in unison agreed to his questions. MLC Gulab Devi assured reporter Rana that all works will be completed in due course of time.”Jab tu waha khada tha tabhi mein teri nighaye pehchan lee thi. Teri saari baatein theek hai. Sara kaam jaldi ho jayega (I understood your purpose when I saw you standing over there. I understand your problems and I assure you that all work will be completed),” Gulab Devi answered Rana.

Gulab Devi had come to Buddh Nagar village to inaugurate a check dam.

However, Rana found himself behind bars soon after, as an FIR was lodged against him based on the complaint of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Shubham Raghav.

According to the FIR, Raghav has accused Rana of abuse and assault.

When Siasat.com spoke to Raghav, he said he was slapped by Rana.

“Rana had planted 4-5 drunk men in the crowd who were constantly hooting and creating a public nuisance. After his rendezvous with our leader Gulab Devi, I questioned him regarding his attitude toward her. Suddenly, one of his associates grabbed my collar and then Rana slapped me. I did not want to create any ruckus at that time and went straight to the police station to lodge a complaint,” Raghav told Siasat.com.

Raghav claimed that Rana does not belong to any newspaper or news channel. “He is a fake journalist. He was holding a mic of some Moradabad Ujala. I think it is a youtube channel,” he said.

BJP MLC resigns from legislative council in Karnataka, joins Congress

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party legislative council member Puttanna on Thursday joined the Congress alleging large scale corruption in the government.

Puttanna said he has tendered his resignation from the council as well as the primary membership of the BJP.

The four-time member of Legislative Council was representing the teachers’ constituency of Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and Ramanagara districts. He was re-elected to the council in October 2020 and his tenure ends on October 2026.

“Today I arrived at the decision and resigned from the BJP’s primary membership and legislative council membership. I submitted my resignation letter to the office of the legislative council chairman,” Puttanna told reporters.

He alleged that the corruption prevailing in Karnataka forced him to take the decision.

“The dream with which I had joined the BJP could not be materialised because of the suffocation,” the leader said.

Puttanna alleged that not a single problem could be solved by the government.

  • Telangana Governor fumes over reward for MLC who ‘insulted’ her

Telangana Governor fumes over reward for MLC who ‘insulted’ her

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday hit out at the state government for rewarding a legislator who ‘insulted and humiliated’ her.

Speaking at an event held at Raj Bhavan in connection with International Women’s Day, the Governor targetted the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government headed by K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

She did not name anybody but it was apparent that she was referring to the appointment of Member of Legislative Council P. Kaushik Reddy as government whip in the Legislative Council.

“It’s very disheartening. Even the woman holding the highest office has been ridiculed and humiliated. The highest office is insulted and humiliated and the person who humiliates the highest office is rewarded. That’s the message they have given to the people of Telangana,” she said.

“It’s very very unfortunate. When a person throws stones on a woman, if we garland that person what message are we giving to the womanhood of Telangana,” she asked.

“It’s not me. I am with everyone. If a woman, if a girl child, if a person is suffering, I will be with them. When I am insulted so many women are with me. Thank you for that. Because you are all with me I am standing as a very strong person here,” she told the participants.

Kaushik Reddy had made derogatory remarks against the governor for not giving assent to the bills sent to her for approval by the state government. He used foul language while commenting that the Governor was deliberately sitting on the bills.

On January 26, the video clip of Kaushik Reddy using the abusive word in Telugu went viral on social media.

He had made the remark amid a rift between the Governor and the state government over pending bills.

The differences between the BRS government and the governor had first cropped up in 2021 when she did not approve the Cabinet’s recommendation to nominate Kaushik Reddy to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota in social service category.

When the Governor delayed clearing the file, the BRS government sent Kaushik Reddy to the upper house under the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) quota.

During her speech on Monday, the Governor also hit back at those trolling her. He told them to be decent and behave. “Don’t keep pricking women. You don’t know the strength of women,” she said.

Tamilisai also took a dig at the state women ministers and officials who stayed away from the programme.

“When a celebration is planned, everyone should come together, that is our culture. We have to leave all differences and we should come together. Nowadays, that culture is vanishing. When an invitation is coming from one place, it is not seen in a transparent way. It’s seen in a different way. They don’t see the affections through the card, they see the possibility of defections which could happen,” the governor said with a laugh.

She had been criticising the chief minister, ministers and others for not accepting her invitations for various programmes at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of festivals and other important occasions.

Chittoor: Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Roja on Wednesday alleged that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu and other TDP leaders were misusing the police.
