Restriction on Ram Navami procession: BJP MLA asks if Jharkhand is ruled by Taliban

    [ad_1]

Ranchi: The BJP on Tuesday created a ruckus in the Jharkhand Assembly over restrictions imposed on Ram Navami procession and wondered if the state is being ruled by the Taliban.

During the Question Hour, BJP legislator Maish Jaiswal demanded that DJ (large music system) be allowed in Hazaribag’s Ram Navami procession.

An agitated Jaiswal also tore his kurta while making the statement.

Wondering whether people are living in a state ruled by the Taliban, Jaiswal alleged that FIRs were filed against innocent people while five persons are on fast unto death in his constituency Hazaribag demanding that DJ be allowed during the procession.

Jaiswal also alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to destroy the 104-year-old tradition of Ram Navami procession in Hazaribagh.

BJP MLAs chanted slogans such as ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’ in the House and created uproarious scenes.

Minister Mithilesh Thakur claimed that those staging dharna seeking to play DJ in Hazaribag are BJP workers.

“There is a directive to comply with the orders of the Supreme Court and the high court regarding the decibel limit. We respect all religions – Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian. We are real devotees of Ram,” he said.

Hundreds of people recently took out a rally in Hazaribag against the administration’s order prohibiting the playing of recorded music and carrying traditional weapons including lathis during Ram Navami processions.

Ram Navami processions in Hazaribag are held for a longer time compared to other parts of the state.

Amid the uproar, Congress MLA Deepika Pandey Singh reached the well of the House claiming she was insulted by the BJP as a saffron party MP has described her as Nagarvadhu’ (bride of the city).

She said: “I am a mother. I am a sister. They (BJP) don’t want Goddesses and Gods. They want a city bride. They are not Hindus, they act in the name of Hindus.”

Meanwhile, the Assembly passed two bills for setting up private universities in the state amid a demand by the BJP for sending the proposed legislation to the Select Committing for proper vetting.

Thakur said setting up two more universities would result in increasing enrolment of students for higher education. There are 16 private universities in Jharkhand.

TDP MLA attacked in Assembly at Jagan’s behest: C Naidu

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday alleged that a TDP MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly was attacked by ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLAs at the behest of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The former chief minister alleged that the attack on Dalit MLA, Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, was pre-planned and carried out with the encouragement from the chief minister.

Strongly condemning the attack on TDP MLA inside the Assembly, he termed it the darkest day in the history of Assembly.

Never in the history of Andhra Pradesh, a MLA was attacked inside the House and today is the darkest day in the Assembly’s history, Chandrababu Naidu said.

He stated that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will remain as a tainted chief minister who spoiled the image of the legislative bodies. “With the physical attack on the MLA right on the floor of the Assembly, the people clearly understood the policies of the YSRCP,” he said.

Terming the ongoing session of the Assembly as a “Kaurava Sabha”, Chandrababu Naidu felt that Jagan has gone “totally mad” with the latest results of the elections to the Legislative Council.

The state Assembly on Monday witnessed unprecedented scenes when the TDP members were staging a protest by surrounding Speaker Tammineni Seetharam. They were demanding the government to withdraw an order imposing restrictions on public meetings on roads.

Amid the ruckus, an MLA of the ruling party rushed to the Podium and pulled back Swamy, who fell down. Another YSRCP MLA had also joined the manhandling. MLAs of both the parties blamed each other for the attack.

Karnataka bribe case: Lokayukta to file another case against accused BJP MLA

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Lokayukta sleuths are preparing to file another case against BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, accused in a bribe for tender case, regarding the accumulation of disproportionate wealth, sources said on Thursday.

Sources said that the Lokayukta authorities are upset over the fact that the prime accused in the case, Madal Virupakshappa has obtained bail, whereas the second accused in the case, his son, Prashath Madal has been jailed.

The Lokayukta has already approached the Supreme Court, questioning the granting of bail to the BJP MLA. The Supreme Court on other hand refused to hear the plea. The Advocates Association has also written to the Chief Justice of India raising concern about posting of the matter of bail of BJP MLA.

The association has sought the attention of the CJI that justice should be the same for an ordinary man and VIP.

Sources explain that the Lokayukta sleuths have started gathering inputs on assets of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa in Davanagere district, across the state and other parts of the country. After getting evidence regarding disproportionate wealth, the sleuths will lodge another complaint against him, sources confirmed.

Prashath Madal, a government officer and son of the BJP MLA was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 40 lakh bribe at his office. Later, the authorities recovered more than Rs 8 crore from the residences. It was alleged that Prashath was receiving bribes for allocation of tender towards the procurement of raw materials for the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL).

BJP MLA was the chairman of KSDL and following the trap, he was asked to tender resignation for his post.

Karnataka BJP MLA slams party for ‘anti-Muslim’ stance

    [ad_1]

Video of Umanatha Kotian, a BJP MLA from Karnataka, criticising his party’s purported ‘anti-Muslim’ stance went viral online.

Addressing a meeting of Minorities in Kinnigoli village near Mangaluru a few days ago, Kotian, a first-time MLA from Moodbidri, remarked, “Our BJP leaders think that Muslims and Christians will not vote for the party and so they should not work for them. Nobody else will talk about it but me since I am honest. Our party members are conceited. But, I am working against this mentality,” Kotian stated.

He also stated that he has helped numerous mosques, madrasas, and churches in obtaining development financing. “Even recently, I requested the chief minister to donate Rs 5 crore for mosques and churches and he agreed to give Rs 2.5 crore. But, regardless of religion, you should support someone who delivers,” he remarked, according to a report by The New Indian Express.

Furthermore, he said that his district had not witnessed any community violence or hate speech in the previous five years. “Did you hear anything about how a Muslim or a Christian should not work? I make no distinctions. Come to me if you need anything. I’m not asking you to vote. But all I ask is that you vote for those that deliver,” he remarked.

“Forget the party. I’ve done work for you. As a result, I’m asking for a salary, which is my right,” he explained.

While many have welcomed the BJP legislator, certain Hindutva organisations have attacked him for ‘appeasing Muslims’. “The video was chopped and pasted to suit someone’s requirements,” Umanath Kotian stated when asked, the report said. You must watch the entire video. Then you will understand. I did not mean what the viral video depicts,” he remarked.

Hyderabad: Raja Singh demands case against AIMIM Bahadurpura MLA

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh raked up a storm when he demanded Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) K T Rama Rao to stop developmental works in Old City as citizens there are not paying power and water bills to the government.

“Why should the taxpayers money of ‘New City’ be used for taking up developmental activities in the old city of Hyderabad? People are not paying power bills because they have been directed by the All India Majlis –e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party MLAs,” alleged Singh.

He was reacting to a recent incident of AIMIM Bahadurpura MLA Mohammad Moazam Khan threatening officials of TSSPDCL (Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited) who had reportedly come for an inspection in Al Jubail Colony, Chandrayangutta on Sunday.

The suspended BJP leader in a video statement said the Bahadurpura MLA is seen threatening the power department officials not to take pending power arrears and go away.

“Such kind of behavior is rampant in the Old City,” he alleged.

Raja Singh further said, “If I make a statement the police immediately reacts and books a case on me for some or other offence. The AIMIM MLA threatened a government official and no case is booked on him yet.”

Telangana: MLA Rajaiah visits house of sarpanch who alleged sexual harassment

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Station Ghanpur MLA Thatikonda Rajaiah visited the house of Jankipuram sarpanch Kurusapally Navya Praveen on Sunday who allegedly accused him of “intimidation and sexual harassment”. The sarpanch had sought urgent intervention from chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

After speaking to the sarpanch, Rajaiah addressed the media and said, “I apologize to anyone that was hurt by me. I will stay by women’s side in their struggle for their rights.”

On Friday, Sarpanch Navya explained her ordeal at a press conference.

“A BRS MLA called me and directed me to “fall into line”, otherwise we will not cooperate. There is also a woman involved in this. It is not my culture to defame a woman and thus I cannot reveal her name,” Navya told the media.

She recalled that the concerned MLA dictated that neither her husband nor any other man should accompany her while meeting him. “While clicking photos, he said, that we should stand very close,” Sarpanch Navya alleged.

“During an event, I was standing a little far. He insulted me in front of everyone asking if I was some statue. I request CM KCR and KT Rama Rao not to give tickets to MLA Rajaiah in the coming elections. If he gets a ticket, there will be more atrocities on women.”

MLA Rajaiah was reportedly asked by the leadership of the BRS party to sort out the issue.

He further announced Rs 25 lakhs for the development of Janakipuram village.

Telangana State Women’s commission took a suo moto cognizance and called for an investigation into Rajaiah’s comments.

  • ED summons NCP MLA Hasan Mushrif for questioning in money laundering case

ED summons NCP MLA Hasan Mushrif for questioning in money laundering case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned senior NCP leader and MLA Hasan Mushrif for questioning in a money laundering investigation being conducted against him and others, officials said Saturday.

The politician has been asked to depose before the federal probe agency in Mumbai next week so that his statements can be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said.

The ED had conducted searches at multiple premises linked to him in January. Some fresh searches were conducted over the last few days in Kolhapur and some other locations.

The money laundering case is linked to a probe related to alleged irregularities in the operations of some sugar mills based in the state that are connected to Mushrif, including the Sar Senapati Santaji Ghorpade Sugar Factory Ltd to which his three sons are linked.

Mushrif (68) is a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from the Kagal seat in Kolhapur. He is also the vice president of the party headed by Sharad Pawar.

BJP leader Kirit Somiaya had in 2021 alleged that the former rural development minister (Mushrif) indulged in corrupt practices by holding ‘benami’ entities through his family members and companies. The NCP had then dismissed these charges.
