BJP MLA convicted in fake mark sheet case surrenders before Ayodhya court

    [ad_1]

Ayodhya: Former BJP MLA from the Gosaiganj constituency of Ayodhya Indra Pratap Tiwari who has been convicted in a fake mark sheet case, surrendered before the MP-MLA court here on Friday.

Tiwari was currently out on bail.

The surrender has come after the Allahabad High Court dismissed his appeal on March 17 against a trial court order that led to his conviction.

Talking to PTI, Dinesh Tiwari, Council for the MLA, said, “Indra Pratap Tiwari surrendered on Friday in the court of Special Judge MP-MLA Additional District Judge Ashok Dubey. The court took the former MLA in custody and sent him to jail.”

Dismissing Tiwari’s appeal, the Lucknow bench of the court, earlier this month, noted that the former legislator should be taken into custody forthwith to serve out the sentence awarded to him by a sessions court in Ayodhya.

In its order, the court took note of the fact that Tiwari had a criminal history of 35 cases. Besides the former MLA, the two other appellants were Kripa Nidhan Tiwari and Phool Chand Yadav.

“From the evidence led by the prosecution, the offences under sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC are fully made out and proved against the appellants and the trial court rightly convicted and sentenced the appellants for the aforesaid offences,” the HC order read.

In separate appeals, the three had challenged the 2021 judgment of a special MP-MLA court in Ayodhya, sentencing Tiwari to five years in jail.

After his conviction in the case, Tiwari was disqualified.

The appellants were put on trial for the offences committed while getting themselves admitted to Saket Mahavidyalaya in Ayodhya on the basis of fake mark sheets.

A complaint was filed by the then principal of the college, Yaduvansh Ram Tripathi, on February 14, 1992, and February 16, 1992, with the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Faizabad. Subsequently, a chargesheet was filed in the case.

The MP-MLA court convicted the trio of the charges against him on October 18, 2021.

Bihar JD-U MLA finds CHC staff drying wheat on hospital beds

    [ad_1]

Patna: JDU MLA from Valmiki Nagar of Bihar’s Pashchim Champaran district, Dhirendra Pratap Singh alias Rinku Singh, exposed the “mismanagement” at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in his constituency.

The MLA went to the CHC in Thakahara village on a surprise inspection and found that wheat is being dried on hospital bed. Further, the legislator found that the operation theatre at the CHC is being used as store room and the medicines were thrown in dustbins.

“It was absolutely shocking that hospital employees were using beds to dry wheat. Dirt and dust are piled up in the male and female wards. The medicines are thrown in the dustbins and an operation theatre is being used as a store room,” Singh said.

“When we checked the roster of the hospital, several doctors and nurses were found absent… There was a complete mismanagement in the CHC, which is not tolerable. I will meet the district magistrate and civil surgeon, and will complain about it,” he said.

  • Video: BJP MLA watches x-rated clip during Tripura Assembly session

Video: BJP MLA watches x-rated clip during Tripura Assembly session

    [ad_1]

Agartala: In a shameful incident, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Bagbasa constituency, Jadab Lal Debnath, was allegedly caught watching porn during the Tripura Assembly session. This incident has once again raised concerns about the conduct of lawmakers and their sense of responsibility towards the public.

This is not the first time that such an incident has come to light. In 2012, under the BJP government in Karnataka, two ministers were caught on camera allegedly watching a porn clip on a mobile phone in the state Assembly while proceedings were on.

Such incidents not only bring disrepute to lawmakers but also raise questions about their ability to fulfill their duties and responsibilities towards the public.

The recent incident in Tripura has once again highlighted the issue of lawmakers being distracted from their duties and indulging in activities that are not only inappropriate but also disrespectful to the sanctity of the Assembly.

Opposition leader demand action against MLA

Criticising the BJP MLA, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma said that all the legislators are responsible persons and their acts should not create a bad precedent for the others, especially the young generations. Debbarma demanded appropriate action against the legislator.

The CPI(M) and Congress also criticised Nath and demanded severe action against him

“Operation of mobile phones inside the Assembly is restricted. We should all concentrate on the proceedings and business of the House.. Despite this, Nath watched the porn video damaging the reputations of the House,” said Birajit Sinha, state Congress chief and one of the three party MLAs.

He said that if the BJP has minimum morality, it must take action against Nath.

Reacting to the viral video, BJP Tripura state President Rajib Bhattacharya told IANS that the party would soon issue a notice to him and seek clarification.

X-rated clip played at Patna railway station

In addition to lawmakers, other incidents of inappropriate content being displayed in public spaces have also been reported in recent times. In a recent incident at the Patna railway station, hundreds of passengers waiting to board trains were faced with an awkward situation when an x-rated clip played at all the TV screens installed across the 10 platforms for three minutes.

The contract for telecasting videos and films on the railway stations of the Danapur division is given to a private company. Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials immediately contacted them and stopped the telecast.

  • Suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh alleges terror plot to target him

Suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh alleges terror plot to target him

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Suspended BJP MLA T. Raja Singh has claimed that a terrorist outfit planned to target him during the Ram Navami procession in Hyderabad on Thursday.

He posted on social media a letter from a resident of the old city of Hyderabad to the commissioner of police claiming that a terrorist planned to hurl bombs at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, state BJP office and Ram Navami procession on March 31.

The letter, written by Uma Maheswari, alleged that the main target of the terrorist working for Bahrain-based Mukhtar Brigades is Raja Singh, a member of Telangana Legislative Assembly from Goshamahal constituency.

Raja Singh, who is scheduled to lead the procession, asked state home Minister Mahmood Ali, Director General of Police and Police Commissioner if they verified the claims made in the letter. “Update us abt this as Lakhs of Ram Bhakts joins this procession,” tweeted Raja Singh.

The controversial MLA had last month lodged a complaint with the police stating that he was receiving threatening calls from Pakistan-based phone numbers.

“I have been receiving threatening calls every day. I have given written complaints many times to the police department when the callers are aggressive and abusive but no action has been taken. Not even one person has been arrested who threatened me as of now,” he had said.

Following the MLA’s claims, police had assigned him a new bullet-resistant vehicle.

The MLA was arrested by the police in August last year for making certain comments hurting religious sentiments of Muslims. He was sent to jail on August 25 after the Hyderabad police commissioner had invoked PD Act. BJP had also suspended him from the party.

Raja Singh was released from jail on November 9, after spending two months in jail following his arrest under the Preventive Detention Act.

The Telangana High Court had set aside the police commissioner’s order and released the MLA on bail but directed him not to make any speech or comment which created hatred among communities.

Karnataka: Accused of bribery, BJP MLA held after court rejects bail

    [ad_1]

BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa has been arrested on Monday after his anticipatory bail was rejected by a court. He is the prime accused of the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents (KSDL) contract scam.

According to reports, the Lokayukta moved the court to cancel his bail alleging the MLA was not co-operating in the investigation.

Earlier this month, the Lokayukta police arrested BJP MLA’s son Prashanth Madal, who is the chief accounts officer of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, while allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 40 lakh on behalf of his father at the KSDL office. Virupakashappa resigned as the chairperson of KSDL following his son’s arrest.

The high court granted the anticipatory bail to the MLA after hearing his petition and directed him to appear before the investigating officer in the case within 48 hours of receiving the order copy. The high court also directed Virupakshappa not to tamper with the evidence while on bail.

  • Himanta writes to Shinde, seeks statement of regret from Maha MLA for ‘stray dog’ comment

Himanta writes to Shinde, seeks statement of regret from Maha MLA for ‘stray dog’ comment

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: Taking exception to Maharashtra MLA Bachchu Kadu’s purported proposal that stray dogs be sent to Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday wrote to his counterpart in the western state, seeking that the statement be withdrawn.

In the letter, which he tweeted, Sarma said he and the people of Assam were “dismayed” by the comment.

“Along with the people of Assam, I am extremely dismayed and agitated by the comments of the MLA, which has exposed his prejudices and ignorance about the culture of our state. I am sure that you will fully empathise with the sentiments of the people of Assam in this matter,” Sarma wrote.

The CM requested Shinde to advise Kadu to “withdraw the comments and ask him to make a press statement expressing regret”.

Kadu had reportedly proposed in the Maharashtra Assembly that stray dogs be sent to Assam to control their rising population, as they are consumed by locals in the northeastern state.

The issue had led to noisy scenes on the first day of the ongoing assembly session in Assam on March 10, with opposition MLAs disrupting the governor’s speech and staging a walkout.

Opposition AIUDF had demanded that Kadu be called to the house and made to apologise, while the Congress questioned the government’s “inaction” in the matter.

Independent legislator Akhil Gogoi said that the matter should have found a mention in the governor’s speech.

  • Will teach BJP lesson at appropriate time: BRS MLA on Kavitha’s questioning by ED

Will teach BJP lesson at appropriate time: BRS MLA on Kavitha’s questioning by ED

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: With Enforcement Directorate (ED) grilling Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Danam Nagender lashed out at Centre saying the BRS will teach Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a lesson at the appropriate time.

Speaking to ANI, Nagender said, “This is a clear-cut issue. The people are well aware of the vindictive activities of the BJP government. ED is acting as the mouthpiece of the BJP and central government. This is very unfair. She (Kavitha) categorically said yesterday that she is not involved in any of this and she is in no way connected with this liquor business.”

“If someone X, Y or Z mentioned her name, they (ED) cannot take it as a conspiracy. The important thing is that each time she has been requesting the ED to mention a certain time limit. In spite of it, even yesterday she came out around 10 pm. No one will spare (BJP) when a woman is being tortured like this. The BRS party will not step back and we are ready to face any consequences. We will definitely teach BJP a lesson at the appropriate time,” he added.

The ED on Tuesday questioned BRS MLC K Kavitha for over 10 hours in the national capital regarding her alleged role in the Delhi liquor policy case. It was the third day that Kavitha was questioned by the federal agency.

Kavitha said she submitted all the phones she has used so far as she went for the third round of questioning in the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case at the ED office in the national capital.

On Monday, Kavitha appeared before ED after the federal agency on March 16, issued a fresh summon to the BRS leader to join its ongoing investigation in the case.

The federal agency issued the fresh summons as Kavitha refused to attend the ED interrogation on Thursday citing a pending petition in the Supreme Court.

Kavitha did not appear for questioning conveying to the probe agency that the matter is still pending before the apex court.

According to sources, Kavitha has sent the necessary documents sought by the probe agency through her legal representative.

The ED had summoned her earlier this month to appear before it on Thursday in the Delhi excise scam, alleging that she was a key member of the south cartel.

The BRS leader had approached the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing claiming that as a woman, she cannot be summoned to the ED office, and the probe agency’s representatives must visit her instead.

On Wednesday the Supreme Court had agreed to hear her plea challenging the ED summons on March 24 but refused to grant her interim relief.

Over the course of its investigation, the ED has come to know that Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai is one of the key persons in the alleged scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and the formation of the biggest cartel of the South Group.

South Group comprises Telangana MLC Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others. The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, the federal agency investigation has revealed.

Pillai along with his associates was coordinating with various persons to execute the political understanding between the South Group and a leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Pillai has been an accomplice and was involved in the kickbacks from the South Group and the recoupment of the same from the businesses in Delhi, ED investigation revealed.

The ED had earlier said that the South Group gave kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders.

Pillai is learnt to be a partner of 32.5 per cent in Indo Spirits, which had got an L1 licence. Indo Spirits is a partnership firm of Arun (32.5 per cent), Prem Rahul (32.5 per cent) and Indospirit Distribution Limited (35 per cent), wherein Arun and Prem Rahul represented the benami investments of Kavitha and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and his son Raghava Magunta.

Pillai is a partner in Indo Spirits. In this partnership firm, Pillai represented the interests of Kavitha.

Kavitha, who is a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same case in December last year.

ED, last year filed its first chargesheet in the case. The agency said it has so far undertaken nearly 200 search operations in this case after filing FIR after taking cognisance of a CBI case which was registered on the recommendation of the Delhi lieutenant governor.

The CBI inquiry was recommended on the findings of the Delhi chief secretary’s report filed in July showing prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009, and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials had said.

In October, the ED had raided nearly three dozen locations in Delhi and Punjab following the arrest of Sameer Mahendru, Managing Director of Delhi’s Jor Bagh-based liquor distributor Indospirit Group, in the case and arrested him later. The CBI too filed its first charge sheet in the case early this week.

The ED and the CBI had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Excise Policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection.

As per the allegations, the Excise Department had decided to refund the Earnest Money Deposit of about Rs 30 crore to a successful tenderer against the set rules. Even though there was no enabling provision, a waiver on tendered licence fees was allowed from December 28, 2021, to January 27, 2022, due to Covid-19.

This allegedly caused a loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer, which has been instituted on a reference from the Union Home Ministry following a recommendation from Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
