The main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) clinched 111 seats, with its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal securing eight and the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party winning six seats. Meanwhile, the Congress and the Jansatta Dal Loktantrik each secured two seats, and the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party claimed one seat.

In his inaugural address as Speaker, Mahana expressed his commitment to upholding the democratic values and traditions of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, speaking on the occasion, described Mahana’s appointment as a great opportunity for the state’s legislative process.

MP: Bajrang Bali was tribal who protected Lord Ram, says Congress MLA

    [ad_1]

Seoni: A Congress MLA from Madhya Pradesh has claimed Bajrang Bali was a tribal forest dweller who protected Lord Ram.

The Congress legislator from Barghat constituency in Seoni district, Arjun Singh Kakodiya, also claimed there was no Ayodhya, Kshatriya or Brahmin sena (army) but it was the tribal community that helped Lord Ram (in his exile).

“Bajrang Bali was a tribal who lives in the forest. He protected Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram and helped him. There was no Ayodhya, Kshatriya or Brahmin sena but (it was) the tribal community (that) helped Lord Ram,” Kakodiya said while addressing a public meeting in the presence of MP Congress president Kamal Nath in Udepani village.

    MS Education Academy

He said the tribal community will not tolerate the insult of Bajrang Bali and those who are defaming his name.

Bajrang Bali, also called Hanuman, is a divine monkey companion of Lord Ram. He is one of the central characters of the epic Ramayana.

The Congress is facing backlash from BJP and right-wing organisations for bracketing Bajrang Dal with the Popular Front of India (PFI) in its manifesto for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls.

In the manifesto released last week for the polls, the Congress said it was committed to taking firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred amongst communities on grounds of caste and religion.

The mention of Bajrang Dal has evoked a strong reaction with BJP and right-wing organisations accusing Congress of playing appeasement politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chanted Jai Bajrang Bali’ during all three public meetings he addressed in poll-bound Karnataka on Wednesday.

“The Congress in its manifesto has decided to lock up Lord Hanuman. Initially, they locked up Prabhu Shri Ram (Lord Ram). And now they want to lock up people who say Jai Bajrang Bali’,” the PM told a public meeting at Hospet in Vijayanagara district on Tuesday.

BJP MLA defends ‘Visha Kanye’ jibe at Sonia in PM Modi’s presence

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Karnataka’s Vijayapura constituency Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Saturday defended his ‘Visha Kanye’ (poisonous woman) jibe at former Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a huge gathering in Vijayapura, Yatnal, who spoke ahead of PM Modi, also mentioned Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as the “first prime minister of the country”.

“Our Sanatan Dharm, our mother and our Bharat Mata are everything to us. We will not tolerate and can give our lives if anyone dares to talk against Bharat Mata. Along with this, if anyone speaks foul about our world leader Narendra Modi, we Indians would not tolerate that,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the opposition leaders, he said: “If you try to wag your dirty tongue, we will answer in the same pitch. Under the leadership of PM Modi, India has become a ‘Vishwa Guru’. He is a replica of our first Prime Minister Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and treading on the path of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri,” he said.

PM Modi, addressing the gathering, said the Congress is indulging in breaking of society, and that the party should never be pardoned.

“Jagajyothi Basaveshwar fought for equality. But, Congress leaders are indulging in divisive acts. Quoting Rastra Kavi Kuvempu (revered by the Vokkaliga community as their iconic figure, he maintained that Kuvempu described Karnataka as a garden of all sects of people and underlined that the communities in society must have mutual respect for each other.

“On May 10, you will vote to make Karnataka the number one state in the country. On May 10 you will vote to bring a double engine government to power,” PM Modi stated.

“I am a servant of Karnataka and want to do everything for the state. For me, Karnataka is an important state. I need your blessings. The new team has been made ready to play an important role in Amrit Kaal. It is a mixture of new spirit and old roots. The strong team is ready. This team also needs your support,” PM Modi said.

He further said that the coalition government would only be bothered about its survival.

“Political instability has cost the state a lot. Whoever works for the poor, Dalit, backwards and Adivasis, Congress will start hating them. They had used words like ‘desh drohi’, ‘kathputli’ and all the words in the dictionary against B.R. Ambedkar. The party was the same in the old days, and it remains the same even today,” PM Modi added.

Dalai Lama incident: Congress MLA suggests Chinese hand

    [ad_1]

Shimla: Amid a controversy over a video clip purportedly showing the Dalai Lama asking a boy to “suck” his tongue, Himachal Pradesh Congress MLA Ravi Thakur on Saturday suggested the hand of China in it to defame the Tibetan spiritual head.

Thakur, the MLA from the Lahaul and Spiti district, also expressed solidarity with the Buddhist community protesting against what they called a “malicious propaganda” against the Dalai Lama.

Speaking to reporters, the MLA said the Dalai Lama is a respected Buddhist leader and removing him from the scene would help China to take full control over Tibet.

    MS Education Academy

He also blamed television news channels for exploiting the “unfortunate” incident to garner viewership.

On April 10 last, the Dalai Lama apologised to a boy, his family and friends for the “hurt his words may have caused”, after a video clip purportedly showing the Tibetan spiritual head asking him to suck his tongue sparked a row.

In the two-minute-five-second video, the Dalai Lama also asked the child “to look at those good human beings who create peace, and happiness and not follow those who kill other people”.

In a statement, the Tibetan spiritual head’s office said, “A video clip has been circulating that shows a recent meeting when a young boy asked His Holiness the Dalai Lama if he could give him a hug. His Holiness wishes to apologise to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused.”

Meanwhile, several social and religious organisations issued a joint statement on Saturday saying that Dalia Lama has solely dedicated his life to serve the humanity and global community.

In the Tibetan tradition, “eat my tongue” is a phrase used particularly by grandparents especially if the child asks for candy which grandparents don’t have, the statement said, and added that defaming the Dalai Lama is undeniably a part of Chinese propaganda.

“Dalai Lama is a global icon of peace, a Nobel laureate. He is an embodiment of compassion and a beacon of hope, love and compassion and has been selflessly and tirelessly promoting religious harmony and peace,” according to the statement.

A playful interaction between the Dalai Lama and a boy, a genuine affection and playful moment have been ruined beyond imagination, the statement added.

‘Indian Muslims won’t be scared..’: AIMIM MLA on Atiq’s killing

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA from Maharashtra’s Malegaon, Mufti Mohammad Ismail A Khalique on Saturday remarked that only ‘madmen’ assume that the Muslims of India will be scared by killing a couple of individuals.

Talking to the media he said that the present-day situations in Uttar Pradesh (UP) are well known to everyone and there is no need to define them referring to the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed in Prayagraj.

Mufti said that people are taking the law into their hands. “We are not advocating for any criminal, but punish them within the purview of the law,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

He said that taking decisions that sideline the law could be said that it’s a ‘dictatorship’. He said that the UP government is trying to walk the same path as Hitler.

“This is not right for you and the country. If you think that by killing 2-4 people, you will scare all the Muslims of India, this is the dream of a madman. It will never happen.”

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on April 16 said it was necessary to prevent radicalization, adding that he was not afraid to visit Uttar Pradesh.

“I am ready to die… Radicalization needs to be stopped. I will surely visit Uttar Pradesh, I am not scared. Jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya (why fear death when you are loved),” he added.

  • Anti-CAA stir: SC refuses to discharge Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi in NIA case

Anti-CAA stir: SC refuses to discharge Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi in NIA case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld an order of the Gauhati High Court which had set aside the discharge of independent Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi in connection with a case related to anti-CAA protests and suspected Maoist links.

Allowing an appeal filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the high court had remanded the matter back to the trial court to conduct a fresh hearing on the question of framing of charge against all the four accused persons including Gogoi.

A top court bench of justices V Ramasubramanian and Pankaj Mithal confirmed the high court order in “all respects”.

    MS Education Academy

The top court, however, granted bail to Gogoi pending trial while noting that he has suffered incarceration for about 567 days.

“He has been out as a free man for the past more than 21 months. It is important to note that his freedom was secured not by an order of bail, but by an order of discharge passed by the special court, which has now been reversed by the high court.

“Nothing has been brought on record to show that during this period of 21 months, when the petitioner has been a free man, he has indulged in any unlawful activity,” it said.

On the contrary, the petitioner got elected to the legislative assembly in 2021 and he is now a sitting member of the assembly, the apex court said.

It said except in cases of preventive detention, the purpose of detaining a person in police/judicial custody, is either to facilitate fair and proper investigation or as a measure of penalty after conviction.

“In this case, (i) the investigation is over and (ii) the petitioner is not yet a convicted criminal. Therefore, we do not think that any purpose will be served in allowing the Special Court to remand him to custody and then enabling him to move an application for bail.

“In fact, the offences under the Indian Penal Code alleged against the petitioner are punishable only with imprisonment for a period of up to 3 years. It is only the offences alleged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, which are punishable with larger terms of imprisonment,” it said.

The bench said if the offences under the IPC alone are taken into account, the petitioner has served, as an undertrial prisoner, more than half of the maximum period prescribed under the relevant provisions.

“Therefore, this is not a case where the petitioner should be allowed to be detained in custody, especially after having secured an order of discharge, rightly or wrongly,” it said.

The lawmaker, who has allegedly been vocal against the central government during the anti-CAA protests, had moved the top court against the February 9 order of the high court allowing the special NIA court in Assam to proceed with the framing of charges against him in one of the two cases.

Earlier, the high court had permitted the NIA to seek framing of charges in the special court against Gogoi and three of his associates in connection with anti-CAA protests and suspected Maoist links.

The high court’s order had come on an appeal of the NIA challenging the order of a special NIA court giving clean chit to the four.

The high court had asked the agency to go ahead with framing charges after reopening the case.

The MLA has come to the apex court against the order.

The other three accused were Dhaijya Konwar, Bittu Sonowal and Manash Konwar, all of whom got bail in the NIA case and were released from jail.

Gogoi was the only one whose bail was rejected by the court and he was released after spending 567 days in jail once Special NIA Judge Pranjal Das cleared him along with the three others of all charges.

The NIA is investigating two cases against Gogoi related to anti-CAA protests. In one of those, the special NIA court had granted him bail, which was upheld by the Gauhati High Court too in April 2021 after the probe agency challenged it.

The RTI activist continued to be in judicial custody as he was rejected bail in the second case related to anti-CAA violence and was being investigated by the NIA.

Later, the special NIA court on July 1, 2021 released Gogoi and his three associates for their alleged role in the violent anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act stir in the state in December 2019 and observed there was nothing to indicate that the “talk of blockade” threatened the country’s economic security or was “a terrorist act”.

The NIA then moved the Gauhati High Court appealing it to allow the agency to frame charges under various sections, including sedition, of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
