Hyderabad: Mir Alam Tank musical fountain worth Rs 2.5 cr lies ignored

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Musical fountain at the Mir Alam Tank, developed at the cost of Rs 2.55 crores has nearly submerged in the stinky water while it remains completely ignored by the development authorities of the state.

The 40-metre-long and 9-metre-wide fountain structure was set up on the very facet of the Mir Alam Lake, between Tadban to Aramghar roads.

Equipped with music and multimedia effects, the fountain was launched by the Telangana municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao, in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and home minister Mahmood Ali on April 19, 2022.

However, the fountain worked for no more than two days and had since remained nonfunctional with overgrown bushes drowning the project into a costly dismay.

Developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the fountain was inaugurated to fascinate its viewers but the set-up ended up submerged into the water, hidden by water hyacinth with only steel poles set to fence the area left behind as its remains.

Speaking to The Siasat Daily, Ramanthapur corporator Yousuf Danish points out the fact that the fountain never was lit up more than two days post-inauguration.

Pointing to the encroachments around the tank, Yousuf says that no measures have been taken by the state government to safeguard its investment.

Back then, authorities laid a separate drainage line to divert the sewerage water from the colonies of Hassannagar and surroundings into Musi. However, it seems like the pollution control measure haven’t worked out.

Though the Telangana government have taken up the task of beautification around the lake, maintenance with regular checks is essential.

Hyderabad: The birth anniversary of the last and the richest Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, was observed on Thursday. Relatives, historians, and others visited Masjid-e-Judi at King Kothi to offer floral tributes.

On the occasion of his birth anniversary, Mir Najaf Ali Khan, the grandson of Mir Osman Ali Khan, urged the state government to declare a holiday.

    Richest Nizam of Hyderabad

Mir Osman Ali Khan who ruled the largest princely state in British India from 1911 to 1948 was one of the richest persons in the world, with a net worth of USD 236 billion (adjusted for inflation).

Mir Osman Ali Khan’s wealth can be gauged by the fact that he used the rare Jacob diamond, a 185-carat lime-sized gem, as a paperweight and owned the Golconda Diamond Mines, which was a significant source of his wealth. He also owned 50 Rolls-Royce cars. In 1937, TIME magazine referred to him as the ‘richest man on the planet.’

    Architect of modern Hyderabad

Mir Osman Ali Khan was not just known for his wealth but was also a good administrator. He is called the ‘Architect of modern Hyderabad’ for his contribution to the development of the city.

He established Osmania University in 1918, introduced electricity, developed railways, roads, and airports, and established many institutions, including Osmania General Hospital, State Bank of Hyderabad, Begumpet Airport, and Hyderabad High Court. To prevent Hyderabad from floods, he built Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar and also built the Nizam Sagar Dam.

Even after the merger of Hyderabad into India, he was made Rajpramukh of Hyderabad. He served the Hyderabad State between 1950 and 1956 as Rajpramukh.

He passed away at the age of 80 years on February 24, 1967, and was laid to rest at Masjid-e-Judi at King Kothi.

  • Son of martyred PM called ‘Mir Jafar’, hurled insults but Rahul won’t bow down: Priyanka

Son of martyred PM called ‘Mir Jafar’, hurled insults but Rahul won’t bow down: Priyanka

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In a blistering attack on the BJP, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said Rahul Gandhi, the son of a martyred prime minister, was called ‘Mir Jafar’ and insults were hurled at his family but he would not bow down as he belongs to a family whose members have nurtured democracy by their blood.

Her attack came after the former Congress president and her brother was disqualified from Lok Sabha, a day after he was convicted by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case Thursday.

In a series of tweets, Priyanka Gandhi launched an all-out attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying in a tweet in Hindi, “Narendra Modi ji, your sycophants called the son of a martyred prime Minister a traitor, Mir Jafar. One of your Chief Minister raised questions as to who is the father of Rahul Gandhi? Following the custom of Kashmiri Pandits, a son wears ‘pagdi’ after his father’s death, maintaining his family’s tradition.” “Insulting the whole family and the Kashmiri Pandit community, you asked in Parliament why we don’t keep the name Nehru. But no judge gave you a sentence of two years. Did not disqualify you from the Parliament,” she said.

Stepping up its attack on Rahul Gandhi over his democracy in danger remark in London, the BJP had on Tuesday dubbed him as the “present-day Mir Jafar of Indian polity” who went overseas seeking help from foreign forces to become a ‘nawab’ in India.

The Congress general secretary said Gandhi is a “true patriot” and has questioned Adani Group’s loot, raised questions on Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

“…You call my family dynasty, do note that this family has nurtured India’s democracy with their blood,” she said.

This family raised the voice of the people of India and fought for the truth for generations, she said.

Later, speaking with reporters after attending a meeting at the AICC headquarters here, she said, “Be it the BJP spokespersons, ministers, MPs ministers or the PM himself, they keep criticising my family, Rahul ji, Indira ji, my mother, Nehru ji and use abusive language, everyone knows this, but he has not been handed down a two-year sentence or disqualified them.” “My brother raised the issue of Adani and that is why all this is happening. There was a stay on the (defamation) case and after my brother made that speech in Parliament about Adani why was the case suddenly revived,” she said.

This government does not want to answer on Adani issue and that is why all this planning has been done, she alleged and added that the Congress will keep fighting and will not be afraid.

The court in Surat sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in the defamation case, filed on a complaint by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi for his alleged remark, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?” Hitting out at the government over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha, the Congress said it was “a black day for Indian democracy” and asserted that the battle will be fought both “legally and politically”.

Sambit Patra calls Rahul Gandhi present-day Mir Jafar of Indian politics

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Tuesday called Congress leader Rahul Gandhi present-day Mir Jafar of Indian politics and sought an apology over the latter’s speech in the UK.

Addressing a press conference, Patra said, “Rahul will have to apologise, we will keep raising voice for it.”

Sambit Patra said, “Rahul Gandhi is the Mir Jafar of today’s politics. What Mir Jafar did to become Nawab and what Rahul Gandhi has done in London – is exactly the same. The prince wants to become the Nawab for which he is seeking help from foreign powers.”

Patra said, “Rahul insulted the country and sought foreign intervention. We believe that this is not an issue, but a conspiracy. Rahul will have to apologise. Rahul cannot do away without apologising. He had to apologise in the Rafale case, and he will have to apologise in Parliament for his remarks in Cambridge.”]

Rahul, while in his address in London recently, said, “Everybody knows and it’s been in the news a lot that Indian democracy is under pressure and under attack. I am an Opposition leader in India, we are navigating that (Opposition) space. The institutional framework which is required for a democratic Parliament, free press, the judiciary, just the idea of mobilisation, moving around all are getting constrained. So, we are facing an attack on the basic structure of Indian democracy.”

  • Hyderabad: Photos of fruits, water bottles at Mir Ka Daira go viral

Hyderabad: Photos of fruits, water bottles at Mir Ka Daira go viral

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A picture of mineral water bottles and fruits placed on a well-lit grave at the historic Mir Ka Daira in the Old City here is going viral on social media platforms, evoking curiosity as well unwarranted and derogatory comments from the general public.

Our reporter, after getting the photograph verified, it found that the picture was taken on Tuesday evening during Shab-e-Baraat. The picture was taken at Daira Mir Momin, named after Hyderabad’s founding prime minister in the 16th century, located at Sultan Shahi in the Old City of Hyderabad.

In the picture, one can see a man and a child standing near a grave on which a variety of fruits are neatly placed. One can also notice flowers that are laid on the grave at Daira Mir Momin.

When contacted, a member of the Daira Mir Momin graveyard committee, on condition of anonymity, stated that the grave actually belongs to the Iranian Shia community that settled in Hyderabad historically. “One of their relatives had passed away and was laid to rest in the graveyard. Every year the family members or relatives come and arrange fruits on the grave. After prayers and other rituals, they distribute the fruit and water bottles to the poor people and go away,” he told Siasat.com.

Another leader of the Shia community said it is a practice of a few families. “Not on all graves do we find bottles or fruits. It is restricted to two to three graves only in the entire graveyard where there are close to 500 graves,” he said. There are many graves of Iranian Shia Muslims at the Daira Mir Momin graveyard.

The graveyard is named after Mir Momin Astrabadi, the founding prime minister and architect of Hyderabad, who designed the city during the reign of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fourth king of the Golconda dynasty (1518-1687). It is believed ge is buried in the current spot as it is also the resting place of Shah Chirag, a sufi saint who was buried there much earlier.

Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah built Hyderabad after he decided to move outside the Golconda fort in 1591, which functioned as a walled-city before that.

The Golconda Fort’s origins are traced back to the 14th century when the Rajah of Warangal Deo Rai (under the Kakatiya Kingdom which ruled from Warangal) built a mud fort, which was later taken over the Bahamani empire between 1358-75). It was later developed into a full-fledged citadel by Sultan Quli Qutb Shah, who founded the Qutb Shahi (or Golconda) kingdom in 1518, when the last sovereign Bahamani emperor Mahmud Shah Bahamani died.

Earlier, Sultan Quli was a commander and later governor of Tilang (Telangana), under the Bahamani empire (1347-1518), when its second capital was at Bidar. Sultan Quli, who was originally from Hamadan, rose to the level of Governor under the Bahamani empire. At this point of time he was given the fort, which he began developing into a walled-city. It eventually came to called Golconda Fort (name derived from Golla-conda, or shepherds hill).
