PU principal arrested for raping, killing minor in Karnataka

Raichur: A Pre-University (PU) principal was arrested for allegedly raping and killing a 17-year-old student in Lingasugur town of Karnataka’s Raichur district, police said on Wednesday.
Ramesh, the Principal of Sir M. Visvesvaraya Pre-University sexually harassed the girl, killed her and later, got her hanged at a hostel, parents of the victim alleged.
Ramesh, who was absconding after the incident, was arrested from Bijapur.
The incident occurred at the hostel run by the VCB education institution.
The girl, a student of first PU (class 11), was found dead on February 10 night. When the victim’s parents reached the hostel after getting information, her friends alleged that Ramesh used to repeatedly call her to his room and sexually harass her.
After that, parents and relatives of the victim protested before the college.

Forceful removal of innerwear of minor girls equivalent to rape: Calcutta HC

Kolkata: Forceful removal of the innerwear of a minor girl is equivalent to rape even if rape, as per medical terms, has not been done by the accused or convict, the Calcutta High Court has held.
A single judge bench of Justice Ananya Bandopadhyay made this ruling while hearing a case in which Robi Roy was declared as guilty by a lower court in Dinajpur district in 2008.
On May 7, 2007, Roy was acccused of alluring a minor girl in his locality to a secluded place after promising her an ice cream. There he first asked her to remove her innerwear. When the victim refused, he forcefully removed her innerwear.
The victim started shouting which caught the attention of the people residing nearby, who rushed to spot, assaulted Robi Roy and handed him over to the local police. In November 2008, a trial court, finding him guilty, sentenced him to imprisonment for five and a half years and also slapped a Rs 3,000 fine on him.
After being freed from jail, he challenged the order of the lower district court at the Calcutta High Court claiming that he was falsely implicated which caused loss of his social prestige. He claimed that his intention was to express his fatherly affection towards the victim.
Justice Bandopadhyay, however, upheld the order of the lower court and observed that the intention of alluring the victim with ice-cream had mal-intention.
“The victim was allured with ice-cream by the convict just to satisfy his sexual desires. When the victim refused to open her innerwear as asked by the convict, he forcefully removed that. This cannot be treated as an expression of affection. This is equivalent to rape or attempt to rape,” Justice Bandopadhyay observed.
Although medical examination proved that that the minor girl was not a victim of rape, the judge observed that the entire incident is similar to rape of sexual offense under Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code.

Hyderabad: Man arrested for asking minor girl for nude video calls

Hyderabad: A 27 year old man from Andhra Pradesh was arrested by the cyber crimes station (CCS) for harassing a minor girl online.
The victim, a minor, resides under the Rachakonda commissionerate limits and was blackmailed by the accused. The accused hacked into the victim’s Instagram handle. He then threatened to circulate her morphed pictures if she refused to make nude video calls to her.
The accused completed B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) from Andhra Pradesh. He has been addicted to watching porn learned to hack social media accounts through a video on the internet. He created social media profiles with fake names to befriend various girls.
When the victim accepted his request on Instagram, he sent her a phishing link to her. The victim unaware of the link, opened it and entered her details. Then the accused captured her Instagram password and downloaded her photos from her profile.
He also posted vulgar comments on her photos and changed her Instagram status to portray her as a ‘call girl’, When she contacted him from one of her friends profile, the accused threatened her to make nude video calls. When a case was filed against him, he burned his mobile phone and SIM cards and absconded for 18 months.
Based on the report of victim, a case was registered, during the course of investigation basing on the technical evidence a special team apprehended the accused at Ibrahimpatnam Mandal of NTR District, Andhra Pradesh and is being produced before the court for judicial custody.

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday ordered transfers and postings of four officers.
According to Government Order No.129-JK(GAD) of 2023,issued by the General Administration Department (GAD,Sajid Yehaya Naqash, JKAS, Regional Transport officer, Kashmir, is transferred and shall await further orders of adjustment in the General Administration Department.
Syed Shahnawaz, JKAS, Assistant Commissioner, State Taxes, Enforcement (North), Baramulla, Kashmir, is transferred and posted as Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir.

Srinagar, January 22: A civilian suffered minor injuries in a grenade attack in Eidgah area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district this evening.
In a tweet Srinagar police wrote, “One grenade was lobbed by militants in Eidgah area which caused minor splinter injury to one person namely Ajaz Ahmed Deva S/o Abdul Rasheed Deva aged 32 years R/o Sangam, Srinagar.
