    Chief Secretary Calls For Third-Party Audit Of JK Minerals To Boost Its Performance, Generate Employment

    SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta while chairing the 175th board meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Ltd, emphasised over the need for a third-party audit to evaluate the performance of the corporation’s mines.

    He stated that the audit would assess whether the mines are operating at their optimal condition and determine if there is potential to generate more employment within these mining facilities.

    Dr Mehta also called for the development of a mining plan, with expert consultation, to increase the output of the Kalakote coal mines.

    The Chief Secretary urged upon the Corporation that all of their activities should aim at boosting the economy of Jammu & Kashmir. He commended the corporation’s financial records over the past three years and suggested holding quarterly meetings for better coordination and implementation of decisions.

    During the meeting, the Board unanimously agreed that in order to avail the funding under NMET (National Mineral Exploration Trust), J&K Minerals Limited shall surrender the Lease Hold Rights of Sapphire Mine so that Ministry of Mines can take up the work.

    Furthermore, the Board approved e-Auction of rough sapphire to promote transparency.

    The Board members in attendance included Secretary Planning Development & Monitoring, Dr Raghav Langer; Secretary Mining, Amit Sharma; Director, Geology & Mining, OP Bhagat; Managing Director, JKML, Vikram Gupta; DG Codes, SL Pandita besides officers from other concerned Departments

    Kulgam, Mar 19: Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday seized 9 vehicles involved in illegal excavation and transportation of minerals in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

    In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said during naka checking police seized 9 Vehicles loaded with illegal sand and bolders at Khudwani bypass and also arrested 9 persons.

    The statement reads a c FIR No. 17/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh and investigation is in progress.

    It reads persons are involved in this illegal practice must refrain from it, otherwise strict action under law will be initiated against them—(KNO)

  • Board of Directors JK Minerals Ltd Reconstituted

    SRINAGAR: The government on Monday reconstituted the Board of Directors of the Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Limited  with Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary of J&K as its Chairman.

    “In supersession of all pervious orders on the subject and in terms of Article 66(3) of the Memorandum and Article of Association of the Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Limited, the Board of Directors of the Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Limited is hereby reconstituted,” the government said in an order.

    The five directors in the reconstituted board are Dr Raghav Langer (IAS), Secretary to the Government, Planning, Development and Monitoring Department, Amit Sharma, IAS, Secretary to the Government, Mining Department,  Nitu Gupta, JKAS, Secretary in the Finance Department, O.P. Bhagat, JKAS, Geology and Mining, JK , and Vikram Gupta Managing Director, Jammu and Kashmir Mineral Limited. (GNS)

    Vedanta emerges preferred bidder for minerals block in Chattisgarh

    New Delhi: Vedanta Ltd on Thursday said it has been declared as the preferred bidder for nickel, chromium and associated platinum group elements block in Chhattisgarh.

    In October last year, the Chhattisgarh government had conducted an auction for grant of composite license for the said block.

    Under the composite licence (prospective-cum-mining), preliminary exploration of the areas is done but further exploration is required by mining companies.

    “The company had submitted its bid in electronic auction for grant of composite license.

    “As per the notice dated February 3, 2023 (formally received in the office on February 14, 2023) issued by the Mineral Resource Department, Chhattisgarh, the company has been declared as the ‘Preferred Bidder’ in respect of e-auction of Kelwardabri Ni, Cr and Associated PGE Block based on highest final price offer of 4.15 per cent submitted by the company,” Vedanta said in a filing to BSE.

    The grant of composite license in respect of the block will be subject to making of necessary payments and getting necessary clearances.

    Vedanta Ltd, a subsidiary of Vedanta, is a diversified global natural resources company.
