Hyderabad: Telangana health and family welfare minister T Harish Rao on Monday presided over a meeting on road safety measures to be taken up in Siddipet district. Siddipet commissioner of police Sweta presented a comparative analysis on road accidents in Siddipet district as part of the meeting.
Harish Rai directed health department officials to study the Tamil Nadu model which he said significantly helped in reducing the fatalities on roads.
The Telangana health minister stated that signages and speed breakers should be put in place on accident prone areas on the Siddipet – Hyderabad road. Harish Rao asked the officials to notify hospitals in government and private sectors as designated trauma care centres and also directed officials to upload them in the state’s portal.
Officials from the Roads and Buildings department were also asked to develop service roads and take up illumination of islands on the Gajwel Outer ring Road. Officers briefed Harish Rao about the various black spots identified in the district and the measures taken to prevent accidents in these areas, said a press release from his office.
A state level committee on the road safety committee has been constituted and similar committees are also functioning at the district level which meet regularly to chalk out an action plan to prevent accidents, the release added.

Hyderabad: Discussing the Union Budget 2023, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday slammed Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) for calling the Centre’s vision of a 5 trillion dollar economy, a joke.
She further took a jab at the state’s economy and said that Telangana’s debt has mounted significantly in the last 7-8 years.
Speaking at the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Sunday, KCR had said that the target of a 5 trillion size economy was a ‘joke’ and a very low target. He had also said that while PM Modi won in the parliamentary elections of 2014, the country lost.
“Ex-PM Manmohan Singh worked hard and spoke less, it’s the opposite case with the current Prime Minister,” the Telangana CM had said.
Responding to his comments on the economy, Sitharaman said “CM garu don’t joke and let’s all speak about it (the Budget) with responsibility.”
“How can you tell that aim of 5 trillion economy is a joke? Every state should contribute towards it. Who are you laughing upon, the people? In 2014, debt of Telangana was Rs 60,000 crores, but in the last 7-8 years it has crossed Rs.3 lakh crores,” she added.
Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday accused Karnataka Minister C N Ashwath Narayan of trying to ‘instigate’ people to kill him as he took exception to the latter’s statement that he should be “knocked out and sent off” like the 18th-century ruler of erstwhile Mysuru Kingdom, Tipu Sultan.
He urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to immediately initiate action against Narayan by sacking him from the cabinet. The Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly was referring to Narayan’s recent remark in Mandya while targeting him.
“Tipu’s son Siddaramaiah will come…. Do you want Tipu or Savarkar? Where should we send Tipu Sultan? What did Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda do? In the same way, he should be knocked out and sent off,” Narayan had said.
A section in the old Mysuru belt claims that Tipu did not die fighting the British, but was killed by two Vokkaliga chieftains Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda, which has been disputed by some historians.
Narayan on his part said, his statement was not personally directed at Siddaramaiah and in case the Congress legislature party leader is hurt, he will express regret.
He also clarified that he only meant defeating electorally and not causing any physical harm, as being misinterpreted.
“Higher Education Minister Ashwath Narayan has appealed to people to kill me the way Tipu was killed. Ashwath Narayan, Why are you trying to instigate people? Get the gun yourself,” Siddaramaiah said.
I am not surprised by @drashwathcn‘s call to kill me. How can we expect love & friendship from the leaders of the party that worships the murderer of Mahatma Gandhi?
Expressing surprise that no action has been taken against the minister who has openly appealed people to kill, the former CM in a series of tweets said this shows that Bommai, Home minister Araga Jnanendra and their “incompetent cabinet is sleeping and is in agreement with Ashwath Narayan”.
Has Gujarat BJP culture crept into Karnataka BJP as well? he asked while seeking to know whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remain silent even now just as he was in 2002 (Gujarat riots).
Has Gujarat BJP culture crept into Karnataka BJP as well?
Will @narendramodi be silent even now just like he how he was silent in 2002?
Kannadigas will never let Karnataka to become like Gujarat.
“Kannadigas will never let Karnataka to become like Gujarat.”
Urging Bommai to immediately sack Narayan from the cabinet and arrest him, Siddaramaiah said, “If no action is taken, it only means that BJP is in agreement with the appeal or they think Ashwath Narayan has become ‘Mentally Unstable”.
With his statement snowballing into a controversy, eliciting sharp reaction from opposition party leaders, especially the Congress, Narayan said attempts are being made to present his statement by misinterpreting it.
“People will not accept such things. He (Siddaramaiah) is the one who compared the Chief Minister to a puppy, called state BJP President a joker, Prime Minister Modi as narahanthaka (mass murderer) I have never tried to divide the society like him in the name of religion and caste. I only meant defeating him in the election through votes and not personal comment or causing any harm to him physically,” he added.
Addressing reporters in Hubballi, Siddaramaiah said, “Narayan has no business to continue as a Minister, I request the Governor to dismiss him from the cabinet.”
He was responding to a query regarding Narayan’s regret.
Claiming that the intention is to polarise votes as they (BJP) fear losing election, Siddaramaiah said, “I will not file any complaint, but it is a fit case in which police have to take suo moto action against Ashwath Narayan.”
Karnataka Minister for Law J.C. Madhuswamy (Photo: IANS)
Bengaluru: In the wake of an objectionable play in a private deemed-to-be-university in the city recently, the Karnataka government on Wednesday said it will not tolerate any insult to the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar.
During zero hour in the Karnataka Assembly, JD(S) legislator Dr K Annadani raised the issue of the play allegedly demeaning Dr Ambedkar.
“The government has taken action by arresting some people. Such an insult to Ambedkar is unacceptable. Remove the ‘deemed university’ status and withdraw all the facilities given to the educational institution,” Annadani said and trooped to the well of the House.
Replying to him, the state Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said, “the government is not in a position to tolerate it. If the management’s role is found then certainly action will be taken,” Madhuswamy said.
On repeated insistence seeking removal of deemed-to-be-university status, Madhuswamy said the government will not yield to whatever was asked for in the House.
Annadani alleged the professor and the dean of the university must be held accountable as they knew about the play when the rehearsal was happening.
The skit that was performed by the students of the Jain (Deemed-to-be) university at a college festival recently, purportedly contained offensive references mocking Dr Ambedkar and Dalits, the portion of which was widely shared on social media. Nine persons including seven students have been arrested in this connection.

New Delhi: Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday sought to support the views of a retired high court judge, who said the Supreme Court “hijacked” the Constitution by deciding to appoint judges itself.
The government and the judiciary have been at loggerheads over the process of appointment of judges to the higher judiciary,
Rijiju shared the video of an interview of Justice R S Sodhi (retd), a former judge of the Delhi Court, saying it is “voice of a judge” and that majority of people have similar “sane views”.
Justice Sodhi said the right to frame laws lies with Parliament.
The law minister also said that “actually majority of the people have similar sane views. It’s only those people who disregard the provisions of the Constitution and mandate of the people think that they are above the Constitution of India.”

‘Collegium system perfectly balanced’: Ex-CJI Lalit counters Union law min
“Real beauty of Indian Democracy is its success. People rule themselves through their representatives.Elected representatives represent the interests of the People & make laws. Our Judiciary is independent and our Constitution is Supreme,” the minister tweeted.
In the interview, Justice Sodhi also said the apex court cannot frame laws as it does not have the right to do so. The right to frame laws belongs to Parliament, he said.
“… Whether you can amend the Constitution? Only Parliament will amend Constitution. But here I feel the Supreme Court for the first time ‘hijacked’ the Constitution. After ‘hijacking’ they (SC) said that we will appoint (judges) ourselves and the government will have no role in it,” Justice Sodhi said in Hindi.
The appointment of judges to the Supreme Court and the high courts has become a major flashpoint between the Executive and the Judiciary.
While Rijiju has described the collegium system to appoint judges as something “alien” to the Indian Constitution, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has questioned the top court for striking down the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act (NJAC)and a related constitution amendment.
Also the chairman of Rajya Sabha, Dhankar had said a law passed by Parliament, which reflects the will of the people, was “undone” by the Supreme Court and “the world does not know of any such instance”.
By bringing the NJAC law, the government had sought to overturn the collegium system which came into being in 1992.
The apex court has questioned the government for delay in clearing the appointments of Supreme Court and High Court judges.
Last week, the Supreme Court collegium had for the second time reiterated the names of two advocates for appointment as judges of the Calcutta High Court “expeditiously”, saying it was not open for the government to repeatedly send back the same proposal.
