Israel min cuts India visit short, to return after meeting PM

New Delhi: Within hours of his arrival in New Delhi for a three-day visit, Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen has cut short his visit to return home owing to certain security-related developments in that country.

Official sources said that Cohen is expected to return later on Tuesday after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Cohen informed about his change of plans in a tweet.

    MS Education Academy

Cohen had arrived earlier on Tuesday for a three-day day visit. His visit was being seen as preparing the groundwork for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to India later this year.

“Foreign Minister Eli Cohen landed a short while ago in New Delhi, the capital of India, and as soon as he landed he received a security update,” the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement.

“In light of the events in Israel, Foreign Minister Cohen decided to cut short his diplomatic visit to India and return to Israel after the meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that will take place today,” it said further.

According to reports from Tel Aviv, Israel has launched a major military offensive targetting some militants in Gaza Strip.

Bilawal Bhutto arrives in Goa; first Pak foreign min to visit India in 12 yrs

    [ad_1]

Benaulim: Pakistan’s foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari arrived in Goa on Thursday to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), becoming the first senior leader from the neighbouring country to visit India in almost 12 years.

Bhutto-Zardari’s visit to India to attend the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting comes amid continuing strain in ties between the two countries on a host of issues including Islamabad’s use of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pakistan foreign minister was received at the airport in Goa by JP Singh, the joint secretary heading the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division at the external affairs ministry.

    MS Education Academy

In 2011, Pakistan’s the then foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar visited India and held talks with her the then counterpart SM Krishna.

“I am very happy to reach Goa to lead the Pakistani delegation at the SCO Foreign Ministers meeting. I expect the SCO CFM meeting to be successful,” Bhutto-Zardari told reporters.

Though there was a buzz in the media about Bhutto-Zardari’s two-day visit to Goa, both the Indian and the Pakistani side appeared to keep each other at arm’s length.

People familiar with official engagements on the sidelines of the SCO conclave said there is no plan for a bilateral meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Bhutto-Zardari so far as there was no request for it from the Pakistani side.

In a tweet with a caption ‘Salaam, from Goa India’, Bhutto-Zardari said: “Assalamualaikum, we have reached Goa for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet.”

“I will first hold a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister. Then, will hold a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister. I will attend the dinner hosted for all the foreign ministers…,” he said in a short video.

Before leaving for Goa, the Pakistani foreign minister said, “My decision to attend this meeting illustrates Pakistan’s strong commitment to the charter of the SCO.”

“During my visit, which is focused exclusively on the SCO, I look forward to constructive discussions with my counterparts from friendly countries,” he said.

The Pakistan foreign minister’s visit to India is the first such trip from Islamabad since 2011 as Khar visited New Delhi that year. She is currently serving as the minister of state for foreign affairs.

In May 2014, former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited India to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

In December 2015, former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited Pakistan, and days later Modi made a brief visit to that country.

The invitation to the Pakistan foreign minister to attend the SCO meeting was sent in January, days after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered to hold bilateral talks between India and Pakistan.

In an interview with UAE-based Al Arabiya news channel, Sharif had said Pakistan has learnt its lesson after three wars with India and now it wants to live in peace with India, if “we are able to resolve our genuine problems.”

However, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office later said negotiations are not possible without India revoking its 2019 actions on Kashmir.

India has been maintaining that it desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan while insisting that the onus is on Islamabad to create an environment free of terror and hostility for such an engagement.

The ties between India and Pakistan came under severe strain after India’s warplanes pounded a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Balakot in Pakistan in February 2019 in response to the Pulwama terror attack.

The relations further deteriorated after India in August 2019 announced the withdrawal of special powers of Jammu and Kashmir and the bifurcation of the state into two union territories.

In a related development, Pakistan PM Sharif said his country’s decision to attend the SCO foreign meeting in India reflects its “commitment” to the SCO Charter and multilateralism as he asserted that his country was committed to playing its part to advance its shared values of peace and stability in the region.

“We are committed to playing our part to advance our shared values of peace and stability in the region. We are all for win-win understandings based on connectivity, trade and mutually advantageous cooperation,” he further said.

China’s border pacts’ violation ‘eroded’ basis of ties: Rajnath to Chinese defence min

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday told his Chinese counterpart, General Li Shangfu that all issues at the LAC need to be resolved in accordance with existing bilateral agreements, officials said.

In their meet, which came a day before the SCO Defence Ministers meet – which India, as the Chair of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in 2023, is hosting, the two ministers had frank discussions about developments in the India-China border areas as well as bilateral relations.

During the meet, Rajnath Singh categorically conveyed that development of relations between India and China is premised on prevalence of peace and tranquillity at the borders.

    MS Education Academy

According to the Defence Ministry, he added that all issues at the LAC need to be resolved in accordance with existing bilateral agreements and commitments. He reiterated that violation of existing agreements has eroded the entire basis of bilateral relations and disengagement at the border will logically be followed with de-escalation.

The repeated attempts by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to violate the Line of Actual Control (LAC), leading to tension in Ladakh, had spurred the institution of the Corps Commander-level meetings.

The 18th round of the Corps Commander-level talks was held on Sunday, but was inconclusive as there was noheadway on the contentious issue of the Depsang Plains and de-escalation along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

While the two sides agreed on mutual withdrawals from Pangong Tso, Gogra, and Hot Springs, the Depsang Plains and Demchok remain points of contention and tension.

Beside his Chinese counterpart, Rajnath Singh also met his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Mohammed Reza Gharaei Ashtiyani and the meeting took place in a cordial and warm atmosphere. Both the leaders emphasised on the age-old cultural, linguistic, and civilisational ties between the two countries, including people-to-people connect.

Both the Ministers reviewed the bilateral defence cooperation and exchanged views on regional security issues, including peace and stability in Afghanistan. Further, the two Ministers discussed the development of the International North South Transport corridor to ease logistic problems to Afghanistan and other countries in Central Asia.

The Iranian Defence Minister will also attend the SCO meeting on Friday as his country has observer status in the organisation.

Union min, BJP delegation attempt to enter violence-hit Sambalpur; detained

    [ad_1]

Sambalpur: A high-level BJP delegation comprising Union Minister Bisheswar Tudu and several party MPs and MLAs was on Tuesday detained after being prevented from entering violence-hit Sambalpur city

The team members were intercepted at Sripura Chhak on the Jharsuguda-Sambalpur road and denied permission to move further. Later, they were taken to a nearby Thelkoli police station and detained.

Sambalpur Additional Superintendent of Police Tapan Kumar Mohanty said: “The BJP delegation was denied permission to enter the city because they were not abiding by the provision under section 144 of CrPC. They cannot be allowed entry into the city at a time when curfew is in force.”

    MS Education Academy

The team comprised Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Tribal Affairs Bisheswar Tudu, MPs Jual Oram (Sundergarh) and Suresh Pujari (Bargarh), MLAs Nauri Nayak, Shankar Oram and Kusum Tete, state BJP president Manmohan Samal and Sameer Mohanty.

“I strongly condemn the Odisha government for preventing a Union Minister’s visit to Sambalpur where a tribal youth was killed during violence. As the country’s Tribal Affairs minister and myself also a tribal, it is my duty to meet the family members of the deceased tribal youth. However, I was stopped in the mid-way by police,” Tudu told reporters at Sripura Chhak where the team was intercepted by police.

Stating that he will raise the issue with the Central government, Tudu said “It is unfortunate that the Sambalpur district administration stopped me and my colleagues to enter the city. They (administration) were given prior information regarding our visit.”

Sundergarh MP Jual Oram, said: “It is unfortunate that the police stopped the delegation comprising BJP MPs and MLAs. We have been denied entry into the city while the rioters are moving freely.”

Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari also came down heavily on the state government. “They prevented us fearing exposure of the police inefficiencies. The police have failed to arrest the killers of a tribal youth during the violence. The district collector of Sambalpur has been acting beyond her power.”

Earlier, Pujari alleged that he was also not allowed to come out of his residence at Sakhipada. “I will raise the matter in Parliament,” Pujari said.

BJP Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal, who is also a member of the delegation alleged that “the CM is fearing the BJP leaders as they might expose the inefficiencies in handling of the largescale violence in Sambalpur.” PTI COR AAM

Watch: Telangana min Harish Rao drives rickshaw to Siddipet Auto Society meet

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Dressed in an auto driver’s uniform, driving an autorickshaw, Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao arrived at the Siddipet Auto Credit Cooperative Society meeting to express solidarity with the auto driver community.

Lauding the services rendered by the auto drivers, the minister addressed them as brand ambassadors of Siddipet as they carry out multiple tasks from taking tourists safely to their destinations, tour guiding them while they are on their way and also in many cases shifting injured passengers to hospitals before the ambulance arrives.

While addressing auto drivers and their family members to mark the fourth anniversary of the society, Harish Rao said that the society was increasing the credit limit to Rs 15,000 from the existing Rs 10,000, besides enhancing the marriage incentive to Rs 5,000 from the current Rs 3,500.

    MS Education Academy

Harish Rao also declared setting up a petrol bunk for the auto drivers society so that they could get petrol at cheaper rates and assured them of a permanent building in addition to setting up an auto nagar.

He stated that auto drivers earlier blended money from private money lenders by paying a huge interest rate, until four years ago. The minister said that the society has helped the drivers consolidate financially in the last four years.

Harish Rao further promised prize money of Rs 25,000 for children of auto drivers if they scored 10 out of 10 GPA in the SSC examination.

69 super specialists to be recruited as patients flood medical college hospital in Nizamabad

Harish Rao on Sunday said that the Nizamabad Government Medical College will soon be allocated 29 senior doctors who will provide super speciality services to cater to the increasing number of patients in the district.

“Telangana government will recruit 40 specialised doctors to work in various departments in Mahabubnagar Government Medical College and Hospital, in view of the patient inflow increasing,” he said.

Remarking that patients were earlier forced to go to big cities for quality medical care, the mister said that with new medical colleges and super speciality hospital services made available for the people in every district, the issue has been tackled.

“As part of this endeavour, the state government will soon open nine more medical colleges this year, in addition to the 17 such existing colleges,” Harish said.

Emphasising the availability of seats to medical students, the minister said, “Telangana has become a role model for the country in the field of healthcare. Also, people’s trust in government hospitals has increased significantly.”

“No mention of PIB Fact Check…” Union Min clears air on notification about fake news

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After a controversy arose over the Centre’s notification on Thursday that fake news about the Union government would be forcibly taken down and the agency that would declare content as fake news would be the Press Information Bureau, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday clarified that the rules notified yesterday do not mention “PIB Fact Check”.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s response came against the backdrop of various reports, claiming that as per the amended Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 social media platforms and other intermediaries will now have to make sure that “fake news” articles about the Centre, declared as such by PIB, are taken down from their platforms once alerted.

The minister said that the rules do not suggest that the agency declaring fake news will be PIB Fact Check.

    MS Education Academy

“The rules do not at all suggest that it’s going to be PIB Fact Check. I think some of the grey area, or indeed the misapprehension, comes from the fact that the original draft of the rule that went for consultation talked about PIB Fact check. The rules that were notified yesterday do not mention PIB Fact Check,” Chandrashekhar told ANI.

He said, “So we have yet to take a decision on whether it will be a new organization that has trust and credibility associated with it, or do we take an old organization and repurpose it to build trust and credibility in terms of a fact-checking mission.”

Earlier on Thursday, the Centre issued notifications regarding amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, related to online gaming and spread of false and misleading information regarding government business.

As per the amended rules, it has been made obligatory on the part of intermediaries to make reasonable effort to not host, publish or share any online game that can cause the user harm, or that has not been verified as a permissible online game by an online gaming self-regulatory body/bodies designated by the Central Government.

The intermediary will also have to ensure that no advertisement or surrogate advertisement or promotion of an online game that is not a permissible online game, is hosted on its platform.

Apart from it, the amended rules now also make it obligatory on the intermediaries to not to publish, share or host fake, false or misleading information in respect of any business of the Central Government.

“These fake, false or misleading information will identified by the notified Fact Check Unit of the Central Government. it is to be noted that the existing IT rules already required the intermediaries to make reasonable efforts to not host, publish or share any information which is patently false and untrue or misleading in nature,” the IT ministry said in a press note.

“The rules already cast an obligation on intermediaries to make reasonable efforts to not host, publish or share any information which is patently false and untrue or misleading in nature,” it added.

Telangana BJP demands resignation of Edu Min over SSC question paper leak

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Monday demanded the resignation of state education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy for the alleged question paper leak of Class 10 examination in Vikarabad.

Reacting strongly to the reports of the question paper leak of Telugu subject in Class 10 examinations, Sanjay, in a statement, charged the Telangana government of failing to conduct even Class 10 examinations in a fool-proof manner without giving scope for any leakage of question papers.

Holding the K Chandrasekhar Rao government responsible for the question paper leak, he said it was unfortunate that such leakage of question papers had become routine during the KCR regime.

    MS Education Academy

“It is shameful on the part of the KCR government to continue despite the fact that it cannot conduct even Class 10 examinations properly, which proved to be a curse for the students,” he said.

Sanjay also alleged that the state government was deliberately indulging in the leakage of question papers to benefit some corporate and private schools. “It has miserably failed to control the usage of technology for question paper leakage,” he said.

He said, “The students were already under tremendous stress on writing the examination covering the entire syllabus and the leakage of question papers would add to their stress further. Such thoughtless decisions will put the lives of students in jeopardy.”

Demanding that the government should discuss with the legal experts and do justice to the students on the question paper leakage, Sanjay asked the government to see that at least the remaining examinations were held in a fool-proof manner in a peaceful atmosphere.

“I request the students not to feel stressed out but write the examinations with a cool mind,” he added.
