    [ad_1]

Kuwait: Over 1.15 million visas of expatriates was cancelled by Kuwait during the three years, untill the end of March 2023, local media reported.

The number of those who left the country between January 2022 and April 2023 reached 67,000, and 11,000 of them were issued “administrative deportation” decisions in the first quarter of this 2023.

In 2022, Kuwait has deported some 40,000 illegal expatriates, who violated residence and labour laws.

    MS Education Academy

According to Arabic daily Al-Qabas, the year 2022 witnessed the cancellation of the residency of 56,279 expatriates.

The cancellation of these residences is due to many reasons, in addition to the desire of the residence owner to leave, and the issuance of deportation orders for violating the labor and residence laws.

The local labor market has recently seen the entry of large numbers of labor force, despite the closure that the market saw, which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic and its repercussions on many sectors.

Official data stated that the year 2022 witnessed a significant recovery in the labor market, as 67,000 workers entered the country for the first time, 64 percent of whom were domestic workers.

In 2021, 227,000 expatriates left the country, with around 160,000 leaving without compensation, most of whom worked in the private and family sector as domestic workers.

The number of domestic workers in Kuwait is about 750,000 workers, who account for about 22 per cent of the total expatriate workforce, which amounts to a total of 3.4 million people.

  • Former Indian-origin employee sent to jail for stealing USD 17 million from Apple

Former Indian-origin employee sent to jail for stealing USD 17 million from Apple

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Dhirendra Prasad, a former Apple employee who was charged with defrauding tech giant Apple and related tax crimes, has been sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay more than $19 million.

He was charged in March 2022 for stealing around $17 million from the iPhone maker through mail and wire fraud schemes.

Prasad, 55, from Mountain House in San Joaquin County, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to defraud the US on November 2, 2022.

    MS Education Academy

The remaining counts were dismissed at sentencing, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement.

The criminal conduct centred around Prasad’s employment at Apple from December 2008 through December 2018.

For most of that time, he was a “buyer” in Apple’s Global Service Supply Chain. It was Prasad’s job as an Apple buyer to facilitate the process through which Apple bought parts to perform warranty repairs on older devices.

According to the Justice Department, Prasad exploited his position and conspired with two separate Apple vendors to defraud the iPhone maker by taking kickbacks, stealing parts, inflating invoices, and causing the tech giant to pay for items and services it never received — resulting in a loss to Apple of more than $17,000,000.

In addition to engaging in two separate criminal conspiracies with Apple vendors, Prasad also acknowledged that he evaded tax on the proceeds of his schemes.

By virtue of his position at Apple, “Prasad was given substantial discretion to make autonomous decisions to benefit his employer”.

He abused his power to enrich himself at his employer’s expense — all while accepting hundreds-of-thousands of dollars worth of compensation from Apple in the form of salary and bonuses.

“Additionally, Prasad used his insider information regarding the company’s fraud-detection techniques to design his criminal schemes to avoid detection,” said the DOJ.

  • Top Dem super PAC starts Biden ad blitz, pledges $75 million campaign effort

Top Dem super PAC starts Biden ad blitz, pledges $75 million campaign effort

    [ad_1]

The president’s long-awaited announcement on Tuesday allows Biden to begin fundraising for what will be an expensive campaign. But his April launch also gave the green light for Democratic groups like Priorities USA to jumpstart 2024 efforts backing the president.

“It is essential to remind voters of what’s at stake in 2024, and to do so online. Issues such as abortion access, protecting our climate, curbing gun control, making health care more affordable and making our economy work for every American will be the centerpieces of this campaign,” said Danielle Butterfield, the group’s executive director.

Founded in 2011, Priorities USA is among the Democratic Party’s largest political action committees. But it won’t be the only one supporting Biden, or the main one for that. Future Forward, which already has been running TV ads, will likely be Biden’s primary outside spending apparatus, though American Bridge and others are also expected to have a share in the campaign’s portfolio.

There was also some uncertainty about the role Biden-allied Building Back Together might play after the 2022 election. But instead of paid media campaigns, BBT will focus on coordinating among Democratic groups to highlight the Biden administration’s efforts to implement the president’s agenda.

Priorities’ ad, titled “Our Strength, Our Champion,” focuses on the Biden administration’s accomplishments and echoes the tone of Biden’s announcement video — with imagery of Jan. 6 and Biden’s leading GOP opponent, former President Donald Trump. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, another expected 2024 GOP candidate, make appearances as well. The ad will stream in English and Spanish.

The ad then runs through a list of Biden’s accomplishments, noting that he has “worked across the aisle,” “protected marriage equality,” “took historic climate action,” and “lowered health care costs.”

In the final seconds of the video, with Biden’s voice playing in the background, “Joe Biden is fighting with us. Let’s finish the job together” flashed across the screen.

  • Over 2.6 million worshippers attend Makkah’s Grand Mosque on Shab-e-Qadr

Over 2.6 million worshippers attend Makkah’s Grand Mosque on Shab-e-Qadr

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: As the holy month of Ramzan nears its end, more than 2.6 million worshippers attended Qiyam Al Layl prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Monday, the 27th night of Ramzan 1444, believed to likely be Shab-e-Qadr.

The Grand Mosque and its courtyard were filled with worshippers who came to perform the Isha prayer, Taraweeh prayer, and Qiyam Al Layl.

Worshippers perform Qiyam Al Layl, a prayer that begins after midnight and ends before the dawn prayer.

    MS Education Academy

Videos circulated on social media platforms showed, Grand Mosque and its courtyards were filled, with rows of worshippers spilling over to the streets of the Central Haram area.

The Saudi authorities have made meticulous security arrangements for the smooth flow of worshippers, enabling them to spend the blessed night in a very spiritual and calm atmosphere.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque said that its field teams were able to guide the worshippers as they entered through the three gates of the Grand Mosque, all the way to the upper floors to ensure order and smooth movement of worshippers.

Hundreds of thousands of worshipers also participated in the revival of Shab-e-Qadr at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, but no official statistics were available on their exact numbers.

    What is Shab-e-Qadr?

Shab-e-Qadr, or Laylat al-Qadr, or Night of Power, is when Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed. The exact day upon which it falls is not known but the prophet said it falls on an odd-numbered night during the last ten days of Ramzan.

The 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights of Ramzan may be Laylat al-Qadr, so this period is of great importance for Muslims.

Fox News reaches $787.5 million settlement in Dominion’s defamation lawsuit

    [ad_1]

WILMINGTON, Del. — Fox News agreed to pay $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle a defamation lawsuit over false elections claims, Dominion’s lawyers said Tuesday.

The voting machine company accused the conservative network of deliberately spreading bogus conspiracy theories about its products after the 2020 election in a bid to win back viewers. Dominion’s lawsuit had asked for $1.6 billion in damages before the two sides reached the last-minute settlement after a jury had been selected and as the trial was about to begin.

“The truth matters. Lies have consequences,” Dominion attorney Justin Nelson said outside the courthouse. “Over two years ago, a torrent of lies swept Dominion and election officials across America into an alternative universe of conspiracy theories, causing grievous harm to Dominion and the country.”

Saudi: Over 50 million passengers used Makkah buses in 2022

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has announced that Makkah buses set a new record after the number of its users exceeded 50 million since its launch in mid-February 2022 until April 2023, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Royal Commission for the Holy City of Makkah and Holy Sites announced 50 million, as a new number, after it achieved last December 2022 an increase of 71 percent, reaching 25 million passengers, compared to the expected estimates of bus users for the entire year.

Expected estimates indicate that this number will double in the coming period, as it meets the needs of the residents and visitors of Makkah.

    MS Education Academy

The CEO of the Royal Commission for the Holy City of Makkah and Holy Sites, Engineer Saleh bin Ibrahim Al-Rasheed, said, this increase exceeded expectations, as the technologies used contributed to that increase.

He added that the capacity also contributed to achieving this number, as the articulated buses operate with a capacity of 125 passengers, while the regular buses operate with a capacity of 85 passengers, and were operated through 12 lanes and 438 stopping stations.
