Hyderabad Metro Rail services extended for IPL match

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail services have been extended today for the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings. The match will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. As many fans are expected to attend the match, Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities have decided to increase the frequency of trains.
To ensure that fans reach the stadium on time, the authorities have decided to increase the number of trains running two hours before the match.
After the match, the last train will depart from Stadium station at 12.30 am.

It is important to note that beyond the scheduled hours, entry will be allowed at Stadium station only. At other stations, only exits will be available.
The Hyderabad Metro Rail has become an important mode of transportation for fans attending matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. With its fast and reliable services, it has made it easy for fans to reach the stadium on time.

Video of skimpily clad woman in Delhi Metro goes viral, DMRC responds

Delhi: Video of a scantily clad woman travelling in a Delhi Metro coach has gone viral on social media.
In the undated short clip, the commuter can be seen sitting next to other female passengers inside a coach, before standing up and walking, revealing her two-piece outfit.
Responding to the video, the Delhi Metro stated that it expects its commuters to follow all social etiquette and protocols that are acceptable in society.

Commuters should not indulge in any activity or wear any attire that could offend the sensibilities of other passengers, it added.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Operations and Maintenance Act lists indecency as a punishable offence under Section 59.
The DMRC has appealed to passengers to maintain decorum while travelling in public transport saying, “While issues such as the choice of clothing while travelling is a personal issue, passengers are expected to self-regulate their conduct in a responsible manner.”
The video was originally shared by the Twitter handle of NCMIndia Council For Men Affairs, along with a caption stating that the woman was not @uorfi_.

Hyderabad: HMR opens 4th arm of Raidurg metro station

Hyderabad: The opening of the fourth arm of Raidurg metro station, Arm – B, was announced here on Monday thus reducing commuter traffic during peak hours.
In a press release, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL) announced that the new arm has a staircase and escalator equipped to handle over 60k commuters on a daily basis, catering majorly to the IT crowd.
“We are happy to dedicate the fourth arm of the Raidurg metro station to the public. With this now the commuters would have an additional option to access the station conveniently and gain enhanced experience with Hyderabad Metro Rail,” managing director of HMRL N V S Reddy said.

HMR continues to prioritize the needs of metro commuters and remains dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation solutions, he said.

Bullet train ‘feasible’ but metro for Hyderabad isn’t: Owaisi slams centre

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday slammed the BJP-led centre for calling the proposed second phase of the Hyderabad metro rail ‘unfeasible’.
The proposed second phase of metro rail for building the 26 km Rs 8,453 crore elevated metro rail corridor from Lakdikapul to BHEL and extension of phase one metro rail project of 5 km from Nagole to LB Nagar is “not feasible at this juncture considering the proposed ridership and Passengers per Hour Per Direction (PHPD) is very less”
The Centre in an official communication to the Telangana government has suggested it to take up ‘other modes’ of transport or provide a ‘feeder system’. It also asked for a roadmap for the densification of proposed transit stations for enhancing ridership and furnishing the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy.
“Absolutely condemnable decision by Modi govt For Modi wasteful expenditure like Bullet Train is “feasible” just to show off to foreigners. But metro for Hyderabadis isn’t feasible! Govt must reverse this decision & should also fund MGBS-Falaknuma line,” he tweeted.

Taking a strong objection to the centre’s call, Telangana minister KT Rama Rao had written a letter to the Union minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri to reconsider the Centre’s decision.
KTR said that it was strange that the Government of India which had sanctioned metro projects to many cities with less traffic had felt that Hyderabad does not qualify for a Metro Rail project.
The minister said that it was nothing but ‘blatant discrimination’ against Telangana. “If the traffic of Hyderabad’s high-density corridors does not qualify for a Metro Rail project, I wonder how a number of small cities of UP like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra, Prayag Raj, Meerut and cities located in some of their favoured states get qualified. This is nothing but pure discrimination and step-motherly treatment to Hyderabad and Telangana,” minister KTR said.
The minister pointed out that his multiple attempts to meet Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri to explain the importance of Hyderabad Metro Phase II ‘went in vain’. “Given your professional background, I had hoped that you would ensure the fair and objective treatment to our infrastructure development proposals without any bias or prejudice,” the minister mentioned in his letter to Puri.

Vande Bharat Metro train between Jammu and Srinagar: Rly Minister

Jammu: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said a Vande Bharat Metro train will be operated between Jammu and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir once the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) becomes fully operational.
Addressing media persons at the first run of a track-mounted trolley on the world’s highest arch bridge constructed on the Chenab river, he said the USBRL project will be completed by December this year or January 2024.

Vaishnaw travelled on the track-mounted trolley with railway officials and inspected the iconic bridge having a height of 359 meters from the Chenab riverbed.
Vaishnaw said it has been decided to set up a Vande Bharat Express train maintenance facility at Badgam in the Kashmir Valley and in the first go Vande Bharat Metro will be run between Jammu and Srinagar cities once this important railway link, which will connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country through rail network gets completed.
The iconic bridge having a foundation equal to half the football field is a “subject of pride” and it was a “difficult challenge of engineering”, he said, adding that more than 28,000 metric tonnes of steel were used for the bridge structure that is built in a highly active seismic zone.
The Northern Railway officials said the arch bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 1,486 crore. The deck height of the bridge is 359 meters, while its length is 1,315 meters. The arch bridge has 17 spans and the linear length of the main arch span is 460 meters and it is curvilinear, they said.
The codal life of the bridge is 120 years and the bridge can withstand a wind speed of 266 kmph, but the train can cross the bridge at the speed of 100 kmph.

PM Modi inaugurates new Metro line in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Rs 4,249 crore, 13.71 km Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line here which comprises 12 stations.
Officials said this section is the eastern extension to the operational East-West Corridor (Purple Line) from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield Station.
Out of the 15.81 km extension under construction, the 13.71 km section from K R Puram to Whitefield was inaugurated on Saturday, they said, adding it would cut down journey time on this route by 40 per cent and reduce road traffic congestion.
The new line of Bengaluru Metro is beneficial for five lakh to six lakh Bengalurians serving in information technology parks, export promotion industrial areas, malls, hospitals and several Fortune 500 companies, it was noted.
This route will be operated with five trains each having six coaches bought from BEML Limited, they said adding, more trains will be kept as backup.

PM Modi to inaugurate new metro line in Bengaluru on Saturday

Bengaluru: In a thrust towards urban mobility infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a new section of Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 on Saturday.
Prime Minister will visit poll-bound Karnataka Saturday.
“I will be in Karnataka tomorrow, March 25. The Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research will be inaugurated in Chikkaballapur. After that, will be in Bengaluru for inaugurating the Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Bangalore Metro,” tweeted PM Modi.
In an initiative that will help students to avail new opportunities and provide accessible and affordable healthcare in this region, Prime Minister will inaugurate Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) in Chikkaballapur.
According to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the institute has been established by Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur. Situated in a rural area and established with a vision of de-commercialising medical education and healthcare, SMSIMSR will provide medical education and quality medical care free of cost. The institute will start functioning from the academic year 2023.
Later on Saturday, PM Modi will inaugurate the 13.71 km stretch from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of the Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2, at Whitefield Metro Station.
Built at a cost of around Rs 4,250 crores, the inauguration of this metro line will provide a clean, safe, rapid and comfortable travel facility to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing the ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city, said PMO state.

Hijabi woman attacked on metro train in Canada, NCCM condemns

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) has condemned a hate crime attack on a Hijabi-clad woman by a man on the evening of March 9 on a metro train in Canada
The incident happened when the woman and her attackers were travelling in the metro between Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and Finch West on Line 1.
In a statement, the NCCM called the attack an ‘out-and-out Islamophobic attack’.

Describing the incident, the NCCM said the man approached the woman and asked her many questions about Muslims and Islam. “He then asked her a hypothetical question about what she would do if someone hit her head and got away with it,” adding, “you know what we do with people like you,” before pulling out a LARGE knife from his backpack.
“I was just trying to get to Spadina station to meet with some friends. I never thought something like this could happen on public transit in front of all these people. The moment I saw him take out his knife, I ran and ran until I was out of breath and a stranger helped me. I’ve never been so afraid in my life. I hope the police find this man and take him into custody and get him some help, so he doesn’t do this to any other Muslim woman again,” said Sara (pseudonym for the privacy of the survivor).
Stating such attacks as common in public transit, NCCM called for a change.
“This is not the first time we have seen an Islamophobic attack on a Muslim woman who wears a hijab on public transit. There is a problem in this country where spaces that most Canadians take for granted simply aren’t safe for Muslim women and people of colour. The recent spate of attacks on the TTC is alarming. It’s time for a change,” the NCCM statement read.
Toronto police said they are looking into the incident and efforts are on to nab the attacker.

Meet Hyderabad’s Indira Eegalapati, metro pilot in Saudi Arabia

Jeddah: Saudi Arabia was once known for being the only country in the world that does not allow women to drive vehicles. A common stereotype once prevailed that “Women cannot drive”. However, women have been breaking stereotypes with vision 2030 women’s power in Saudi Arabia is in full effect.
Not only vehicles, but women are also now steering trains in Saudi Arabia for the first time. Indian woman loco pilot Indira Eegalapati deserves special attention from the Indian community on International Women’s Day.
She is the pilot on Riyadh Metro Train, hailing from Guntur and settled in Hyderabad. Before coming to pilot trains in Saudi Arabia, Indira worked in Hyderabad Metro for over 3 years and she logged 15,000 km total.
An IT engineering post-graduate whose friends settled in the software field yet she chose to be different by driving trains not only at home but also abroad.
“While I was a child I used to assist my mechanic father by giving him tools and spare parts and now I am driving one of the most advanced trains in the world”, said Indira.
“We are three sisters and our father has given utmost importance to the education of girls, though some of our relatives oppose spending on education instead of saving for dowry as we don’t have brothers,” she recalled.
“When I was selected for Riyadh Metro, most of our relatives were apprehensive as to how a single woman can go to Saudi Arabia to work as train pilot, my determination didn’t deter me and I made my way to Saudi”, added Indira.
Indira also operated the train in Doha during the world cup where she was sent by Saudi Arabia.

She is full of praise for her Saudi female colleagues and impressed with women empowerment in Saudi Arabia as part of Vision 2030. It is noteworthy to mention that Saudi women pilots constitute a major part of metro train pilots in the Kingdom.
Indira is married and her husband also works as a loco pilot in Qatar.
