SRINAGAR: Weather department on Wednesday forecast intermittent rain and thunderstorm in plains and snowfall over higher reaches at most places of Jammu and Kashmir from March 30 to April 5.
A meteorological department official here said that the thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds.
Meanwhile the minimum temperatures recorded increase at most places with mercury settling below normal in J&K barring Gulmarg.
The official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.5°C against 4.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 2.6°C against 3.5°C on the previous night and it was 2.1°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 0.3°C against minus 0.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.2°C, the same as on the previous night and it was 0.4°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.0°C against 0.5°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.3°C against 3.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 15.5°C against 14.7°C on the previous night. It was 1.1°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 5.0°C (below normal by 1.5°C), Batote 7.7°C (below normal by 0.8°C), Katra 12.6°C (1.2°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 4.5°C (0.9°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 3.2°C and minus 1.0°C respectively. (GNS)

Hate Speeches: Muslim intellectuals who met RSS chief disappointed

New Delhi: Muslim intellectuals, who held a meeting with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) supremo Mohan Bhagwat, are upset over the affirmative action on hate speeches by the Hindu organisation.
“There is virtually no let up in Consistent Barrage of hate speeches, calls for genocide and acts of violence against Muslims,” said the Muslim intellectuals in a letter after the March 7 meeting.
The letter also draws attention towards the “anti-Muslim” marches by Hindu bodies in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra against the minority community which were “full of hatred” and included call for boycott of Muslim businesses.
The Muslim leaders urged the RSS chief to speak on the issue and ask the state government to take strictest action against hate-mongers. The letter is written by SY Qureshi, Zu Shah, Najeeb Jung, Saeed Sherwani and Shahid Siddiqui.
According to sources, the response comes after eminent Muslim citizens and religious organisations met RSS leaders in March at the residence of former Delhi L-G Najeeb Jung and discussed the issue of harmony within the communities.
The Muslim side openly wanted an appeal from the RSS and its affliates against the lynchings besides an end to the hate propaganda on television channels daily.
Indresh Kumar, Krishna Gopal and Ram Lal represented the RSS side.
During the meeting, the RSS had raised the issue of cow slaughter and use of the word ‘kafir’ for the majority in India.

To this, the Muslim side suggested declaring the cow as a national animal for a uniform law on the issue and added that they will ask their community not to use the word ‘kafir’ publicly.

SRINAGAR: The minimum temperatures recorded an increase on Tuesday with mercury settling below normal in Jammu and Kashmir barring Gulmarg.
Quoting a meteorological department official, GNS reported that Srinagar recorded a low of 4.7°C against 3.0°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 3.5°C against 2.1°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 0.6°C against minus 1.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.2°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.2°C against 3.1°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.5°C against minus 1.9°C on the previous night and it was 1.3°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 5.4°C (below normal by 1.1°C), Batote 7.3°C (below normal by 1.1°C), Katra 13.0°C (0.8°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 4.6°C (0.8°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 5.0°C and minus 0.5°C respectively.
The weather department has forecast mainly weather in J&K for the next 24 hours.

MeT Predicts Dry Weather In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Weatherman on Sunday forecast mainly dry weather over Kashmir division and very light rain and thunders at one or two places over Jammu division in next 24 hours.
A meteorological department official here said that mainly dry weather was expected for subsequent two days and “fairly widespread” rains from March 30-April 1.
In last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, he said, Srinagar received 4.1mm of rain, Qazigund 6.4mm, Pahalgam 2.1mm, Kupwara 1.8mm, Kokernag 6.3mm, Jammu 12.8mm, Banihal 18.8mm, Batote 13.4mm, Katra 7.8mm, Bhaderwah 21.4mm and Kathua 7.0. Gulmarg received 3.8 cms of fresh snowfall during the time, the official said.
Regarding temperature, the MeT official said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.7°C against 5.°C on the previous night and it was 0.7°C above normal for the summer capital.

Widespread Rain, Thunderstorm Expected To Continue In JK: MeT

SRINAGAR: Rains lashed the plains as light snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the last 24 hours, the Met Office said on Saturday.
Hill stations of Gulmarg and Sonamarg received fresh snowfall on Friday.
The Office said that widespread rain/thunderstorm is likely during the next 24 hours in the plains and light snowfall in the hills.
Srinagar recorded 5.8, Pahalgam minus 0.5 and Gulmarg minus 1 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature on Saturday.
Drass town in Ladakh region had minus 1.1, Kargil 0.2 and Leh minus 3.2 as the minimum temperature.
Jammu registered 13.2, Katra 10, Batote 3.5, Banihal 2.2 and Bhaderwah 3 as the minimum temperature

Widespread Rain, Gusty Wind In JK In Next 48 Hours: MeT

SRINAGAR: Weather department on Friday forecast widespread rains and thunderstorm with snowfall over higher reaches at most places of Jammu and Kashmir till weekend.
Quoting a meteorological department official,GNS reported that there was possibility of hailstorm in plains during March 24-25.
“Thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds. Rain likely to commence from March 24 afternoon onwards,” he said.
The weather department also urged farmers to “postpone” spraying of orchards while commuters intending to travel on highway and other hilly areas have been asked to confirm road status from concerned traffic police before starting their journey.
