Gurugram police said that the ‘Shobha Yatra’ was organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal without prior permission from the authorities.

When the participants were crossing Gurugram’s Jama Masjid, they made objectionable statements in front of it, waving swords, and inciting religious sentiments by using abusive language against a particular community.

Kerala HC quashes Guv’s order withdrawing 15 senate members

    [ad_1]

Kochi: In a huge set back to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, the Kerala High Court on Friday quashed his order which withdrew 15 nominated senate members to the University of Kerala.

Khan, who is also the chancellor of universities in the state, took the decision to withdraw in October last year, after the nominated senate members by him refused to heed to his directives.

It was against this order that a few senate members who lost their membership approached the high court and after a long drawn legal battle, the court quashed the order.

Congress spokesperson and former senate member Jyothikumar Chamakala said that this directive from the court was expected.

“The Chancellor (Governor) made a mistake of withdrawing four ex-officio members also, which though nominated by him, he doesn’t have the authority. The remaining 11 members can be Aremoved by him, but he did the mistake of removing all 15. We had pointed this out, then itself,” said Chamakala.

Meanwhile sources close to Khan’s office said they are waiting for the order of the court to see the scope for going for an appeal.

  • Maha: Hindutva members demand exile of Muslim family over pro-Aurangzeb WhatsApp status

Maha: Hindutva members demand exile of Muslim family over pro-Aurangzeb WhatsApp status

    [ad_1]

After reports of a young Muslim man being arrested by the Vadgaon police in Maharashtra emerged, Hindutva groups took out a rally in Sawarde village demanding the accused’s family be exiled.

According to a local Marathi news Lokmat, the accused – Mohammed Momim – had put up a Whatsapp status on Mughal ruler Aurangzeb in reference to the recent name change of the city of Aurangabad.

Momim’s status was widely shared angering Hindutva members of his village. They staged a sit-in protest demanding strict action against Momim.

Mohammed Momim was finally arrested by the police on Sunday under Section 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the Indian Penal Code.

However, matters did not end here. Hindutva organisations took out a bike rally demanding the Sarpanch of the village declare Momim’s family as outcasts. They wanted the family to leave the village for good.

However, the Sarpanch refused to bow down to their demands. This angered the Hindutva organisations who went ahead and burnt a sugar sack warehouse as well as a tempo, allegedly owned by one of Momim’s relations.

They then reached the Vadgaon Police station and staged a demonstration demanding sedition charges be levelled against Momim.

As tension spiraled in Sawarde and the nearby villages of Minche and Peth Vadgaon, it was only after the police came to the spot did the mob calm down.

However, when Siasat.com spoke to a Vadgaon police officer, the officer declined to comment and said the reports of a Hindutva bike rally were false.

“Everything is peaceful in the area. No bike rally was held,” the officer told Siasat.com.

Atiq Ahmad’s wife, sons to be named as gang members

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: In a first, Shaista Parveen , wife of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, and their three sons will now be named as members of his gang registered as IS-227 in police records.

According to police officials, Shaista Parveen will be the first woman to be included as a member of this gang in police records.

During the BSP regime, Prayagraj police had prepared Atiq’s gang chart and had named it IS-227.

“Police investigations have revealed their active involvement in criminal activities and that is why such action would be taken against them,” the officials said.

This will be the first time when the whole family of a political mafia will be included in the list of an interstate gang.

Till now, Atiq’s younger brother Khalid Azeem a.k.a Ashraf, a former MLA, was the only family member to be named as member of IS-227 gang.

Shaista Parveen has four cases registered against her including the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal in Prayagraj on February 24.

Pal’s two police security guards were also injured in the attack and had died later. Shaista is absconding and a reward of Rs 25,000 has been declared on her arrest.

Atiq’s third son Asad, has been named among the shooters who shot Umesh Pal dead. A reward of Rs 5 lakh has been declared on all the assailants, including Asad.

Atiq’s two elder sons Umar and Ali are already in Lucknow and Naini jails for different crimes.

Police said Atiq’s gang operates across the country.

“Initially there were around 170 persons in Atiq’s gang. However, the number has now come down to 132 as many have died or become inactive,” officials said.

After lawyer Umesh Pal’s murder in Prayagraj on February 24, police came to know that Atiq and his brother Ashraf had recruited some new members in their gang.

Instructions have been issued to identify newer gang members, officials said.

UP Congress members protest over lack of electricity

    [ad_1]

Varanasi: Amid the statewide strike of electricity department employees, Uttar Pradesh Congress workers led by provincial president Ajay Rai staged a sit-in protest on Saturday over the issue of power crisis here.

The Congress workers shouted slogans, terming the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of the state “insensitive and anti-people”.

Rai said in his address at the sit-in demonstration held at Azad Park in Lahurabir on Saturday that the electricity department employees are on strike due to the “wrong policies” of the Yogi Adityanath government.

“Keeping in view the interest of the employees and the public, the government should find a suitable solution as soon as possible,” he said. The Congress leader said today there is hue and cry for electricity and water due to non-availability of electricity.

Rai alleged that the Adityanath government has cheated the electricity department employees and refused to accept their demands despite a written agreement with the state energy minister. He appealed to the agitating power department staff to ensure that the consumers do not face any trouble.

  • Hyderabad: NIA files supplementary charge sheet against five PFI ‘members’

Hyderabad: NIA files supplementary charge sheet against five PFI ‘members’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency has filed a supplementary charge sheet against five members of Popular Front of India (PFI) for allegedly provoking and radicalising impressionable Muslim youths, recruiting them and imparting weapons training in specifically organized training camps.

In its supplementary charge sheet filed before a special court in Hyderabad on Thursday, the agency has invoked criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Shaik Raheem, Shaik Vahaid Ali, Jafrulla Khan Pathan, Shaik Riyaz Ahmed and Abdul Waris.

“The accused persons charged yesterday are trained PFI cadre who were found involved in provoking and radicalising impressionable Muslim youth, recruiting them into the PFI and imparting weapons training in specifically organized PFI training camps,” the NIA spokesperson said.

She said the aim was to carry out violent terrorist activities in furtherance of the conspiracy to establish Islamic rule in the country by 2047.

“These PFI cadre misinterpreted religious texts and proclaimed that a violent form of Jihad was necessary to alleviate the sufferings of Muslims in India. Once recruited into the PFI, the Muslim youth were sent to the training camps organised by the accused PFI cadre where they were trained in the use of lethal weapons to kill their ‘targets’ by attacking their vital body parts such as throat, stomach, head etc,” the agency said.

The NIA had in August last year taken over from the Telangana Police investigation into the case of alleged criminal conspiracy hatched by PFI leaders and cadre to recruit and radicalise youth and organise training camps to put them through arms training for carrying acts of terror and violence.

It filed the first charge sheet against 11 accused in the case in December last year, they said.

“On completion of further investigations into the case pertaining to the criminal conspiracy hatched by PFI leaders and cadre to recruit and radicalise youth and organise training camps to put them through arms training for carrying acts of terror and violence, the National Investigation Agency filed a supplementary charge sheet on March 16, 2023, against five accused in NIA Special Court, Hyderabad in the Nizamabad PFI case,” the NIA spokesperson said.

The agency said the PFI and its many affiliates were declared an ‘unlawful association’ by the Union Home Ministry in September 2022 after its involvement in violent activities came to light during investigations carried out by various state police and national agencies.
