Mumbai : As Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Pathaan’ became the highest-grossing Hindi film in India, the superstar’s wife Gauri Khan expressed her happiness.

On March 3, ‘Pathaan’ broke the record of ‘Baahubali 2’ and emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film ever.

    Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, ”#Pathaan#Tamil + #Telugu [Week 6] Fri 2 lacs, Sat 5 lacs. Total: ₹ 18.33 cr [updated]. NOTE: #Pathaan#Hindi + #Tamil + #Telugu *combined* biz: ₹ 532.08 cr. #India biz. Nett BOC.”

The Hindi lifetime collection of Baahubali 2 stood at a staggering Rs 510.99 crore. With ‘Pathaan’ surprassing the collection of SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ in Hindi, director Siddharth Anand expressed happiness on Twitter.

“Crossed The Lifetime Collections Of #Baahubali2 In Hindi. Proud Moment For Me…!!!Once Again Thanks To All The Audience Who Encouraged The Film #Pathaan,” he tweeted.

    tweet 1631603941954707457 20230306102921 via 10015 io

Released on January 25, ‘Pathaan’ also stars John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana among others.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, the film is written by Shridhar Raghavan.

The film’s team recently held a success bash where SRK, Deepika and Siddharth shared their experience of coming on board for Pathaan.

“It’s nice to be back. I am not in a hurry to finish the film. Its always been my desire to spread happiness among people and make films to entertain. Whenever I fail to do so, nobody feels as bad as me. I am very happy that I was able to spread happiness and especially to those who are close to my heart – Aditya Chopra and Siddharth. And those who gave me the opportunity as you will notice the film is a very big film, it will be an expensive film,” SRK said at the event.

He further added, ”But to get me and give me a chance to come at the time I was not working and allow me to be a part of this film. I will ever ever be grateful to Aditya Chopra and Siddharth. And also to Deepika. I have forgotten those 4 years in these 4 days.

‘Don’t think Biharis as fools’, Tejashwi targets BJP at mega rally

    [ad_1]

Patna: The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, on Saturday targeted the BJP during a mega rally of the Mahagathbandhan in Purnia.

“We are Biharis and don’t think of us as fools (Ham Log Bihari Hai, Hamko Burbak Mat Samjhiye),” Tejashwi said while taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the promises he had made before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

It was a show of strength for the Mahagathbandhan on Saturday as each and every MLA, MP and minister were present at the rally.

“During a rally at this same venue in 2014, Narendra Modi had promised to give special status to Bihar. But it turned into a ‘jumla’. Don’t assume that we Biharis are fools. We understand everything. The Centre had said that the income of the farmers would double by 2022, but what happened to that promise? What happened to the promise of concrete houses for every countryman? Please tell us one promise made by the Centre which has been fulfilled,” Tejashwi said.

“What was there for Bihar in the Union Budget this year? Zero. It is Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who is developing Bihar in his own capacity,” the RJD leader said.

“BJP does not have any leader, all of them are dealers. They are only trying to divide the society on religious lines. I’m the son of Lalu Prasad, who never compromised with the communal forces in his entire life. I will not bend before these forces,” Tejashwi said.

Mission Karnataka: BJP to launch mega election campaign on March 1

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: With the mission to win the Assembly elections in Karnataka scheduled this year with 150-plus seats, the BJP is going to launch its mega election campaign in the southern state on March 1.

BJP national General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh informed that the party has planned to take out four separate Yatras in Karnataka from March 1 which will continue for the next 20 days.

Singh said that during this campaign called ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’, the party will communicate with the people through roadshows, public meetings and public relations exercises.

The four Yatras will start from different parts of Karnataka and after 20 days, they will culminate at one place. The BJP also plans to hold a big rally on the occasion of the closing.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President J.P. Nadda and former Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa along with many other national and state leaders of the BJP will join the mega campaign to reach out to the voters of the state.

The BJP is preparing election strategy with the aim of winning more than 150 seats in the state. To achieve this goal, the BJP had earlier launched two big campaigns in Karnataka – ‘Booth Vijay Abhiyan’ and ‘Vijay Sankalp Abhiyan’.

  • Telangana: KCR’s rally in Nanded a mega flop, says Bandi Sanjay

Telangana: KCR’s rally in Nanded a mega flop, says Bandi Sanjay

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday described the public meeting of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) at Maharashtra’s Nanded as a damp squib.

“The so-called national meeting of KCR was a mega flop. The people of Maharashtra cared a damn for the rally, though 30 MLAs, two ministers and two MPs had camped in Nanded for the last 25 days. Finally, they managed the show by mobilising people from the bordering Telangana districts by paying them Rs 500 each,” Sanjay said in a statement in the evening.

He said though the BRS had given a huge hype to the meeting saying that top leaders of Maharashtra would join the party, it turned out to be a flop show. Most of those who joined the party were outdated leaders who cannot poll even 10 votes in their respective villages. “That KCR himself appeared irritated for being made to wait holding the pink stoles itself was an indication to the fate of the BRS in Maharashtra,” he said.

Referring to KCR’s promises made at the meeting, Sanjay said they all were non-starters. “The chief minister promised to provide 33 percent quota for women in the legislatures. This is just a hollow promise. He did not have a woman cabinet minister for five years and has so far not nominated the chairperson of women’s commission. Not a single woman was given any nominated post. There is not a single woman Rajya Sabha member representing TRS. He should have mentioned all these points at the Nanded meeting,” he said.

On KCR’s reference to the farmers’ suicides in Maharashtra, the BJP leader said it was like devils quoting scriptures. Compared to Telangana, Maharashtra’s population is three times more. In terms of farmers’ suicides, Telangana stands fourth in the country.

“Despite being in power for two terms, KCR has failed to stop farmers’ suicides in the state and more so, in his own Gajwel constituency,” he criticised.

Sanjay reiterated that the state government had done away with all subsidies in the name of implementing Rythu Bandhu scheme for farmers. It has not been implementing the Central government’s Fasal Bima Yojana, he said.

He also described KCR’s tall claim of giving round-the-clock power supply to agriculture as a big joke. “In the Telangana districts bordering Nanded, farmers are agitating for at least eight hours power supply and protesting against collection of additional consumption deposits,” he pointed out.

Sanjay also found fault with KCR for making lofty statements on irrigation, drinking water supply, power and road infrastructure, as if he was a great intellectual. “It is just an empty rhetoric, as he has failed to implement them in his own state,” he said.

On KCR’s statement that he would nationalise all privatised enterprises if BRS was voted to power, the BJP president recalled that the chief minister had failed to revive the closed units like Nizam Sugar Factory and AP Rayons. “Who will believe his empty talk?” he asked.

Sanjay claimed that Maharashtra had been far ahead of Telangana in several aspects like construction of housing for the poor, implementation of Ayushman Bharat, payment of compensation to the farmers for the crop loss, industrial growth etc. “Telangana, however, is NO. 1 in liquor sales, high diesel and petrol rates,” he criticised.

Coming down heavily on KCR for invoking Shivaji’s name to promote the BRS, the BJP leader said while Shivaji had established a true Hindu rajya, KCR had mortgaged the state with the Nizam’s successors and Razakars. He alleged that KCR and his family members had shown more interest in making money through scams; yet, are giving call for a people’s movement on the lines of Jayaprakash Narayan.

“The people are laughing at your talk. It is certain that they will bury the BRS deep in the soil in the next elections,” he added.

  • Agendas of boycott team failed, says Siddharth Anand amid Pathaan’s mega success

Agendas of boycott team failed, says Siddharth Anand amid Pathaan’s mega success

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: As ‘Pathaan’created history at the box office by minting over Rs 630 crore worldwide in just a week, director Sidharth Anand expressed gratitude to the audience for making the film a blockbuster. He also opened up about how Pathaan crushed “Boycott Bollywood narrative”.

Speaking to ANI, Siddharth said, “I knew there was nothing offensive in the movie but the audience didn’t, because they hadn’t seen the movie at that time. Later, they watched the movie and made it a big success. Agendas of the boycott team failed.”

‘Pathaan’, which stars Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, was embroiled in a massive pool of controversy after the release of the film’s Besharam Rang song last year. It received criticism from many due to the saffron colour of Deepika Padukone’s bikini in it.

Some people found the song objectionable over the use of saffron and green costumes. A slew of activists in several parts of the country even staged a protest and set effigies of Deepika and Shah Rukh on fire. The controversy around the movie started after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra, aired his objections to ‘Besharam Rang’. The film even faced “Boycott” trend.

With the film’s mega success, the Pathaan team has definitely given a befitting answer to the #BoycottBollywood gang.

Reacting to such controversies, Sidharth requested those who wanted to boycott Pathaan to come and watch the film.

“I really hope the people who want to boycott Pathaan also come and watch the movie so that they will realise there is nothing in the movie that can hurt their sentiments,” he urged.

‘Pathaan’ is the fourth title in producer Aditya Chopra’s spy universe, following Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), and War, featuring Hrithik Roshan (2019).

A few days ago, Siddharth along with SRK, John and Deepika held an interactive session with media in Mumbai to celebrate Pathaan’s success.

At the event, Siddharth hinted at the sequel to Pathaan.

“Pathaan aayi hai, hit hui hai. Uske baad kya banayege?”, audience screamed, “Pathaan 2.” Siddharth replied, “Insha allah.”

SRK also talked about the film’s sequel.

“This is a big day for us, my family. We haven’t experienced this happiness in a while. Whenever he (Siddharth Anand) wants me to do Pathaan 2, I’ll do it. If they want to make a sequel, it’ll be my honour to do it,” said Shah Rukh.

‘Pathaan’ marks the return of SRK to the silver screen after four years.

  • Adani imbroglio: MVA, locals worry over fate of mega Dharavi revamp project

Adani imbroglio: MVA, locals worry over fate of mega Dharavi revamp project

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: As the Adani Group battles its current crisis on multiple fronts, the Maharashtra Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and residents of Dharavi on Thursday raised questions over the fate of the ambitious redevelopment project for Asia’s biggest slum.

In end-November 2022, the state government had finalised Adani Properties Ltd.’s bid to invest Rs 5,069 crore in the Dharavi redevelopment mega project.

At that time, the Metropolitan Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), S.V.R. Srinivas, had said that the proposal would be sent for the state government’s approval, a special purpose vehicle would be formed, and if all goes well, “the project shall kick-start by February 2023”.

When his reactions were sought again on Thursday, Srinivas said that he would not like to comment on the matter right now, “maybe after 2-3 days”.

However, state Congress General Secretary Sachin Sawant feels that all is not well considering the nosediving of Adani Group shares and its probable cascading effect on the Indian economy.

“The Maharashtra government must clarify its stand on the Dharavi redevelopment project. Will it allow the fate of lakhs of people to be connected to a company whose fate itself seems to be in jeopardy,” Sawant asked.

Shiv Sena (UBT) national spokesperson Kishore Tiwari claimed that the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was ‘deliberately toppled’ (in June 2022) so that the Adani Group could be given various big projects.

“Why just Dharavi? What about the future of the Navi Mumbai International Airport and other major projects which have been given to the Adani Group? The Centre and the Maharashtra government must immediately clarify and cancel the allotments,” Tiwari demanded.

The Dharavi Rehabilitation Committee (DRC) representing the local residents is virtually panicking over the fast-paced developments in the financial sector which are grabbing gloomy headlines daily.

“The Adani Group’s reliability and credibility is now in serious doubt… We feel that they may not be able to take up and complete this project on time. So, we are asking the Maharashtra government to re-tender it and give it to another party,” DRC President Raju Korde told IANS.

A meeting of the DRC shall be held later on Thursday night to finalise the strategy, besides writing to the state government to call for re-bids and award the project to a financially sound investor or consortium, he added.

In fact, in mid-January, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had brought the Dharavi revamp proposal to the global centre-stage in Davos, where he extolled it as “the largest public-private-partnership (PPP) real estate programme for slum redevelopment”.

Terming it as an “environment-friendly project”, Shinde had said that around 56,000 families would be rehabilitated there with free homes of 300 sq ft to each slum-dweller there”, wowing an influential audience at the World Economic Forum held in the ski-resort in Switzerland.

With an estimated timeline of around 15 years, the project – bedeviled by many problems and failed attempts for a makeover for over 15 years – will see construction of over 10 million sq ft, giving a total face-lift to the 520-acre locality.

Dharavi – literally meaning ‘quicksand’ – is notorious as the dirty underbelly of Mumbai, housing over 10 lakh people crammed into a 2.1 sq km corner. But it is supposed to transform itself from an ugly duckling to a glittering district with swank buildings, wide roads, residential and commercial areas, schools, hospitals, gardens, playgrounds etc. planned there.
