Bengaluru: As Karnataka is inching closer towards the May 10 Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are all set to hold mega roadshows and address rallies on Saturday.

As part of his two-day visit to the state, Modi will first tour Humnabad of Bidar district, and then head to Vijayapur after which he will reach Belagavi later in the afternoon.

He will reach Bengaluru by the evening and take part in the mega roadshow from NICE Road to Sumanahalli Junction.

The Prime Minister will spend the night at the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.

On Sunday, he is slated to address a huge public rally in Kolar and also visit Channapatna, where former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is contesting from and holding a mega public meeting.

Modi will later reach the historical Beluru town in Hassan district, the stronghold of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s family.

In the evening, he will be in Mysuru and hold a mega road show from Vidyapeetha circle to Bannimantap.

The state’s ruling BJP government is relying heavily on Modi’s visit and is planning to rope in some 2 lakh people for each public rally. In the north, his visit is expected to counter rebellion and keep the Lingayat vote bank intact for the party.

In the south, the BJP wants to consolidate its position and break the stronghold of the JD (S) and Congress in the districts of Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur.

Also on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also take up high-voltage campaigning in Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

He will hold a roadshow in Madikeri city and ampaign with BJP workers in Udupi and Kapu.

Shah is expected to attend another roadshow in Byndoor constituency and address a mega public rally in Mangaluru in the evening.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi will arrive in Dharwad and hold a roadshow in Kundagol.

She will address a huge public rally in Navalgund near Dharwad and also take part in a public meeting at Dandeli in Haliyal, Uttara Kannada district.

  • Mega PTMs in MCD, Delhi govt schools on April 30, says Education Minister Atishi

Mega PTMs in MCD, Delhi govt schools on April 30, says Education Minister Atishi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Directorate of Education will organise a mega parent-teacher meeting at MCD and Delhi government schools on April 30, Minister Atishi said on Monday, noting that guardians are an important cog in providing a conducive learning environment.

This will be the first time that Delhi government schools, under the ambit of the Directorate of Education, and those run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will hold mega parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) together.

Addressing a press conference here, Education Minister Atishi urged all the parents to take part in the mega PTM and provide suggestions for their children’s education and the improvement of schools.

    MS Education Academy

“Education has always been the priority of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government. In the past few years, the government raised the budget for education, improved school infrastructure and focused exclusively on providing a conducive learning environment to children in government schools,” Atishi said.

“…we also worked to connect the parents, who are important stakeholders in the education system, with the schools. Due to this, very positive changes were seen not only in the education system but also in the children’s learning levels.

“Now we are going to start this process of change in MCD schools as well through the mega PTMs,” she added.

Atishi also appealed to the parents to join the mega PTMs in their children’s schools and said it would be held on a Sunday to enable both a student’s mother and father to participate.

“From day one itself, the Kejriwal government has believed that if we want to provide quality education to all children, we will have to make the parents participate in the process,” she said.

“Before the Kejriwal government came to power, it was thought that PTMs happen only in private schools and (are) for those parents who are educated. But ever since PTMs started in Delhi government schools, parents have been part of this education process. This has also paved the way for positive development among children and their learning abilities,” Atishi said.

Oberoi said the mega PTM would prove to be a revolutionary step.

“The increased participation of parents in schools will bring a big change in MCD schools. Through the mega PTM, our teachers will be able to share with the parents how they can create a conducive environment for their children to study at home,” Oberoi said.

“The parents can also give their suggestions on school improvement,” she added.

Oberoi also appealed to all the parents to take part in the mega PTM and help MCD schools build a bright future for their children.

Congress plans mega protests against Rahul’s conviction

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Following senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s conviction by a Surat court in a criminal defamation case on Thursday, the party has planned mega protests in the coming days, taking all like-minded parties along.

Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, has called a meeting of the opposition parties on Friday, following which the MPs will march to the Vijay Chowk. On Friday evening, all the state Congress Presidents and legislative party leaders have been called for a meeting to chalk out plans for nation-wide protests.

According to sources, the Congress leadership has also sought time to meet President Droupadi Murmu on this issue.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of Congress MPs and steering committee members held at Kharge’s residence.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “This is not just a legal issue, but political as well since the ruling party wants to intimidate the opposition leaders.”

On Thursday morning, Rahul Gandhi was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname. The Congress leader, however, was granted bail and his sentence was suspended for 30 days to allow him to appeal the Surat court verdict.

The case was filed against Rahul Gandhi by BJP MLA and ex-Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi for saying “how come all thieves have the common surname Modi” while campaigning in Karnataka ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “This government is clearly relying on one set of tactics to throttle opposition voices inside the Parliament, and a second set of tactics outside it. So if you say something outside the Parliament, they wouldn’t allow the House to run.”

  • Telangana among seven states to get PM MITRA mega textile parks

Telangana among seven states to get PM MITRA mega textile parks

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: An announcement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday stated that the ‘PM MITRA mega textile parks’ will be set up in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The PM asserted that they will attract massive investments and create lakhs of jobs. However, he mentioned about the same during his public meeting in Hyderabad in July last year.

“The parks would provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for the textiles sector and be a great example of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make For the World’,” Modi tweeted.

‘”Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks (MITRA) scheme would boost the textiles sector in line with the vision of 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign),” the PM added.

The Centre’s assistance for these parks, categorised into Greenfield and Brownfield, would be 51 per cent and the balance would have to be borne by the respective State governments.

After the Azamjahi Mill shut down long ago and considering the rich history of Warangal, the Telangana government decided to set up a mega textile park with an allocation of 2,000 acres of land at Shayampet for the same.

Following the announcement, Union minister G Kishan Reddy thanked Modi for announcing a textile park ‘as a gift for Telangana’, adding that the farmers and weaving community would benefit immensely from this venture.

Kishan Reddy also said that he had written to Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on February 14 last year, requesting him to submit a strong proposal for the scheme.

Modi also lauded the persistent efforts being to make India’s defence sector self-reliant while remarking that the boost to self-reliance in defence also reaffirmed.

  • Karnataka Congress gears up for Rahul’s mega rally on March 20

Karnataka Congress gears up for Rahul’s mega rally on March 20

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: To counter the blitzkrieg election campaign of the ruling BJP, the Congress is planning a mega rally on March 20 in Karnataka, which will be attended by Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress is making an all out preparation for the programme.

Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the state for the first time after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The mega rally is being organised at Belagavi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken part in a 10.7 km roadshow in Belagavi and evoked a good response from the people.

The Belagavi district has the biggest landscape and 18 MLAs get elected from here. The political parties are focused on winning the maximum seats from the district.

The Congress suffered a setback in the last few years as one of its influential leaders, Ramesh Jarkiholi joined the BJP. However, the deaths of BJP MP Suresh Angadi and BJP MLA Umesh Katti have proved to be a setback for the party.

Presently, Satish Jarkiholi, brother of Ramesh Jarkiholi, KPCC Working President is leading the party in Belagavi and Congress MLAs Lakshmi Hebbalkar and Anjali Nimbalkar are emerging as important leaders from the region.

After the visit of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Congress is putting up the show by Rahul Gandhi to galvanise the party workers. The party is contemplating to announce a fourth major poll promise by Rahul Gandhi.

The party has already promised Rs 2,000 cash assistance for all women heads of the family in the state under the Gruhalakshmi scheme. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made the announcement for the scheme during her rally in the capital city in January. The party has also assured free electricity supply of up to 200 units to every household under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.

Sources in the Congress stated that Rahul Gandhi will make an announcement on creating a specific number of jobs or allowances for unemployed youth in Karnataka.
