Will take it seriously: Revanth Reddy on MP Komatireddy meeting PM Modi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A day after Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy on Friday said he would take the matter seriously and discuss it with party president Malikarjun Kharge.

Revanth Reddy said, “Yesterday when State Congress leaders were holding a silent protest in the State of Telangana over the Surat court sentencing Rahul Gandhi for two years, the senior Congress leader and MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy met PM Modi.”

“It is really very unfortunate, I was surprised by that behaviour and meeting the Prime Minister also. I will take it very seriously and will discuss this issue with the Congress chief Malikarjun Kharge,” added the Telangana Congress president.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.

“I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I discussed many issues in Bhuvanagiri Parliament Constituency. I have requested to extend the Hyderabad Metro Rail from LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar. I explained that there is a need to take action at a higher level for this,” tweeted Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

  • ‘Silent’ meeting between Mamata, Kumaraswamy in Kolkata sparks political speculations

‘Silent’ meeting between Mamata, Kumaraswamy in Kolkata sparks political speculations

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: On the day Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha, a “silent” meeting between the Janata Dal-Secular leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the latter’s residence here on Friday sparked off speculations about fresh equations in the sphere of opposition politics at the national level.

The meeting was as brief, lasting just 30 minutes, and neither Banerjee or Kumaraswamy made any comment on the proceedings.

However, Trinamool Congress insiders aware of the proceedings of the meeting claimed that Kumaraswamy invited the West Bengal Chief Minister to come to Karnataka and campaign against the BJP for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the southern Indian state.

“The two leaders have discussed how the regional parties can unite before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and build a formidable united opposition nationally throughout the country,” said a senior member of the West Bengal cabinet on strict condition of anonymity.

Earlier in the day after arriving at Kolkata, Kumaraswamy decried the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a member of the Lok Sabha and said that this development was reflection of the vindictive politics pursued by BJP.

This the third regional party leader of national relevance that Banerjee had separate meetings with since last week. Last week, when the Samajwadi Party chief and Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh assembly, Akhilesh Yadav came to Kolkata to attend the national council meeting of his party and called on Banerjee at her residence.

On Thursday, Banerjee had a similar one-on-one meeting with the Biju Janata Dal chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence in Bhubaneswar.

Political observers feel that these meetings are crucial in the sense that Banerjee is trying hard to have an united alliance against BJP before the Lok Sabha polls but keeping Congress out of that alliance plan. The Trinamool has officially made its stand clear of maintaining a distance with Congress on this count.

Rahul conviction: Congress calls meeting of senior leaders

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress party has called a meeting of its steering committee members, senior leaders, state chiefs and legislative party leaders on Friday to devise a strategy after Rahul Gandhi’s conviction by a Surat court.

The party has planned mega protests in the coming days, taking all like-minded parties along.

Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, has also called a meeting of the opposition parties on Friday, following which the MPs will march to the Vijay Chowk.

On the same evening, all the state Congress presidents and legislative party leaders will meet to chalk out plans for nationwide protests.

According to sources, the Congress leadership has also sought time to meet President Droupadi Murmu on this issue.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Congress MPs and steering committee members held at Kharge’s residence on Thursday evening.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “This is not just a legal issue, but political as well since the ruling party wants to intimidate the opposition leaders.”

On Thursday morning, Rahul Gandhi was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname. The Congress leader, however, was granted bail and his sentence was suspended for 30 days to allow him to appeal the Surat court verdict.

Sharad Pawar calls Opposition meeting today

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has called a meeting of leaders of opposition parties on Thursday to discuss the Rural Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

The meeting will be held at Pawar’s residence on Thursday evening.

In a letter written to all opposition leaders, the NCP chief said that he proposes to convene a meeting of all political parties who have doubts about the efficacy of the Rural Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

This development comes after the Chief Election Commissioner promised to respond to the doubts raised by some civil society activists and political parties.

Pawar stated that the meeting has been called in the interest of free and fair elections and to listen to the views expressed by eminent IT professionals and cryptographers.

There are some very pertinent questions been raised in the Report by CCE. The report contains views of eminent Information Technology professors, cryptographers and retired government officials.

The civil society submitted a letter to Election Commission of India in May 2022 and another reminder after two weeks (Annexure 3). ECI did even acknowledge their letter. The doubts regarding the possibility of manipulating EVM are being raised even by the common man now, Pawar said.

  • ‘Inaccurate map’: Pakistan skips SCO meeting after India’s objection

‘Inaccurate map’: Pakistan skips SCO meeting after India’s objection

    [ad_1]

Pakistan did not attend a meeting of military medical professionals organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday because the Indian side objected to the use of maps that wrongly depicted the country’s borders, particularly in Kashmir.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the Indian side, including the foreign affairs ministry, highlighted the issue when Pakistani officials used identical maps at a previous SCO conference. India is holding a series of official and ministerial meetings in preparation for the SCO Summit in July.

The Pakistani side was reportedly using maps that depicted Kashmir as part of the neighbouring nation, an issue that has plagued SCO meetings in recent years.

Pakistan was to join the think tank conference with the topic “SCO Armed Forces Contribution in Military Medical, Healthcare, and Pandemics” on an official level. The report cited a source stating the Pakistani side did not participate when the Indian side objected.

The symposium was held at a hotel in New Delhi by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA).

The seminar’s goal was to share best practises in military medical, healthcare, and pandemic preparedness. The topic was chosen based on the efforts made by various armed services in combating Covid-19 over the last two and a half years by supplying isolation units, emergency healthcare equipment, and aiding in vaccination programmes in isolated places.
