SP, BSP are in ICU: UP Deputy CM Maurya

Bareilly: Expressing confidence that the BJP will win a large number of seats in the civic body polls, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday said both the Samajwadi Party and the BSP are “in the ICU” and that voters are not willing to provide “oxygen” to them.

Campaigning for BJP’s mayor candidate Umesh Gautam here, Maurya said, “If there is a need to bring money for the development of Bareilly, it will be brought from Delhi and Lucknow. Goddess Lakshmi does not come on ‘elephant’ (BSP poll symbol), ‘hand’ (Congress symbol), or ‘cycle’ (SP symbol) but only on ‘lotus’ (BJP symbol).”

Targeting the opposition parties, the deputy CM said, “SP and BSP are in the ICU and people are not giving oxygen to them. If they get oxygen, they will again trouble the people. If the voters give them a chance, then they will also reach the ICU.”

He said that the SP, the BSP and the Congress will be ousted when the results of municipal elections come on May 13. “The BJP has the blessings of the public. There are achievements of the double-engine government before all.”

Claiming that the BJP will win all the 17 municipal corporations of the state, including Bareilly, Maurya said, “A triple-engine government is being formed in place of the double-engine government as mafia raj has ended in the state.”

A new era of development has begun, he said, appealing to voters to ensure the victory of the BJP candidates in the municipal elections.

Atiq killing: Accused Arun Maurya was booked in two cases in Panipat, says police

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Arun Maurya, one of the accused arrested in the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf, was booked for possession of illegal weapons in Haryana’s Panipat last year, officials said on Monday.

Maurya was booked under the Arms Act in February, 2022 and in another case in May that year, they said, adding that he was also jailed.

The accused had been living intermittently in Haryana’s Panipat and his native village Kadarwadi at Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police official said.

“Maurya had two cases registered against him in 2022,” Panipat Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat told PTI over phone.

“One of the cases was registered under provisions of the Arms Act for possession of illegal weapon in February 2022, while the other case was registered in May over some fight,” he said.

Asked about Maurya’s age when he was first booked under the Arms Act in Panipat, the SP replied, “As per our records, he was around 18-years-old.”

He was on bail in both the cases, the officer said.

Shekhawat added that although Maurya’s family belongs to Kasganj, his grandfather had been working in Panipat.

According to Maurya’s uncle, Sunil, the accused had done his matriculation.

Sunil, who lives in Panipat, told reporters that the accused has a 12-year-old brother who is a student.

Sunil said he had gone to their native village recently and learnt that Maurya told his family that he was going to Delhi to attend a friend’s wedding.

On the murder of Atiq and his brother, the accused’s uncle said the family got to know about the incident after the Haryana police reached their house in Panipat to inquire about Maurya.

Ahmad (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by the three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

The assailants — Lavlesh Tiwari (22) of Banda, Mohit alias Sunny (23) of Hamirpur and Maurya — were arrested soon after the dramatic shootout that took place in full view of camera crews outside the Prayagraj hospital.

According to the FIR, the assailants told police that they killed the brothers to make a name for themselves in the world of crime.

  • UP Minister calls Swami Prasad Maurya ‘Ravan’ over remark on Hindu epic

UP Minister calls Swami Prasad Maurya ‘Ravan’ over remark on Hindu epic

    [ad_1]

Budaun: Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi on Thursday compared Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya, who demanded a ban on a portion of Shri Ramcharitmanas, to ‘Ravan’.

The minister made the remark in a press conference here during her visit to the centres for the UP Board Examination.

“Even Ravan did not believe in Ramcharitmanas,” she said.

“But Ravan had Ram in his heart. He went to heaven but what was his condition before that? Ramcharitmanas is a scripture full of qualities of humanity. It is a question of our faith,” the minister said.

“There is an emptiness in the hearts of those who do not believe this. They are criticising Manas to make their politics shine,” she said.

Maurya, a Legislative Council member, had in a statement last month demanded a ban on a couplet from Shri Ramcharitmanas, terming it derogatory towards Dalits and women.

On the Kanpur Dehat incident where a woman and her daughter immolated themselves during an anti-encroachment drive, the minister said, “it was heart-wrenching.”

“There should be no politics on this. One should sympathise with the survivors of the victim’s family. The government should compensate them. Action is being taken against the culprits,” she said.

On the UP board exams, she said anyone found involved in cheating will be booked under the National Security Act.

Swami Prasad Maurya, Mahant Raju Das come to blows at TV conclave

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya and Mahant Raju Das of Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya came to blows in the lobby of a five-star hotel here on Wednesday.

The two were there to attend a news conclave organised by a TV channel during which they got into a heated argument which turned physical. The security personnel rushed in to separate the two.

Das had recently announced a reward of Maurya’s head after the latter made some objectionable remarks on Ramcharitmanas.

The Mahant later claimed that he was attacked by the SP leader’s supporters and said that he would lodge a complaint against Maurya.

Maurya was not available for comment.

  • ‘Guidance for us’: UP DyCM Maurya on RSS chief’s remark on caste system

‘Guidance for us’: UP DyCM Maurya on RSS chief’s remark on caste system

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, a prominent OBC face of the BJP in the state, on Monday said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comment on the caste system in Hindu society is a “guidance for us”.

Addressing an event in Mumbai on Sunday, Bhagwat has said everyone is equal in the eyes of God and no caste or sect exists before him.

All these things were created by priests which is wrong, he had said.

“I am a Swayamsevak (volunteer) of the RSS and when our revered Sarsanghchalak (RSS chief) says something, we consider it a ‘margdarshan’ (guidance) for us,” Maurya told PTI in the Parliament House Complex when asked about Bhagwat’s remarks.

He, however, refused to make any further comment. “It will be inappropriate for me to make any comment on the remarks of the revered Sarsanghchalak.”

Opposition leaders, however, targeted the RSS and the ruling BJP, saying Bhagwat’s statement should reflect in the action and work culture of his outfit and that of BJP governments.

“Mohan Bhagwat’s statement is just a statement. One can relish it when it reflects in your actions and work culture. It’s not seen in your work culture. (Centre is) sitting on the caste census,” RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha told PTI when asked for a reaction to the RSS chief’s comment.

He asked Bhagwat to enforce a culture that could end “caste atrocities and inequality” in the country.

“In the sea of inequality, you have made five islands of prosperity. One of the islands is Hindenburg, which is exposing the government a bit. End that,” the RJD leader said, apparently demanding that the RSS chief ensure that action is taken against allegations of financial fraud against the Adani Group.

The business giant has rejected all allegations made by the US-based short seller.

Reacting to Bhagwat’s remark, Congress MP Digvijay Singh sought to know from the RSS chief which of the Hindu scriptures are “lying” about the existence of cast system.

“He has said the scriptures are lying. We want to ask Mohan Bhagwat which of the scriptures are lying,” the Congress leader told PTI when asked for his reaction on the RSS chief’s remark.

BJP MP from Rajasthan’s Alwar Balak Nath termed Bhagwat’s remark “truth” and alleged it is the Congress which divides people on the lines of caste for political gains.

“He (Bhagwat) has talked about Sanatan. There is no mention of any caste system in Sanatan. People brought in the caste system based on their work,” he told PTI when asked for his comment.

Bhagwat’s reflections on Sanatan dharma and the caste system is “absolutely correct”, he said.

“It’s the Congress which has been pitting people against each other on the lines of castes, creating division in the society, for power politics, taking cue from the Mughals and the British. The BJP has united India,” he added.

  • Ramcharitmanas row: Chhattisgarh CM slams Yogi, Maurya

Ramcharitmanas row: Chhattisgarh CM slams Yogi, Maurya

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said the row over some parts of Tulsidas’ epic ‘Ramcharitmanas’ allegedly being against women and those from backward communities was being created by leaders in Uttar Pradesh as part of vote-bank politics.

The ‘Ramcharitmanas’ issue was set off in UP by Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya who claimed on January 22 that some portions insult a large section of society on the basis of caste and had sought that they be “banned”.

“It (controversy) suited both (UP CM) Yogi Adityanath and Maurya to garner votes. However, people face the wrath (of such tussles), while essential issues are ignored,” Baghel told reporters.

Asserting that “two or four couplets” do not make any difference to such a great epic, Baghel said one must adhere to social reformer Vinoba Bhave’s advice that the merits of any religious book or philosophy must be discussed in the present context.

He said Bhave advised that the basic elements (of the book or philosophy) must be discussed and its subtle facts must be accepted after consideration.

“This controversy is wrong. Ramcharitmanas was written 650 years ago by Tulsidas while Valmiki had written it much earlier. There is no need to accept it as it is written in the current situation. You should accept good things from Ramayana and the things you don’t like, leave it,” the senior Congress leader said.

Tulsidas had faced opposition at the time for writing Ramcharitmanas in Hindi but he must be credited for taking the epic to every household, Baghel asserted.

“By creating controversies around such small issues, you are just doing politics of votes,” Baghel said without naming anyone.
