Tipu Sultan razed temple to build Jama Masjid, claims Karnataka BJP

    [ad_1]

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary C T Ravi claimed that the Jama Masjid in Srirangapatnam town of Mandya district, Karnataka is built over an ancient Anjanaya (Hanuman) temple, which was ‘razed down’ by Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan.

Addressing reporters, Ravi, flanked by senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa, demanded an archaeological survey of the mosque in order to prove his point.

“There’s a Kote Anjaneya temple that has been turned into a Masjid. Let the archaeology department survey it. If there is any evidence of a temple then they (Congress) must accept the fact that Tipu was a fanatic, if not, we will tender an apology,” said Ravi.

The 18th-century Mysuru ruler is a constant target of the saffron party.

Last year, state chief minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that the people of the state wouldn’t forgive Congress leaders for displaying a soft corner for terrorists and for talking about Tipu Sultan in order to appease the minority vote bank. He made the remarks while addressing a Jan Sankalp Yatra that was attended by former CM B S Yediyurappa in Pandavapura.

On February 10, Ravi accused the Congress party of doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. “Congress is doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. We are doing politics on the policies of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar,” he said.

On February 15, Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kateel Kumar, while addressing a public rally, asked them to “kill” all “ardent followers” of Tipu Sultan.

“I ask the people here whether you offer prayers to Lord Hanuman or Tipu. Then will you send those who are ardent followers of Tipu to the forest? Think about it. Do you think Karnataka needs Hanuman devotees or descendants of Tipu? I am issuing a challenge — those who are ardent followers of Tipu should not remain alive on this fertile soil,” Kateel said.

  • Hindus allowed appealing for survey of Teele Wali Masjid in Lucknow

Hindus allowed appealing for survey of Teele Wali Masjid in Lucknow

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: The court of additional district judge-I (ADJ-I) Prafull Kamal has allowed Hindu litigants to appeal in a lower court for a survey of the Teele Wali Masjid in Lucknow.

The ADJ court quashed the contention of Muslim litigants that the case is not maintainable.

The Hindu litigants had claimed that the Teele Wali Masjid was ‘Lakshman Teela’ constructed by Lakshman, younger brother of Lord Ram.

The court of additional civil judges (junior division) will hear the case on February 17.

Lawyer Hari Shankar Jain had filed this case in the civil court in Lucknow in 2013, seeking a survey of the mosque. The case has been pending since then.

Muslim litigants had challenged the case in the court of an additional district judge, stating that it is not maintainable.

“The court of additional district judge has permitted Hindu litigants to appeal in the lower court for survey of Teele Wali Masjid,” said Madhu Sen, a lawyer who represented the Hindu litigants, along with another lawyer Shekhar Nigam.

During the case hearing, the Hindu litigants urged the court to allow a survey of the mosque campus, especially the area allegedly annexed by the mosque committee in 2013 by erecting a boundary wall.

  • Hyderabad: Ahead of Ramzan, arrangements begin at Makkah Masjid

Hyderabad: Ahead of Ramzan, arrangements begin at Makkah Masjid

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Ahead of the holy month of Ramzan, minorities welfare department officials are planning to give a facelift to Makkah Masjid located near Charminar, Hyderabad.

The target is to complete the restoration works before the commencement of Ramzan which is likely to begin in Hyderabad on March 23.

On Thursday, minorities welfare department director B Shafiullah and Wakf Board officials visited the mosque. After inspecting the works that are going on at the mosque, he asked officials to complete them before Ramzan begins in Hyderabad, TOI reported.

Ramzan to bring hustle-bustle to markets in Hyderabad

With around 50 days left for Ramzan to begin, markets in various parts of Hyderabad are getting ready to welcome a huge rise in business activities during the month.

With no Covid-related restrictions, hectic activity can be expected in markets and neighbourhoods as people will purchase the essentials for fasting.

After the outbreak of the pandemic, the upcoming Ramzan will be the second one that will be free from Covid-related restrictions.

The holy month in 2020 was completely overshadowed by the pandemic whereas, the celebrations in 2021 were low-key due to various Covid-related restrictions.

    Fasting during Ramzan

Muslims across the world observe fast from dawn to sunset during the holy month. Fasting, the third of the five tenets of Islam, is obligatory for all adults except those who are ill.

During Ramzan, Hyderabad comes alive. The worshippers throng the mosques for prayers till around midnight. For ‘sahr’ and morning prayers, people wake up in the wee hours of the day.

The sighting of the crescent on either the 29th or 30th of Ramzan marks the end of the holy month. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic calendar’s Shawwal month.
