‘You played Holi with Pulwama martyrs..’: Owaisi lashes at Satya Pal Malik

    [ad_1]

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a dig at the former governor of Jammu & Kashmir Satya Pal Malik over his silence on the 2019 Pulwama attack-related security lapses during his tenure in the Union Territory (UT). Malik has recently alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked him to ‘stay quiet’ and used it while campaigning for the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.

In a video clip shared by AIMIM on their official Twitter handle, Owaisi remarked that Malik stayed silent to save his job. “What kind of love do you have for India Satya Pal Malik? To save your position, you played Holi (Hindu festival of colours) with the blood of our martyrs,” Owaisi said.

In 2019, 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives at Lethapora, Pulwama district when their convoy was hit by a vehicle filled with explosives. It was a suicide attack. Thirty-five soldiers were reportedly injured.

Attacking Malik, Owaisi claimed that the former J&K governor had failed in his duties and is now acting ‘truthful’ for political gains.

“You should have come out and revealed the truth soon after the attack took place. But you did not utter a single word because you were in love with your position,” Owaisi alleged.

Owaisi further alleged that Malik’s silence spoke volumes about how much the latter wanted Narendra Modi to come back to power in 2019. “When the Pulwama attack happened, the entire country condemned the attack including me. But you chose to remain quiet. Where did your so-called patriotism go then? You did not speak the truth at that time because you wanted Modi to win the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

In an explosive interview with The Wire, Satya Pal Malik made allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi knew about the security lapses in Pulwama attack but asked him to stay quiet. Malik also that Modi did not care about the state of corruption in the country. “Mein safely keh sakta hoon Prime Minister ko corruption se bahut nafrat nahin hain” (‘I can safely say the PM has no real problem with corruption’),” he told senior journalist Karan Thapar.

His interview created strong reactions from Opposition parties and activists.

Soon after the interview, Malik was summoned by the CBI for an alleged insurance scam. While many believed these were the aftershocks created by the interview, Union Home Minister Amit Shah maintained that there was no relation of the summons and Malik’s allegations against the BJP-led government.

“According to my information, he (Malik) has been called a second or third time. An investigation is underway, some new information or proof must have come to light and he has been called for the third time. There is no truth in this that he has been called for speaking against us,” Shah said at the recently concluded Karnataka Roundtable organised by India Today.

“Why is not the soul awoken when you are in power…the credibility of such remarks should be seen by people, journalists…if all this is true, why was he quiet when he was Governor..these are not issues of public discussion. I want to say to the people of the country that the BJP-led government hasn’t done any such thing which needs to be hidden. If some remarks are made for personal, political self-interest after leaving us, those should be evaluated by the people, media…,” Amit Shah had said.

Hyderabad: Rich tributes were paid to tribals who were killed in police firing while fighting for their rights 42 years ago at Indravelli in Telangana’s Adilabad district.

Aboriginal tribals or Adivasis and leaders of different political parties paid homage to martyrs at the martyrs’ column in Indravelli on Thursday.

It was on this day in 1981 that 13 tribals were killed in a police firing when they had gathered at Indravelli for a protest on a call given by Andhra Pradesh Raithu Coolie Sangham to fight for their land rights.

The police had opened fire when a constable was allegedly killed by an angry mob.

According to official records, 13 tribals, all Raj Gonds belonging to surrounding villages of the Indravelli mandal centre, were killed in the firing. However, rights groups had put the death toll at 60.

Till a few years ago, the tribals were not allowed to hold meetings in Indravelli to pay homage to the martyrs.

Adivasis, members of Indravelli Amaraveerula Ashaya Sadhana Samithi and the Tudum Debba, a tribal rights organization, offered floral tributes in a traditional manner on Thursday.

Adilabad Member of Parliament Soyam Bapu Rao, Mulugu MLA Seethakka and YSR Telangana Party leader Y.S. Sharmila paid tributes at the martyrs’ column.

Seethakka tweeted that Indravelli Adivasi heroes are immortal. She called Indravelli a place of inspiration. “Many lost their lives to get our land, & freedom back still we are fighting for our lands & freedom, we remember the fighters & I pray for their souls to get peace,” she wrote.

Sharmila said she paid tributes to the martyrs of Indravelli who laid down their lives fighting for land rights and against the exploitative system.

She said it was another Jallianwala Bagh.

“We will continue to fight for tribal rights with the spirit of martyrs,” she said.

Opposition misguiding war widows on scheme for martyrs’ families: Ashok Gehlot

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday defended the benefits reserved for the martyrs’ families under a state scheme saying that the BJP leaders are misguiding the people and maligning the image of Rajasthan.

“The kind of package given by Rajasthan government to the war widows, be it of the Pulwama, Balakot, or Kargil, doesn’t exist anywhere in the country. I had brought the package when I was chief minister around 25 years back,” Gehlot told reporters after attending a programme.

He said that under the package the martyrs’ families are allotted land and housing, schools are named after martyrs, and jobs are kept reserved for their children.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came on the heels of a protest being waged by three war widows, who have been demanding a change in rules so that their relatives and not just children can get government jobs on compassionate grounds.

“Why are they asking for jobs after four years? The incident happened in 2019 but there was no demand then and now suddenly after four years the issue is raised. They (BJP leaders) are misguiding the people and maligning the image of Rajasthan,” Gehlot on Sunday said.

“If they (BJP leaders) continue to act in such a manner, then people will give them a befitting reply. We are giving a good package to martyrs’ families. How can they ask for jobs for someone else other than the children,” he said.

The CM said that he had met the war widows on Saturday who said they want jobs to be reserved for their children.

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women has asked DGP Rajasthan to personally look into the allegations of mistreatment and assault leveled by Pulwama martyrs’ widows and conduct an inquiry into it.

In a letter, the commission has also sought a detailed asked Action Taken Report from the police.

“NCW India has taken cognizance. Manju, the wife of Pulwama martyr Rohitash Lamba, alleged that the police threw her as if she was a gunny bag when she was going to meet the chief minister.

Pulwama martyrs’ widows on hunger strike write to Raj Guv seeking euthanasia

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: The deadlock between the Rajasthan government and four widows of Pulwama martyrs turned murkier on Wednesday with one of them, Manju Jat, writing to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleging that the police beat her up, stripped her clothes and even pricked her with a pin.

Manju, the wife of Pulwama martyr Rohitash Lamba, alleged that the police threw her as if she was a gunny bag when she was going to meet the Chief Minister.

“Unable to bear the torurtue by the police, I am on an infinite hunger strike since March 4 and the Chief Minister will be responsible if something happens to me,” she said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has also written to Gehlot, asking him to look into the matter. Mishra said that the four war widows have sent a letter to him seeking permission for euthanasia, as he urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the right action is taken.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has shared a video of CRPF jawan Rohitash Lamba’s widow Manju, saying that Gehlot should stop this ‘dictator-like’ behaviour.

Referring to Manju’s allegations of police brutality, Shekhawat said that instead of taking the necessary action, the Chief Minister is issuing statements on Twitter to blame her.

“The government should break the fast of the widows of Pulwama martyrs. Gehlot ji, this dictatorship will not work,” Shekhawat said.

Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena, who is also protesting with the widows, said, “On Tuesday, two ministers — Pratap Singh Khachariawas and Shankuntala Rawat — came to meet the protesting women.

Both listened to their demands and assured to solve the issue. It was expected that there would be an announcement from the state government on Wednesday accepting their demands, but nothing happened.

Instead, the Chief Minister is raising questions over the demands of these widows despite two of his own ministers assuring to solve the matter.”
