    Anantnag:- Amid snowfall,a rescue operation was started 19 RR at Margan Top today.

    An official said that amid heavy rainfall in kashmir and snowfall at higher reaches, Larnoo Company of 19 RR Bn received a distress call from sarpanch and locals of Gauran (Larnoo, Anantnag) to rescue locals who are struck at higher reaches of Margan top alongwith the livestock.

    Army responded immediately with SDM and civil administration for the rescue Operation using snow chains on Army vehicles, he said.

    30 families have been rescued by the team under Major Sanjay Pandey including livestocks, majority of the bakarwals are from Reasi and Pathribal, he added.

    Civil administration provided all the necessary assistance at Gauran, base location.

    Larnoo Police under SHO, Doctors from animal husbandry are at location to provide medical support to livestocks.

    A medical camp was also set up at Gauran by 19 RR Bn, officials said.

    SRINAGAR: District administration Anantnag has launched a widescale rescue operation to evacuate nearly twenty families stuck along with their livestock at Margan Top in the Kokernag area, amid ongoing inclement weather conditions across the region.

    “A joint rescue operation comprising of revenue, police, army, CRPF, Medical, ASH, SRTC was launched to respond to a distress call at Nawkan, near Margan Top”, SDM Kokernag, who is leading the rescue operation under the overall supervision of DC Anantnag said.

    “It is estimated that there are some 20 families with livestock are stuck on the top,” the official said adding they have so far rescued two dozen people and around 20 farm animals.

    “Another team is on way with JCB machinery to tackle any eventuality”, the official said.

    “We have established a temporary shelter at Gawran and also a medical camp through army as a contingency measure”, the official added. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Amid ongoing weather vagaries, authorities have ordered for closure of Sinthan and Margan passes for all sorts of movements to avoid any exigency till May 9.

    “In view of predictions by the Meteorological Department for widespread and heavy rains and Snowfall in upper reaches, people of Tehsil Larnoo and outside tourists are advised to refrain from venturing in landslide and shooting stone prone areas”, reads an advisory.

    “Moreover rainfall/thunderstorm/snowfall may lead to disruption of traffic on Sinthan pass and Margan pass roads. People are advised to refrain from travelling on these two roads on 8th and 9th of May 2023,” it said.

    “Also in compliance to the directions of SDM Kokernag, SHO Larnoo, and Naib Tehsildar Larnoo are directed to set up naka at daksum and Gowran and restrict all kinds of vehicular traffic on Sinthan Pass and Margan Pass roads on 8th and 9th of May 2023”, it reads. (GNS)

    Srinagar, May 8 (GNS): District administration Anantnag has launched a widescale rescue operation to evacuate nearly twenty families stuck alongside their livestock at Margan Top in Kokernag area, amid ongoing inclement weather conditions across the region.

    “A joint rescue operation comprising of revenue, police, army, CRPF, Medical, ASH, SRTC was launched to respond to distress call at Nawkan, near Margan Top”, SDM Kokernag, who is leading the rescue operation under the overall supervision of DC Anantnag, told GNS over phone.

    “It is estimated that there are some 10 to 20 families with livestocks stuck there”, the official said adding they have so far rescued 2 dozen people and around 20 farm animals.

    “Another team is on way with JCB machinery to tackle any eventuality”, the official said.

    Margan Top Road Opened After Winter Halt

    SRINAGAR: After a long winter halt, the Margan Top Road in district Kishtwar has finally been opened officially. The road connects the remote regions of Marwah and Warwan with the rest of Jammu and Kashmir. The road was cleared of snow with the tireless efforts of the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Projects of Marwah (Kishtwar) and Vailoo (Anantnag).

    The road’s opening is a significant achievement that will bring much-needed relief to the people by easing mobility and transportation of essential goods.

    Making the announcement, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav shared that the road would be opened for light vehicular movement from next week. “The opening of the road will facilitate intra-district movement of people and essential services, bringing much-needed respite to the region” he said.

    Starting next week, the Margan Top Road will be made operational in a phased manner, enabling hassle-free travel and commute well before the auspicious Eid-ul-Fitr 2023 celebration. (GNS)
