    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG 2023) will be conducted as per the schedule date on March 5, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Mandaviya said that the decision to not postpone NEET PG 2023 has been taken to streamline the process to avoid further delay in the exam and counselling process caused due to COVID-19.

The Minister was replying to a question by Congress member Gaurav Gogoi.

“It is important to prevent delays caused due to COVID-19 and hence I have informed the students’ delegation about why the exam will not be rescheduled,” he said, adding that earlier examinations were delayed by seven to eight months and later by four months. If I keep on delaying, such a situation will come…. It is very necessary to fix it and to conduct the entrance test on time”.

“To ensure that no one is left out, the ministry has extended the cut-off date for all those MBBS students who are yet to complete their internship. The government has recently extended the internship cut-off date to August 11, 2023, so that no students across the country are ineligible to appear for the exam. Secondly, students were informed about five months earlier that the NEET PG exam 2023 will be held on March 5,” the health minister said. (IANS)

Microsoft Edge to get Adobe Acrobat PDF tech in March

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Microsoft has announced that with the software major Adobe, it is bringing Adobe Acrobat’s PDF capabilities to more than 1.4 billion Windows users in Microsoft Edge next month.

The announcement is part of an ongoing Adobe and Microsoft initiative to transform digital work and life by bringing Adobe’s industry-leading PDF, e-signature and document automation tools directly to Microsoft users, the tech giant said in a blogpost on Wednesday.

“Together, the two companies are updating the PDF experience and value users have come to expect in Microsoft Edge by powering the built-in PDF reader with the Adobe Acrobat PDF engine.”

This will provide users a better PDF experience including more accurate colours and graphics, improved performance, strong security for PDF handling and greater accessibility, as well as better text selection and read-aloud narration, which will all be available free of cost.

However, users who want more advanced digital document features, such as the ability to edit text and images, convert PDFs to other file formats and more, can purchase an Acrobat subscription.

Moreover, Microsoft Edge users with existing Adobe Acrobat subscriptions can use the Acrobat extension inside Edge at no extra cost.

“Adobe’s PDF technology in Microsoft Edge means users will have fast and secure access to critical digital document capabilities,” said Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President, Modern Work & Business Applications, Microsoft.

The tech giant also mentioned that users across the world interact with trillions of PDF files across web, mobile and desktop.

“With Adobe Acrobat capabilities powering the PDF experience in Edge, Windows 10 and Windows 11 users can use Adobe’s best-in-class PDF capabilities within the Microsoft Edge web browser, without the need to download or switch to a separate application,” it added.

  • Delhi HC to hear Sharjeel Imam’s bail plea in UAPA case on March 15

Delhi HC to hear Sharjeel Imam’s bail plea in UAPA case on March 15

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday posted the bail plea of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam in a UAPA case related to an alleged conspiracy behind the 2020 riots here to March 15.

A bench headed by Justice Siddharth Mridul deferred the hearing on the plea, which assails an April 2022 trial court order that rejected Imam’s prayer for bail after a request for accommodation was made by his counsel.

“List on March 15 at the specific request of the counsel for the appellant,” the court recorded.

The bench, also comprising Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar, in the meantime, began hearing submissions on the bail plea of the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) youth wing leader and Jamia Millia Islamia student Meeran Haider in the same case.

Imam, Haider and several others, including Umar Khalid, have been booked under anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly being the “masterminds” of the February 2020 riots in northeast Delhi that left 53 people dead and more than 700 injured.

The violence had erupted during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Haider’s lawyer argued that although his client was managing eight protest sites and had “spoken” at several such sites, it was incorrect to presume that he was part of any conspiracy or strategy to incite violence.

He asserted that the accused’s specific role has to be ascertained to sustain a case under the UAPA and in the present case, his “pattern of involvement does not match” the prosecution’s version.

“What part of the chargesheet is attributable to Meeran Haider for the offence under section 15, UAPA? It is not sufficient to say you cannot differentiate between different accused,” the counsel argued.

It was also claimed that the speeches given by Haider were “political”, where he expressed his “discontent with the government” and “chose to express his anguish” but did not incite violence or rioting.

He was not calling for violence but was talking about the right to protest, the lawyer told the court, which listed the matter for further hearing on February 8.

Haider was arrested in April 2020 and the trial court had dismissed his bail plea in April last year.

  • PAN Card Holders Alert! Link PAN with Aadhaar before March 31

    [ad_1]

The government has made it mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. For this, the deadline of March 31, 2023 has been fixed. Out of the total 61 crore PANs, about 48 crore have been linked with Aadhaar so far and those who have not done so by March 31, will not be able to get benefits in business and tax related activities.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairperson Nitin Gupta said on Sunday that several crore PANs have not yet been linked to Aadhaar, but this work is expected to be completed by the end of the March 31 deadline.

Individual PANs not linked with Aadhaar will be declared inactive after March 31, 2023. Individual PANs not linked with Aadhaar will be declared inactive after this date. Along with this, the government has said that from the present time to March 31, a fee of Rs 1,000 will have to be paid to link PAN with Aadhaar.

Several awareness campaigns were conducted regarding linking of PAN with Aadhaar, the
CBDT Chief said, “Many awareness campaigns have been conducted regarding linking of PAN with Aadhaar and we have extended this deadline several times. If Aadhaar is not linked to PAN by the stipulated time, then that holder will not be able to get tax benefits as his PAN itself will not be valid after March.

The CBDT has made it clear in a circular issued last year that once the PAN becomes inactive, the person concerned will have to face all the consequences prescribed under the Income Tax Act. This includes situations like non-filing of income tax returns and non-processing of pending returns.

Along with the announcement of making PAN a common identifier, he said that the budget announcement to make PAN a common identifier will be beneficial for the business world. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced in the budget that business establishments will now be able to use PAN as a common identifier in the digital system of government agencies.

  • Asia Cup likely to be moved out of Pakistan, venue to be finalised in March

Asia Cup likely to be moved out of Pakistan, venue to be finalised in March

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to shift Asia Cup from Pakistan and decide on an alternate venue in March as BCCI secretary Jay Shah and PCB chairman Najam Sethi discussed the issue during a formal meeting in Bahrain on Saturday.

All heads of ACC member nations attended the emergent meeting which was called at the behest of Sethi after the continental body released its itinerary and Pakistan wasn’t named the hosts for the Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup was initially allotted to Pakistan and was scheduled in September this year but Shah, who is also the ACC chairman, had announced last October that India will not travel to Pakistan due diplomatic tension between the two nations.

“The ACC had a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines and any other specifics with a view to ensure the success of the tournament. An update on the matter would be taken on the next ACC Executive Board Meeting to be held in March 2023,” ACC said in a statement.

While a decision will come only next month, a senior BCCI official privy to the development told PTI that it is highly unlikely that Pakistan will host the tournament.

“With India deciding against travelling to Pakistan, the tournament will have to be shifted. A tournament without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will have the sponsors back out,” the official said.

One ACC insider said Sethi has just taken over PCB and if he had ceded ground on the hosting rights in the first meeting itself, then it would have led to a bad impression at home.

Pakistan is currently going through an economic crisis. The inflation has hit the country very hard as one USD is now equal to 277 Pakistani Rupee. Organising a high-profile tournament like Asia Cup, even if ACC pays a grant could burn a hole in PCB coffers.

So strategically, if the tournament is held in the UAE, there is every possibility that all the member nations will also get to earn apart from the broadcast revenues.

In another decision, the ACC has decided to increase the annual budget allocated for Afghanistan Cricket Association to 15 percent from six.

The ACC has assured that it will help the Afghanistan board in all possible ways so that women’s cricket can be revived in the country. Women are banned from playing sport under Taliban rule.

The Executive Board also approved of the inclusion of teams from Japan and Indonesia in the ACC pathway tournaments to participate in the events as invitees.

New Delhi, February 05: The Asian Cricket Council will decide on an alternate venue for the Asia Cup ODI tournament in March after BCCI secretary Jay Shah and PCB chairman Najam Sethi had their first formal meeting in Bahrain on Saturday. The Asia Cup was initially allotted to Pakistan and was scheduled in September this year but Shah, who is also the ACC chairman, had announced last October that India will not travel to Pakistan.

It is understood that United Arab Emirates with three venues—Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah—are favourites to host the tournament but the decision has been withheld for the time being.

All heads of ACC member nations attended the emergent meeting which was called at the behest of PCB chairman Sethi after ACC under chairmanship of Shah released the continental body’s itinerary where Pakistan wasn’t named the hosts.

“The ACC affiliates met today and there were a lot of constructive discussions. But the shift of venue has been postponed till March. But be rest assured that with India not going to Pakistan, the tournament will have to be shifted. A tournament without Virat Kohlis, Rohit Sharmas and Shubman Gills will have the sponsors back out,” a senior BCCI official privy to the development told PTI.
