  • Sale Of Gold Jewellery Hallmarked Without 6-digit Code To Be Banned After March 31 – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

NEW DELHI: Sale of gold jewellery and gold artefacts hallmarked without six-digit alphanumeric HUID unique identification number shall not be permitted from April 1, the government on Friday said.

Food and consumer affairs minister Piyush Goyal on Friday chaired a meeting to review the activities of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

To promote quality culture in micro scale units, it has been decided that the BIS will provide 80 per cent concession on the certification/minimum marking fee across various product certification schemes.

Gold hallmarking is a purity certification of the precious metal. It was voluntary in nature till June 16, 2021.

After that, the government decided to implement mandatory gold hallmarking in a phased manner. In the first phase, it was made mandatory in 256 districts and 32 more districts were added in the second stage, taking the total number to 288 districts. 51 more districts are being added.

“starting from 1st April 2023, the sale of only gold jewellery with HUID shall be permitted,” an official statement said.

Nidhi Khare, additional secretary in the department of consumer affairs, said that “in consumers interest, it has been decided that after March 31st, sale of gold jewellery and gold artefacts hallmarked without HUID will not be permitted.”

At present, she said four digits as well as six-digit HUID are being used currently.

She said the hallmarked gold jwellery items are being sold across the country, even in those districts where it is not mandatory yet because of consumers demand for quality product.

Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number is a six-digit alphanumeric code consisting of numbers and letters.

HUID will be given to every piece of jewellery at the time of hallmarking and it is unique for every piece of jewellery.

The jewellery is stamped with the unique number manually at the Assaying & Hallmarking Centre (AHC).

In the meeting, Goyal directed the BIS to augment the testing infrastructure in the country.

The BIS was told to increase the frequency of product testing and market surveillance depending on the criticality of components used for the consumer safety.

BIS should also increase the frequency of lab inspection.

BIS has been directed to enhance market surveillance for different products such as pressure cooker, helmets, and other consumer products to ensure product safety.

BIS has proposed Quality Control Orders (QCO) for 663 products in the coming time.

Currently, there are 462 products covered under QCOs, the statement said.

“In an effort to promote quality culture in micro scale units, BIS is providing an 80 per cent concession on the certification/minimum marking fee across various product certification schemes of BIS,” the statement said.

Additionally, units located in the northeast will continue to receive an extra 10 per cent concession.

“We are committed to ensuring that all products in India meet the highest quality and safety standards,” Goyal said.

These measures shall promote micro scale units, enhance the testing infrastructure, and develop a culture of quality consciousness among citizens, he added. (Agencies)

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced that March 11 of every year will be celebrated as National Flag Day to honour the Kingdom’s national banner, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The decision came from an order issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

In a first, CISF to hold Raising day in Hyderabad on March 12

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will hold its annual Raising Day celebrations in Hyderabad on March 12.

As per officials, this will be the first time that CISF will be holding the ‘Raising Day’ celebrations outside the National capital, New Delhi.

A senior CISF officer has confirmed that for the first time, the annual celebration will be held outside Delhi.

It used to be held at CISF ground located on the outskirts of Delhi, in Ghaziabad.

“This time, it will be celebrated at National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) in Hyderabad. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest on this occasion,” he said.

Last year, Shah attended the 53rd Raising Day ceremony of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram.

“The preparation for the celebration is in full swing. A long list of guests has been prepared,” he added.

For the last couple of years, all paramilitary forces are celebrating their Raising day outside Delhi.

On March 19, CRPF will hold an annual Raising Day in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district which used to be once dominated by Left Wing Extremism (LWE).

On December 1, BSF held Raising Day Parade in Amritsar. It was the first time in Gujarat and the second time outside of Delhi.

The CISF is a central armed police force of the country and is among one the six paramilitary forces of India. It functions under the Union Home Ministry.

The CISF was set up under the act of the Parliament of India on March 10, 1969. Since then, CISF Raising Day is being celebrated on March 10 each year.

  • SC to hear plea of Tamil Nadu against HC order permitting RSS to take out march

SC to hear plea of Tamil Nadu against HC order permitting RSS to take out march

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Wednesday agreed to hear on March 3 an appeal of the Tamil Nadu government against the Madras High Court order permitting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take out a march in the state.

A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha took note of the submissions of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the state government, that the plea needed an urgent hearing as the march is scheduled to commence from March 5.

“I am asking for a Friday hearing,” the senior lawyer said.

“We will keep it on Friday,” the bench said.

Rohatgi said the state had refused permission to hold a march on roads in six districts keeping in mind the presence of PFI (Popular Front of India) and the law and order.

The organisation was allowed to hold its function at closed spaces like stadiums in six districts but not a march on streets, he said, adding the single judge bench of the high court had agreed with the state’s decision.

However, a division bench of the high court, on February 10, permitted the RSS to take out its route march in Tamil Nadu on rescheduled dates, and observed that protests are essential for a healthy democracy, the senior lawyer said.

As the march is proposed to begin from March 5, the matter needed consideration before that, he said.

Earlier, the state government had moved the top court against the permission granted to RSS to take out its route march on rescheduled dates.

The state government, in its plea before the top court, said the route march would pose a law and order problem and sought a stay on the high court order.

Setting aside the order passed on November 4, 2022 by a single judge that had imposed conditions on the proposed state-wide route march asking the RSS to hold the march indoors or in enclosed space, the larger division bench court had restored the order dated September 22, 2022, which directed the Tamil Nadu police to consider the RSS’ representation seeking permission to conduct the march and a public meeting, as well, and to grant permission for the same.

Accordingly, it had directed the appellants to approach the state authorities with three different dates of their choice for the purpose of holding the route march/peaceful procession and the state authorities were directed to grant permission to them on one of the chosen dates out of the three.

Also, the RSS was asked to ensure strict discipline and make sure there is no provocation or incitement on their part during the march. The state, on its part, should take adequate safety measures and make traffic arrangements to ensure the procession and the meeting are held peacefully, the high court had said.

Challenging the single judge order, the RSS sought a direction to the authorities to permit their members to conduct the procession wearing their uniform through various routes throughout the state.

The organisation had earlier sought permission for the route march to commemorate the 75th year of Independence, the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna B R Ambedkar and Vijayadasami festival, on October 2, 2022, at various places and to also conduct a public meeting on the same day.

  • Telangana power demand peaks record 14,794 MW on March 1

Telangana power demand peaks record 14,794 MW on March 1

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana on Tuesday recorded its highest-ever peak demand of 14,794 MW as against the 12,966 MW recorded on the corresponding date in 2022.

According to Transco officials, this was the highest peak demand witnessed in the state since its formation and also predicted that the demand may touch 16,000 MW with consumption up to 300 million units in the coming days.

TS Transco (Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited) and Genco CMD (Chief Managing Director), D Prabhakar Rao said, “The hike in demand majorly comes from high power consumption in industries with an increase of 20 percent this year in the districts along with the rise in cultivable areas.”

The agriculture sector accounts for 30 percent of the total electricity consumption in the state since a majority of farmers use borewells for cultivating crops.

Various projects have been taken up by the state government after the state’s formation and hence Telangana increased its power generation capacity by 9,680 MW while another 7,962 MW of electricity on projects under various stages of construction is being supplied.

Over Rs 38,000 crore was spent by the state government to develop infrastructure in the sector to continue a 24×7 free power supply to farmers.
